The drinks are reasonably-priced (don't miss the 4-6 p.m. happy hour!), and they are professionally made with top-shelf liquor. And not just dog friendly, but dog welcoming - they love your dog. So this was the bar in my hotel and it is surely a hidden gem. I grabbed a few drinks and a grilled cheese sandwich while chatting with the bartender and a regular. The grilled cheese was amazing but very heavy on the cheese. I had to pull some of it out(personal preference). The second time I grabbed a panini and that was good as well. Checked out this boutique hotel bar. It has a pretty good happy hour. Paniolo Lāna'i is in The Equus up the stairs. Has a basic cantina feel with a touch of class. There's mostly cocktails, but there's basic things for breakfast like toast. Bar that's mostly visited by the people staying in this hotel. It's one of those boutique hotels that has a bar inside. They have an entrance that allows anyone to come in and get something. Cocktail menus are limited but there's some ways to save big. It's about $10 for a cocktail at happy hour. Last time we got the Liliko'i Margarita. Had a sourness and sweetness to it. They have no good food options it seems even at breakfast when there's more of a menu. For sure there's a hipness factor. It's located in The Equus on Ala Moana. They have a pretty good atmosphere and it's like being in some nice cabana or something. read more

I really wanted an ice coffee before heading to the airport so I looked up places around my hotel and found this gem. Yulia was the lady who helped me and I told her I wanted a macadamia nut type of iced latte and she said "I know the perfect drink". She started making a concoction with all different organic syrups and even asked my sweetness preference. She was absolutely lovely to talk to and made my last day here amazing. This is not the place for a good coffee. While the atmosphere was nice, the coffee just does not live up to the other options in the area. All they have for making coffee is a breville coffee maker that you can find in many people's homes, and a drip coffee dispenser. I noticed them put drip coffee in my latte as well, which is not normal. I really don't think it's the barista's fault that my coffee wasn't good, it's more of an equipment issue. If the owner is reading this, I'd highly recommend them investing in some real coffee equipment if they are going to market themselves as a cafe. Otherwise, I'm sure they are just fine as a bar, but I was hoping for a nice morning coffee experience and did not get that here. Hopefully this helps read more

Saw this coffee bar pop up randomly so I had to give it a try since they were dog friendly! I drove past this area to see where exactly it was in Waikiki and it didn't look too far from Ala Moana. I thought that their coffee art was so cute so I really wanted to come and give them a try. Parking is pretty much non existent here so we walked. Upon getting to the shop we inquired about the coffee art and it appears that the person who does it only works on certain days and the person who was currently there was brand new. We decided to stay since we already came all the way here and our other option was at the other end of Waikiki. I ordered the iced latte and my friend got an Americano. While mine was bearable. Hers was not. Lol. Her coffee was burnt and was hard to even finish. She only had a few sips and called it a day. Maybe I'll come back when the real barista is working, but I'm sure there are other places out there that has better coffee. read more

This is such a cute western style bar! Had cute lights surrounding the spot with a saddle too. Located upstairs and before you enter the Equus Hotel. Female bartender was really friendly and made great cocktails. Small, hidden little gem located in West Waikiki. You'd probably get discounts if you were staying at the hotel too. This is a cute little bar and I noticed them before I stayed at the Equus. I remember walking by with my husband and I said, that's a cute little bar. He wasn't interested in going. But after checking in, we were given a complimentary drink and it was good. Two beers, a rose, or a cocktail and I'm glad that I had that opportunity. The bartender was really nice and clearly loved his job. My husband and I sat down for a while to enjoy our drinks before going out to dinner. The cocktail is made to order and was quite good. The next morning we went down to have a coffee. My husband ordered a bagel with lox and really enjoyed it. Again, the bartender was cutting radishes for the avocado toast and again seemed to enjoy being there. It was raining and cold, but it was fun there during our small stay. So, if I ever come to the area again, I will definitely come there to enjoy a drink and talk to one of the nicest bartenders (both of them) ever. read more

A friend visited recently and invited me to meet for some drinks. I had walked past the little staircase leading up to Paniolo Bar countless times but finally had an excuse to go. It was a mixed experience to say the least. Loved: the physical bar is cozy and cool. It's situated between two buildings and very easy to get to walking. You feel like you're on a deck with bar stools, seats, and couches all of the outdoor variety. I could not get over how pleasant the cross breeze was despite how hot it was that day. Definitely a little oasis. Other patrons were friendly and clearly happy to be there. I enjoyed watching the hotel guests come in on check-in for their complimentary welcome drink. They also have a great selection of beer in cans and bottles (including many local selections), and liquor. Despite the below, I had a great time and conversation with my friend. Didn't love: the bartender was inattentive to the point of almost completely ignoring us. Not a welcome, no drink order when I sat down. She was unfriendly the entire time, even with a little attitude toward other guests. I can see this might be a negative first impression for visitors. The glassware was dirty as well, I didn't bother saying anything in fear of making service worse. I also was unimpressed watching how they made and handled the food choices behind the bar; order with caution. read more

We went to Paniolo for the first time on my friend's birthday since we've been in Hawaii, even though we have passed by for many many times. Their signature paniolo punch was pretty good. But if you want something stronger, I'd recommend the needle in the haystack. Very interesting! The bartender was super nice. Once he knew it was my friend's birthday, he offered a free shot. First off, one free paniolo punch with yelp check in, unheard of! Speakeasyish feel, since it's sandwiched between two hotels & up a small flight of stairs. Chill environment, good cocktails and NO dress code. Yulia was the bartender and she was lovely - good drinks, great service. I was staying here to avoid commuting from Waianae for my bar exam, and had hoped to be able to grab dinner and a drink before bed each evening, but alas, they did not have food as their menu implies, sadly. It was pouring rain so walking to ABC was not feasible, and I made do with a snack a friend dropped off instead. As a hotel guest, I had parking, but otherwise, off the street patrons would not have this option. There were restrooms in the lobby for bar goers, and they were clean. Yay! Drinks were a tad expensive, but Waikiki.... Meh. Good maitai with hibiscus syrup vs. grenadine. I would recommend if you were in the area, and hopefully they will have snacks next time! read more

We stayed at the Equus Hotel for a week and were thrilled to discover the Paniolo Bar right at the entrance. The bar is up a short flight of stairs just off Ala Moana Blvd. Our experience with Yulia, the bartender, was fantastic. She makes excellent drinks, customizes them to your tastes, and is great at conversation. We had an excellent time thanks to her. After the Beyond Van Gogh, I thought let's take an adventure. For first timers, Paniolo Bar/Equus did not leave a very welcoming impression. However it was cute and why not have the bar as an entry for the guests. I mean after a long day of traveling, you bet I'm going to want a cocktail. Chad did apologize and offered some discount (I didn't pay). He called out my friend for possibly "giving him eye" but I was like seriously? He had this arrogant demeanor and completely tried to reconcile his attitude by claiming these were the "best drinks" in town. They weren't: lacked flavor and uninteresting. I came in at 8pm with my dog and my laptop on a Wednesday. I was fortunate to have Lana as my bartender. She seems to truly care about her guests experiences. Paniolo was pretty mellow and I was able to easily connect to the WiFi with Lana's assistance. I was provided a dog bowl with fresh water and Lana even dug up some dog treats. Great little neighborhood bar tucked away in the gap space between two buildings and connected to the Equus hotel and the hotel pool. Everything is nice and new, cozy, comfortable, and cute.
