We had about a 30min wait for a large party of 8 on Sat around noon. There was limited remaining assortment of pastries by that time, so go early for these. They have a working jukebox which is fun! First of all let me start off by saying I have been to Cafe 101 several times over the years. Now it's the Clark Street diner. First thing I look at is cleanliness. Check that box off here. Very clean. So far so good. Menu was a tad limited. Not a lot of choices. Waitress suggested a secret menu item " The Patty Melt" Wife requested it be cooked medium. Me, I ordered Medium rare. Patty Melts showed up. Well, Well, Well done. Patty melt had onions and special sauce. Was a surprise to me. You would think that with a limited menu the cook would be really good at making a hamburger. And yes I certainly could have done a better job. Was a cook at a high volume restaurant for years and neither of these burgers would have gone out of our kitchen. Had actual pride in what we put out. Very disappointing visit. We were going to the Hudson theater looking for a restaurant fairly close before the event and hadn't been to a "diner" in a long time so thought we'd try this out. While not too crowded when we got there lots of people were waiting by the time we left so must be very popular. Jasmin, our initial server, has a fun sense of humor and was really good. Unfortunately she went on a break and the follow up servers not as quick, probably cuz the place had every table with customers. The 3 of us got a tuna melt, club sandwich and fried chicken sandwich and all were very good. Very interesting that a "kitchen appreciation" fee was added to the bill over and above the tip suggestions and was maybe 3%. This place worth going to again should we be in the neighborhood. This means that You, the customer have no idea beforehand to determine whether or not the restaurant is open, availability of menu and seasonal items, closed to private events and long lines which establishes a "wait list" are sufficient examples for why customers call-ahead. RULE #1 [customer is before service-- hence "customer service". If you are unable to assist customers prior to their visit (updated information on ALL third-party platforms and links, websites etc) then the business have technically failed the customer in providing services they're in business to provide. The telephone number on website and other various platforms "ring" ...so if you are a "caller" DON''T waste your time by calling as no one will answer. As far as I am aware, the Hours of Operation: 7 AM - 9 PM and until 11 PM on the weekends. Staff are consistently moving around taking orders and clearing tables in street leisure non-uniform wear clothing or a designated Clark Street Dinner tee-shirts "uniform" for earning wage workers--and not so much for salary earners. In the mornings, Clark Street Diner appears to have an older, mature guest than in the afternoons and evenings, perhaps. The restaurant welcomes both hotel guest and walk-ins. My server was adequate and friendly ( he expressed a shortage of public relations skills ) I would choose another server next time. There is (as I understand) FREE PARKING --no restricted times but shared parking accessibility in designated areas for hotel patrons and restaurant guest. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO DINE AS A LOCAL AND TOURIST--this is a GREAT SPOT for striking up conversations with THE LOCALS and meeting someone new who lives abroad. The booths were already full, but the host found us a warmer spot for our baby and brought over a high chair, which we really appreciated. So glad my daughter introduced me to Clark Street Diner! The ambience reminds me of the diners my parents once took me to as a child (I'm old). I had the Challah French Toast with berries. This was a huge dish with three sizable pancakes, and I would definitely order the mini pancakes in the future given how big this was. There's also a kids version of the French toast that I tried on a subsequent visit, and this was the right amount of food for me along with a side of sausage. Comparing the pancakes to the French toast, I would give a small edge to the pancakes as I thought the French toast preparation was uneven (e.g. one slice being more eggy and a bit underdone compared to the others). I found the service to be mixed overall. On my first visit, I thought the server was polite, but she did not check in very often after I ordered. On a subsequent visit, the service was friendly but scattered as the restaurant got busier. However, even with these missteps I would check this place out again. read more

It's been a long time since I've been here. Formerly the 101 Cafe, it used to be somewhat reasonably priced, with more interesting menu items. My party booked the adjoining hotel because of the convenience of a diner attached, but the prices were actually too high for the company daily meal budget. An example is that a plain bagel with cream cheese, non premium pastry, and a latte was over $20. Prices aside, I don't recognize this place anymore. Every member on staff had visible neck tattoos, and chaotic gangster rap from the kitchen clashed with the piano jazz being played in the main dining hall. I recently started eating dinners at the Clark Street Diner and love the food and the ambiance. The dinner is a tight and pared down version of the lunch menu, or so it would seem, but the few things I've tried already have been well prepared and were delicious. On my first night there I got the steak and mashed potatoes w a side of spinach or green beans. The chef understood my "charred rare" directive and delivered: the small 6 oz steak was delicious, with a nicely salted and crispy exterior and soft pink interior, and the chimichanga sauce it came with was memorable even. On another night I got a simple quesadilla and added avocado to that for $2 extra. A blend of cheeses, fresh avocado, a delicious homemade salsa and sour cream? It was all very tasty and like only $11 dollars. Was able to take half of it home even! My last meal was the homemade meatloaf with potatoes and spinach, and let me tell you, better than grandma's. A succulent melding of beef and pork, a sweetish tomato glaze over all that, it just melts in your mouth and goes well with their perfect mashed potatoes-- Yum! This version of the diner is the 3 rd iteration of ownership I've experienced and for my money the best yet. Zach Hall of Clark Street Bakery and manager Sean have it sweet and simple and my only complaint, or "polite recommendation," would be this: Get A Few Flavors Of Pie! I mean, come on guys, you're a diner owned by the best baker in town! lol I need my freshly made and funky pies - cherry please like in Twin Peaks!! - and how about some diner classics like three layer chocolate devils food cake with white icing, or a lemon ice box cake?? PROS: * Basic diner vibe (inexpensive / thin single napkins on the tables; vinyl covered booths and chairs; long continuous mirror slanting at an angle just below the ceiling so those seated at the counter can see themselves; etc.) * Friendly / efficient staff (shout out to Anna) * Willing to remove the 4% Kitchen Fee, if requested. * Husband said Bill Burr walked by our table while he was heading out. * Serves real male syrup, and not the horrible stuff served at IHOP. CONS * Only street parking with local parking signs limiting parking to only 1 hour. * Per Anna, the drive way to their Valet Parking (wasn't available at the time were there), has no charge park yourself parking just beyond the valet, but is difficult to find. * Limited menu items. I got the impression, from the food / drink listing pictures from prior reviewers, that they had extensive options. This was definitely not what we found. RELY ONLY ON THEIR WEBSITE'S MENU, AND NOT ON THIRD PARTY's (eg, Yelp) PICTURES OR LISTINGS. * Biscuits and gravy no longer being offered. Apparently, they've shaved down their drink options quite a bit, and only now offers mimosas, low quality beers, wines, and champagne. * The wheat toast accompanying the corn beef hash is initially impressive as these were 3x the thickness of a normal piece of bread and were slightly charred. However, my husband said, it was "ehh". It may look impressive but is just wheat bread. Next time, he said, he'll pass on the bread. CONCLUSION Wouid we go back?. Probably not. It was okay, but we do not live nearby, parking is challenging, and menu is limited. That being said, I can see why locals would eat there regularly. The hostess was perky and friendly as was the server. The hollandaise on the eggs benedict tasted and looked like it came from a jar ($20 purchase). The hash browns tasted like they started from a freezer bag and were not tasty, just mushy. I recommend shredding your own considering how much you charge for the food. Hold them in water to prevent browning (chef here). The beer was tasty ($5) and served from a can and I liked it very much. The biscuit was horrible ($3.50) and you have to pay $1.50 for jam (total $5 purchase). Next comes the 9.5% sales tax the government gets so this is why it is hard to comprehend why any restaurant is asking for a 4% mandatory "kitchen appreciation" tip on top of their 25% default recommended tip. In LA, minimum wage is now $21.01 for hotel workers (this is a hotel restaurant) so all this seems a bit pushy to me. Breakfast for two, one beverage each, was $69.39 with tax and kitchen tip before tipping the server. In the basement / Street Front of The Adler Hollywood Hills Hotel. Milkshakes, coffee, fresh baked pies & pastries as well as all the typical Diner staples. Reasonably priced for LA / Hollywood. Service is friendly without being pushy & efficient. Place is normally busy but the Counter always seems open. read more

Clark Street Diner is exactly what you'd expect -- a classic diner serving classic diner food. No surprises, just the usual comforting breakfast staples done right (for the most part). I ordered the Diner Breakfast and swapped the bacon for sausage. The eggs were cooked perfectly -- crispy edges, yolk still runny, can't ask for more. The pancakes were super buttery and fluffy -- easily the highlight of the plate. The sausage was a little dry for my taste, so I might stick with bacon next time, but everything else hit the spot. Service was quick and friendly, and the whole place has that old-school diner feel that makes you want to sit and linger over coffee. Solid breakfast, nothing fancy -- just what you'd expect, in a good way. Keep in mind parking was very difficult to find! read more

The service was excessively slow. They got one of the orders wrong...I had to explain to a gentleman who may have been the manager that the chicken salad was missing the chicken. Try doing that without being sarcastic. The only decaf coffee option was a decaf Americano. It tasted terrible, so we ordered hot herbal tea instead. The two options were chamomile or hibiscus, but oh no, they were out of hibiscus. Business owners, I think it is a thoughtful gesture to offer to take an item off the bill when the food is wrong or bad, but we do not always want a discount. We want good food, and we want to eat it at the same time as those seated with us. This was our first and last time at Clarks. read more
