Hands down best pastrami in LA and I'll put the rent money on it. Always a vibe when you come and service is top tier. It can get crowded on the weekend so my advice is call ahead if you're coming from far away. There's a million places to get pastrami in LA but this will always be number 1 for me.

My boyfriend and I have been checking out all the pastrami joints in the LA-area, so we had to check out Johnnie's Pastrami. They have their own private parking behind the restaurant so slow down so you don't miss the turn in. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside to experience the old school diner but the seats were tight and not too comfortable. We might have been better off in their outdoor seating area. We shared the Hot Pastrami ($21.95), a Chili Fries ($14.95), and a Coke ($4.95). It was nice that they cut the sandwich and served it in separate trays for us. So the moment we've been waiting for. That super thin pastrami... ... ... Mhmm it's thin but it's lacking flavor and moisture. Unfortunately the chili cheese fries weren't too special either. The fries could have been more crispy. In the Johnnie's vs Johnny's battle. I am team Johnnys. In the thin pastrami battle, I prefer The Hat's pastrami for a better value meal. I'm all for nostalgia but the dining experience was uncomfortable and tight. Neither of us were excited about the food. I don't have any motivation to come back.

One half of the pastrami w/Swiss cheese. The pickles were cut thick, perfectly spicy, w/a great crunch. Ask for extra pickles.

I felt as if I was in a New York Deli! I wanted Pastrami and ordered Uber Eats. Johnnie's Pastrami in Culver City popped up. I gave the driver an additional tip since she drove so far. I called to confirm the order. The woman I spoke with told me the pastrami is double dipped. She wasn't kidding. The pastrami was hell of moist, meaty and oh so tasty. Did I mention it was huge! A hefty appetite could eat the whole sandwich. I did pick at the second sandwich I definitely recommend Johnnie's if you want a filling and satisfying Pastrami sandwich. It was really good. Five Stars

My family from the Philippines visited LA and I took them here. The place itself is a smaller, cozier diner, but the serving portions were big and absolutely delicious. The servers are all friendly and welcoming. Mr. Bryan, the owner, was also very nice and welcomed us. We highly recommend this place and are definitely coming back!

I would give them 3.5 stars if I could. Solid enough sandwich, it was served almost immediately after I ordered it. But I couldn't tell it was fried shrimp, I originally thought it was just fried fish. It's a simple sandwich, much like a Po Boy. Great pickles that serve as a much needed acid burst. My waitress was super nice. The ambience is like an old school diner. They are obviously known for pastrami, and I will say I saw some of their pastrami dishes - the portions were HUGE!

One of my favorite pastrami restaurants in the Los Angeles area. I remember the first time I came here back in the early 1970s. There was a long line at the nearby Tito's Tacos, so we decided to hit Johnnie's instead. Good move. Johnnie's quickly became my #1 pastrami place in L.A. Over the years, Johnnie's has become more of a tourist destination than a local eatery. Post-covid, their prices have gone up, but then where haven't they gone up? On this most recent visit, I didn't get my usual pastrami but tried the Bob's Special Hot Corned Beef. Very good. I was reminded that these pastrami and corned beef sandwiches are best if eaten while they're still hot. Back in my working days, we had many a sandwich run to Johnnie's, and while they were still good after the 45-minute trip back to work, they weren't quite as good once they had cooled down compared to what could have been obtained if the sandwiches had been consumed at Johnnie's. Overall, many fond memories, and worth going out of your way to try one of the best pastrami sandwiches in Los Angeles.

Craving pastrami but needed to take it to go - Parking was easy right next to the restaurant as the street parking can be hectic on Sepulveda. Friendly service and the order went right in. This is NOT the thick cut deli pastrami you might find at other places. The meat is shredded and bit fatty, but still piled high and very tasty. You can get it on rye or french roll Good sized portions and priced correctly Quick tip - their onion rings are super crispy and delicious

    Hot Pastrami French Dip, DELICIOUS!

I had Johnnie's delivered today. Absolutely delicious. I ordered my usual Johnnie's Pastrami Deluxe, double dipped, and a Chili Dog with mustard and extra onions. It's so good my food was still hot when it arrived. I live near the Johnny's on Adams, but I always order from Culver City. The staff are always pleasant and friendly. It's usually pretty crowded if I go pick it up, and the service is still great. I understand that some people think it's overpriced, but to me, it's worth it.

Come hungry. We ordered to go for a picnic and the sandwiches are deliciously loaded with meat on very good bread. Even the veggie burger outsized the bun. The onion rings and crinkle cut fries were hot and delicious. Each order comes with a small pouch of thick cut homemade pickles. We also ordered a half pound container. They were a very good add on. While you wait, enjoy the nostalgia of this longtime diner and imagine how many famous people mingled with the not so famous patrons who all came for the ambiance and excellent food.

Focus is off but you can still see how much pastrami is in the sandwich! That's a lot!

I don't know how anyone can give anything less than 5 stars for Johnnie's pastrami sandwich! I've been coming here for over 30 years and it has consistently been excellent. They have NEVER dropped in quality or portion! The price has gone up in 30 years but that is normal and better than a shrinkflation issue. The service is always stellar! Same ladies serving the best sandwiches for years and i appreciate seeing their kind faces everytime. The restaurant is clean and old school quaint. The patios are my favorite places to eat. Parking can be tough during lunch rush but it's worth the walk once you find it. Don't miss out on ordering the pastrami sandwich with cheddar cheese. Trust!

Johnnie's is a LA staple and was on our bucket list for a long time. It's been around since the 1950's and definitely feels like you stepped back into the 50's once you enter the building. The location is small inside, but there is plenty of outdoor seating. The service was prompt and very friendly. We ordered the Deluxe Pastrami plate which came with a huge pastrami sandwich, a large helping of fries, and coleslaw. The slaw was fantastic and had great flavor. The fries were very good, but I felt they needed more flavor. But my friend thought they were perfect. The pastrami was good, but not the best that I have ever had. The sandwich was huge with plenty of meat. But it only consisted of meat and dry bread. They had mustard on the table which helped. They did supply pickles, but they arrived before the rest of the food. They were bland. Overall, it was a nice meal and experience. But my expectations were not met.

Came here again with my friend from out of town. Love the fact that this place never changes. Still a very chill atmosphere and the staff is as sweet as usual. Food is consistently good. The absolute best pastrami in the world. Chili fries are also top tier. Only downside to this place is the price. This place is a must if you're ever in Los Angeles.

Now this is a good ole classic that my family and I never fail to visit when we go back to LA! The interior and exterior have a classic diner and old school vibe to it, which I love because it's always been the same since I was younger. The staff are always kind, very friendly and extremely welcoming! To start we ordered some onion rings, and our waitress brought out ketchup and their special spicy mustard for us to mix and dip the onion ring in! Be sure to taste test that spicy mustard btw because it definitely has a horseradish strong kick to it. Now onto the biggest delight the Johnnie's pastrami sandwich! I will say usually when we come the cheese is more melted and it's more hot, but the taste was delectable. Be sure to add Swiss cheese and raw onions to it for the perfect trifecta. If you're ever in LA, and want a good sammy I cannot recommend this restaurant more!!!

Ask the Community - Johnnie's Pastrami Restaurant

    Is the patio dog friendly?

    Yes

Do they still use Vienna Beef pastrami?

I have no idea. But I can tell you, I just had a pastrami sandwich from them about a week ago and it tasted exactly the same as it did about 10 years ago when I first had one there. Still great.

    Handicap parking available?

The parking lot is very small. Yes, there is 1 handicapped parking space behind the restaurant.

Do you sell just the pastrami by the pound?

They're not closed they are open

Is the bread somehow different than it used to be? I grew up in CC eating Tito's and Johnnies, but in recent times something was...well, different

Not sure as the last time I had sandwich on rye But I have noticed rolls seem to be softer and not retaining as much steam from the pastrami Still a good sandwich pickles are great Tito's however has definitely taken a dive over the past few years

    Do you offer delivery,and until?

No you gotta pick it up yourself
