This is the type of place you go because you live nearby, you like retro decor, or it's really late at night. I've been living here for about four months and I just found out that this place is open till 3 AM... there's only a couple other places open that late around here, norms, and Mel's with our I honestly find quite confusing. The waitress on the morning I was in, had an excellent alternative Gothic vibe; I could tell she knew things, I could tell she's seen things... and as a literal fire truck sirens screams by in the intersection next to where I'm at; I am reminded this is the city... I live really close to here so I'm going to be back. Not necessarily because the food blew me away, but because I live walking distance. The sausage and eggs were on point. Solid breakfast spot serving all the diner classics right. I came by with friends after a night out and it was just what I needed to start my day. First and most importantly the coke was perfection. I ordered a tuna melt and although it wasn't anything special is was definitely done right. The bread was toasted perfectly so it didn't get soggy. The fries here are also really good and the waiter gave me a pool of ranch to dip them in. Everyone else really enjoyed their food as well. Would definitely come back when we're in town. read more

My lunch and dinner orders were fantastic!! And I even made a mistake when I got to checkout and didn't turn off autonomous vehicles for delivery. I called Swingers and a very kind woman helped me. I wasn't really a fan of the type of bread used for the french toast if anything due to its flavor and texture. I had the Brownie Sundae for dessert. Swingers Diner was a spot my friends hyped up a lot, so I had to try it for myself. We went pretty late, about thirty minutes before last call, and still had a great experience. We ordered the chicken nachos and they were amazing, hot, loaded, and perfect late night food. The mozzarella sticks were easily the best thing we had and the clear standout of the meal. I got the Neapolitan shake, which ended up being vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and strawberry bits. It was good, but my friend's peanut butter banana milkshake was way better and something I would order next time. I also tried the patty melt and the Swinger burger and honestly they tasted pretty much the same. Both were fine but not memorable. Service was impeccable from start to finish, which really made the visit enjoyable. Overall, Swingers is a great diner for classic diner food and late night cravings, but on a food quality scale I would put it around Norms or Denny's. I'm so glad this restaurant re-opened after a brief COVID-era closure. I wish I didn't live so far away; I would come here so much more often if I lived closer. Recently came back here for a weekday lunch and was hit with waves of nostalgia and wonderful memories of shared meals, laughter, and conversations from years past. The music was great; songs I love, but still at a low enough volume that I could carry on a conversation without yelling. (Thank you for not blasting the music!) I have tried so many other places near me over the last 5-10 years -- but nobody does a tuna melt and chocolate malt like Swingers! I don't know what special thing they do with their tuna salad, but the Swingers tuna melt will forever be my favorite tuna melt in all of Los Angeles (and perhaps ever). Even the chocolate malt milkshake here hits different, hands down, my absolute favorite. Wait staff are friendly even when I'm clearly not the target "hipster" or "rocker"(?) demographic. The former private parking lot across the street is no more; now just with metered street parking along Beverly Blvd. Thank you for the excellent comfort food and nostalgia. Yikes RE: Jerk Chicken salad. And yes. Part of that is on me. But like when a good 'ol fashioned American Diner has Jerk Chicken anything on their menu, I cannot help but oblige. Oh dear, all ye who order the jerk chicken caesar salad here. And there were warning shots! The cashier happily informed me 'they improved their sauce, so now the jerk chicken is good.' So that begs the question; prior to this was it crap? Well if it was crap then, and you're gonna dress it up a little now, how confident are you now that it ain't crap anymore? The jerk chicken salad was horrible to put it mildly. It was half-caesar, half jerk chicken. THAT. DOESN"T. WORK! Zero synergy. Salad had brown Nazca lines around the edges. Not fresh. The dressing tasted super gnarly. It had like an Italian dressing type flavor, but without a hint of lemon and the caesar part was secondary instead of primary. And jerk has potatoes now! And like semi-raw! Lovely. How about jettison the Caesar and just have a more traditional jerk chicken salad? But in order to do that, you must actually have a good jerk sauce. But it doesn't. In fact, if you didn't tell me it was a Jerk Chicken insert other half, I wouldn't even know the chicken was jerked. Really. Where was the jerk? Tasted like a black peppered grilled chicken. Cannot be identified. This salad should absolutely not be on this menu. Don't even make the suggestion and insult the customers for having the adventurous temerity to be open-minded at a traditional diner. 0/5 I also ordered the apple pie. It was serviceable. Tasted semi-superficial though. Doubt it was completely homemade from scratch, but I could be wrong. The pie crust tasted like a plain pop-tart and a little bit dry. Went late night for my first time on the way home from work, got the BLAT with a cup of tortilla soup and a slice of coffee cake. The soup was terrible it tasted like spiced tomato puree it didn't help that they added the tortilla strips inside for a take out order so it made it even thicker. The sandwich was actually really good and pretty big. I didn't try the coffee cake till the next morning at first it was ok but after warming it up it was 10x better. As far as service...that's where they lacked. They have "order takers" I don't expect a full conversation or to be amused but if I mention it's my first time and say wow big menu and get no feedback or recommendations? I felt like I was talking to myself and almost forcing a response with my questions. To top it off when I went back in to pick up my food the 2 servers were so locked in on their own conversation they didn't even notice me standing there awkwardly next to them by the register. She finally turns around grabs the bag on drops it on the counter in front of me without making eye contact or even stopping her conversation. I just said "thanks?" laughed and walked away. There was an older guy standing by the window by in front of the kitchen who I think was the manager who also saw the interaction as I was waiting there who didn't even try to get their attention. I usually get their Beyond Burger with vegan cheese...well done. Well done because I like that yummy crispness. Oooh and they have vegan rice krispy treats! They serve beer, wine and cocktails. I usually get wine but last time I thought I'd be adventurous and ordered a margarita. I should have stuck with the wine. It was mostly tequila and lime...little else. Service is always great. In fact I'm always amazed how fast their servers are. The last few times we've been there there's only been one server for the entire diner and that didn't impact our service at all. These people can hustle. Vibe is cool. Very retro. Vinyl banquets, linoleum flooring, stainless steel accents, jukebox. I dig it. Parking can be a bit tricky but we've always found a spot within a block.
