Lots of problems with ordering from here. The order is never ready at the pickup time given (always at least 40 minutes even if they tell you 20), and the fries I order with the monster slice are forgotten most times and I have to go back. Have been ordering pizza from here for a long time. It has always been great! Stopped by on our way back from the 4th of July fireworks because the kids were hungry and we ordered a few slices of pizza. They weren't kidding about being the home of the monster slice!! The slices came in a small pizza box! They were bigger than our kids faces! They had a blast trying to scarf them down! The restaurant is under new management and Miguel was so nice and helpful! just finished eating our take out pizza from Papa Rays in Carol Stream IL (new ownership for several months now). We love their Traditional Crust, which is in-betweenn Thin Crust and Pan Pizza, there is a lip around the edge so they put the cheese and all the ingredients all the way out, unlike other pizzerias that leave an entire inch (or more) around the edge with nothing on it. All the toppings are evenly distributed throughout the pizza. This pizza was Cheese, Sausage & Onion, and it was delicious as it was, but at home we added sliced tomatoes and green pepper from our garden. the pizza was ready in about 20 minutes, right on time. Papa Ray's is now our favorite place. And if you happen to like wings, theirs are delicious too and make a nice add on to a pizza order. Give them a try. Their wings are delicious! You have to try their Italian beef sandwiches! It's like Portillo's minus the mess. That and their service is AMAZING! Ordered ahead here. Got there, paid, and then was told "we accidentally gave your order to someone else." Since I wasn't able to wait there while the order was remade, I was told they'd deliver, for free, in ten minutes. When the order was finally delivered, WELL OVER AN HOUR LATER, the drinks that were part of a combo order were missing. That, and the delivery driver wouldn't get out of the vehicle to complete the delivery, we had to go outside to get it. This business has been in my bookmarks for awhile and to be honest I'm not sure why I went since I'm on a veggie kick but I decided to try them out anyway. The young man who took my order and cashed me out was very welcoming and polite! I ordered their salad, adding on artichoke hearts, spinach, feta, also adding olives w/balsamic dressing. It might have been the worst salad I've ever tasted. The spinach tasted dirty, the olives tasted bad alone but the cheese broke down easily which helped since they are large pieces (I was aware they came like this). I paid $9 for this and I definitely feel like it wasn't worth it. If I do go back to eating meat, I might try their wings but I don't plan on visiting again. read more

On a frosty Monday afternoon at my office, it was so cold that de-icer spray used to get ice off my windshield froze upon application. It was so cold many people at my place of work were unable to come in due to car problems or having been inadvertently frozen like the main character in that Pauly Shore movie called Encino Man. Rather than wait for everyone to defrost or even attempt to go somewhere for lunch, the few of us brave souls who managed to be productive enough to come in opted to order out for Pizza to be delivered. Our first choice was not open, so we had a menu for a new place called Papa Ray's and decided to give it a try. Now I'm quite familiar with places with the name of Ray's pizza. Be it "Original Ray's Pizza", "Famous Ray's Pizza", or even "Not so famous unoriginal Ray's Pizza" places with names including the words "Ray's Pizza" are extremely popular in another part of the country. So my expectation of this place was that it would be like New York style pizza from one of the many "Rays" without all the rudeness, pompousness and giant rodents everywhere. We placed our order and it arrived in a fair amount of time, in fact quite quick considering the awful weather conditions. We ordered 3 pizzas, a vege only pizza for people with bad taste and/or pork free dietary customs, a meat pizza with sausage and peperoni, and a sausage, green pepper and mushroom pizza. The style of pizza here is a hand tossed thicker style, more like New York style pizza than most Chicagoland Pizzerias, but at the same time bearing a reasonable similarity to the pizza at Domino's or Pizza Hut. So how was the pizza you might ask? Well I tried one slice of the meat pizza and one slice of the sausage, mushroom and green pepper pizza. The good news here is the quality of the ingredients particularly the sausage was excellent. The bad is that the sauce was sparsely applied and watery. The dough wasn't bad, not particularly flavorful but held together well. The cheese was a little greasy and thin after cooking. Overall my thoughts on Papa Ray's is that it's different than a lot of other Chicago style pizza places. I wouldn't recommend it over your favorite place, but it's better than most of the big national chains and isn't specializing in deep dish, stuffed or super thin Chicago style varieties of pizza. I'll rate it as average and while I'm not in any rush to order again, I wouldn't be opposed to it. Dough, in here, in pizza here Ray, is Papa to his son. So I've tried their Italian Beef, their monster slices of pizza, their regular pizza, their wings, their mozzarella sticks.... Plain and simple, their food is great!. I'm an Italian Beef connoisseur, and their grinder is amazing! Please note, it is a grinder, not a typical Italian Beef, but it is the best grinder I've had! The beef is seasoned to perfection. The wings are soooo good! They're big and juicy and so flavorful! The monster slice is a quarter of a pizza and a great deal! The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the hand tossed pizza crust was very thin and fell apart. Maybe it was just a fluke. I'm willing to give them another try at their pizza. Crappy experience at Papa Ray's pizza tonight. People coming out of the kitchen without wearing masks. Cashier had no mask, made the pizza wrong, then never told my wife keeping her there for 15 minutes while they made another pizza. She gets home and the pizza (1 of 3) is still wrong, she calls to tell them, and they say that's what she ordered. Just admit you're wrong and offer to fix it. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Love getting lunch from this place. They do delivery and with in an hour, but worth it. We have orderd their famous rib tips, pizza, chicken wings and the beefy cheesy calzone. The cuality of food is really good. It always tastes fresh and of great flavor. This is one of the our favorite places to get our lunch from. Portions are quite generous. Prices are average. Just didn't feel like cooking so I thought I'd give 'em a try. Wish I could say it was a positive experience - but no. The guys behind the counter were friendly enough, and the prices are reasonable, but the cook put onions in my order when the receipt clearly specified "no onions." This after ordering in person, being told it would take 20 minutes (which honestly surprised me - I went home and came back instead of waiting). I get it home and cut into it and there are onions in my order... So I had to drive back a third time to return my food and get a refund and still had to find dinner elsewhere, an hour after my first visit. What a waste of time - I will not be back. read more
