Turnip greens and cabbage are my number sides but the beans, potato salad, macaroni n cheese, slaw is delicious! All the meat choices are tender and the hot link has the perfect snap yum!! The food here is okay. TBH I probably will not revisit this restaurant. My food was pretty bland and over priced.

Location. Location. Location! Situated right at the marina, you can sit outside while you eat. That and the pulled pork (possibly the best I've ever had) are reason enough to return. They are the 5-star components of my review. Earning 4 stars, the smoked catfish and grilled cabbage were pleasant surprises; the ribs were juicy; the baked beans were tasty; staff were very accommodating and friendly. Coming in with a passable 3 stars, the collards were tender (needed seasoning), the brisket was pulled and dry (would have preferred it sliced), the beverage/beer selection was limited and nothing on tap. 2 stars go to the uninspired mac'n'cheese. One tarnished star for the abysmal hamburger buns that came with the pulled meats and the Styrofoam "dishes". With a few upgrades, including table service, this could easily be a 5-star destination! read more

Lil'Bit was a gracious host. She recommended a better plate special based on my original order and offered alternative sides on two items that were sold out. Although the greens were one of the items sold out the grilled cabbage was delicious. This restaurant is in a town called Hemitage, just a 15 min drive from Downtown Nashville. Situated on a small lake with boat slips and trails, and parking. I came on a Thursday afternoon, I missed the live bands that play here in the late afternoon and evening. Call ahead for more details. Lil'Bit graciously anticipated my next visit, however I told her I was from Los Angeles. She gave me a menu and asked me to tell all my friends about her restaurant! Visited on 5/12, pork sandwich was nothing but dry pork on a basic bun. I had to drown it in bbq sauce to make it worth eating. I normally do not like sauce on my sandwich, I prefer to taste the smoked meat instead. The sides were $2.75 each, very small containers. I had the mac n cheese, and baked beans. They tasted fine, just highly disappointed in the small serving sizes. The drink was served in a very small cut, certainly 10oz or less. Had to make two refill trips just to have enough to finish dinner. Everything is served in individual Styrofoam containers; one for sandwich, one for each side, and one for the drink. Since I ate in, I was disappointed they did not serve the food on a platter or paper lined food tray. I disposed of four containers in the trash, so sad that it had to be so environmentally unfriendly to dine in. The music...OMG. They playing was fine but the volume was stupidly insane. The dining room is extremely small and the band is right next to the tables. The bass gave me a headache...and I sat in the furthest table from the band. I don't understand how they thought that the volume was acceptable. I will not return, there are better bbq places to visit. If you go, use the coupon on their website by signing up for their newsletter, it may soften the blow a little during your visit. read more

I'm rating this just on their business practices. Our order got forgotten about and a solid 6 orders past ours came out after our number. I went up and asked what happened and our number got missed. I asked for atleast a partial refund and the hostess said she would need a managers approval. I proceeded to ask her to get one. She came back and have me cash out of the drawer, and said it was coming out of her pocket since she didn't have a manager. That's illegal to do and shows poor management of the establishment. I didn't ask for this and it's a way of making the customer feel bad. The proper way to handle it would have been to call the manager, and if they aren't available then ask for my info and contact me later especially since I paid via a credit card. It could be refunded later. Overall the food was really good. But if you make your employees do illegal activities you don't deserve my business. By the way this type of paycheck deduction is only legal in Tennessee if the employee explicitly authorizes it with their signature. read more

During a recent girls' weekend to Nashville, we visited Papa Turney's for some BBQ. We were staying in Hermitage, so a quick Yelp search told us this place was somewhat nearby and had some good food. Since we were hungry and wanted to try a bit of everything, we ended up getting the family pack, which I believe was $60 and included pulled pork, ribs, two large sides, three desserts, and a pack up hamburger buns. We also ordered a plate of the brisket (which comes with two small sides) since we wanted to try that too. We shared all of this amongst three people and there was plenty of food left over. The pulled pork and the ribs were great! The meat was tender, and it fell right off the bones. On the other hand, the brisket was extremely dry. I only managed to get down a few bites of that but that's only because I doused it in BBQ sauce. Our dessert options were limited because they only had pecan pie and chess pie left for the day. I was pleasantly surprised by the chess pie. I never even knew it was a thing. It's a really sweet custard pie. Too sweet for me it was a nice way to finish off the meal. Not sure I'd be back if I come back to Nashville - but only because it's a bit far from downtown, and I'm sure there are better BBQ places out there. The customer service was exceptional! We walked in and we were greeted by all the staff. We were told about the daily specials. The place it's self was a little tight on space. They have some dining tables, a music stage setup, and the register counter crammed in together. There are like two main walk ways. The restrooms are very tiny as well. The restaurant has an odd smell, not sure if it's because in front of the marina. Can't necessarily say because they're smoking the bbq because I've gone to other bbq places and it doesn't smell odd/unpleasant like that. The food itself was alright. Not good or bad. It's good enough to hold you over until your next meal. It lacked flavor and some more seasoning for sure. It all just kinda tasted bland. Even after adding more salt and pepper on the sides and drizzling the meat in bqq sauce it's wasn't sufficient enough to make it taste better. The food is awesome. Pulled pork or ribs are what I usually have, although the brisket is really good too. For sides, the smoked cabbage is very good, but the greens are out of this world - the best I've ever tasted (my Mom's greens were really good, so that's saying something - sorry Mom). Mike smokes his food on the parking lot and the smoker is going every time I've been there (except when I forgot they were closed on Mondays). The place is great, too. Walking up to the place we were very optimistic, the location was very cool right along the water. We were greeted by a very nice man I can only imagine was Papa Turney, he walked us through the menu and made some recommendations. It's tucked away in front of a gorgeous lake with a small stage for their daily band. I've never in my life had chicken wings like that. In town for a conference at Opryland and stumbled across Papa Turney's when looking for a great BBQ spot for lunch. Papa himself greeted us and made us feel most welcome and like old friends. He invited is to check out the marina location and said the food was the same but there's live Mississippi Delta blues plus his adorable grandson. How could we say no?
