Pappa V's has the best white pizza I've ever had--end of story. My girlfriend and I, both Lubbock natives, moved to Austin and have been on an epic quest to find a white pie that's even close. I've only lived Lubbock a short time and this is the best pizza in town by far. The dough is so soft and fluffy, it has great cheese pull and the toppings don't fall off and the pizzas not flimsy. But let me tell you the best thing ever is their tiramisu!!!! I absolutely love tiramisu and I order it from any restaurant that carries it. We chose Papa V based on its reviews. Our experience, however was less than stellar. We dined in on a Saturday evening and it was expectedly busy. As we approached the counter to order one young man noticed us looking at their large menu on the wall and offered us some handouts for easier viewing. I appreciated that! However once we reached the cashier, she never looked up from the register. I stood there for almost an entire minute wondering if she was placing another order before I looked around the screen when she glared back at me, seemingly surprised that a customer had entered and wanted to eat. Not even at this point was there a hello or "can I help you?" It was very bizarre. After we got our drinks we looked for an open seat. As I said, they were busy so there were no clean tables. We aren't above wiping our own table and moving the dirty dishes...so that's what we did. While we waited on an opportunity to get a rag, the girl who came to clean the other booth behind us avoided us like the plague. We didn't expect her to clean, we just wanted the rag. As we waited on our order I watched the families dining and noticed the demeanor of the other employees. One girl delivering pizzas to tables was notably miserable. I watched her nonchalantly throw down paper plates on a table and roll her eyes. I can't imagine why people who despise the public are customer facing. The young guy bussing tables was much friendlier than the girls running the front. By the time our order came I was more than ready to find out why this place had earned so many 5 star reviews. Unfortunately, I was never able to gather why the ratings are so high. By my assessment the pizza itself was middle of the road in flavor. The unnecessarily heavy amount of cheese weighed down the flimsy crust to the point it was inedible without utensils. The sauce? Forget it. Non-existent. I'd compare it to cheesy bread with toppings. And if that's your preference, by all means...dine here. If not, I'd say pass...on all counts. read more

If you've lived in Lubbock since the 70's, you are probably aware of Jerry Mazzamuto, the original owner of One Guy from Italy. Jerry is back in business in Lubbock. He named this restaurant in honor of his father. He came over and spoke to my family for about 20 minutes. My kids got a kick out him and his stories. Oh, and the food was damn amazing too as it always used to be. My son said it was the best Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo he's ever had. I gotta get that calzone on a future visit. read more

Jerry is still the man! Mother in law was passing through Lubbock and I asked her to grab a few calzones for me. Jerry Jr. threw in an extra calzone because I had even called a few weeks prior to see if they could ship some to Colorado. MIL said that was the best slice of pizza she's had in years. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming when she was there. The calzones are still the best I've ever had. I've had them from all three places locally (Darios, One Guy's, and now Papa Vs).
