Ms Ruth puts in the perfect amount of condiments so you're not overwhelmed with one flavor over another. It's something that you just have to go and try for yourself. My son has been recommending Papa's Deli for years, and my wife and I finally gave it a try. The "Deli" is a small counter in the corner of the Seco Mini Mart. In addition to their sandwiches, they also sell meats and cheeses by the pound, along with various sides, such as potato salad and macaroni salad. I ordered their #10 Italian, and my wife ordered the #8 turkey. These sandwiches are unbelievable. The meats and cheeses were fresh and flavorful, the cheese was perfect and the other ingredients worked great together to make these sandwiches a pleasure to eat. My wife said hers was "the best sub she's ever had". There is so much sandwich here, that unless you have a super-big appetite, they are probably perfect for splitting. The sandwiches were $14.99 each, which is only a couple of bucks more than the Jersey MIke's that we USED to get, but it is three times the sandwich. The staff is very friendly. I mentioned that it was my first time getting a sandwich there, and one said " You'll be back, it's always good to meet a new customer". I was joking around and said "How can you be so certain I'll be back?", and he replied "Once you have one of our sandwiches, you won't be going anywhere else". So right he was. The sandwich's are bomb, when they actually pick up the phone. The hours say till 4pm but multiple times I have called around 2/3 pm and the phone is off. Seems like they close whenever its convenient for them, but disappointing when u call at 2:45 and the phone is already "off the hook". Based off 2 visits. Visit #1 5/5. I got the Italian combo and it was damn near perfect. Younger guy and girl taking orders and making great sandwiches. Large portions. No complaints. Cut in half (which is pretty standard for all sub shops). Visit #2 1/5. The same younger girl was taking orders, but an older (not old) lady was making the sandwiches and helping take calls. The woman in front of me asked if they could cut the sandwich into 3 or 4 slices. The older lady rudely interjected and basically said no. That they don't cut sandwiches and she would need to do it on her own. Not my sandwich but definitely off putting. I then order the turkey avocado. I get my sandwich and immediately notice it's no where near the size of my first visit. However understanding the Italian has more meat options, not a huge deal. I take a bite and within seconds disappointment sets in. Spinach bitter and partly wilted, almost no avocado, and overall just lack luster. I'll go back a 3rd time hoping my 2nd visit was just an off day with a staff member having an off day....but just order the Italian combo to be safe. The Italian cold cut samich is the best in SCV. The amount of meat and cheese is tremendous. It eats well with the shredded lettuce, tomato, onion and generous dressing and mayo. If you're looking for a review about how good the food is. I will say it is very good. HOWEVER the older female worker has an absolutely horrible attitude. Me and my man both work in the food industry and talk to customers daily so we are very nice to workers everywhere we go. However the lady that took the order was extremely short with us. Wasn't sure what to expect when we drove up. It's a market/deli. Almost didn't see the Papa's Deli sign. They have a really good selection of sandwiches and wraps. I had an oven roasted turkey sandwich with provolone cheese on a roll. My husband had roast beef on a roll. The sandwiches were huge! So good too! The prices were so affordable. $11.99 for the turkey and $12.99 for the roast beef. The owners were so very friendly. I only wish that I lived closer so that I could eat here more often! read more

What you'll learn quick about Santa Clarita is that some of the best spots to eat are hidden gems. This liquor store with Deli in it is one of them. First thing I noticed is how busy it was at around noon on a Saturday, and not a bad /overcrowded busy. It really gives "Cheers" vibes. It seems this is a well known spot for the locals neighbors. The customer service, top tier. Not only were they very kind, they knew their menu so navigating around our likes and dislikes was easy and they were able to provide recommendations with ease. We didn't wait very long, maybe no more than 10 minutes or so. We hung back a bit in no rush mode, cruising the aisles of the liquor store for drinks and chips we didn't need. We ordered: The Pastrami Ruben on Sourdough and the Turkey Sandwich using the Pepper Turkey (#10 - can't remember the name) on sourdough as well. So one hot and one cold. - Note. Tbh, 2 people could share a whole sandwich sided with chips and a drink and would be full. These are monster sandwiches. The Pastrami Rueben- Eat it hot. If you have to wait long or try to save any of it, it's def a sogger. There's a lot of flavors happening. Think of Turkey and Cranberry together , that savory sweet. It's very good. With lots of crispy, fresh veggies, we had pickles, lettuce, olives and it comes with sun dried tomatoes in it (a nice switch up from fresh tomatoes) with thin pieces of thin crispy bacon. The staff is very friendly, and the deli is clean and welcoming. We ordered two sandwiches, a potatoes salad and macaroni salad. The Cabana Club on sourdough was yummy. The New Yorker unfortunately was not good. The fresh mozzarella was not on the sandwich. The prosciutto was extremely tough. I had to take it off the sandwich. It appeared to be the dried end with a very tough vein of gristle. The potato salad was good for deli salad. The macaroni salad was much too sweet for our liking.
