This is a beautiful place to have dinner. The Japanese aesthetic makes the experience very enjoyable. The service was great and our waitress was incredibly attentive and helpful. We began with spicy edamame which we liked, although we prefer a sauce or marinade to provide the spice instead of seasoning. The Dragon Fish drink was incredible and a must-get in my opinion. Next we had a spicy tuna roll and an order of crispy rice. The spicy tuna roll was outstanding. For the crispy rice, we would've liked for it to have spicy tuna instead of the plain tuna tartar as it was a bit bland, but very fresh. We finished off with the paper tuna roll. This roll blew it out of the park, the Nikkei sauce gave it an amazing citrusy finish. We did ask to change the normal tuna tartar for spicy tuna on this roll for more flavor. Paper fish is a super cool and trendy restaurant that has really good appetizers as well as delicious sushi, of course. I think that it shares a space with a hookah lounge too but we didn't try that out. It would be a five star experience for me but we were sitting at a table right next to the hookah lounge (only seperated by a curtain) so we kind of had a conflict of vibes between the upbeat house music in the restaurant and the rap music coming from the hookah spot. Also I could smell the hookah which I don't mind, but others probably would. Overall I decided to go here for my girlfriends birthday dinner instead of spending $700 at Chotto Matte and I'm glad I did it. The food was basically the same. Paperfish has a bit of a speakeasy feel when you arrive. It takes a minute to find the entrance which is on the backside of a building that fronts S. Miami Ave. Sort of like an alleyway between the building and the longtime Argentinian restaurant on Brickell, Novecento. The later it gets the more Paperfish starts to feel like a club with a DJ pounding his beats into the evening. The noise level can make conversation a bit challenging but it's definitely a fun and energetic spot. First let's talk about the food, which was definitely top-notch. We shared the Omakase as well as the Wagyu Gyoza and Wagyu bao. To be clear what Paperfish calls Omakase is not Omakase. It's really a very good, very high-end sushi boat. The sushi was fresh and inventive. The tiraditos were delicious. For us the highlights clearly were the Maguro with foie and the scallop with truffle nigiri. We had to order extras of both. The one food fail was the "Wagyu" bao, which was to say the least overcooked and was more like a skirt steak. The wine list was small but very good and more than covered the menu. The service was friendly but in true Miami style there were failings. For one, our food took way too long to come out, which may be a result of the fact that they present it basically as a sushi boat instead of a true Omakase experience which is presented by course. Our server was sweet as could be and left few things to criticize, but when it came to presenting a wine bottle, let's just say some training is badly needed. And at the end, our server felt the need to explain how the tip was divided among the staff in an effort to get us to potentially tip more than the automatic 18% which was included on our bill. It just seemed a bit declase. All in all Paperfish is a very fun spot with great sushi and we will definitely be back. read more

The menu is still limited, what you see online is not what they will offer in-person, but there is still a good variety. They have so many fun cocktails, we tried several and were not disappointed by any. The fish was buttery soft and almost melted in your mouth, we had about four different rolls and three different nigiri--all incredible, highly recommend the acevichado and spicy tuna roll. The food was delicious, which balanced out the mediocre service. For a Monday afternoon I was expecting better service, specially for the price of the food items. The problem with this sushi restaurant is not one of the workers or chefs is japanese. I ordered the uni which was rotten, tasted like a dumpster, maybe even worse than that. Eating the uni resulted in me having food poisoning for two days. The other stuff I had was decent (good ingredients) but prepared very sloppily. They comped me for the uni which was ok, but my whole meal really should have been paid for. The customer service was good and apologetic but doesn't come close to making up for serving someone rotten sea urchin and not letting them eat for free. A japanese sushi chef would have never made this mistake, as they are constantly checking and tasting the different sushi to make sure it is good.
