I've been in here a couple times now but I've never sat down to order a meal off the menu. Due to their location next to the movie theater, it's an ideal spot for a quick drink before or after your show. The bar staff has always been very friendly and quick, I think because they understand a lot of the bar only patrons may be in a hurry. The margaritas are usually pretty good here and made with real lime, which I prefer over the fake squeeze stuff. The queso is really good too, almost worth the trip by itself. I'd like to come back some time and try some of their (great smelling) food. If I do, I'll make sure to update accordingly. read more

We ordered a pitcher of blended margaritas but before deciding on the flavor, we asked our server which was the most popular - he said Raspberry so we went with that. Kudos for being strong but the tequila with that flavor was not a good mix. We tried adding lemon/lime juice and mixing it up real well (per our servers suggestions) but we'll never order that flavor again. He was helpful in that he made suggestions on how to make it taste better without having to pay to have a new one made, but not in understanding that it was unpleasant to drink. We'll go with something sweeter next time! I ordered the loaded steak bowl which came towered high with fresh ingredients and a delicious southwestern ranch dressing, great for sharing or taking home leftovers! My friend got a few of he tacos and really enjoyed them. The parking situation can be tough on weekends because of AMC being right next door but there are empty lots farther down with plenty of spots. I went here before a movie for a quick bite to eat and was not disappointed! Our waitress, Sabrina, was delightful and made sure we had everything we needed without being over bearing. We had chips and salsa to start and the chips were probably the best restaurant chips that I ever had. They were not too greasy or salty and needed another basket of them. The salsa was a little spicy but I'm weak when it comes to spice. I had the pinapple margarita on the rocks(6.50 plus 1 for the flavor) and a bud light (3.50.) I will probably just get beer next time but the margarita was tasty. I had a rice bowl with the green goddess dressing. It was extremely filling and between the chips and rice bowl, there was more than enough food. I ended up taking half of it home. We also got 2 gringo tacos which were very good and a lot bigger than expected. It took a little longer than expected but Sabrina apologized and said than had a new cook even though we hadn't complained. A perfect place to come before a movie or for happy hour. read more

My esteemed yet discriminating group of volleyball teammates and I had the incredible pleasure of having Zach as our waiter for Sunday Brunch. This guy is by far the most outstanding server around. Take Out: DON'T DO IT! 1.) we had a time slot for pickup, food came out to us after 90-100 minutes after the designated pickup slot. 2.) there was hair in the rice we ordered, and multiple strands of it. 3.) tacos were very greasy. 4.) food was cold upon arrival (obviously with a 90-100 minute delay) 5.) margaritas were way too sweet Dining in Person: 1.) food was tasty and not greasy like mentioned above. 2.) we were tended to right away. 3.) margarita (ordered multiple) were not too sweet. 4.) live music on the patio! Food wasn't what I was hoping for, raised primarily off Spanish cuisine and tastes, this was definably not something I enjoyed or frankly was happy for paying for. Really can't say I recommend the place as of now, hopefully they find improvement and reconsider food preparation methods for the types of menu options. I don't know why I keep coming back here. Well... yes I do. It is next to the movie theater and out of pure laziness and hope that they will get better, my son and I came back again. However, I am here to say that no matter how many times I click my heels together, the great food will not come home to this restaurant. First check out the Salsa pictures I added. Really? Seriously... REALLY?!?! Salsa is meant to drip down your face and into your shirt if you can't get a napkin there quick enough. Everyone knows that the word 'Salsa' in Spanish means, "wash your clothes in cold water after presoaking your shirts." This was not Salsa. It was red chunky toothpaste. The taste was gross too. To be fair it was free. So why am I complaining about free Salsa? I came here for it! The server told me after that they change up the recipe every week. I sort of in theory like how they experiment like that. But they should warn people. This sets the mood for the rest of the meal. The server could have said this weeks Salsa is very thick and here is our complimentary scissors to cut your piece of salsa off. You can then neatly lay it on our chips. On the other hand, the appetizer, 'Papi's Nachos' was probably the best I have ever had. It was amazing and crazy huge. Check out the pictures. It could have been a meal for 4-6 people by itself. I ordered the Burrito Grande with chicken. The plate came with baked beans and rice. The baked beans were oddly on the sweet side. The rice was the same rice as was inside the burrito too. Whatever. You have to get rid of the extra food that is made somehow. The burrito was ok. The server was very nice. In fact it was the first time since coming here that I had a server that was really a server who was caring and engaging and joking in this place. In all honesty, if it was not for the Papi's Nachos and the really good server we had, I would have given this place 2 stars. There are a lot of reviews of this restaurant. It averages 3 stars. Some of them are strictly for the bar. The owner of this place obviously does not care what any of us write. What a shame. They have a good location and can do so much better. read more

Taco Tuesday, restaurant week and this place is DEAD?! Uh oh. Hostess sat us, in ripped booth chair, and said waitress would be over. No menus, no drinks, she comes back and says "I'll guess I'll be your waitress!" Warns us that they serve RC Cola after my wife orders a diet with lime (didn't say coke, we like Pepsi), lol. We asked for menus, she comes back and I ask if this place is more "Tex-Mex" (it is, albeit poorly done) and she didn't understand what I was asking but said "it's authentic Mexican" (it's not). Ordered chips. Probably the only Mexican restaurant aside from a fast-food place, that charges for chips. Got it with queso. Not awful but queso was thick. Ordered quesadilla, wife fajitas. What a disaster. Food came out quick, that's when it all went bleh. Wife tried her chicken before assembling her fajitas, as it looked suspicious...I did the same with my rice. The chicken was cooked rubbery, the rice was hard (undercooked). My chicken in the small piece of quesadilla I ate was also rubbery. A total loss, we called the hostess/server (now also bartending?!) over and said we just couldn't do this. I have never disliked a Mexican restaurant, especially enough to leave. No argument from her, no manager either...came back with a gift certificate asking that we not count the place out...told her we weren't even interested in coming back, asked us to give it to someone else. I said it's literally not necessary...and after some back and forth we took it but honestly I wouldn't give this to anyone I care about. Paid for our drinks and chips and tipped the waitress (who was nice but bizarre). Don't even think it's the cooks fault (too much). More a prep issue, I'd guess...frozen chicken thawed or marinated too long. The rice just undercooked. Shell was obviously not authentic. Sad. Do not go here for Mexican food. I went here for a work happy hour, so I can't speak too much on the food itself. Though we did have the free nachos and salsa at the bar. At first, yes the salsa is a little different but it definitely has a good kick to it! Which in my opinion I loved it, I saw some reviews said they thought the chips were "oily" but they didn't seem that way to me at all. I had a beer at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and always asking if we needed another. It was pretty empty as it was a Tuesday after 5pm, but they had a nice happy hour which who doesn't like a good happy hour. They do have a very loud blender to make their margaritas in, so loud to the point where you just have to stop talking until its over because you cannot hear a thing. They also have darts there to play as well. I would come back to try their food as it sounded pretty good. read more

The Papi Grande Nachos were bad and had a bad aftertaste. No salsa, no guac. No extra plates to share. The fajitas did no come with salsa or guac or sour cream. Had to ask the waitress for extra napkins and she brings two for a table of four. Kept forgetting stuff we asked for and was too late when she was reminded. I'm a big fan of Papi Grande's. My boyfriend and I have been frequenting it a lot this spring. The happy hour deals are wonderful - selection draft beers for $3 a bottle, and margaritas for $5. Our favorite thing to get from the menu is the Hermano Taco - a crispy piece of chicken with melted cheese and pickled cabbage all in a delicious taco shell. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it seems that they change their daily salsa selection. I went on a Tuesday and Friday in the same week and both times the salsas were different. I was in here twice in the last 2 weeks. I first stopped in right before seeing a show next door at the AMC theater on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too busy so that was nice being able to get in and out right away. They actually offer a free bowl of queso if you buy 2 movie tickets next door- who doesn't love free queso?! I ordered the chicken chimichangas and they were so good! The chicken was shredded and there was plenty of it! The queso and salsa was excellent and the chips were hot & fresh! It's been a while since we're eaten here. Doubt they'll see us again. When I ordered a club soda with lime, the waitress said "don't order that. It doesn't taste like club soda, and most people send it back.". Ok...... It's pretty obvious that they've changed chefs since our previous visit. The tortillas (if you can call them that) had the taste and texture of Chinese noodles. Maybe someone thinks they're being creative with this, but it falls way short of being a success. I ordered the Burrito Grande with tequila lime shrimp, rice, beans, cheese, Pico.... and...a surprise notlisted on the menu description.... Several grilled Chipotle peppers. HOT!! . When I asked if they were supposed to be in my Burrito, the waitress said "they're in the rice". Ok, but there were several in the Burrito. "That's because there are peppers in the rice.". Ok..... In case you were wondering, there is no mention on the menu of Chipotle peppers in the rice. The waitress apologized, but that's all I got for my burning tongue and half eaten meal. I've gone twice for the Trivia Night event on Wednesdays. The food is typical American-Mexican and not bad. Prices are good, parking is ample, bathrooms are clean... But service can definitely be improved. Both times I have gone it has taken wait staff longer than average to take orders or check up on drinks, leaving us to wonder if we should sit there hangry, or run to the Taco Bell in the shared lot and just bring some Chalupas back to trivia. read more

This place was ok; I would say mediocre Mexican restaurant in the Buffalo area. Our waitress was super nice and helpful. I really appreciated her attentiveness to our table. Good service always make the experience better. This is a Mexican restaurant next to the Maple AMC. They do have specials if you show your movie tickets-we were able to get free queso if you bring your movie stubs. This was a plus as we were on our way to the movies and were able to benefit from this. They also had happy hour-$5 for their regular margaritas-wahoo! I got one on the rocks and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the shrimp taco. It was good but I wish they had regular Mexican cheese instead of the melted queso. I ordered the quesadillas and the meal was huge! I probably could have just had the margaritas and chips they give you along with a taco. Of course I went in super hungry and ordered this and didn't really touch it. Oh well leftovers. Their quesadillas were also made with their queso cheese which I wish they didn't use. It was a little heavy and shredded cheese would have been better. I was full for the quesadillas but was not full for dessert. We ordered the fried ice cream and it was yummy! Not really a fan of this place. Let's start with the positive. The service was great, our waiter was friendly, welcoming, attentive and super observant. She didn't have to wait for me to ask for another refill she just passed by and gave us one. The environment has a Mexican atmosphere, I liked the Spanish music that was playing. The start up chips with salsa tasted really good. Lastly, My fiancé liked that the Shrimp burrito he ordered was filled with a lot of jumbo shrimps. Shifting gears, to the negative. The menu has limited options. The vegetarian quesadilla that I ordered was not really flavorful and too toasted in the bottom . The rice and refried beans that comes with the order, didn't really taste good. I found it weird that the yellow rice was chewy & the refried beans was bland. Lastly, the lemonade was too bitter. I have tried many Mexican food in the area and this restaurant by far, does not compare. This my third time coming in for the new Wednesday night DJ Trivia. This time we are outside at the patio bar. The atmosphere outside was nice. Matt the bartender was great and very attentive. I ordered the South of the Border Cobb with Balsamic dressing. It comes with chicken, corn, avocado, black beans, Pico, shrededd romaine. It came out in this small bowl and I thought it wasn't going to be enough food but this was the Mary Poppins handbags of bowl. (points if you get the Mary Poppins reference). This salad was very filling and super tasty. So if you're in for lighter fare try this one. Last time I had the red enchiladas, beef and cheese smothered in red sauce and served with rice and beans. This dish was delicious. I could have used a little more cheese but I'm an addict. So if you wanted more filling dinner you can't go wrong! The service has gotten progressively better over the few weeks since trivia started so they have the kinks worked out with staffing a larger, all at once crowd. The only real complaint I have is the restrooms could use a good cleaning. They are not overly dirty and I've seen worse, they just are dusty and seems not cleaned daily which I expect from a restaurant restroom. Easy fix though and will not keep me from coming.. Overall great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food....win, win, win! read more

My boyfriend and I had movie tickets for the theater next door so I decided to look this place up since I knew a Mexican restaurant existed here. When I saw the terrible reviews, it made me really curious why people didn't like it so much! I had to see this for myself. The worst case scenario was that we would have some beers and walk over to the theater. So the whole time, I kept saying to myself, "When is something bad going to happen?" It didn't. Nothing bad happened. Actually, we got free queso for having movie tickets! That was a huge win! I thought that the service was great and the food was average. The three stars is for the food. I've had better Mexican and I've had worse Mexican so I put it right in the middle. I really can't complain about beers, burritos, and free queso so I'll be going back again to have dinner before another movie night. Don't go expecting the food to wow you but instead enjoy some beers and queso before your next movie! read more

Upon my first arrival I sat at the bar, the bar tender wasn't really friendly or informative. He looked like he would have rather been elsewhere but I didn't let his service effect my good time. I stopped in here tonight with a couple coworkers to check out their Taco Tuesday deals. A few employees were outside fixing up what looks like it will be a nice outdoor bar area just in time for Cinco De Mayo. I was greeted right away by our waitress who was very friendly and attentive. She made sure we had everything we needed. I had a lime margarita and a chicken taco. The margarita was decent, not too sweet, not too spring. The chicken on the taco was a little dry but good enough that I would give them another shot. The fajitas had salsa molcajete, roasted poblano peppers, grilled onions, fresh avocado. Perfect species and flavor. My friend had Chimichanga it flour tortilla stuffed with beef, Monterrey Jack cheese & fried until crispy. Smothered in salsa roja, salsa verde and queso blanco and topped with shredded lettuce and served with rice. It was extremely tasty and she really enjoyed it. Wow. Just wow. I have lived near Sweet home and Maple for about a year now and have been up and down maple road hundreds of times and only recently have stopped in here. All I can say is it blew my expectations away. I was thinking, "Oh cool, a taco place...I kind of want tacos...Let's go". Little did I know what I was in for. So many different choices on the menu. Me and my girlfriend got 6 different tacos to mix and match. They look small but they are filled with nothing but goodness. The drinks are amazing as well. Such great service also.
