Can't believe I had never been to a Pappadeaux restaurant before this! I used to see them all over. The restaurant is pretty big so it works be good for a big group. Our server was super nice and attentive. I had one of the specials with shrimp, crab and scallops in pasta with a decadent sauce and it was delicious! My cousin had the crispy salmon and it looked amazing. She really liked it too. The got one of the quesos for an appetizer and it quickly fit cold and hard so I likely wouldn't get that again. Do I think this is authentic Cajun food, probably not. But who cares when the food is this fits? read more

Thank god there was no wait to be seated, but when I got my food and emptied my ramekin (of green onions) there was OLD LEFT OVER FOOD. I'm assuming it was red sauce. So nasty I can't even believe it. I've never had this experience at any other one. I'm disgusted . Also I had a food modification which the server messed up and she asked me if I wanted to just pick the meat out instead of getting a new one . We had a lunch group today at Pappadeaux. 5 women who went to college together almost 50 years ago. We started out with appetizers of crab and spinach dip with toast and it was amazing. Then, 2 of us had the grilled shrimp and grits which is always a good dish. 2 of us had the fried shrimp and 1 had the shrimp etouffe. The sides consisted of fries, spinach, green beans, etc. and all were very good. Our server, Bryanna was very attentive. The food came out quickly and was hot. Staff was friendly. Our waiter Destined did a great job. You could tell he was relatively new at this but he got our orders and drinks right. My glass of wine was to the tippy top of my glass which I appreciated. We started with the crab dip. It was delicious and hot when brought to the table. My husband ordered the filet med rare and whole lobster. The steak came out well. The manager came over and agreed it was well and ordered a refire. It took a really long time for the new steak to come out and the filet itself was now med rare but was a poor cut. He took a few bites and we packed it to go. I ordered the redfish with crab topping. It was absolutely delicious until I got to the rubber band, probably from produce or lobster claws, which was underneath a portion of my fish. I stopped the manager when I saw him passing. He looked at it, apologized of course and put it in his pocket. Before he put it in his pocket he examined it well and I could tell he knew it was from his kitchen and he was not happy. Of course that was taken off the bill completely. The rubber band really just ruined it for me that is why I gave 3 stars. We went in to order carry out. Once we finally got to order, we sat and waited. And waited. I finally went and asked about our food. Amazing, it suddenly appeared - after a 30 minute wait. Once we got to our destination, I opened the bag and found a puddle of mixed sauces and juices. The crackers, utensils and condiments were ruined. Luckily it got better from there - there were four of us and we shared the lunch shrimp and grits, gumbo and salad combo and the crawfish platter. We had more than enough food - didn't even touch the salad. The fried crawfish had a tiny kick and the crawfish etouffee a little more. The shrimp in the shrimp and grits were, pardon the oxymoron, huge, but the grits tasted a little too much like corn. (I know, grits are corn, but this was more of a "kernel corn"!flavor). Our friend, who spent 15 years in Baton Rouge, gave a thumbs up to the gumbo. Even with four of us sharing three lunch entrees, we all agreed that we ate too much - a good problem to have. All of this didn't come cheap - it was over $80 with a tip, which, to me, would have been more palatable for dinner. I had not been go Pappadeaux in a while, but knew I didn't want to wait too long to eat, so I went during lunch time. I noticed it was still somewhat packed even around noon, so I settled on sitting at the bar. We were immediately greeted by Trey who was really nice. He suggested that I try a Swamp Thing beverage since of all the times I've been to this restaurant, I've never had it ... and so glad I did try it. It was really good. It's a little on the sweet side but on a hot summer day, it would be perfect. I then ordered the shrimp gumbo. It was just ok. It was I think about $9 or $10 and the cup size was just that, but to me a little less. It was bland and needed some revamping in the taste department. For my entree I ordered the Mississippi Catfish Opelousas which consisted of blackened catfish, oysters, shrimp, jumbo lump crab, lemon garlic butter sauce, and dirty rice and Omg, it was so delicious! Everything was well seasoned and tasted fresh. Also it was a good helping of food. I do wish they had a better Happy Hour/lunch menu with more food choices with better price options. Disappointment at is best!!!! When we arrived we were told 20 minute wait. Not horrible seemed long for a Thursday afternoon but okay. 50 minutes later I went to the hostess and asked what the delay was. Somehow they found seating for us. Asked for the Manager this is a week later and never showed up. Food was good but no way up to Pappadeaux standards. The Pappadeaux Managers need to take an unannounced visit to the restaurant and see what the problem with this restaurant is. While we were waiting to eat I counted floor staff there were 14 waiters and bus service people, a bartender and it appeared to be 2 managers that ran when you looked their way. Shockingly there were 11 tables in use and a 30 minute wait. I am shocked the wait staff tolerates the mismanagement they can't be making much money. read more

I have to say, I was very disappointed in my visit here tonight. I worked in Texas some years ago, so I got to know some of the Pappa-whatever chains, and really enjoyed more than a few of them. The name may be on the building in Birmingham, but it's not the same. The building and atmosphere here are awesome. Just a lovely place with a huge bar, big patio, and lots of seating. Great potential for an awesome experience. I walked in and sat at the bar, which was pretty quiet for a Monday night. I was greeted pretty quickly by one of the two bartenders, and I thought things were going to be great. I ordered a bourbon and a water without ice, and the bartender I ordered from passed it on to the other bartender, but only partially. But things were OK, so I shrugged it off. From that moment on, I get like an afterthought. The bartenders seemed super friendly and attentive to many of the other patrons that came in, but my friend and I were largely ignored. Drinks were emptied and stayed empty until we specifically asked. We were rarely asked how we were doing or if we needed anything. This went on the whole meal. Just felt like they'd rather we'd stayed home. I will say, we did really enjoy our food. The Mardi Gras Pasta is a great dish, wonderfully prepared, and even beautifully plated. We both had it, both loved it. Kudos to the kitchen. I really wanted to love my experience, but the service kind of killed it. We probably would have stayed much longer and enjoyed things more had we not felt ignored. It wasn't the worst service I ever experienced, but I just expected more at a restaurant with this price point. I'd definitely give it another shot in the future to see if this was just a bad night, but Pappadeaux won't be my first choice in the area. read more

Pappadeaux is by far one of my favorite cajun seafood chains. I have not been disappointed yet. I have frequented the location in Texas and Atlanta several times. However, I decided to take my mother here on a mother-daughter date. You can tell from the pictures that she enjoyed herself. ;-) The drinks were incredible, and the food was top-notch. Our waitress was exceptional and went out of her way to ensure that our food was made to order. I had the blackened red snapper, and my mother had the trout. Amazing atmosphere with the outdoor seating for the casual ambience. Indoors is a little more upscale, but still comfortable. Went for lunch , while in town. Tried the 'out of the office' cocktail- very refreshing. Wanted the po boy, but on the menu it only offered shrimp and catfish, I asked for oyster, the server said it was absolutely available. The bread was omg so good, the oysters were lightly breaded and perfectly cooked, the fries were delicious as well. The sweet tea was perfect. Got the sweet potato, pecan pie to go. Long post, detail heavy! My friend from work invited me to happy hour(hh) after a tough Monday. She always wants to be fancy and I wanted seafood, so Pappadeaux was our choice. When we arrived around 430pm, the place was fairly empty, but the hostess was not immediately present. A customer that's leaving tells us, "if you want crab cakes or tilapia... they are out!" I didn't want either so we just kinda went on our way. The hostess comes up and is very pleasant, we tell her that we'd like to sit in the bar area for hh. I guess because we mentioned hh, we weren't provided with menus. She tells a passing waiter to give us hh menus. He continues whatever he's doing. We sit with no menus for about 5 mins... watching the section waiter pass us by. Finally he stops and asks if anyone has checked in with us...we say no and advised that we don't even have menus. He gets us menus and says he'll find out who has our table. He comes back a minute or so later to tell us that his name is Nicholas, he'd be taking care of us after all and to take our drink orders. We both order drinks from the hh menu, my friend asks about the tilapia... he says that he'll check. He returns shortly with the drinks, and says they do have tilapia. She orders a tilapia dish with creamed spinach and a ceasar salad from the main menu. I order calamari and a shrimp poboy w/ fries... both from the hh menu. Next, Nicholas returns to say, no tilapia. Ugh! My friend doesn't complain, she asks about a couple of other options and goes with the waiter's suggestion, another fish dish which comes with rice... she asks to replace it with the spinach. He rushes off to correct things. My calamari and her salad come... no complaints, delish! When the entrees arrive, I am shocked that my poboy is HUGE! I immediately ask if this is the hh version for $6.95, Nicholas says yeah! Ok, I'm not opposed to more than my expectation. I ask for some ranch and my friend addresses that she has rice on her plate, not spinach. He says he'll go get the spinach and take care of it since she didn't want the rice. We start to eat. Nicholas returns to say the spinach and ranch are being made. Strange but ok. He later returns with the spinach and ranch. I ask about my poboy which is heavily doused in both tartar and cocktail sauce. He says some of the cooks don't realize that the sauces should be on the side. I tell him its fine although I can't taste nothing but cocktail sauce and bread. He says no I'll get the manager... I want this to be right and you to be happy. I oblige. The manager, Erica, comes out and very sweetly asks if I want I new poboy to take home or to remove it from the bill. I say I would like a replacement for home but with remoulade. She says they don't do remoulade anymore but that she'd personally make me some... great! I appreciated thier willingness to make things right. We wait and waittttt. Finally the poboy comes in a to-go tin pan. Lol! The bills come and my drink and food items are all regular price... also, my friend has issues with her bill. We get Nicholas, explain the issues... he agrees to correct them and returns with new bills. Now only my drink is corrected, food still reg price... her bill is still incorrect. We get him again, he gets the manager, which is now Ronald. Ronald takes the bills away to correct. He returns and my bill IS STILL WRONG! Poboy is $18.95. I explain again that I only ordered the hh special, he apologizes and returns the 3rd and final time with the correct bill. Yikes! I'm not sure if Pappadeaux was having an "off night" or what, but everything overall was unacceptable for a restaurant of that caliber. Other than the calamari, the food was mediocre. The staff was VERY NICE but their were too many issues in one visit and this wasn't a busy time of day. I will probably return in the future, in hopes for the great food and immaculate service that this restaurant used to have. read more

Took my father here for his birthday per his request. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband and I had house salads and grilled snapper with lemon butter sauce and sautéed spinach. My dad had fried catfish filets with a baked potato. For dessert we all had key lime pie. Our food came out exactly right and was hot, which has been an issue at other local restaurants. The food was delicious, but the portions were far too large. We don't go to a restaurant expecting to have leftovers. The only other issue I had was being able to see the servers beverage prep area, with freezers from the dining room was not aesthetically pleasing. Perhaps management could look into reconfiguring that area in some way. Overall, a good time and great food were had by all. read more

My husband and I have discovered something this summer. Choosing to eat at the bar has resulted in some great service. Yesterday, we went to Pappadeaux. The hostess said there was a 45 minute wait for two people. I noticed empty seats at the bar and asked could we sit there. The hostess said the bar is self seating so instead of waiting for a table, we sat at the bar. As we sat at the bar, we noticed a band setting up. Soon after, we heard the smooth sounds of R&B and Pop coming from the singer, drummer, and bass guitar player. This was a nice touch to our dining experience. There were three people working the bar, but Mitchell was our main server and he was awesome. He was very helpful when we asked questions. I feel like we got our drinks and food so much quicker at the bar than we would have at a table. The food was good and the portions are a nice size. My husband and I both had food leftover to take home. This was our first time coming to Pappadeaux in almost three years and once again, we had a good experience. read more

Decided to have lunch here today.I had the shrimp and grits which wasn't all that bad, nice flavor The shrimp tasted like frozen shrimp. Or maybe they just over cooked the hell out of them. I'm sorry the shrimp was rubbery and over seasoned. For the money you spend you would think the shrimp would be more succulent. The grits wasn't bad not sure where the cheese was. Unfortunately, not the best shrimp and grits I've had. Also the gumbo wasn't bad when I added a little (lot) salt to it. I can understand why they don't put salt in it or lack of.
