We came here for lunch today and were in a rush because we wanted to return our rental car and get to the airport on time for our flight. Our waiter more than understood the assignment and got us out of there in about 50 minutes, as well as offering to-go sodas and water for the road, which was appreciated. I'm not a seafood fan but my boyfriend is, and used to come here a lot when he lived in Houston. He got the hazelnut tilapia and I got a chicken linguine dish. We both got the lunch portions but mine was HUGE, which was a little unfortunate because I couldn't take any leftovers with me. Apparently the restaurant is normally very busy, for lunch it was busy but not packed which was nice. Went to Pappadeaux for my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint. We started with the Crispy Alligator (tastes like chicken) and the Shrimp & Crawfish Foundeaux (creamy with lots of meat). For main courses, we got the Texas Redfish which was buttery and melt in your mouth along with the Pappadeaux Platter. For the Pappadeaux platter, I'm pretty sure it could feed about 4 people, so it's definitely not for one person. My dad and I split that but we came home with a ton of leftovers! I've been going to Pappas' seafood restaurants since they opened the first Pappas Seafood Houston on the Southwest Freeway back in 1980. Always been a great fan and strong promoter of their restaurants. So my criticism here is really mean to be constructive and information. I typically eat the Pappadeaux's in Stafford near one of my offices and the the Memorial location as it's close to home. But since we were meeting my daughter and son-in-law for dinner we split the drive and met at the one on 1960 near Willowbrook Mall. We had reservations at 7:00 PM and arrived a bit early, but we seated at 7:08, which is certainly acceptable, so things were off to a good start. As we were seated the vibe just didn't seem the typical Pappas style. The table wasn't completely cleaned when we arrived, and it was set for 5 people. We sat down and the serve came over with the typical "welcome to Pappadeaux's" and asked for our drink orders. At that point we told her it would only be 4 of us and we'd be ready to orders some cocktails when she came back with the waters. She returned and we ordered our cocktails; after about 10 minutes she returned with 2 of the 3 cocktails and didn't mention anything about the other. About 5 minutes later she returned and said they ran out of Campari and couldn't make my Negroni, and asked if she could get me something else, I declined. The server finally took the extra menu and place setting when I handed the to her as we received our entrees; we worked around them throughout cocktails and the appetizer. After the entrees arrived and we'd had a chance to try them, we all agreed the food wasn't up to Pappadeaux's standard, with the exception of the Cajun Chicken Tenders. The stuffed crab and stuffed shrimp were actually BLAND, with very little flavor at all, the fried catfish were good but the cornbread crust seemed a bit overly crunchy. We all had baked potatoes "all the way" and they too weren't up to the Pappadeaux's standards, at least not our usual locations. They toppings were very skimpy and potatoes weren't very hot, just lukewarm. All in all, it wasn't a very good experience and won't turn me against Pappadeaux, but I'll scratch this location off my list. Seems the management of various locations have a big effect on the quality of the restaurant, the food and your dining experience. read more

This Pappadeaux location has been here since I was a young child. We were so excited back then when it was built. Now, three decades later, I'm able to dine here with my family. We've gotten to-go orders and we have dined inside the main area of the restaurant. Ordering to-go, is so easy online. You order, pay and then pull up to a curbside spot. A friendly staff member greets you with your food and you're done! For dine-in experiences, the process is smooth. It's a large location so we've never had to wait in line. We are seated right away. Our favorite server is CARLOS. Ask for him when you go. He's so friendly and works efficiently. He got our order perfectly and even gave me a free sprite to-go. He brought our toddler's food before our entrees which was awesome. She started chowing down right away. My husband and I had gumbo as appetizers, as usual. The only reason this location is 4 and not 5 stars is due to flavor. The gumbo roux just isn't as flavorful or spicy as other locations. They should punch it up! The kick is missing. Now, they do load it up with shrimp, seafood and sausage so that's great. For the fried shrimp platter I got, the coating on the shrimp was slightly too thick and the taste of the shrimp itself was slightly subpar. I had a great time at Pappadeaux to celebrate a cousin's birthday. We had a group of about 15 people and they were able to accommodate us with great service. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. I had the Texas Redfish Pontchartrain that was very tasty and fulfilling. My only complaint is that the machine went down that makes the swamp thing and 3 wheel motion because I was really looking forward to having a good frozen drink. I tried their new food item, The Tagliatelle pasta, which included crab, scallops and shrimp in a delicious, creamy pasta sauce. Plus the Swampthings are always a hit! The only thing I wish was different, was that the dessert menu no longer includes the sweet potato pecan pie. That dessert is legendary but it has somehow left the menu. This location is only getting one star because of one server named Jonae W. If not for her I would give this location nothing if it was possible. I call immediately and no less than 10 to 15 rings went by before a man rudely answered with a lackadaisical tone and said hold on for a minute and then clicked hold on me. After a while he came back didn't introduce himself and just said how I help you I indicated that I believe my card was there and that I needed to make sure before I turned around. He sounded unempathetic and apathetic and just asked me to repeat myself cuz you couldn't hear me. I was already annoyed with how I was treated and then I'm super annoyed with having to repeat myself... reluctantly, I did. He said, rudely, that he would handle it and that I needed to come in and show my ID. When I stated that I needed confirmation that it was there, he hung up in my face. My first thought was... He put me on hold to go check if my card was there. But it was a long long time and then I realized... No... He indeed hung up in my face. I immediately called back and someone answered within a few rings. I told her I spoke with a male and needed to know to whom it was I spoke. she acted clueless and said no male answers the phone and that I was talking to a female. I confirmed that it was a male and I need to know what his name was. I heard her talking amongst herself and some people. She didn't put me on hold. So I heard the entire conversation. one of the hostesses or servers mentioned a guy named isaiah. Bingo. I could tell that she and no one else wanted to give up his name. Then she said oh I need to put her on hold. Then she clicked hold. So someone else answers the phone and I was bewildered as to what was going on. I asked who am I speaking with now. They said that they would help me and that I probably was talking to a female earlier. (Why on Earth would you argue with me knowing who I spoke with?? So condescending and weird.) I ignored it because I just don't have time to argue with such foolishness and said I just want to make sure my card is there. she asked for my name and information again which was strange because Isaiah got the information from me and told me he was going to be right on it and now she's telling me she never even heard of this concern. When I was beginning to tell her the information another female hops on the phone and announces that she's the manager and how can she help me. This entire interaction is sloppy and unprofessional and is very very low on customer experience. I am disgusted and appalled. With an attitude, I answered that this was supposed to be announced and taken care of and I asked who the guy was that I spoke with she dismissed it and just said how can I help you. Okay. Noted. When I told her my name she said that she would have it up front I just need to show ID. I arrive and a group of servers were there behind the hostess desk snickering and giving little smirks to each other. Yet another manager comes up to me and states that no card was turned in and I told her I literally just spoke with someone and I need my I need my card. she, clueless, responded that maybe another person spoke with me and maybe they have my card. Some apathetic person (who apparently was the manager with whom I spoke on the phone) walks up hands over the card and I asked again what was that guy's name? She just answered nonchalantly oh.. it was one of the to-go servers. I retorted oh, what's his name isaiah? Boom. She didn't want to answer but she knew that I knew. So, she answered. I said great and I walked away. I will literally never return to this location. They have so many things working against them but premier and chief among them is the lack of empathy for their customers. For my first dinner in Houston, we went to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. The menu is huge and everything sounded so good that it was hard to choose what to order. We decided on the Crawfish Etouffee, Oysters, and the Shrimp, Scallop & Jumbo Lump Crab Pappardelle Pasta.. and WOW! It was all so yummy (and BIG)! Almost done my first full day in Houston and I was still in shock at how big the portions are. Felt like I barely made a dent in my pasta. The pappardelle pasta noodles were perfect, the wine cream sauce was amazing, and (as you can see) very generous on the toppings! But the favourite was the Crawfish Etouffee. All of it was just.. My business partner and I stopped in after a meeting near willowbrook and we were met with an unkempt, unshaven, sloppy waiter. Grant was extremely unprofessional and using profanity at the table and even slipped up and used the N**** word! My wife and I ordered a dozen Gulf oysters as a starter and for our meals we ordered the tilapia with shrimp and crab meant with dirty rice and stuffed rainbow trout with wilted greens and squash. We added a side of asparagus. A frozen top shelf Margarita and a glass of wine. Service was awesome, meal came at a good pace from starter to meal and the waitress was awesome checked in with us often and we never ran out of water. Waitress also removed plates and dishes quickly as we finished with them so the table never got loaded and we always had room. The only bad thing is the noise level in restaurant is high but still didn't have an issue hearing my wife as we talked. Overall another great meal at Pappas, we will be back for sure. I will say that the restaurant is pricy but it shows on the quality of the food and size of portions are huge. We have eaten at many Pappas restaurants and never had bad service. read more

Rule of thumb as a bartender/server... If you see a person sitting solo, please try to strike up a conversation with the customer whether or not they're on their phone or not. Feel the customer out to see if conversation is warranted. Customer Service should be of the utmost importance. I didn't even get the bartenders name that served me. I'm usually a great reviewer and for presentation of the food it should get 4 stars but the taste of the food was "ok" the drink was better. The salmon was overly drenched in butter and way too salty. The server asked if I would like some bread which was nice (as well as water) but he forgot abs served me bread anyway. Attentiveness to your customers is also important. A 15% tip shouldn't be automatically expected, it should be worked for and I usually tip above 20%.
