Wasn't overly seasoned, which I appreciate, the quality of meat speaks for itself. fat to meat ratio on the rack was superb - just enough to give flavor but not too much that you have more fat than meat. the saffron Risotto was rich and deep in flavor. Paired really well with the Chianti . Friends had the Branzino and Pappardelle buttera both were great, special mention to the pasta that was Al dente to perfection and the sweet and spicy sausage . This was my second time coming to Pappardella and it was just so incredible once again! We ordered the tricolore salad which is always a hit, and the burrata was so creamy -- melt in your mouth. We ended up both choosing the same pasta dish, the pappardella with vodka sauce sausage and peas. The pasta was so fresh (the pappardella shape specifically made in house), the sauce was delicious, and the sausage was so soft. We went for my mothers birthday, and with a reservation it took about 15 minutes to get our table, but the manager was so lovely we received two glasses of Prosecco on the house and even a scoop of gelato with a candle for my mother at the end of the meal also on the house. Such amazing service, lovely staff, and wonderful atmosphere. 10/10! read more

Came here the other day for lunch with a group of 6 people, and we didn't have a reservation, just walked in cause it was close the museum we spent the day at. Nice outdoor dining area, the weather was beautiful so that was packed, as well as the inside, so we did our best with the hostess to make a table for all of us. She pushed two tables together and made it work, so we all got seated after the tables were set and placed. We tried a little bit of everything on the menu, and a few things were misses but there were some that were great. The Cesar was a big miss, not impressed, flavorless and bland. The Garlic bread was good, and I highly recommend pairing that with the Honey Rigotta appetizer which was delicious. The Spiedini was pretty average, not bad but not great. The winner was the Papardell con Funghi, one of the specials. I would hope this would be good as it is the name of the restaurant, and I did think that was delicious. Manager came over, checked in with the table, filled the waters, very nice and friendly. That's the way managers should manage! Servers also delivered everything at once, so basically they fired everything we ordered and it came, but luckily we can eat, and made room for it all. We had made a reservation due to the proximity with the Beacon theater. Little did we know that Pappardella was the perfect choice in what one would seek for an unforgettable dining experience. The dishes were thoughtful and purposeful, with each ingredient serving its purpose. Definitely an UWS gem, from ambience to service to dining experience, it was apparent that the locals frequent and treasure this as an institution. Visiting from Los Angeles, and after more than three tries, this was the best pizza we've had in the city. Our server, Anda, was extremely informative, so sweet, and gave us a lot of tips and insight on the city. We were so lucky to experience authentic Italian pizza! The manager, Edward, also helped me on a phone call later on when I had questions. Everybody should try this place! The roasted potatoes are very good, just a heads up. Ask for Anda. read more

I've been here twice so far and both times were delicious! First time I had the gnocchi with tomato sauce, last night I had the rigatoni with meat sauce. The rigatoni was perfectly cooked, slightly "al dente" just how I like it, the sauce itself was delicious and flavorful. Good portion as well, not too big and not too small. The service here is also great, all the staff are friendly and accommodating, they don't rush you and make sure to check on you multiple times which was nice. Overall a great experience here. We got here a little before 6pm on a Saturday night (in February) and were able to be seated outside (in a heated tent with cute candles and lighting) pretty much right away without a reservation. Some free bread with plain olive oil to dip it in was brought to the table after we ordered the garlic bread appetizer (looked exactly like the pictures of it on here and was very good - sauce was amazing). We got the cacio e pepe and the Pappardelle buttera. The picture is shown with the optional freshly grated cheese on top. (We wish we asked for a bowl of extra cheese or something). He wished he added a meat to the cacio e pepe, but he said it was pretty good. The pappardelle buttera was amazing - the vodka sauce is some of the best I've ever had. I ordered a kale salad, no pignoli, dressing on the side, with salmon, rare. When the plate arrived, the salmon was perfect but the salad had pignoli and was dressed. I sent the plate back merely to have the salad redone. My meal never arrived. I asked a server to kindly find out where my dinner was. No dinner. BTW The food was delivered by bus people, not the waitress. The waitress never appeared to check on how we were doing. I questioned another server about my missing meal. Still no dinner. Eventually, I spotted the hostess, explained the glitch with my meal, and asked where my meal was. She said that she would check on it. No dinner. When the waitress appeared at a neighboring table, I FLAGGED HER DOWN. Since my granddaughter had long before finished her Caesar salad with chicken, FOLLOWED BY her pizza, I told the waitress to forget about the meal and take it off the check. (We are leaving town tomorrow and have to pack). A few minutes later, the manager (I assume) came over, apologized, and said that my dinner would be "on him". I told him that my granddaughter was finished already with her meal and to forget about it. As I awaited the check, the manager appeared with my plate and asked if I wanted him to throw it out or pack it "to go". He told me that it would make a good lunch or dinner tomorrow. I wasn't going to explain that I wouldn't be home for 3 weeks but accepted the "to go" offer in case I became hungry later. He said that the chef thought that there might be cross-contamination with the nuts and salmon; the chef remade the entire meal without anyone asking me if I had a nut allergy (I don't). When I arrived home, I discovered that kale salad contained one small lump of goat cheese, 2 small pieces of beets. The salmon was passable but overcooked. Since I didn't pay for the salmon, I won't make a fuss over the kale "salad" that I did pay for. Neither will survive 3 weeks and will be tossed. BTW: the bread was stale but my granddaughter didn't notice and I don't eat it anyway. On the positive: the weather was lovely. I enjoyed being seated outside where it is far quieter than inside. read more

Not a bad choice if you want Italian and you're in the neighborhood. Lots of choices on the menu and the place was quite full both indoor and outdoor. We had the spaghetti carbonara and the regular Caesar salad. The spaghetti was cooked pretty well. We enjoyed the sauce however the pancetta tastes a little odd. This place is really a solid three star and I gave it four stars for the really good customer service and wait staff. We got here and we're seated almost immediately but we also had reservations. The place itself looks like grandma's kitchen so it has a nice warm and comfortable Home-y feeling to it. I really liked the coloring that they used it's like a brick red and it works really well with the ambience. The wait stuff was really helpful and they made good recommendations for what we should get. I wished for an appetizer as an entrée size and they were willing to help me with that. I tried the seafood stew and we also got a tartufo for dessert. We also tried the wagyu beef appetizer. I would say all the food was fresh and well prepared but neither unique or very memorable. Three of us arrived early for dinner, around 5:45, but there were a good number of customers eating already. When we first sat down, we had some trouble getting a servers attention but once we did, service was fantastic. We started with the tomato and mozzarella salad which was solid. We used the bread to soak up the balsamic vinegar. We went with three pasta dishes but didn't realize how big they were when we ordered them. The chicken parmigiana had huge pieces of chicken and the pasta on the side was very tasty. Might be my favorite. The Pappardelle Funghi E Tartufo was nice and creamy with lots of mushrooms. The linguine with clams was also really nice. Clams were cooked perfectly. We were stuffed when we finished and still had some food leftover. This is a true neighborhood gem, and I don't say that lightly. We have been going on a very regular basis since moving back to the UWS nearly four years ago, and that was after trying all of the Italian restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. Pappardella won the home-away-from-home accolade. The staff, led by Marion the general manager, is as great as she is, which is to lovely and genuinely hospitable. The room itself is cozy but spacious and filled with neighborhood folk. The staff knows you, and the service is excellent, and attentive without being intrusive. The food and wine are the stars, of course. It is outstanding, and that is also the word from a number of friends and relations I have brought there. All love it. Among the standouts, tricolore salad with walnuts; pastas Butera and Bolognese; eggplant parmigiana (absolutely best in class); and for dessert zabaglione (smooth and balanced), cannoli, tiramisu. You cannot go wrong at Pappardella with these and everything else on the menu. We love it. read more

I took a friend out for dinner here as a gift - he wanted to visit since this spot was at a Seinfeld episode. Go figure! We shared a caprese and I had the cheese ravioli. Caprese was really good but the cheese ravioli was a bit disappointing. First, it was small four pieces of ravioli that were served. Second, it had those frozen veggies up top (peas and carrots) as... garnish? Or veggies? I don't know but I don't want to pay almost $30 for four pieces of ravioli with frozen peas on top... We hadn't been to Pappaardella in ages, and whenever we were here, we ate outside which is perfect for people watching on Columbus Avenue. Last Sunday, we got a table inside and were delighted with how much the place felt like a trattoria in Trastevere. The service was great, and I had an exceptionally fine bowl of calamari swimming in a rich broth sweetened with raisins and pine nuts. Honestly, a totally unexpected and delicious preparation. This was by far the worst meal I have ever had from Pappardella and maybe any restaurant. The arugula salad was wilted and the sliced avocado was dark brown. The asparagus was swimming in a watery pesto sauce with melted mozzarella that blended together into one large chink. The broccoli Rabe was so tough I could only eat the very tips not the stems at all and the worst was the cacio e pepe pasta. It was a congealed mess that broke apart when I tried to pick it up with my fork. Inedible. I had to throw everything out. $67 spent on it and my husband and I had to get something else for dinner. I don't know what happened to this place. I will never ever go in or order delivery again or recommend to anyone else. read more

I've not eaten here for the past few months. This has become my regular go to place for Thursday dinners and so Thursday's have quickly become my favorite day of the week. I am slowly working my way through their menu. Some favorites so far are their pappardelle buttera, pollo parmigiana, if you enjoy meat sauces than their bolognese is a must. Each week I look forward to getting their cesar salad and trying a new dish. Last week I couldn't resist and while enjoying my meal I decided to order dish to go for my Friday lunch. 5 stars for gluten free food; 4 stars for regular meals; 5 stars for delivery. If you are gluten free, you owe it to yourself to try Pappardella. They have a GF menu, so you can skip the tortuous quizzing of the waiters. The gluten free pizza was okay for GF; the GF pastas tasted a lot like the regular ones. One drawback - there is no GF papperdella! Favorite meals: papperdella with mushrooms; chick parm; buffalo ricotta app. The mushroom sauce has just a touch of cream and lots of shrooms, so perfect. The softness of the papperdella marries well with the mushrooms. The chick parm is giant - can be split by 2 people, just add a side salad. the chicken was top quality, thinly sliced, crispy with minimal breading. It wasn't all gloopy like other versions. The whipped buffalo ricotta is fun - we enjoy fighting over the honey. The asparagus and the broccoli were perfectly cooked and enjoyable. The carbonara was too creamy and a bit chalky - but perhaps it doesn't survive delivery well. The delivery is great - all foods are packed well. read more

We were pleasantly surprised. Honestly, we weren't expecting too much...I confess because it's just look like a generic, old-school Italian joint. However, we were very happy with everything! My friend got some type of an egg dish that came with a bit of salad and some nicely roasted potatoes. I got their eggplant parm, which was cooked EXACTLY how I like it: the eggplant was super tender and just melted in my mouth! The cheese on top, as well as some of the eggplant, was nicely browned - somewhat blackened - in areas. It came with some spaghetti that was cooked al dente. We were seated out in front, in the open terrace, but still were fully protected from the sun (which we specifically wanted when we were looking for a place to eat...) Service was great. The inside of the restaurant is quite large...and it's clear (after walking through the entire place, to use the restroom), that it's a pretty old establishment....i.e., the real deal. I'm generally not a fan of New York City restaurant. They're often cramped and bathrooms are downstairs and the food isn't always stellar. Thought I liked what I ordered for dinner, this was no exception. However what I found impressive was that the hostess/manager/owner (maybe? Brunch, oh how I've missed thee! After 5-mile run/walk last Saturday morning sans kids, hubby and I were famished. I quickly searched for restaurants taking reservations for outdoor dining as many have a wait. Pappardella met the ticket and was only a few blocks from where we exited the park. Upon arrival, we were the first ones there and it looks like they were just finishing setting the tables. As they ar situation on the corner, they have quite a bit of outdoor seating. Since it was scorching hot, I ordered an iced oat milk espresso which was nearly perfect if not for the excessive amount of whipped cream. I'll skip that the next time. The Mr. ordered a fresh-pressed OJ which was as expected. I ordered the eggplant shakshuka and he the brioche berry french toast. The shakshuka was delicious but could've used a bit more heat (see my excessive sprinkling of crushed red peppers). His brioche french toast was absolutely divine! It was fluffy and moist and he didn't need the maple syrup that accompanied it. He ordered a side of eggs that he forced himself to eat since the french toast was so filling. There are too many places in the city to try for brunch so I likely won't come here again for that but will definitely try them for dinner at some point. read more

I came on a whim because I wanted wood fire pizza, and I was near the museum of natural history. I was not disappointed. The pizza was delicious, as was the burrata. I was surprised the overall ratings for Pappardella were below 4 stars. I read through the other reviews, and it seems that your overall satisfaction here comes down to what you order. Maybe the restaurant is inconsistent. The gluten free options seemed to be lambasted. But, the pizza and the burrata, folks - you won't be disappointed. Others complained about the price, but maybe they were tourists or something. What do you expect? The one thing I will agree with reviews of un-stellar stars (ROUS - a princess bride Easter egg for fans of the film) would be the service. Our server was more than formidable. But getting seated was more of an issue than I've ever experienced. I couldn't tell if the host, who appeared to be the manager, was finding us a table, ignoring us, or tending to another issue. They seemed short staff, and a waitress wound up seating another party of two before us, because she seemed confused by his directives as well. Whatever. We got a table. We got a pizza. We got on with our lives. This restaurant wouldn't be the reason I come to the UWS, but I would return under the same conditions that brought me their the burst time. read more

My friend from out of town and I came here for a nice dinner after walking all around Central Park. Upon entering, the place looked familiar and I recalled that I purchased a picnic package for two here last summer. The picnic package was quite wonderful and included Italian bread, olive oil and cheese platter, 2 different types of panini, basil pesto pasta salad, fresh fruit, salted caramel cookies, as well as sparkling water! The interior is lovely with a warm, comforting feel. White / brick walls, black and white photography of places in Italy, wood chairs, white tablecloths and old fashioned bar area in the back. We were seated towards the center of the restaurant and it felt like an intimate space. We were served complimentary bread with olive oil and vinegar. The bread was soft, warm and tasty. I was trying to decide between the pasta and a chicken dish. Finally, I went for grilled organic chicken breast, which was served with orzo, zucchini, cherry tomato, feta cheese, all in a lemon parsley sauce and grilled green onion on the side. The chicken was cooked to a slight crisp and was tender, however, there could have been more flavor. I enjoyed the accompanying orzo mixed with veggies and feta cheese. The flavor of the lemon and herby spices really shone through. My friend ordered the Pappardelle Buttera, consisting of sweet and spicy sausage, sweet green peas, sage, and vodka sauce. I was really impressed by this. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the sausage was deliciously hearty, juicy and succulent - plus there was plenty of it! That sauce was incredibly aromatic and flavorful. The service was great throughout. Our waiter was friendly, kind and made sure we were taken care of. This is truly a classy and inviting place to have a meal especially after a long walk through Central Park. Prices are on par with other restaurants in the area - Most entrees cost between $20-35.
