This is a true neighborhood gem, and I don't say that lightly. We have been going on a very regular basis since moving back to the UWS nearly four years ago, and that was after trying all of the Italian restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. Pappardella won the home-away-from-home accolade. The staff, led by Marion the general manager, is as great as she is, which is to lovely and genuinely hospitable. The room itself is cozy but spacious and filled with neighborhood folk. The staff knows you, and the service is excellent, and attentive without being intrusive. The food and wine are the stars, of course. It is outstanding, and that is also the word from a number of friends and relations I have brought there. All love it. Among the standouts, tricolore salad with walnuts; pastas Butera and Bolognese; eggplant parmigiana (absolutely best in class); and for dessert zabaglione (smooth and balanced), cannoli, tiramisu. We stopped off for lunch at this restaurant which has been around for many years, It was very average. I have a Caesar Salad with chicken which was not remarkable. The chicken had no flavor and I was not a fan of the dressing. My wife had the chicken milanese which was good, but she didn't care for anything else on the plate. My older son loves chicken parmesan and is an expert. He thought his dish was slightly above average. My younger son had spaghetti with butter sauce which he enjoyed. The bread they put out for us wasn't fresh. The decor is old and there were chunks of paint falling off the ceiling which needs to be addressed. read more

This was by far the worst meal I have ever had from Pappardella and maybe any restaurant. The arugula salad was wilted and the sliced avocado was dark brown. The asparagus was swimming in a watery pesto sauce with melted mozzarella that blended together into one large chink. The broccoli Rabe was so tough I could only eat the very tips not the stems at all and the worst was the cacio e pepe pasta. It was a congealed mess that broke apart when I tried to pick it up with my fork. Inedible. I had to throw everything out. $67 spent on it and my husband and I had to get something else for dinner. I don't know what happened to this place. I will never ever go in or order delivery again or recommend to anyone else. read more

I've not eaten here for the past few months. This has become my regular go to place for Thursday dinners and so Thursday's have quickly become my favorite day of the week. I am slowly working my way through their menu. Some favorites so far are their pappardelle buttera, pollo parmigiana, if you enjoy meat sauces than their bolognese is a must. Each week I look forward to getting their cesar salad and trying a new dish. Last week I couldn't resist and while enjoying my meal I decided to order dish to go for my Friday lunch. My friend from out of town and I came here for a nice dinner after walking all around Central Park. Upon entering, the place looked familiar and I recalled that I purchased a picnic package for two here last summer. The picnic package was quite wonderful and included Italian bread, olive oil and cheese platter, 2 different types of panini, basil pesto pasta salad, fresh fruit, salted caramel cookies, as well as sparkling water! The interior is lovely with a warm, comforting feel. White / brick walls, black and white photography of places in Italy, wood chairs, white tablecloths and old fashioned bar area in the back. We were seated towards the center of the restaurant and it felt like an intimate space. We were served complimentary bread with olive oil and vinegar. The bread was soft, warm and tasty. I was trying to decide between the pasta and a chicken dish. Finally, I went for grilled organic chicken breast, which was served with orzo, zucchini, cherry tomato, feta cheese, all in a lemon parsley sauce and grilled green onion on the side. The chicken was cooked to a slight crisp and was tender, however, there could have been more flavor. I enjoyed the accompanying orzo mixed with veggies and feta cheese. The flavor of the lemon and herby spices really shone through. My friend ordered the Pappardelle Buttera, consisting of sweet and spicy sausage, sweet green peas, sage, and vodka sauce. I was really impressed by this. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the sausage was deliciously hearty, juicy and succulent - plus there was plenty of it! That sauce was incredibly aromatic and flavorful. The service was great throughout. Our waiter was friendly, kind and made sure we were taken care of. This is truly a classy and inviting place to have a meal especially after a long walk through Central Park. Prices are on par with other restaurants in the area - Most entrees cost between $20-35. I came on a whim because I wanted wood fire pizza, and I was near the museum of natural history. I was not disappointed. The pizza was delicious, as was the burrata. I was surprised the overall ratings for Pappardella were below 4 stars. I read through the other reviews, and it seems that your overall satisfaction here comes down to what you order. Maybe the restaurant is inconsistent. The gluten free options seemed to be lambasted. But, the pizza and the burrata, folks - you won't be disappointed. Others complained about the price, but maybe they were tourists or something. What do you expect? The one thing I will agree with reviews of un-stellar stars (ROUS - a princess bride Easter egg for fans of the film) would be the service. Our server was more than formidable. But getting seated was more of an issue than I've ever experienced. I couldn't tell if the host, who appeared to be the manager, was finding us a table, ignoring us, or tending to another issue. They seemed short staff, and a waitress wound up seating another party of two before us, because she seemed confused by his directives as well. Whatever. We got a table. We got a pizza. We got on with our lives. This restaurant wouldn't be the reason I come to the UWS, but I would return under the same conditions that brought me their the burst time. read more

My wife and I were visiting her sister who happens to live in NYC. Instead of pasta or pizza, we were actually there for their Weekend Brunch menu. The interior of the restaurant was really cool! There were several framed pictures of sites in Tuscany and there were wine bottles everywhere! It reminded my wife and me of our stay in Tuscany during our honeymoon. For our unlimited drinks, we decided to get both Bellinis and White Sangria. For our entrees, my sister-in-law had the Brioche French Toast, my wife had the Farmers Omelet with a side of Sausage, and I had the 'Egg'plant Parmigiana Shakshuka with a side of Sausage. My sister-in-law loved her French Toast which came with Blackberry Compote and Whipped Ricotta. My wife's omelet was filled with tomatoes, baby spinach, and ricotta and it tasted so fresh. I absolutely LOVED my plate! First off, Eggplant Parmigiana and Shakshuka are two of my favorite dishes, so combining them was just brilliant! I'm generally not a fan of New York City restaurant. They're often cramped and bathrooms are downstairs and the food isn't always stellar. Thought I liked what I ordered for dinner, this was no exception. However what I found impressive was that the hostess/manager/owner (maybe? Not sure which but she wasn't our server) was on it and working just like everyone else and making sure we had what we needed. Came here because one of the places I could get gluten free pasta. I had a lengthy conversation on both the phone and with my waiter. I wanted to make sure the Pappardelle was gluten free and resounding yeses and yeses that I was getting pappardelle. I was so excited to get a pappardelle noodle that was gluten free. Then my thirty dollar dish arrived and it was not pappardelle. It was a rigatoni noodle and not fresh pasta. It has to have been boxed. It pay have been another brand than barilla but it tasted just like boxes barilla pasta which was really disappointing coming from a place as lovely as this. The sauce was perfect. But the restaurant was a disappointment because I got something I feel I could've made at home. We also get bread at the table complementary and he asked if I wanted gluten free and so I was again excited. Until my bill came. He didn't tell me I'd be charged an extra $8. I'm just so surprised by the whole thing. Inform your customers if there is a charge for an item that would usually be free or if there is an up charge for different options. Marc D was the waiter according to my bill. Not sure if that was my guy for sure or not. The waiter was very nice but just maybe not knowing the way things worked. Visited this old school Italian American neighborhood gem before a show at the Bacon Theater. It was a Saturday night so the restaurant was busy and buzzing when we arrived. We asked our server for a few recommendations as we sipped on delicious house specialty cocktails, and we were not disappointed. For starters, we shared a Margarita Pizza made with burrata cheese (unique), and to our surprise, it came out as a flatbread (reminded me of pizzerias in Rome) perfect for an app. We took our server's recommendations and tried the two dishes named after the restaurant, the Pappardelle butter and the Pappardelle Funghi. They were perfectly cooked and delicious. Unfortunately, we ran out of time for dessert but so looking forward to being back and trying so many more dishes on this lovely extensive menu. Solid neighborhood Italian eatery. Pappardelle Funghi e Tartufo ($25 mushroom/truffle pasta) - The earthiness was extraordinary. They don't skimp on the truffle flavor or the interesting mushrooms. I'm no fungus expert, but there were probably crimini, porcini chanterelle, shiitake (maybe...?)... The pasta was the perfect texture too, definitely a deserving namesake. Agnello alla Griglia ($35 rack of lamb, milanese risotto) - High-quality lamb. We got six ribs total, which is, needless to say, a gigantic portion. The risotto was interesting! Heavy on the saffron and other spices. The texture suffered a little from takeout. All the lamb sauce also ended soaked up by the rice, but then it tasted extra good! I think they overestimated the wait time so our food tasted like it languished on the counter for a hot second. We would've appreciated an alert. read more

I went for the first time, and was glad to hear that the seafood is always prepared fresh, as our calamari and shrimp dishes were to die for. The pasta itself was cooked to perfection, and came with a generous helping of parmasean on top. We only went for lunch, but noticed that the wine list seemed extensive and well suited to the variety of sauces and dishes. Lovely and attentive staff made the experience wonderful, and I was honestly taken back by how reasonable the prices were. Came here for brunch with my brother after purchasing a $39 bottomless brunch deal on Pulsd. We werw intriguied by the menu and the location was convenient. Ordered the Avocado Toast with a side of Rosemary Potatoes, my brother had the Hanger Steak and Eggs which also came with the potatoes and he ordered a side of bacon. We ordered sides and understood there was an upcharge for the chicken and the steak and eggs so we paid an addition $26 which included tax...not bad. Food was actually quite delicious and was fresh and flavorful. Mimosas and Bellini's were both tasty Why the 4 stars you ask?
