A good, but not a great burger. It's thick, so this isn't a "where's the beef" experience, and that's obviously good, especially because I paid $18.50 for the basic burger and an iced tea. However, the burger is lackluster because it's cooked on a griddle. In my opinion, meat is meant for an open flame -- whether you're grilling quickly or smoking/barbecuing for hours, whether it's a humble burger or an aged porterhouse steak. If you're opening up a joint dedicated to meat, including a burger joint, I think you're wasting your time if you don't cook the meat on an open flame. Of course, McDonald's is worth $140 billion, and they don't cook anything on a flame. But that's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it. Other things I noticed -- The bun is very nice, but it was too much bread for me and very doughy overall. The other accompaniments were good -- lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, onions, and pickles. Maybe they turned the name around because of copyright? I don't know. However, as a frequent visitor to the MN area, I wasn't disappointed. For those who are not in the know, Juicy Lucy is a Minneapolis favorite( matts bar if you are in the area) where the cheese is stuffed into the center of the patty. When you bite into the burger, the Juicy goodness just oozes out. Papas twist on the burger essentially is an omelette right on top of the cheese filled burger patty. If you are in the area or if you are curious about the burger, I'd definitely recommend a visit. The burgers are a tad pricey, coming in at $15ish with fries, add a beer(or two) and you'll end up with a $25ish check without the tax and tip. I've eaten Pappas Burger's a few times and I just don't understand the hype. Mind you I do enjoy the other Pappas restaurants very much. The burgers here are pricey and nothing special. You can get way better burgers around the area for cheaper such as Hopdoddy or my personal favorite Guru Burger in Sugar Land. Today I had the half rack of ribs with wings. The BBQ sauce was good. The ribs were okay. It seems the sauce was hiding how burnt the end of the rack was. The wings were okay as well and the ranch was borderline tasteless. The fries, especially today were not impressive. They tasted like they were soggy and reheated. They definitely weren't fresh. I had to smother them in ketchup for them to be acceptable. Okay, the food was pretty good. Still, I won't be back because: 1) WAY too expensive. My bill was $18 (before tip) for just a burger and fries. Not even a drink. I had tap water. This is one of our favorite places, because of the excellent service, friendly staff, and amazing food!!! We tried curbside today, because of the pandemic and it did not disappoint. The bone in wings and buffalo bites were delicious as always! This is not a wing restaurant, but I have to say that the wings here are huge and consistently delicious, they don't taste like a frozen wings that were fried and thrown in sauce. The buffalo bites are all white meat and are also a great size. The ranch and blue cheese is the by far the best I have had in Houston. The shakes are like heaven, especially the Oreo shake. I do not have a sweet tooth, but I have to taste a little of my families milk shake each time, because it is that good! Good thing the lunch being the extra shake in the mixing cup on the side each time. the burgers are by far the best in Houston and are cooked at the right temperature that you order them. I have never had bad service here and today calling in curbside was a new experience, but Scott was super friendly and patient. This restaurant really cares about making the customer have a wonderful dining experience experience and it shows! Everything we have tried it delicious! The salads are also huge and amazing! We stumbled on this place years ago when I got a Pappas gift card and tried it out. Since then it has been a regular for us, because it never disappoints and there is something for everyone. This is one of the places at which I have to eat at least once a month. It is far from my house and usually crowded. Don't let my 3-stars fool you, it is one of my favorite restaurants. The turkey burger is what I always get but they have some great salads I like as well. The burgers are perfectly spiced and juicy, the fries are amazing. If you want a new addiction, try the Butter Finger shake. It is really good. While I love the food enough to return several times, the service set up leaves a lot to be desired. Ordering at the counter, sitting down, then having your order verified, waiting for your order, and then still having to wait for the check is really annoying. The beauty of a normal order at the counter place is that you can scram right after you gobble down your burger. My personal opinion is that they do it this way so you will have to tip more and they won't have to pay their staff minimum wage. If that is the point, then they need to just make it a complete sit-down experience. I have also had bad service experiences there usually involving slightly large parties. The last time I was there my friends and I arrived at 7PM with 5 kids and 6 adults. We did not get our food until 45 minutes later and the kids, including my two year old, were wiped out by then and EXTREMELY grumpy. It was so frustrating to see everyone around us (including a similar table of 5 little girls and 7 parents) get served well before even though we asked that everything come out as it was ready. I think there needed to be a little bit more manager interference at that point. To top it all off it took us about 20 minutes to get the check which we did not separate, we put it on one card. And of course since we were a large party, they automatically added gratuity. Stinkers. The only saving grace for this place is the awesome food. So, if you have patience, go for it. read more

A spontaneous decision to leave the office for lunch led me to Pappas Burgers. This place has plenty of t.v.s with wooden floors, tables, walls, etc. Order at the counter, you're given a ticket, grab a drink, find a seat and the server will come to the table, repeat your order, bring your meal and the final bill. This method works out well for this busy burger joint. If you're not very hungry they will let you order the child's size burger which I thought was very cool. I ordered mine with all of the fixins, medium. The burger came out just shy of well-done. Plenty of veggies were packed on the burger and were fresh. The bun was ok. The french fries were the best on the plate, cut thin and cooked golden brown. They are a bit heavy handed with the salt but it didn't bother me. The server was really nice and didn't rush us even when there were people standing around looking for an empty table. I believe they use meat from their next door Pappas Steakhouse. But what truly surprised me on my more recent visit was a fab salad! The tuna wasn't just a few strips, but a nice large charbroiled tuna steak! Cooked perfectly to my requested medium rare, it was great with the asian dressing, crunchy wonton strips, mixed greens, carrots etc. You don't have to blow your diet coming here! It was worth the $20. cost due to the top quality meat. Two could easily share this, or take the rest home for dinner. Service here is fast and friendly, good for a work week lunch when dining with a mixed group of those wanting meaty burgers, and those watching what they eat. Tip, parking can be hard to find at Pappas Burger, but Pappas Steakhouse is closed for lunch, so park in their lot. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is cause they say that their beef patty is 8oz. (Half-pound) however I've been to other places that sell half-pound burgers and their beef patties actually look like they're half-pound but at this place the patty looks slightly smaller. Price: Each burger with the normal toppings (Lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion, mayo) cost about $14. Taste: I love simple burgers (Lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion, mayo) more than burgers with all those unique toppings. So for simple Burgers you can't beat Pappas Burger with regards to taste. They have unique burgers with guacamole or chili but I'm not a fan of burgers with unique toppings. Service: I've never had a problem with the service. People that work here are always very nice. Also sometimes the fries here have a little bit too much salt so make sure you take that into account. Oh! If you're really hungry don't forget to try the mozzarella bites or whatever they're called. They taste amazing! I've eaten at a lot of different Burger places such as Becks prime, Guru burger, Fudrucker, steakhouses, a bunch of mom and pop burger places. Burgers are huge and yummy. I don't like shoe string fries so I swap them for a house salad to try and counter the huge burger (it makes me feel less guilty). My husband and I have also shared a burger and got an appetizer plus side salads. I've been here before like 13 years ago. Glad to see it's only gotten better. The burgers are well made and assembled well. My only concern is the single leaf of butter? Lettuce on the bottom. I came here for lunch on a weekday. The entire experience is very confusing, and I can't decide if this is a full service restaurant or a fast-casual experience. When you walk in, you wait in line and order from a host who provides you with a number, but you don't pay her. Instead you get handed off to a waiter who proceeds to upsell you on additional items. I really don't like this mullet approach. In theory they have whole wheat buns for their burgers, but it's really just white bread with caramel food coloring. This is not slow-carb friendly at all. The patties are prepared well with ground beef that has enough fat to leave a generous dose of dripping anywhere you want. Absolutely delicious! The sides are artery-clogging but delicious as well. The desserts are...well you get my drift. Don't come here if you want live past 40, but you'll have a smile on your face during your heart attack.
