Virgin Miami Vice - It was really good, but it was blended a little thick, so it was hard to drink through the straw. I was also unaware it came topped with whipped cream. That's just a personal preference, and it's an easy fix to remove. Smoked Árbol Ribs - These were the star of the meal for me, which was surprising because when I think Mexican food, ribs aren't the first thing that come to mind. The árbol chili glaze sauce was excellent and really made the dish. Family Platter #2 (Grilled Quail, Beef Fajita, Grilled Chicken & Diablo Shrimp) We had some issues with the platter, but the manager addressed everything without us even having to ask. Because of the mix-up, we ended up getting lamb chops as well, which was a nice surprise. And for the record, this time I didn't request a manager or make a complaint! Pappasito's Cantina is a festive, tex-mex chain restaurant. There are none where we live, so we when we travel to the Atlanta area, we always make sure Pappasito's is on our list. The menu is huge, and everything is so flavorful. My husband and I shared the fajitas for two (the Wednesday special) and enjoyed every bite. The tortillas are made fresh and are so fluffy and delicious. The steak and chicken were cooked perfectly...not overdone or dry. The sides of veggies, rice and beans were perfect. Incredibly busy and we couldn't get in the night before, so on this Saturday in late February we made reservations for our second attempt. I've eaten here before and the crowded restaurant and music make for a party atmosphere and we heard several birthday songs during our meal. But unfortunately, the service and food isn't as good as it used to be. I ordered the Shrimp Brochette and it didn't have any jalapeno and the shrimp were smaller and the bacon flavorless and they appear to be cutting costs by going with cheaper ingredients. Also they've added big chucks of vegetables as filler to disguise the smaller portions. The charro beans were okay, but the rice on the side was disappointing. The complimentary tortilla chips were very good and fresh with a flavorful (although watery) salsa. Service was abysmal and we couldn't get drink refills, get our check, or get the payment processed. They charge a premium but the service and food don't represent the expense, and it's too easy to find a small family owned Mexican restaurant that is priced better, can serve better, and taste better. read more

This was my first time here. They served us chips and salsa which the chips were really good but the salsa was too spicy! We ordered the cheese dip and it was way over the top spicy! I ordered the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp on the side as well as the dressing. Salad looked great and big, but it was spicy! Who puts cayenne pepper on a Caesar salad? I know the food is supposed to be spicy but not so spicy you can't taste the food! Very disappointing especially when you are hungry. John was our server and he did an excellent job. I don't get the bad reviews. I don't even really like Tex Mex and I genuinely like this place. I always order the Pappasito's Grill and it never misses. The steak is cooked perfectly, super tender, and the bacon wrapped shrimp is outstanding. You can actually taste the grill. The Island Time drink is delicious and perfectly strong.The table side chips and salsa are also really good. Fresh, warm, and just enough heat. The parking lot is always packed, but I've never had an issue finding a spot, even if it's toward the back. Service has been incredible every time. Happy to find the one outpost of Pappasito's beyond the Republic of Texas. Packed with happy diners on an early Sunday evening, it had exactly the atmosphere, decor, vibe, you'd expect from a Pappasito's, or if you're not familiar, a place to give you a strong tex-mex vibe from the second you enter. Roving band of mariachi's. Where they might have been a touch weak in talent, they certainly made up with volume and enthusiasm. Salsa, queso, chips. The medium queso was plenty for two, you'll stuff your face with chips salsa and queso and then wonder how to handle the enormous dinner plate quickly placed in front of you. Number one lesson in Pappasito's, the dishes are massive. I ordered two cheese enchiladas with a crispy beef taco and the plate was only slightly smaller than my coffee table at home. Wife's tortilla soup was the same way; a bowl so big and full there was no possibility of finishing. The food is a bit short of tex-mex perfection. It's certainly as good and authentic as I'd ever expect to find outside of Texas, so we still left happy. Service was friendly and very attentive. They started apologizing for being slow about 5 minutes after we ordered dinner, so expect a pretty quick pace, they want to move the crowds through. read more

The flavors in all of the food here is very authentic-- everything is well seasoned and the portions are great. Living in Memphis, we do not have a restaurant like this, so we try to plan our trips through Atlanta so that we can eat at this yummy establishment. The steak fajitas with that yummy Mexican butter are to die for. We absolutely love them. The flavor of the steak is so tasty and the Mexican butter just puts it over the top. You want to just keep eating it even though you know you have already had enough. We got the large which says that it feeds 2-3 and it was plenty for the two of us with leftovers to take home. The service is always really fast and the restaurant is ALWAYS packed, so definitely make reservations ahead of time online to avoid that long wait. The restaurant is festive and pretty loud, but that is to be expected at a Mexican restaurant with a bar. The complimentary chips are super thin and salty, THE BEST! The salsa is served warm which is unique, but I really like it. The white queso is a little different than other casual Mexican restaurants as it is a little thicker and definitely has a kick from the jalapeños. We love this place! Man, I don't even know if I can remember everything that went wrong. Group of 9 here to celebrate my husband's birthday. Had booked reservations in advance. That was pointless. Got to our table eventually and looked forward to the evening with fam and friends. Waiter was seasoned but a little dry and empty. I hoped it wouldn't get worse. ....3hrs later...the food finally came(slight exaggeration). Ribs were tougher than leather. Restaurant was out of flour tortillas and we had to wait until someone came around with freshly made ones...offering people everywhere one or two. Refills were hard to come by. People who sat down way after us were eating way before us. Waiter was indifferent. Had to track down a knife to cut the cake and plates and to go boxes and bags. Basically we had to work a shift, constantly talking to mgr or supervisor. Supervisor on duty was cool and did all she could to try and make it right. Appreciated her. Husband kept Getting up to go get stuff our table was lacking. It was pretty bad. Come to find out the waiter was on his way on to other opportunities as it was his last week. Just our luck. The highlight was when my brother paid for his meal with a $100 bill and we sat and sat and sat for his change which wasn't coming. This place seems to be pretty popular. I've been a couple of times and, overall, I would say it is overpriced; I wouldn't wait around for a table as many people do. I've had the fajitas. The food is good but there's nothing really elevating it. It's meat, beans, and rice. The beans are as expected. Rice bland. Meat is appropriately seasoned. The salsa is warm, not spicy at all (I understand it's fire roasted, but still a little off-putting and they don't have an alternative). My biggest complaint is that they don't seem to have thought out their customer experience as it relates to clutter. They bring out chips/salsa, drinks, dishes, utensils, fajitas, beans, rice, lettuce/cheese, tortillas and they do little to remove empties. Tortillas come out in 3s in a bulky plastic dish and wrapped in cloth. When you request more, a new bulk comes out adding the the clutter. read more

As she place my order, Chef Sykoria visited my table and said the shrimp for my order was out but she could see what was available. We came here for Father's Day and were disappointed. We called about their Plato del Padre Father's Day Special (fajitas with steak, chicken, shrimp, and lobster) that they heavily advertised as we didn't want to make a trip from 40 minutes away and find that this special was out of stock. We were assured that they had it in stock and that it was readily available. After waiting about 20 minutes for our reservation to be ready, we were seated. We ordered a Wave (sangria and margarita swirl) to drink and the recipe had changed since our last visit a couple of years ago. It used to look like a beautiful swirly drink and now it's just a red sangria base with a scoop of frozen margarita added in. Presentation was awful and the sangria was about 80% of the drink. And melted the scoop of margarita about 5 minutes into drinking the beverage. Pretty disgusting. We then inquired about tableside guacamole which had been a signature dish which previously had a whole page of the menu devoted to it. The waitress gave us a puzzled look and said that as long as she had worked there, that menu item didn't exist. Uh, okay. Now their guacamole is premade and scooped into a bowl in the kitchen. Hard pass for $15. We decided to skip appetizers altogether and went straight to the entrees. My family decided we'd all share the large order of Plato del Padre. 15 minutes later, the waitress comes back and says they're out of the lobster and we'd need to order something else. It was 4:00 on Sunday, so they didn't plan for this day well at all. We were so disappointed, especially after being assured by the person answering the phone that they had plenty of it in stock. We opted for steak fajitas instead. They were good, thankfully, but for $70 they should have been lights out amazing. We then advised the waitress that we were celebrating a birthday. She brought a free dessert to the table but we didn't get the sombrero or the happy birthday singing that we saw at several other tables during our visit. To start we had called and made reservations for 8pm. We arrived about 20 minutes early. We alerted them that we were there and they confirmed our reservations for 8. The young man then explained that there would be a 10-15 wait. We were ok with that. But 30 minutes later we were still waiting. I approached the young man that greeted us when we arrived. I asked what the issue was and as I was doing so 3 more people approached and started asking the same question. They had been waiting as long or longer than we had! The greeter went and got the "manager" that had an attitude right off the bat. He stated that there was nothing he could do. That we would just have to be patient! I explained this was not the correct answers he tried to talk over me at that point he looked at smiled and canceled my reservation. Completely unacceptable!
