Great pizza and sandwiches. I LOVE The White pizza with added spinach. The chocolate chip cookies are the best I've ever had (but I didn't get any today because I'm trying to watch my figure!)! HAILEY is an outstanding waitress. She's very personable and has a great sense of humor. She was very busy while we were there but she still took the time to make sure everyone was taken care of. Pizza was Mediocre at best... the waitress greeted us promptly and I took our simple pizza order, then she disappeared pretty much. It would appear she dropped the ball because another waitress brought out our pizza but when she did it was warm at best telling me that it was left up in the counter for a while sitting there getting cold. They were skimpy on the sauce (which was kind of bland anyways) skimped on the ingredients and really skimped on the cheese (you get more ingredients from Pizza Hut and the others really). The crust reminded me of a frozen one I buy at the grocery store by my house. Nobody came by to check on us and see how we like the pizza or if we need to drink refills, nothing. When we were done still no sign our server we had to walk around and ask for a to go box and the check. When we left we saw her for the first time since taking our order as we saw her walking out the door (this is tonight Friday night at about 445 I am referring to). If I had to guess she made her tips goal early and when it came to her last table of the day she couldn't care less, which sucks for your customers that expect the resemblance of good service. read more

Went there for the first time yesterday. We ordered a large thin crust and their house salad. The salad was good but didn't have hardly any dressing on it. We both took a bite of the pizza and immediately had the same thought: This tastes exactly like a frozen Totino's pizza. Not even kidding. We were in Springfield on a trip from Kansas City and wanted some local fare. We decided on pizza and asked some of the locals where a good pizzeria was located. Since we were headed out of town they told us to head towards the city center. We passed by Bruno's and Pappo's. We looked at the reviews and decided on Pappo's. We took some friends that actually live in Springfield with us. They had never heard of Pappo's. We ordered the bread sticks and four different 8" pizzas: cheese, meatball, deluxe and The big island Hawaiian. Lets just say we all ate every piece, all the bread sticks and cleaned out the ramikin of sauce that came with our bread sticks. I love this little place. They had live music and great pizza. I love that they have different sizes for different needs Like if it was just yourself you can get a single dish or if you have a pi party you can get a lot more. First time I ordered a pizza from here. I called in an order for a gluten free crust. They only come in 12" (so I was told), and the really nice surprise... no extra charge for the gluten free. We ordered the Spinach Ricotta Specialty pizza. My husband picked it up, and (after taxes) we paid almost $18. We opened the box and saw a tiny delicious looking pizza. It was so small in the box we pulled out the measuring tape... just under 10". What a disappointment. If it had been the full 12" we would have given 5 stars. It was delicious, but oh so small. Pizza was decent but no where near the best in town. however it was extremely overpriced, especially the pizza by the slice at night. Staff was extremely rude and slow. One staff member actually yelled at me when I questioned him on something, they were extremely busy but he shouldn't take it out on a customer because he can't handle it. Best pizza ever! First place we went when we moved to Springfield, and have been multiple times since! Atmosphere is amazing and the owner/staff is friendly! They are quick and even though they are always a full house, it is an enjoyable environment where you won't wait long to get your food. Great downtown hangout. read more

Waitress and cook eating and drinking in the kitchen. Both texting every chance they could. Waitress talking with cook in kitchen while scratching her head and shaking her hair. Not once did anyone wash their hands. People coming in picking up their checks helping themselves to soda machine no one washing hands there either. I'm sad that i didn't enjoy this place more. It has so much potential and so many people reccomended it. I dropped in for a lunch with my partner while our daughter had ice cream with her grandmother. The first thing i noticed was the prices! I was in the mood for Italian, so when i saw the prices for the portions, i told my partner I kind of wanted to leave because i could get food I KNOW is good, and a whole lot more of it, from almost any other Italian place nearby. He insisted that we try it, we live downtown and one of our goals is to try every place there. I felt uneasy and eventually settled on going in. (The prices/menu are posted outside.) I went in and a sign said to wait until seated. There were workers walking around hurriedly to serve all two tables with two people each. A girl walked by and casually, without eye contact, said, "Pick a seat". We sat down and she came around a little bit later to take our drink order, at which point i realized she hadn't told us what products she had and the menu didnt say anything at all about drinks. I asked such questions and found it didn't matter becuase there was no way i was paying for almost $3 a soda, each, paired with the outrageous pizza prices! We said we needed a second for food orders and she obliged. It took me quit a bit to decide, and we settled on a 12" pizza with cheese, pepperoni, banana peppers, and mushrooms. It took about 30 minutes to get to us and when it did, there was chocolate sauce on the pan underneath my pizza and on the crust. I would've complained, or asked about a different pizza, except it'd already been a hassle to flag down our waitress for refills, questions, anything, really. We were one of three couples there, and i could see 2-3 workers at any given time; yet i found it humiliating and difficult to politely get any of their attention. We ate the whole pizza and it WAS good! I didn't have any complaints about the pizza parts untainted with chocolate sauce. (Still not sure it was chocolate, just dark and very sweet.) I still would never pay so much or deal with the service for the pizza, though. I would like to say that anytime we did manage to get someone's attention they were nice enough but very short. I used the restroom just before leaving and found myself in, yet, another oddly frustrating situation. The bathroom had no door knob on the inside and was stuck. I was struggling to open the door by grabbing the coat hook but seeing as how I'm 5'1", the leverage wasn't quite enough and i had to put my hand in the splintery hole where a knob should've been and pull. Eventually, i got out and a worker was standing outside the door and said unapologetically, "Yeah, that door is weird sometimes.". It's not bad, and with the reviews I've read, I'm sure it was an "off" day, but as a person who both REALLY hates wasting money on bad experiences and finds it too rude to simply walk out, I personally won't risk it again. read more

Pappos pizza... The idea of having a pizza joint next to all the bars for the drunks of Springfield to stumble into until 2am is genius. We literally stumbled upon Pappos coming home from the bars while visiting Springfield on my sisters 21st. They really know how to do it right. Only offer 2 types of pizza to please the drunken, poor, college kids. For one slice I think it was around $3. It was worth every penny! It came right out nice and hot and was absolutely delicious. They serve it to you in a box so you can keep it or continue on your way. I had the pepperoni which was delicious. The cheese was my favorite consistency (like that Ninja Turtle cheese--ya'll know that's my favorite). The sausage was a bit too spicy for my liking but who cares when your brain cells aren't functioning at their highest. The service was lacking a bit. We stood there for at least 10 minutes before one of the socializing workers wanted to help. Pappos is open during the day late into the night and seems like the place to go after bars close. Head in for a good lunch or a midnight snack! There is a great spot at the bar to sit or they also offer tables like your typical pizza shop (you no longer see anymore). read more

Oh, pappo's pizza. Went here last night for a quick spur of the moment dinner as I was walking by...and very very disappointing. Got greeted, got sat down took a few minutes to order a beer. Ordered traditional mother's winter grind due to lack of options. The last time I was here, I seem to remember them having lots and lots of options...a beer cooler full of bottles... and this time around, there was maybe 15 options, so that's a downfall. We finally settled on the breakfast pizza, and then waited for someone to come take her order. And waited. And wait it some more period finally I went up to the counter and ask the two people staying there if they would be still troubled is to take my pizza order. Girl turns around shocked that I was standing there, asked me what I wanted and what kind of crust I want, and said they would have it right out. I went back to my table little irritated, but I was hungry so I figured I would wait. She comes over to the table a few minutes later apologizing, saying something about she was new, and manager was new, and somebody called in sick and blah blah blah. That's fine. Either way, you've got five occupied tables in the entire restaurant and I was still forgotten about. Pizza came, it was fine. It's pizza. One weird thing that Pappo's does is lay this heavy Italian basil seasoning sprinkly stuff all over the middle of your pizza... so if you get the middle piece, its going to be super heavy with Italian spices ( even if you order something with eggs and bacon on it) so that's a little off-putting. Another downfall to pappo's was the fact that their bathroom was out of toilet paper the entire evening. I was there for 2 hours, and there was zero toilet paper. That's a very basic maintenance item, and there was none even stocked in the cabinets... so boo to you pappo's. read more

I really want to like this place, because I think their food is fantastic, but the service just holds me back every time. They have posted hours but close whenever they please (if you're going to close on a sliding scale at least have the decency to say so on your facebook so people don't waste their time coming during what should be open hours only to be turned away). The servers, while very good looking, make you feel like you're being rushed out the door while they're putting up chairs, cleaning, and going outside for smoke breaks. And despite being the only table ordering food, it took at least half an hour just for an appetizer! Step up the service, the general attitude of everyone involved, and maybe, I don't know, have some consistent hours? Then we'll see how I feel. Because if I'm paying the amount I am for drinks, pizza, and an appetizer you should at least pretend like I'm not inconveniencing your life by giving you my money. read more

The food was delicious, but it took 30 minutes to arrive. I was with a party of 10 that had 4 children, and it was apparent that the staff was not thrilled to serve us. I stopped in here for lunch while I was working in Springfield. When we entered there were only a couple of people in the building. I partook in the lunch special; pizza (apple bourbon pulled pork) and salad (Italian). The pizza took a really long time considering the number of people in the establishment. In total our dining experience for lunch exceeded 1 1/2 hours. The staff forgot our salads, and then when they came they were swimming in dressing. All-in-all a mediocre experience, but I'd be willing to give it another try I am back in town. read more

My mother and I walked in for lunch at 1 on a Thursday and were promptly seated. We then were ignored for over 10 minutes- the manager and the waitress who seated us did not even make eye contact with us. Went to the new one on Battlefield. There we're only 6 tables with customers. It took a good 5 minutes for our server to offer drinks...we almost left. We went ahead and ordered 1 pizza. It then took almost 30 minutes to get our pizza. All the while looking out the window at Pie Five where we intended to go until we saw Pappos open. The cooks were very slow for only having 6 tables. Big let down. We have had pizza and beer here several times in the past few months. We thought we found a great local spot. We just left there. We ordered the Italian tomato and cheese pizza thin crust. Half of the edges of the slices were burnt. We ate some of the other side and showed our server the problem. She told us they would discount our tab. The discount was $1.65. The manager didn't come to the table. I had to ask for "Frank" the manager and I gave him my spiel when encountering such restaurants. I paid the full tab with 15% tip. They don't seem to care about return customers or the reputation of the restaurant. read more

Some of the best pizza in SF, especially since it is downtown. Hand tossed crust has lots of flavor and isn't just a bland circle for the toppings to sit. Lots of cheese and choice of red or white pizza sauce depending on the type of pizza. Both are excellent. Prices are on par with most pizza joints, which is unusual for downtown food. Cheap-ish beer and many to choose from. Service is only slow when they are very busy but again, its far better service than most places downtown i.e. Mud House/Lounge, St. Michaels, ect... Honestly the best pizza that I have ever had. Everything about it was wonderful. You have to sample the brown butter chocolate chip cookies. Served warm and soft with just the right amount of crust. Finally a quality pizza in Springfield! It's a pretty good sign when you read the menu forever, and then decide you'll just have to come back because you can't possibly order everything you think you want in one visit. My husband and I are 'foodies' and try not to be overly critical for casual dining. We had the 'St.Louis' style crust, and it was better than 'Imo's' (sorry for the reference!) but that's our standard. The hand-tossed that we saw come out of the kitchen was beautiful, a true work of art, we just try not to indulge in crust when we can avoid it. The beer selection is very good, too bad they don't have draught, maybe that will follow. The wine list is more than adequate for pizza, and they pour a generous portion in a quality glass! My wife and I were downtown after work on a Friday and stumbled upon Pappo's. We were hungry and thought, "why not"? We entered and although it was busy we were immediately greeted and seated. The atmosphere is relaxing and just right for us. The beer selection was great and we started off with a limited release Lagunitas. For us, that sealed the deal. We each ordered a small pizza. We enjoyed pleasant conversation and then our pizzas arrived. The pizza was delicious and we will be back. The team of employees were enjoying themselves AND working hard. I really like this place. The sauce on the pizza is pretty good and they have this salad with pecans that I just crave. I do think that they are expensive but I also know that they are in a high-rent building so it makes a bit of sense. There are other good pizza places in town but this one is definitely worth checking out. read more
