Sunday AM, happy as a lark on Hwy 74 heading to the Paradise Valley Cafe on our Harley's, hungry for a good breakfast! We pulled up only to be told they had closed until lunch time due to a staffing shortage. Within seconds the owner, Neal (stellar gentleman), invited us inside and said they would take care of us. Between shared conversation about the sign of these times, laughter, and gratitude for them opening up for us, we proceeded to have a great meal (all of our sandwiches/fries/slaw were excellent) and a brilliant time with the staff who were working. By the time we left, the place was packed as they had opened for lunch! The service, the staff, the food - all excellent! I went with a group of friends from work and it was a nice way to end the day. They have a nice sized menu with a great beer selection, our food came out hot and was fresh and flavorful. It's a little tiny diner literally in the middle of nowhere, but it has great food, friendly servers, and wonderful mountain surroundings. read more

Dont bother stopping. If I could give zero stars I would. I saw a number of reviews about this place talking about them not being open during their published operating hours. I should have heeded the warnings. I checked the website, looked on their Facebook page, no indicators that today would be different than the advertised hours. Until I walked in at 3:30 on Friday afternoon and saw the chairs stacked on the tables and someone sweeping, they made some feeble attempt to apologize and tell me that when it is slow they close early. Well...... Keep closing early and you will always be slow. Good luck with that business plan. If you are in this area and are hungry, just keep driving right up to Idyllwild. Great diner food! My husband and I just finished a weekend backpacking in the San Jacinto mountains, and stopped by for brunch. We sat outside, and it was a little windy but still nice and sunny. They had an older gentleman play a keyboard and sing covers. It was really fun I ordered biscuit and gravy, with a sausage plate that came with 3 eggs and hash browns. Coffee was a bit watery My husband ordered a breakfast burrito with "breakfast beer" which is just a nice way for drinkers to order beer for breakfast without sounding like an alcoholic lol Food was good, definitely satisfied our desire for diner food after a fun weekend in the mountains. And the Prices were higher. $40 bucks for a sandwich and drink is too much, certainly for the poor quality. I still recommend you go elsewhere. This is always a good halfway point for hikers, bikers, or any travelers. We stopped for lunch here today, while taking a Harley ride. All the staff are friendly, we ordered what Cindy suggested, and was glad we took her advice. It was a yummy Sterling and Jose Burger, there could have been more jalapeno's on the Jose, I like them spicy. I love that it has outside seating and that it is pet-friendly. We always stop here for drinks or a meal, when we pass by. They have occasional music. We will be back on our next ride. read more

It's an all American style eatery in the middle of amazing hikes and scenary. It is quite popular because it is the only restaurant within 15 mile radius of Lake Hemet, PCT etc. Since the weather up there is getting pretty chilly I had their split pea soup and buffalo burger. The split pea soup was slightly too spicy for my preference but it was good. The burger likewise was good but the food did arrive a bit cold. They were also out of clam chowder. This restaurant does have a fairly large patio for outdoor dining and the waiters are very attentive. read more

A good restaurant in what seems to be nowhere, other than it's a busy intersection. We were served quickly and well. No frills, just a solid place for our lunch. The burgers are surprisingly good, much better than I expected. The coleslaw is vinegar based and I think had some apple In it. Ambiance is very biker friendly, and being a biker it works for me. I don't have anything negative to say about this place, and will adjust my ride scheduling to accommodate stopping here for a burger. read more

This place is awesome to hikers, their menu has literally everything, everything we ate and drank was awesome, and our waitress was one of the best, friendliest, on it, ones that we've ever had anywhere. As with other reviewers, we have been passing this place for years while motoring our to Palm Desert. Finally decided to pull over for lunch and very happy we did. Restaurant takes you back about 50 years, all in a good way. Place is clean, with a welcoming decor and ambience. Staff is very friendly, with Phoenix was singing and playing the electric piano, and the food was top notch. I had a chili size - first time in over 35 years I think - and it might have been best I've ever had. The owner Neel came over to our table to check on us, and we had a nice chat with him about the history of the restaurant and his loyal staff. He's a real person making a difference to travelers. Already looking forward to our next visit to Paradise Valley Cafe - so many other menu items that I'd like to try, then finishing with the apple pie! read more

Visiting a friend in La Quinta, CA and she drove my up in the mountains to this place. I thought it was a long way to go for lunch but she said it was worth it. She was right! Had to stop in on my way from Palm Desert to Temecula after hearing great things about the restaurant from friends. Glad I did. Cute little spot along the side of the road. Easy to find. Decorated with a country theme that fits the area perfectly. Ordered the Anza omelette on the recommendation of my very sweet server, Miriam, who did an amazing job seeing that my visit was perfect. She took some time to answer questions about the area which was also super nice of her. Don't look now though - I drank a Blueberry infused beer and it was really good. It was early and I was driving but.....had to do it. Thanks Miriam for a great breakfast and a nice stop on my drive.
