What you'd expect. A standard American-Thai restaurant experience. We began with an order of gyoza, which are pretty standard fare. The entree portions are large and quite filling. Each entree we ordered came with ample amounts of shrimp. The yellow curry was thick and included many onions. We ordered the drunken noodle at the spiciest level, but when it arrived it was mild spice at the most. As for the desserts -- we were pleasantly surprised by the coconut ice cream, which was high quality. The mango with sticky rice was overpriced for the size. Located in a strip mall along Connecticut Ave, the restaurant's atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired. That being said, it's mostly empty, which is convenient for a nice private dinner experience. Our server was attentive and regularly refilled our drinks. But it wasn't clear that she understood us very well when we ordered, and we had to say each order a few times before she wrote it down. Paragon has gone above and beyond. The best Thai restaurant and the best service in DC area!! I made a last minute reservation for our anniversary at Paragon, no problem at all. Som Tum with shrimps and Gyoza were our two appetizers. We did order the special Kapow Shrimp Gai Sup(shrimp with ground chicken) served with rice which was pretty good. I will order this dish again definitely. And of course soft shell crab with Chilli basil sauce. Lastly dessert was Mango sticky rice with a special surprise heart shape presentation. read more

I ate in the restaurant and it was quite disappointing and expensive. $8 bowl of tom yum was small bowl, lukewarm, and mediocre at best. Spring rolls wraps were too thick and also mediocre. The eggplant with tofu was delicious, so not giving just one star. Very basic service and I had to listen to the kitchen and prep staff shouting at each other while the other staff were clanking around putting away glasses and silverware. I found it disruptive. All this for a $40 tab. I won't be back - there are certainly many other options in this city. read more

First and foremost, I want to point out that they have a picture menu in a binder at the front of their restaurant with pictures of all of their dishes. This makes the food decisions so much easier, takes the surprise out of what you order. Love this idea, just wish it was better thought out in so far as those pictures should have been in every menu, not just one at the front of the restaurant. On to the food! After going through the binder I found a delicious looking spicy fried chicken rice full of garlic veggies and all the good stuff. And maaaann it was great! The veggies were crunchy but cooked, and the chicken was fresh and delicious, didn't have a gamey texture like those cheap Thai restaurants. I hear their ice creams are great too read more

Food was great. Service was horrible. My husband and I went there last Sunday in the evening for a dinner. It was our first time there. I'm Thai and have heard of the restaurant from a friend and always wanted to try them out. When we arrived, the restaurant was not too busy. There were only 3-4 tables of 2-4 people and a few people at the bar. We stood at the door waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes before anyone took notice and seated us. We ordered Nua Ka Ting, pineapple fried rice, and Chicken Mango. It took about 20 minutes or more before the first two dishes arrived. Quite slow, considering the amount of guests dining in the restaurant and picking up food. Nua Ka Ting was supposed to have crispy basil leaves as a garnish but it looked like a plain stir-fried beef dish. We called the server back and asked if it's supposed to look like that. She said they ran out of the crispy basil (no apology, just 'oh, we ran out of that.'). It was a bit disappointed since I really like crispy basil, and if she had let us know the missing ingredient before they started cooking, I would have not ordered it. Nua Ka Ting tasted good though. I really like the sauce. Pineapple fried rice was ok, tasted good, but a bit too moist for fried rice. We finished the first dish and were wondering where the Chicken Mango was. I called the server and asked about it. She said we didn't order it, because she didn't hear it (again, no apology or offering to put that on the ticket and let the kitchen crew know). We were like, ok, whatever, we could do without. A moment went by. We were about done with the food. She came by and rubbed it in again that I really didn't order the third dish because she didn't hear me say it. (I asked my husband if I really didn't say it and he said I did.) Still no apology. Throughout the meal, nobody came by to check on us if the food was ok or if we needed anything. Water was never refilled even though she walked by multiple times and the glass was half empty. Ordered here after coming home from a trip with an empty fridge and it was everything I wanted. Ordered the drunken noodles with beef (not spicy) and an order of spring rolls and was pleasantly surprised. I will order them "slightly spicy" next time. I worried that the noodles would be greasy and bland... I'm sure everyone has experienced this when ordering take out! Luckily Paragon lived up to the good reviews a few friends had given it. Some of the best Thai I've had in DC! I order takeout at least once a week from here for dinner. It's turned to be absolute comfort food because it's always consistent and tasty. I like the veggie spring rolls and steamed dumplings to start. The sauces are bombbbb. I could put their dumpling sauce on my cereal and be happy. It's good stuff. The panang curry is super delicious and if I'm feeling extra, I'll probably get a pad Thai as well because again.... delicious. Stays good as leftovers for lunch too! I've had mostly their veggie options, so that's what I can speak mostly on, but I'm guessing if they can make veggies taste this dope; everything else has gotta be great too! read more

This is an awesome Thai restaurant. The service is mostly friendly and very efficient. We've eaten in, ordered online, and also ordered pick-up. Each have been incredible and we continue to go back week after week. As a lover of spicy foods, they allow you to alter your amount of spice for each entree, despite what the menu says. I even ask for "Thai Spicy" to get that extra kick that's not on the menu. It's amazing! In addition, be sure to ask for the spice tray which has little trays of a chili paste, jalapeños, and cayenne pepper for additional seasoning. When we are in the mood for a drink, we always get the "Singha" Thai beer on draft. It's pretty good and they always have it. However, they have an extensive cocktail menu, but often times don't have the ingredients to make the special cocktails they have listed. They can make a traditional one, just not the specialty ones on the menu. The parking is easy as well. The lot in front allows you 60 minute parking (make sure you get your pass tagged in the restaurant). If you go past that time, it's only $2 for an extra 30 minutes. At first, I wondered how Paragon managed to avoid the current trend of naming their restaurant using a pun off the word "Thai". You know: Thai Tanic, ThaiPhoon, Hit me Baby one More Thai. (Okay, that last one doesn't exist,...but it should.) But then their website announces that they are part of the Thai Tanium restaurant group in Gaithersburg. I should have known. Undaunted, I went there for the first time last weekend since they took over from Sala Thai about a year and a half ago. I'm not sure why I waited so long, but I really liked my meal here. The inside has been redone, the interior is decorated with a bit more style. The service was great (and FAST) all night with one exception. I ordered extra rice for my dish and our server forgot. But I waved her down pretty easily, and she brought it right over, apologizing profusely along the way. I ordered Chicken sautéed with eggplant, chili black bean sauce, and basil leaves. The menu listing was adorned with two peppers, meaning it was among the spiciest served at this restaurant! I prepared by ordering a Thai Iced tea to go along with my water. Turned out it wasn't very spicy, but I didn't ask them to really turn up the heat or anything. However, it was quite good, spicy enough for me, and seemed freshly cooked with yummy ingredients. My dining partner got the Pad Thai, which was also a pleasant surprise. It looked different than typical Pad Thai, (thinner noodles and cooked in a reddish sauce) but still tasted like the delicious, reliable standard you expect. We both started with the Garden Roll, a special, which was good with a neato presentation. It is hard to judge Thai restaurants. Everyone likes them, but then some people have their preferences, and will use that to run down the others. I can't say Paragon is better than Thai X-ing, ThaiPhoon or even Siam House across the street. But it is a very convenient, moderately priced Thai restaurant, that is a good option when in the mood for a thai-riffic meal. See, even I can't avoid the puns. read more

DINE IN unless you REALLY have to order take out - its fast, fresh and so much more delicious. You will be eating spicy noodles or soup made at lightning speeds if you visit the restaurant. Sometimes I find myself lazy and solo so I do order delivery, but I refuse to use third party websites. Dining in is a great experience, servers are attentive and food comes out quick and hot. Delivery is faster if you order directly through them but there is no guarantee your food will come hot. I have tried third party websites but it always takes longer no matter what - I've given up on them. Restaurant Experience: The location is great if you are driving because you can park in the lot for the strip mall free because Paragon Thai validates. I've never had a problem finding parking and it is a major convenience factor. Also, if you take the metro or the bus to Cleveland Park you are only steps away from thai food goodness. The restaurant itself has a TV that sometimes has on a sports game or my personal favorite "Too Cute." (who doesn't like watching adorable baby animals while you wait for your food) It is clean and the tables aren't too close together. You can see the window where the food comes out from the kitchen, the women always seem to be cooking furiously. Someone always greets you within seconds of entering and seats you. The staff is always friendly and know when to approach you and when to leave you alone. Now for the good stuff - the food! My favorite appetizer is the Curry Puffs. They are fried potato and curry type fritters that come with a sweet spicy dipping sauce - super good. The Tom Kha soup is just right. I love the Yellow Curry, it is just what I want, potatoes, onions, coconut milk and chicken. My favorite dishes are the Noodles - but my #1 is the Drunken Noodles. The wide noodles melt in your mouth and are covered in the best sauce. I also like the Pad See Eaw. I recently tried the Mai Pha with beef, its cellophane noodles, egg, onions, celery, carrots, mushrooms and spring onions. I didn't like how little the noodles were and there was a lack of sauce - so I ordered a Drunken Noodle all was right in the world. So dine in, eat curry puffs and try any noodle dishes with the wide rice noodles! read more

Pargaon is defined as perfection or a model of excellence. (I had to look it up). In my mind, only supermodels should be held to that kind of standard. So if Heidi Klum/Adriana Lima: Paragon, then Paragon Thai: Catalog model. Not that catalog is a bad thing. Catalog models are fairly attractive, dependable, and have a girl next door quality about them. Similarly, Paragon's décor is pleasing to the eye, the food while not spectacular is better than average, and is a reliable neighborhood restaurant. The pad thai, the gold standard, is not cloyingly sweet and the drunken noodles are as spicy as advertised. The noodles are sometimes overcooked but the portions are generous. Catalog is really only a bad thing if you are on America's Next Top Model or are looking for something a bit more adventurous. The service seems to vary in each review but I've never had an unpleasant experience. The servers are friendly, efficient, and the food comes out very quickly. I wouldn't call Paragon a destination restaurant but it's a nice option if you are in the area. read more

I have gotten delivery from here a few times. The delivery is not quick, but honestly, not a big deal. Everything I have gotten is really tasty. Just today, we had some fried gyoza, which was crispy and flavorful. We also had some Tom Yum with chicken which was, again, very flavorful and delicious. We also got one drunken noodles and a pad thai, both with chicken. I really like pad thai, and got it thai spicy, and it was really good. I was devastated to find that my favorite Sala Thai had become something new, but I've been mostly pleased to find that as far as food goes, it's just about the same as ever. I'm knocking off a star for Paragon upping its delivery minimum from Sala Thai's $15 to a new whopping $18. Seriously, that's absurd. You have to order like three things to hit this price! My favorite dish here is the chicken kaprow, which is spicy and sweet at the same time. Spicy fried rice with chicken was another Sala Thai favorite, but it's not as good at Paragon. They've also added tomatoes to the mix, which I hate, but otherwise, it's fine. The rice is all clumped together, and it's not as spicy as I'd like for it to be, but it's OK. The mango sticky rice really disappoints, though -- it's got so much coconut milk on top that it somewhat resembles an, um, unsavory bodily fluid. It wasn't sticky so much as it was straight soggy. Needless to say, I was a little grossed out & will probably not get it again. The Paragon Thai staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself is really pretty and classy. Don't be fooled by the somewhat-gaudy sign -- the inside of Paragon Thai is definitely date-worthy. read more

I don't quite get the awful reviews for Paragaon. It may not be the best I've ever had, but it's probably better than 80 of the Thai restaurants I've been to. If possible, it would be a 4.5. We stumbled across Paragon while in the area, and no dish has been a disappointment. If I ask for a dish to be made spicy, it actually is, and I was given my own little tray with additional spicy flavorings to adjust it to my exact needs. I love individualized condiments! The price for entrees with vegetables or tofu is $10, and goes up to $14 depending on what kind of meat is desired, which seems pretty fair and relatively inexpensive. Am I missing something? A friend of mine had just come up from out of town and we decided to try this Thai place by my new apartment. The atmosphere in there was reallly nice, and the waitstaff is extremely friendly and helpful and attentive. The thai iced tea was definitely really good and sweet. I ordered the Drunken Noodles and it came in a nice sauce and lots of chicken and vegetables. AMAZING! My friend ordered Pad See Eaw and that was equally good..we both finished our food immediately. Paragon is defined as a model of excellence or a peerless example. Years of consistency is a model for me and i've been coming here off and on for several years now. For 'go to' Thai food that does not disappoint me. I really like this place in Cleveland Park. Food: Starters: Kanom Jeeb and Yum Woon Sen. This is what is really great here...Maybe some of the best Kanom Jeeb. It is plump, it is meaty, it is perfectly moist and steamed fresh. These are handmade in the kitchen, not some store bought variety. Absolutely killer here. I'm going to get into trouble here, but the Yum woon sen is Yummy! Ok, I said it, I typed it and I really enjoyed it. Soup: Tohm Yum and Tohm Kha. I truly believe that you can judge a Thai restaurant on these two soups alone. Spicy, great usage of galangal, creamy and beautiful lemongrass. Consistently good. Main: Yes, got the Pad Thai...the seminal dish of Thai restaurants, the national dish...and after a night of getting great standards...it seemed to me to see if this was still good. Verdict: Yeah, it was still good. Service: Charming, nice, and personable. Pricing: Moderate to good cheap eats. Overall: Technically, are there better Thai restaurants? Yes. Is the atmosphere, the decor, maybe even the food better at other places? Possibly, maybe. But are they consistent? No, not always. That there is the point my friends...they're consistent. Consistently good. This has become the go-to spot for my monthly(ish) dinners with a few girlfriends. It's reasonably priced and the food is excellent. I always order the same thing which is consistently good. My friends are a bit more adventurous and get something new nearly every time - and so far no one has been disappointed. The place isn't huge, so it can crowded fast, but the service has always been good and the staff are friendly. I typically get springs rolls followed by Pad See Eew, It's a very generous portion and quite tasty. I've also gotten it as take out and it's equally tasty at home as it is in the cute restaurant. 3 stars is about right for this place. Decent ambiance, a good spot for a date or an outing with friends, and I've had both here. A lot of their food is pretty ordinary, and it varies in its authenticity. However, they have the most amazing pineapple boat thingy that I have ever tasted. It is stuffed with rice and meant and yummy veggie goodness. I can't get enough. They're also in good proximity to my house, a movie theater, and the Cleveland Park metro. They're also more reasonably priced than a lot of the other sit-down restaurants in the area. If you're around give them and their pineapple boat a try- you won't regret it. My favorite place to get panang curry closed a while back but every other place I've tried since then has been too soupy or bland. Paragon Thai nailed the panang curry with flavor and consistency! I would order more than the small accompanying rice next time, so I could stretch it further. I also got the pad thai with chicken, it was a solid B+, no complaints. This place is HORRIBLE. I have been a regular for Thai in Cleveland Park for five years. Paragon is a big step down from Sala Thai, who owned the joint up until this past fall. Since then, I've been overcharged, brought burnt food, and refused receipts. The place is downright sketchy; I tried to work with the manager to get a receipt after I had been overcharged and work through the problem, and I was blown off. I gave them multiple chances to right themselves and have completely given up. I'm furious at myself for not crossing the street to Siam House. The people, prices and quality of food are fanatic and their delivery service is completely reliable. read more

Allow me to add my thoughts to a growing consensus that this is a solid Thai choice. I've had several of their apps and main plates and have yet to be disappointed. They do the mainstays well: chicken satay, spring rolls, thai curries and fried rice and noodle dishes were all up to my expectations. I've never done take out or delivery, and I'm reading that there is some concern about portion-price values. That wasn't true in my experience: I've received decent portions every time I've been here. I would not recommend taking your in-laws or an important client here, however. The decor is what you'd expect from a delivery and take-out joint - maybe even a bit nicer than that - but it isn't exactly a cozy sit-down place to the extent of other options in the area. TVs, while muted, glare in the room and might avert people's eyes away from their plates. This place is an excellent choice if you're alone, with friends or with a significant other and you want a pleasant place to grab a solid dinner. It's casual, it's tasty, it's priced appropriately given the city's averages, and it's a pleasant experience if you don't go in expecting to hear a violin section accompanied by a baby grand piano playing in the corner. read more
