This place has GREAT food. It's hard to find a great Indian place that checks all the boxes but this place really impressed me. Parathawala offers a truly fine Indian dining experience with an authentic menu, delicious food, and an excellent service to top it off. This is only exemplified even more given the lack of Indian dining alternatives in the forest hills area. In addition to the already staple cuisine options, the menu offers dishes (gol gappa, dahi bhalla, butter chicken) that are rare to find at other Indian restaurants in NYC. These are what I ordered as well and was very impressed with the quality of the dishes. I grew up in India and, trust me, the food tastes exactly as you would expect from a restaurant in India. I can't recommend these dishes enough. Gol gappa and Dahi bhalla are staple street food in India and trying it here again was very nostalgic. The portion size was great and combined with the quality, the food was just amazing. The service was top notch as well. The staff was extremely attentive. Multiple staff members checked in with me about my experience. I didn't have to wait long to get my appetizers/entrees. I also never had to call the staff over to refill my cup of water as they always took care of it preemptively. I am glad this restaurant is an option for Indian cuisine in this neighborhood. Getting Indian food is like Russian roulette for me because I can't eat too much spicy food. My wife likes it and can take it, so I go in solidarity. This place is not it, if you can't take the heat. For the first time in our multiple visits, we both left disappointed. My wife said her food was not good. She had the butter chicken. I had the chicken paratha roll, the only mild thing on the menu. Our waitress came and I told her no spicy, she said 'eggs okay?' 'and what about avocado?'. I'm already nervous so I assume it came with it. When I got the bill there was an up charge of almost 4 dollars. 2.55 for couple of pieces of avocado and the eggs were also extra. It's partially my fault for not reading the menu carefully but usually waitresses announce when things are extra. It sounded more like she was checking my dietary restriction. Yes, the ambience is nice and clean. If you can't have spicy food, I wouldn't recommend it. Plus, listen carefully to the waitresses. I didn't like the feeling of being taken for. I found these guys when googling Kathi Rolls and Kheema Paratha. They had great reviews, the photos looked excellent and so we ended up here on a Saturday afternoon. The food and service is absolutely phenomenal! We ordered a lamb biryani and a kheema paratha - it was excellent. The biryani was very fragrant and the lamb was not just boiled like a lot of places do - it was tender and well seasoned - the flavor was akin to biryanis in Calcutta. The kheema paratha was excellent too. Exactly what I was looking for. The paratha was not too oily and the stuffing was just the right amount. I also ordered a Basil Rose Lemonade - absolutely loved the balance between tart and sweet. The flavor was great. The service was above and beyond. Our server Mr. Amit was absolutely exceptional and was very attentive to what we needed.
