Yelped this place and was so glad i did. First off there is a wonderful assortment of homemade pastries, desserts, breads, cookies and other treats readily available as soon as you walk in. My goal was to grab a few treats to take with me and my family on our way to the aqaurium. The woman that helped me was very sweet and helpful. Recommending a few of the bakeries favorites. I got a mini Princess Cake, mini Fruit Tart, Macaroons, a Cinnamon Twist and an Almond Croissant. Everything was delightful and full of sugary goodness. Plus the customer service was outstanding. I would definitely come back to try more of their homemade treats. read more

Got an almond croissant and it was quite soggy on the bottom. Tasted ok. Nothing special. I was disappointed because this is definitely not a French bakery. I also got a hot water and it wasn't even hot. read more

I am a fan of Paris Bakery. But today they did me wrong. I waited probably about 10 minutes; no biggie, in fact behind me was a sweet old moslem grandmother patiently waiting. We smiled at each other in greeting. I bought blueberry loaf and a pastry named " strawberry almond" . The blueberry loaf alas tasty low sugar as recommended but where were the blueberries? I sliced an inch off it to find 1 blueberry. $5.25 Strawberry Almond deconstructed? A day-old croiisant. A spread of a pseudo creamy almond flour mixed with a cheaply made simple syrup with almond extract. The bird in the cage goes " Cheap .. Cheap.. Cheap" I will keep you in mind to still return buying french inspired pastry Paris Bakery.. But will scrutinize each pastry to deconstruct it so as not to be RIPPED OFF again! read more

I have been all over Europe, and the UK and this it truly my absolute favorite bakery! I haven't found anything I don't like there. Sandwiches are excellent! Pastries? Best of the best! Coffee? Can hold it's own against any leading coffee company. Service? Fast and furious. Prices? Typical for the area and quality. read more

Best French bakery I've ever been to! I loved everything I tried and came back multiple days over the course of our trip. In particular, the princess cake, fruit tart, and cherry croissant were delicious. I also fell in love with the raspberry palmier! Additionally their sandwiches and salads were incredible. You can tell that everything they serve is homemade. Right down to their own ranch dressing and hand shredded cheese. Plus the staff was very friendly and quick. Horrible first time experience. We ordered one almond croissant and ended up waiting while they cleared the entire line and gave everybody their orders besides us, not until I walked up and asked if they were still working on our almond croissant did the guy literally just grab a croissant and give it to us. Bad customer service. read more

Chocolate almond croissant!!! Not a puffy croissant, more like a strudel shape but filled w chocolate and topped w sliced almonds and drizzled chocolate. My favorite item here, better than their plain croissant and their mocha (served in a large ceramic bowl w handle) had a slight burnt coffee taste. Workers at the display case didn't seem overly appreciative for having paying customers who tip. We preferred Parker-Lusseau Pastries. read more

We stopped by here after visiting the Aquarium and needed to fulfill my sweet toof. Cute litle shop, so glad we made the stop What I ordered: WEDDING COOKIE: crispy and chewy bursting with flavor ALMOND FLAT COOKIE: chewy and so addicting, wish I picked up more... It's great to hear an employee say that yes we make everything on site to bad the quality doesn't match the enthusiasm croissants plain and filled along with the danish could have easily been brought in from Costco . A croissant should be crunchy on the outside and flaky on the inside in order for it to hold up when dipped in a Café au lait . Service is ok location is great credit cards accepted all 5 starts but only one star given because if your going to call your self Paris bakery you better be making one hell of a croissant . Hands down, my favorite go-to when visiting the scenic beaches and bustling wharf of Monterey. The croissants are soft, fresh, and almost always well-stocked. Don't wait TOO late or you'll get stuck with little to choose from. They also serve tea cookies and deli sandwiches. But the pastries and breads are what I usually get. read more

So happy I made this the first stop for my day in the Monterey area. My latte with a pump of hazelnut syrup was addictive, I hardly put it down once! It was made even better by pairing it with an almond croissant, wow that was yummy!! There was a bit of a wait to order, but it's a small place and I came at Noon on a Saturday, so 15 minutes is hardly anything to consider (but worth mentioning in case you're in a rush!) read more

Their breads are delicious, almond croissants that melt in your mouth, various pastries are just as delectable. We've been coming to Paris Bakery for many years. Their cakes are phenomenal. We had a special cake baked for our 10 year anniversary in 2003. It was AMAZING! The staff is friendly and honestly you will often be helped by someone who is genuinely French! I love coming and seeing the coffee clatch of older gentlemen "chewing the fat" and having their coffee. I usually buy a few almond croissants for the road. :) Tres magnifique! read more

My son and I woke up early and wanted to find a place close to out hotel that had coffee and some breakfast sandwiches. We drive past this spot and noticed a little line out the door and knew we had to stop here. We were there at about 9am, we were warmly greeted and helped patiently despite the long line. We got to try their signature cream cheese croissant, chocolate croissant, cheese Danish and my sons fav the giant chocolate cookie. My fav was the cream cheese croissant it was a taste of heaven. The croissant soft and fluffy and the cream cheese was mouth watering. great place for children! Great products for gifts and wonderful service! read more

It's a cute cafe with decent decors that remind me that they are influenced by the french. I got the Cappuccino and the chocolate mouse. The chocolate mouse was amazing. I highly recommend. However, the Cappuccino was a bit disappointing - the coffee didn't even taste very fresh. If you are a regular at good coffee places, you will know what I mean. The service wasn't the most efficient. I was waiting there for a while and there wasn't many customers. Feels like some improvement can be done with the management. read more

Every time we come into Monterey this bakery is our first sto and we buy to take home and eat after lunch. Their cuality has been decreasing every time we come in. This last Saturday was the last time. We purchased $38 worth of pastries. My youngest ordered a piece of ganache cake. Her review: dry, and hard. It seems the cake was old. We don't get the princes cake anymore because is all whipped cream and the cream does not taste good. Who ever makes is is over beating it making the cream taste greasy, or maybe their cream is of poor quality. The almond croissants were just ok. read more

Came here since Parker-Lusseau Pastries that is located down the street was closed. This is a bustling and popular place. Tons of seating and tons of pastries and baked goods to choose from. Hubby and I shared: *Almond croissant: 3/5 strong egg flavor, not enough almond paste. *Apple custard: 3/5 the custard seemed a bit old and stiff, the thinly sliced apple on top was the only thing I enjoyed. Prices are reasonable but you get what you pay for. read more

Pastries to die for! Popped in on a Saturday morning - what a great way to start the day! So many beautiful pastries to choose from it was hard to decide. We tried the apple croissant (tastes like apple pie!), chocolate croissant, blueberry scone (we'd prefer a few more blueberries) and lemon poppyseed muffins. They serve Seattle's Best coffee. We were not disappointed! You order at the counter and eat-in orders are brought to your table. Steady stream of customers and the staff was quick to serve everyone. Not a lot of seating; most people were taking food to go. We were here for lunch ~2 years ago and the sandwiches and service were as good as our visit today. Highly recommend! read more

Wanted to give this place a try and sadly wasn't impressed. The almond croissant tasted like it was a costco croissant with almonds on it. I prefer my croissants light & flaky and this was just mush. I will go to PL or Alta in the future, especially for a $4.50 croissant. read more

Unfortunately, they sold out of their epi baguette early, but the regular baguette isn't bad. Other pastries are generously sized. - Almond croissant: quite big, and it had a good amount of marzipan, texture was not super refined - Blueberry scone: like a giant blueberry biscuit All the pastries are best if reheated if not consumed on the day of. The Paris Bakery first started in 1985 by Jackie Jegat who originally called Le Montmartre. Prior to this venture, he had owned several bakeries in France before deciding to take the leap moving to the States in 1981. The Paris Bakery took off quick leading to Jackie to open a wholesale warehouse in Seaside, in 1986, which has been supplying fresh baked goods 365 days a year to Monterey Peninsula's well renowned restaurants, hotels, coffee houses, and delicatessens.

Get there early or prepare to wait in line--the secret is very much out. And deservedly so. The staff is exceptionally friendly, the setting is wonderful, and somehow the food tastes even better than it looks, which is an accomplishment considering the artistry coming out of the pastry case. Alta occupies part of the historic Cooper-Molera Adobe complex, and its back garden may be one of the loveliest places I've ever eaten breakfast. Passionflowers tumble over walls and trellises, potted plants and mature trees soften the courtyard, and shade sails make it an incredibly pleasant place to linger over coffee and pastry. It feels less like café seating and more like breakfast in a particularly lovely California garden. And then there's the food. I came back two mornings in a row. The first day's quiche was ham and roasted pepper; the second was cheese and mushroom. Both were outstanding. The egg filling had this almost impossibly silky quality, with a beautifully browned top and crisp, buttery crust. I found myself deliberately slowing down because I genuinely wanted to savor every bite. The pistachio-rose swirl was exceptional: delicate, flaky layers with honey, pistachio and rose playing off one another without becoming cloyingly sweet or perfumey. It's the sort of pastry that reminds you what laminated dough is actually supposed to be. The maple-bacon swirl was the only thing that didn't quite reach the same stratospheric level. The flavor was good, but the rendered bacon fat seemed to fuse some of those beautiful layers together during baking. At most bakeries I probably still would have called it very good. Alta had simply set an absurdly high standard for itself. Then a table beside me ordered the smoked-salmon toast, I saw it arrive, and resistance became pointless. Warm, hearty, thick-cut bread topped with crème fraîche, radish, pickled red onion, greens and a genuinely generous amount of smoked salmon. A triumph. Even the pistachio-honey latte was a dream. I can't rave about Alta enough. My only complaint is that I didn't have more mornings in Monterey to work my way through the rest of the menu. It was one of the culinary highlights of the entire trip and is now my benchmark for what an excellent bakery can be. Alta, you have ruined lesser bakeries for me. Five stars. No notes. Except: make more pastries. I have unfinished business.

I ordered to-go so I can't say much about the dine-in experience but it was nice that they had seating both inside and outside. I got the Mango Matcha Latte with soy milk which was great! The purée was sweet but not overly sweet and balanced out the matcha. I'm not a matcha snob so I can't tell you if it's high quality but I loved the color and it tasted rich. My only complaints are that the matcha was a bit bitter and this drink was $10. They charge $1 for soy or almond milk substitution so keep that in mind if you don't drink cow milk! Overall, I think it taste great but I feel like it should be around the $7-8 range instead of $10-11. This is definitely a touristy area so I was expecting higher prices.

It took the cashier a while to type in my order in the system which is fine but I was surprised that the order was put in for hot instead of iced. Then for the barista to say "seriously?" and rolling his eyes when I told him that I asked for iced, I understand that was at the situation and of course not at me. All that, only for the coffee to not be good anyways. Disappointed and cannot recommend this place.

I recently visited this bakery in Monterey and had a really disappointing experience, primarily due to the customer service. The guy taking orders was incredibly rude; he literally threw the plate with my pastry at me! When I mentioned I had another order, he snapped back, saying there were people ahead of me. After waiting for over an hour, my pastry still wasn't heated up. It was frustrating to see such poor service. Thankfully, one of the young ladies working there stepped in to help me. She was friendly and attentive, which was a refreshing contrast to the rude guy.I think it's a shame that someone like him is working here because it really ruins the experience. I hope they address this issue, as the bakery itself has potential. read more

Just moved to town and tried this place with my girlfriend since it comes highly recommended on Google. I started with a chocolate almond croissant, and a brownie, both were incredible. I was recommended a veggie wrap, they even went out of the way to make changes to it for me which was appreciated. I also tried the best French soda "the lemon is my favorite" and they carry a good variety of Dirty chips which is a personal fav. My girlfriend wanted to go back the next day (she's picky so that was surprising) so I tried a slice of the carrot cake and it did not disappoint. Visited Monterey with the BF last weekend and for some reason once we got to our hotel the first thing I wanted was sweets from some bakery. I started yelping and Paris Bakery happened to be nearby. They had so many good looking pastries. It took a while for us to decide what to get. Finally, we decided to go with one of each of the mini pasties (napoleon, eclairs, fruit tart, lemon tart, princess cake, and a chocolate ganache) and a bear claw. I was supposed to save them for the ride down to BIg Sur but ended up devouring my portion. oops. They all hit the right spot. I think next time I will have to go with the bigger sized Napoleon. Yum! If I can give this place 0 stars I would! I ordered a cake for a big thanksgiving reunion and what I got was a definition of no respect and lazy work! A bunch of small slices put together to make a cake? At least try and cover the lines up with more frosting! But not even that! This USED to be my favorite bakery but ever since new ownership, it has really gone down the drain! They removed a lot of my favorites and removed the sandwiches, talk about cheap! This bakery claims to be French with European quality cakes and pastries. That's a joke. The cakes are overly sweet more like American cakes and the pastries were awful. I have tried this bakery a few times and have been greatly disappointed with the quality of the cakes that I purchased. Several times the cakes were old and stale and had to be thrown away. The Black Forest cake known as Schwarzwälder Kirsch Torte was nasty and they definitely don't have the knowledge or know how how to properly prepare it. This bakery is definitely not worth visiting and I recommend going elsewhere for better service and food. read more

We had delicious food here today after our church meeting! Five of us came here this afternoon at the recommendation of our youth pastor for some post-service food. I had a sandwich that was absolutely stellar. Something about fresh baked bread really makes a good sandwich stand out. I made the mistake of taking a bite of a croissant that somebody else ordered and then I had to get my very own to eat when I got home with my coffee. Oh well I guess I'll start my diet tomorrow. Since new ownership, quality, price, taste, presentation has definitely gone DOWN. It might still be the same bakers but you can tell they're just doing "there job" no passion no love for there work. I blame new ownership. The manager informed me they do sell day old bread the next day for regular price! I recommend stopping by after 9am to get fresh croissants, anything earlier is from the day before and at regular price!! The only best thing I have gotten recently, are the baguettes and petit pain. This place is divine! My son & I occasionally go here after school for a hot chocolate and pastry/cookie/what-have-you. Go here on a holiday like Easter and you will be delighted to see hot cross Easter buns, cute decorated cookies and cakes, Easter themed goodies that will transport you to Paris and back again. In fact it's a good place to buy a "holiday" gift for that special young or old "kid" in your life. Take home a loaf of bread too! Great spot for either breakfast munchies or lunch. The pastries are excellent, fresh and mouthwatering. It's as if they were cooked just using butter-hmm. This is the place to indulge, not count calories. The first thing is to get past the very basic entrance decor. Decor is not what this place is about. It's about the food. My husband and I came here to purchase some desert. Anyway I purchased several cakes and some bread to take home. During this time while I was placing my order my husband went to use the facilities. W/C When he came back he was somewhat annoyed and upset. Anyway we drove home and he then told me that while in the Toilet he noticed there was no soap for washing ones hands. This put me off and also made me toss out the cakes I had purchased when we got home. If there is no soap to wash your hands how do the employees wash? This could also be a health hazzard. I have been going to Paris Bakery since I was a little girl and now I take my kids there almost weekly. The croissants are fantastic, the princess cake is delicious and I love there turkey baquette sandwich with the hidden hard-boiled egg inside. This is a great spot to be loud with the kids or to enjoy the paper, a cappucino and a delicious pastry by yourself. Most of the bakery treats are absolutely delicious. Love the croissants, fruit tarts, many of the desserts (you can tell we keep coming back -- so it's got to be good!). Seating is crowded, especially at lunch. Getting food-allergy information is not easy and sometimes incorrect (which is crucial if it's life-threatening as in some nut allergies). Wow wow wow! I came in with a group of 4 and every single thing we tried was incredible. After we ate what we ordered we went back in to order more dessert to go. I got the almond croissant, light roast house coffee, and a BLT. The almond croissant was served warm, and the BLT was unlike any other BLT I've had before because the bread was cheesy and fluffy. Their croissants are just yum, their bread is great, their pastries are amazing (princess cake is my favorite), and their soups and sandwiches hit the spot for lunch! What we received was a dry cake with hardly any flavor. My Mother thought it was just a yellow cake, she couldn't even taste the lemon. And she is an experienced baker. She made our lemon and raspberry wedding cake, that my husband was trying to recreate. The raspberry "preserves" were gelatinous, like pie filling from a can. Preserves should be a jam like consistency, only with larger fruit pieces. But sadly, this was goopy and artificial tasting. And the buttercream was greasy, not creamy, like it was made from Crisco shortening (not butter), sugar and water. It didn't even have any flavor (maybe they forgot to put vanilla extract in it?) Even the construction of the cake was poor. They clearly didn't put enough batter in the pans. Normally you shave the rounded top off to make it flat. This bakery just added tons of icing in an attempt to make up for the rounded edges. Which also meant there were barely any raspberry "preserves" in between the layers. And last but not least. When my husband special ordered the cake (in person) he asked for white sprinkles. When he arrived to pick up the cake, it wasn't ready. And they told him they didn't have white sprinkles. And offered to cover the entire cake in tiny rock hard pearls, that are typically only used sparingly for decorative purposes. Because they are so hard, many decorators recommend removing them before eating! My Dad bit into it and said it was like trying to eat buck shot. My Father has never met a cake or sweet he didn't like, until now. He didn't want another piece during his entire visit. My mother and I didn't even finish our first piece. To charge $70 for this 8" cake was just criminal. I would have returned it if I could.
