Since the change of ownership, this bakery has changed, unfortunately not for the better! I have been frequenting this bakery since its inception more than 30 years, sad to say it's no longer the same. the latest shock was when I noticed most pastries and croissants are cut down to HALF size! yes half. that big crispy fluffy apple turnover was now a tiny and flat triangle, When I inquired if the price was also down, I was told that it went up! Not only that that sweet apple cinnamon taste in the crispy apple turnover is gone and today it was tart! The Baguettes have changed, no density, light as a paper and does not have the same Parisian taste! Seeded baguette have disappeared. Vivianne had a wonderful friendly and inviting smile, now smiles are lacking and so is the service quality, I had to wait more than 10 minutes, and I was the only one in line. I am not one to complain and like to encourage local businesses, but I am sorry to see these changes happening to one of our favorite bakeries! I recommend changing the name as it is no longer "Parisian". cutting corners to maximize profits is not a good way to start. read more

Had something I'm not sure of the name (Kraken? Craquelin?), but it cost $4.50 (as did all of the French pastries that didn't have prices shown in the display case), plus a Chocolate Truffle (with almond topping) for $1.80. Unfortunately, I didn't find either particularly to my liking. The $4.50 one was a rectangular slice of mostly chocolate mousse, with a thick layer of chocolate on the top, and a chewy wafer on the bottom. It was pretty good, but a bit too sweet for my tastes. The first time I came here the prices scared me but once you realized that you like French cake it's a great deal. I recently came here during a weekend off provided by my job at Muni. I must say once I'm in the cravings of French food I have been satisfied. Sure it sucks money but well worth the price. I had Le gâteau de princesse and it's a really unique experience. I visited this place by chance on my first trip to Monterey. Now that my husband and I are residents, we go almost weekly. The staff is focused on their business but polite and friendly when you extend a compliment. It always appears clean. We like to get pan au chocolat and the spinach quiche. I recommend asking for both to be heated. The chocolate gets gooey like nutella and a hot quiche is perfectly savory and hearty on cold Monterey mornings. The orange tazo tea is also delicious! The pastries here are beautiful to see and delicious to eat. The selection is remarkable and includes several different dough recipes: puff, pie, and cookie pastry. Some are sweet and some are savory. You can have lunch here enjoying the savory filled croissants salads, and quiches. The establishment is unfortunately unattractive from the street which is a shame. There is also no bike rack or pole, so locking up the bikes was troublesome and annoying. Stars were also docked because the bathroom is a disaster. The floor linoleum is broken exposing its black, moldy underneath. And it was alarmingly dirty. We were there late morning and the shop was not busy, so there seems to be no excuse for this neglect. Unclean bathrooms are often indicative of a lack of cleanliness in other areas. While visiting in Monterey we were out searching for a small local bakery and stumbled upon this one. Glad we did Food: CHOCOLATE GANACHE 10/10 chocolate heaven but not overly sweet just perfect. CARROT CAKE 10/10 perfectly layered and just all around delicious. MULTIGRAIN BREAD 8/10 a lil chewy but yummy overall loved it. Got a few cookies and they were yummy too. Would love to come back and taste their other goodies. Service: They dont have much seating so its better to take it to go. Be ware though that some of the pastries might melt if not kept in fridge. This has been my go to bakery for years whenever I hit up the beaches in the surrounding areas. Food and pastries have been consistent with super friendly service. Pros Jambon Beurre: Ham and a butter spread on French baguette. It may sound simple to some but the combination of 3 ingredients makes for a satisfying sandwich. It also happens to a convenient sandwich to bring along the beach where you won't have to worry about all sorts of toppings falling out of place. The baguette is here is chewy yet crispy at the same time. Pastries: Once you step inside, you'll first notice their huge displays of pastries. They have all sorts of sweets to satisfy any dessert cravings. They have savory or sweet croissants. For their croissants, I enjoy the chocolate and banana since each bite has a generous and balanced filling of both chocolate and banana. Huge selection of cakes, sliced or whole. One of my favorites here is the napoleon, the puff pastry is always flaky and crispy with a thick layer of delicious custard filling. There's also ton of fruit tarts but I personally enjoyed the fruit tarts with the creamy custard filling. Cons Chocolate Ganache: So far the only item I wasn't pleased with. The cake was extremely dry and brittle but the chocolate ganache was redeemable because of its rich and smooth chocolate taste. read more

I loved this bakery! My husband I stopped by on our honeymoon. We were only in the area 2 days, but we liked it so much we came back the next day. So many delicious options, it was so hard to choose what to get! I tried Princess Cake for the first time and it was great. The plain croissant was also great. I was a bit disappointed when we returned, we went a little later in the day and one of the items I wanted to try was sold out. But, guess you've gotta get there early for the best stuff! Been going here for several years. The quality has been consistent and top-notch, and the dessert prices high. They make all sorts of things, but their patisserie is what they're known most for locally. Everything in it is great in both flavor and presentation--this is definitely the place to hit on the way to a classy party--and it is consistently stocked with a wide selection. However, the prices are very much premium. Their eight-person (if you cut small) cakes are nearly $40 a piece. Their baked goods are solid with a wide selection, and more reasonably priced. I guess as a bakery they live up to their name. However, their sandwiches are hit-or-miss. Again, they look very nice and the bread is quality, but the meats are average and toppings basic. Prices for sandwiches and breakfast snacks are refreshingly reasonable considering its location. The coffee shop is good, but doesn't stand out above the others in the area (and there are plenty). Also, the atmosphere is loud and cramped, so not really a spot to sip a cup and relax or chat up a date.
