Went here for Veronica Escobars campaign night watch party. They have a tented backyard, which is where the event was held. We just drank beer so can't judge the cocktails but the service at this crowded event was impeccable. We tried the hummus and veggies, the mini steak tostada, and the teriyaki chicken skewers. All were great, easy finger foods to eat while chatting. It was a chili night so they had the heat lamps going and since there weren't enough chairs they brought some in last minute to accomadate more guests. Attended a business dinner here last night and it was the perfect venue! We shared 3 appetizers (the crab cakes, duck tostones and queso) and all ordered drinks. I had the porkchop, some of the table ordered the salmon, 2 ordered the elk WITH scallops (per the recommendation of our waiter - great suggestion!!), one ordered the New York strip and another the chicken piccata. I noticed 2 large sitting tables that were empty but I decided to wait as the hosted stated. Friends have been telling me how great this place is and I was sooo excited. It seemed like a perfect date night place. I wanted to like Park Tavern a lot, but alas it fell well below expectations. Location - Downtown! Parking meters are free after 6pm though so take advantage of that. It's also right next to the San Jacinto Plaza, so if you go at night, the trees are all lit up and makes for a great night time stroll and some photo ops. Ambiance - They had plenty of tables and odd booths (half a circle). The booth was a little odd because sitting right across from each other was too far, but then sitting right next to each other was slightly awkward because you were either staring at the bar or a wall in the background. There was live music when I went though which was very nice and the restaurant was well lit, not too dim as some fancy restaurants tend to be. Service - Service was fantastic. The servers were attentive and well informed about the menu and any questions we had. Food: Cortez - a fruity pineapple, alcoholic drink that was so good, it was dangerous. (Happy hour from 3-7pm, so it was $2 off.) Duck Tostones - highly recommended and a bit unique. The flavors blended well, but make sure to put the sauce on! It's a bit spicy but a pleasant spicy that enhances the flavors. Elk Tenderloin - I wanted to like it, I swear, but the meat was just tasteless. The chimichurri on top made it a little more flavorful, but did nothing to really show off the meat. The potatoes were too salty, but I enjoyed the asparagus and the sauce it came with. Lamb Rack - The brussel sprouts that came with it were fairly good and the presentation was beautiful, but once again, the meat itself did not taste like anything besides the chipotle glazed on top. Also, I understand that it was cooked medium-rare, but the middle of the meat seemed a bit too rare? My boyfriend decided not to finish it because of this and we usually like our meat cooked medium-rare. Pricing - For a cocktail drink, appetizer, and two entrees + tip and tax, our total was $90. I was prepared to pay a bit more for a nice dinner, but for this was waaay more than expected for the quality of the food we had. Overall, Park Tavern fell well below expectations despite the raving reviews I've heard from friends. Park Tavern is a nice place to celebrate a special occasion. We went with three other couples and they were able to take a phone reservation on a Friday night after checking with the manager, so they were very accommodating. We were a little late because parking was very hard to find-- even the pay parking lot across the street was full so we had to scour the area for a street parking spot, so get there with enough time to park. It's a little pricey but as a treat or a fun night downtown, it was worth it. The food portions are not huge but still filling and it was delicious. The ambiance has a cool city vibe with an outside area that's pretty nice. We sat indoors and it was a very pleasant experience. I've been to Park Tavern many times since its opening and am not only thankful to have a casual downtown alternative to Anson 11, but one that is somewhat more consistent as well. During my last visit a week ago, I experienced the same attentive service I received in past visits. To me at least, this indicates to me good management and good training. Servers don't seem to be thrown to the wolves without getting an understanding of the menu and how the kitchen works. My French Dip could have been better. Perhaps I've ordered it one too many times and should give it a rest. The roll seems "grocery bought" not "bakery made" and the beef this go-round, was drier than last time. Still, with the au jus, both the roll and the beef missteps were obscured. The location is great--easily walkable from the major downtown hotels, right off San Jacinto Plaza. I would rate the ambience at Park Tavern as urban casual--not pretentious or stuffy, but "dressier" than flip-flops and shorts. I've previously left a glowing review about this place. I wish I could say I was doing the same on this occasion. I've been to Park Tavern at least a dozen times since they opened. I've never needed a reservation, but on the evening I went last week there was a big show downtown and the place was packed. There were open tables, but we were told they were for reservations. No worries, I get it. We told the hostess we would gladly wait and she suggested we head to the bar to grab a drink and offered to let us sit on the patio. We headed to the bar and got in line. There were two couples ahead of us who were getting drinks. When it was our turn a waiter approached us and said we were in the server area. We asked where we should go as the bar was full of people eating dinner. He said "anywhere but here". Now, a good waiter would have offered to get us a drink - especially if we were waiting on a table - rather than suggest that we elbow our way through people eating their dinner. This isn't a dive bar or a club where you should be elbowing your way through. It's a restaurant that describes themselves as a fine dining experience. When we told the waiter that was tacky he stopped and said "seriously? No it isn't. I can't have you in my way in the server area." Now, out of all the times I have been here, the food and drinks (while slow) are always good and the staff is attentive, but we had no less than 3 people annoyed with us for being in the "way". We finally left and the hostess ran out saying "a table just opened up" after we had been told it would be an hour wait and went through the bar debacle. We kept walking and I won't be back until the staff has some customer service training. read more

For a $50 meal in El Paso, I was expecting it to be top notch. However, it was just OK. On my most recent visit for dinner, the service was slow (on an allegedly "slow" night). Notably, I was with a party of six, and we had reservations. The atmosphere is nice. I like the modern vibe in a downtown restaurant. The food was hit or miss. One of my colleagues and I ordered the scallop entrée. My friend's dish had one more scallop than mine. My rice was undercooked (ie HARD) and of my three scallops, only one was cooked with a nice sear. One of the other scallops was extremely salty and overcooked. One had no sear at all. I did not choose to complain being that I was with a group of coworkers. One woman did not like her lamb dish as it was overcooked. Other colleagues who ordered salmon agreed that their dish was good but not great. I have been to Park Tavern a few other times in which I've tried a few other menu items. The salads are pretty good, but I don't think that the quality of the food lives up to the menu prices. read more
