Restaurant Week 2022. It was nothing special. Crab cake was amazing and bacon wrapped dates were just ok. Salmon with lime chipotle was really good. The steak was underseasoned and underdone. Dessert was strawberry shortcake and banana pudding. Again nothing spectacular. The steak and salmon are not on their regular menu which was confusing. Downtown Raleigh restaurant on the corner of Martin and Dawson serving American fare. Mid-size interior with a full bar in the center area. Went there for restaurant week, so it was a 3 course dinner for $30. Got the crab cake for starter, and it was pretty good. The main course was a 12 oz serving of prime rib with mash potatoes and green beans. The prime rib was a big piece of meat, and it tasted pretty good. I liked the horseradish spread that came with the beef, but it was curious that they didn't serve the prime rib with any au jus. The green beans were average, and the mashed potatoes were really good. As for the dessert, I got the banana pudding chocolate cake, which is banana pudding sandwiched between two layers of chocolate cake. It tasted alright, but not as good as the other two courses. In addition to the restaurant week meal, I also got a free plate of guac, salsa and cheese dips with chips using the Stealz app. By the end of the night, I was definitely full, and my palate was satisfied. read more

Lunch here with my daughter on a weekday afternoon. Lots of variety on the menu but of all the items we tried, nothing was a home run. Everything looked delicious when it was served but sadly the taste was just average. I would describe our entire meal as average. We are not going back.The only upside to this place was the service. Tomato soup- this soup was so chunky I had to chew it and the chunks were either garlic or onion, not tomato (meant to be rustic perhaps?) I didn't get any great tomato flavor so maybe the tomatoes were old..... Green beans- zero seasoning, zero flavor, steamed straight from the garden I guess... I used to eat lunch here at least once a week ordering through Grub Hub (so please note that all my reviews are for take out.) Unfortunately Parkside recently stopped participating in Grub Hub :( When I did eat there though I always got one of two things (both of which I dream about, for real) I LOVE the BLT sandwich. The bread is delicious, the mayo is some how better than any other, the bacon - OH THE BACON - is thick cut and deliciously crisp. The other item is the hummus appetizer. The hummus is pretty good and I enjoy that they serve it with both veggies and pita but the true star are the sweety drops on top of the hummus! If you don't know what those are - they're tiny sweet peppers that are both sweet and savory at the same time. I even ordered them online. I took off a star though because I've had portions of my order missing or messed up on multiple occasions. I don't know whether this is Parkside's issue or Grub Hub's but since it's happened with different drivers each time I must assume Parkside. Still love it though! read more

Absolutely lovely experience this evening at Parkside in downtown Raleigh. From the manager who greated me to the young man who prepped the table to the fabulous server Caroline, it was a wonderful dining experience. The beef short ribs Stroganoff did not disappoint, and the grilled peaches with homemade vanilla ice cream were perfection-- grilled just right with a sprinkling of crumbly streusel. The atmosphere is comfortable and very chill, making it easy to relax and eat at a leisurely pace. Plus, whoever's choosing the tunes has good taste in music. I usually get the chicken and waffle sandwich with mac and cheese and it's always amazing--definitely comfort food. However, they have a lot of other options and healthier options, I just haven't tried those. The service is usually pretty good. There are several TVs with sports games usually going. Came here for brunch today. I ordered to deviled eggs, prime rib scramble , mimosa flight and the pork chop and mimosa flight. The prime rib was everything but prime. The meat was grey and cold when it arrived to the table. I sent it back immediately as it looked and tasted old. The "jalapeño" bacon deviled eggs are actually bell peppers so I sent that appetizer back as well. When I did the plate was brought back to my table and I was told that they "seed they jalapeños so they are not spicy" I know the difference between a bell pepper and a jalapeño. I was asked if I wanted to finish the plate after I already sent it back bo ended up ordering the blackened salmon as a substitute which was far from seasoned. My server was very nice and I made sure to tip to not penalize them for the kitchens mistakes. All in all I was very disappointed with my experience here and will not be back. If you're looking for a solid brunch I'd suggest you look elsewhere. read more

This restaurant needs some serious training in customer service! We arrived at 1:20 for a 1:15 reservation and were told to hang on and we'd get our seat. At 1:35 the original hostess that told us this left and disappeared. Meanwhile other people come in and are seated immediately. We proceeded to seat ourselves at a high top. Waited there until 1:45, completely ignored until we flag down another server who says she'll be right with us. 10 minutes more and she's across the restaurant starting orders at a table of 12. So now it's almost 2:00pm they move us to another table still no drinks we just leave. I've dined out since 1980 and I've never seen or experienced such terrible customer service. If you dig through their Google reviews you'll find many similar experiences and negative reviews. I'll never set foot in this place again. Luckily we went up the street to Mellow Mushroom and got stellar service and food in a timely manner. read more

We came a little after noon on Sunday for brunch. We walked to it from my friend's place, which I thought helped build our appetite by the time we got there. The hostess was nice, and told us we had a ten minute wait, since we didn't have reservation, but it took even less time to be seated. The place is a little tight, which isn't too surprising for a downtown Raleigh restaurant, but it made the noise kind of high. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with tater tot hash, and my friends got the chicken grit bowl and the chicken and waffle sandwich with Mac and cheese. The service was good, and wait time for food wasn't long at all. The chicken was very spicy, but tasted great, so if you can handle some spice, I'd highly suggest it. I tried the grits bowl and chicken waffles, which were okay, but not as great as my sandwich. The Mac and cheese was creamy and not too rich, the way I like it, and the tater tot hash was an amazing idea that I'm not sure why I never had before. I'll definitely be back sometime. read more

Really yummy! The menu has so many excellent elevated comfort food options! The bacon wrapped dates were terrific. Such a good mix of sweet and savory! My chicken and waffle sandwich was fantastic! The waffle was crisp outside soft inside with rosemary onion offsetting the sweetness. The chicken was fried perfectly and seasoned well. The harissa maple syrup was such a nice dipping sauce, sweet heat perfection! The cranberry 75 was a nice wintery spiced cocktail! The service was very nice and friendly. It was a bit cool inside so bring your cardigan to enjoy all the holiday decor! There's a Pay lot just up the street that was quick and easy since street parking was full. Abysmal service. We sat at the bar, there was no effort to clean the space after we sat down. The bartender barely acknowledged us. We were served our appetizer and had to wait to get the attention of the bartender for silverware. We were handed plastic ware and he mumble something about silverware being washed. When we received our entrees and again had to wait for the bartender to acknowledge us. We asked for silverware (after seeing a few other patron receiving rolled silverware.) He walked away and brought back rolled silverware and gave it to the people next to us, our bill was $75 and we ate with plastic ware and weee served in a very poor and dismissive manner. Great mix of American southern food, I had the chicken and waffle sandwich my wife had the meatloaf dinner and another friend had the stroganoff dinner, everyone loved their dinners! This place is a disaster! We arrived early because we were headed to a concert, and we were among the first people there. An hour later we still hadn't gotten our food. The bartender looked like she was in a fog. She told us it was her second day and management had thrown her into the fire. We ended up leaving without eating, as did a few people around us. We both ordered Bloody Marys, which were delicious. For an app, we got the jalapeño and bacon deviled eggs- yum! I ordered the BLT with tater tots and my fiancé got the prime rib scramble dish. I came for dinner on a weekend evening and wasn't too impressed with the food. The place was pretty empty when we showed up, even with it being a weekend. I ordered the Braised Beef Stroganoff. The flavors were pretty good, but the textures were too one-dimensional and blah. The main reason was because the beef was pretty much fall-off-the-bone, which was nice and tender, but the softness of the meat just added to the softness of everything else in the dish. A bit more texture would have been welcomed - even some fresh parsley or herbs on top to add even the slightest crunch, brightness, and contrast would have went a long way. Another good dish we ordered was the meat loaf. Yes, it's meat loaf, and it's something that is relatively easy to make at home, but they did a good job with the flavors, texture, and overall composition of the meat loaf, so I enjoyed it. The salmon was just ok. It was cooked rather well, but overall it was kind of plain in terms of flavor. The jackfruit imitation barbecue was not a big hit for me. I'm not vegan, so I get to enjoy actual meat, and it's hard for me not to compare a vegan dish to the meat that it's imitating. Let's just say the jackfruit doesn't really live up to what decent barbecue should taste like. And that leads me to the actual pulled pork barbecue that we ordered. It was not good. It seemed like they took all the scraps from the pig and tried to call it barbecue. The meat was hard, chewy, not flavorful, and just downright shameful to serve as pulled pork in North Carolina. It was not even on par with what you'd get at Smithfields or Cook Out - not even in the same stratosphere, really... much less Cooper's or Allen and Son. Let's just say the jackfruit barbecue tasted better. And that's coming from someone who feels empty when there's no meat on the dinner table. With regards to the sides, they were overall pretty good. The collards were way too salty, but everything else I tried was pretty standard. We tried the banana pudding for dessert, and it was not bad, but I'd recommend that you save your money on that one. The service was a bit strange, because we started out with one server, and ended up with a different one, even though I don't think the first server left in the middle of our meal. There ended up being 3 or 4 tables occupied, so they weren't crazy busy either. The first server was very helpful and friendly, but the second was a bit unpolished, dropping things when she was getting our dishes and just leaving the dirty items she dropped on the table even after she brought out our dessert to eat. Overall, it wasn't an awesome experience, but there were some positive aspects. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd go back anytime soon, especially not for dinner. read more

It is a tavern style restaurant with TV's on all the walls and a typical American menu. The pricing isn't too bad and everything we tried was good (Burger and Chicken Sandwich). I would average it as around $15/head type of a menu. This won't be the most amazing place you've ever eaten but it will be a solid choice. read more

I have been wanting to try Parkside for a long time, and now I know it was worth the wait and anticipation. The service, the food, all of it was fantastic. I splurged for the chicken biscuit bowl after our waitress helped me make up my mind - it was worth every calorie. The chicken was perfectly crispy and the gravy was perfection. The jalapeño gravy is different from the chorizo gravy which was more of a red eye gravy..not my favorite. I will most definitely be back to try more! read more
