Parkside Taphouse has a lot of potential but still quite a ways to go. First and foremost I think they are going to have a lot of patronage due to the outdoor seating area. It's very welcoming and is set back far enough from the road that it's not annoying. This will be a great place to dine during Farmer's Marker season. When we got there, there was a 30 minute wait so the host took down our cell number. We decided to just order at the bar because there was seating and full menu service - which is nice. When out table came up, they called the phone which I thought was super weird. My husband couldn't hear anything they were saying because it was so loud in there so he just had to get up and walk to the from counter. Why don't they just text? It'd be so much easier! My other concern is what they do if you don't want to give out your number. I don't really like giving out my phone number to strangers or businesses so I hope they offer an alternative soon - I'm sure they could use an app or something. So on with the meal. Upon sitting we discovered three separate ants. One on my head (ew!) one on my menu, and one on the table. Not sure what was up with that....maybe I don't want to know. Haha. Our waiter was nice and friendly but service was painfully slow. We ordered some beers and my pregnant friend ordered a mocktail which she didn't drink more than two sips of because it was gross and had no ice. Beer selection was OK - not many unique beers, mostly your typical local beers (SNB, Sac area breweries, etc.) I think Burgers and Brews still has a better selection at this point. We ended up getting a Hips Helles, Track 7 Panic, and Hexagenia - all good beers, but nothing we hadn't had before. As for food, I ordered the Quinoa Tacos because they seemed to be the only vegan-ish item on the menu (without cheese) - they are technically an appetizer. The rest of the people I was with got the Bratwurt Knockwurst, Tap House Burger, and Salmon BLT. What I noticed weird inconsistent pricing. My three street-tacos which were very small were $13 while my friend's huge bratwurst sandwich and pile of fries was $12. Made no sense. All that was in the tacos was quinoa and sweet potatoes - cheap ingredients. It's rare that the vegetarian appetizer costs more than the meaty entree and doesn't make much sense. Once we were done eating it took centuries to get out ticket. The server would not make eye contact and we had to grab him as he walked by to ask for the ticket. I know they were really busy but I was mildly annoyed. I am definitely excited about this place. I think they could make it a great spot in Chico if they Chico'd up their menu by adjusting prices and adding more vegetarian/vegan stuff. The interior is very well decorated and I can't wait to use the outside patio. I will definitely be back looking for the kinks to be worked out. read more

This is an update from my previous review. I must say nice atmosphere and it looks really nice, however the food is a little overated and expensive for what it is. My burger was 13 dollars which turned into a 17 dollar burger after they charged me 2.00 for cheese and then 2.00 for avocado, not to mention the avocado I did not receive. I asked for a side of ranch as well and I had to pay for it 50 cents. I would have thought for 17 dollars I could get a side of ranch. They are nit picky on the prices for everything. I feel like I would have gotten more at knoby's for the price. Over priced!!. my father in laws salmon blt was cold when it arrived to the table and they forgot to bring out an entree that we had to wait an additional 15 minutes for. Park side? More like hurry your ass up side. I walked in parched from a long day of working as a Chico state scholar. But park side had other plans and decided dehydration was the key to fine dining. I ordered a cocktail, got it prior to my water which ended up in a quick intoxication. Beer cheese had an an alcohol volume of below a coors light while I was expecting an IPA kinda dip. He walked up to me and said verbatim "can you not read between the lines" " act like an adult" " I don't recommend you come to my bar ever again" in a very belittling demeanor. All because I was apparently standing in the wrong spot trying to get water. I stated "why are you talking down to me like that"? Afterwards, he immediately told me that I was kicked out because of "my attitude" and used his microphone to call other bouncers! I absolutely did nothing wrong in this situation! A fun new place in the heart of downtown. The atmosphere is awesome, but they have several major kinks to work out before they are able to compete with other brewhouses in town. First of all, the service is slow. This is probably because they just opened and don't have the flow of the kitchen down yet. It took about 40 minutes from when we ordered to when we got our food. The food also didn't all come out at once. My moms food came out almost 10 minutes before mine, which was weird and annoying. Secondly, the menu prices are inconsistent and high. Some things are a good value, like the bratwurst ($12) which was huge and came with a side of fries. Things like the tacos ($13) and the Thai chicken salad ($15) were so small and underwhelming for the price. The tacos were probably worth $8 and the salad was probably worth $6. My third complaint is the bar/beer menu. For a restaurant with "taphouse" in the name, I would expect the beer list to be long and comprehensive. I wish there were descriptions for each beer describing the flavor, IBU, etc. Instead the beers are just listed by name with no other info. Also, they have a full bar but no specialty drinks, which is weird for a restaurant with this atmosphere. 3 stars may be a little generous for the experience I had there, but I want this place to do well and improve where needed. It definitely has a lot of potential. The hosts and servers were nice, and the bratwurst was delicious. The atmosphere is also awesome, and the indoor/outdoor bar and patio will be great on warm summer nights. I look forward to coming back to Parkside and hopefully updating my review to 4 or 5 stars. read more

I was iffy at first when I saw the mixed reviews, but I can honestly say I had some of the best service with the nicest staff, and that's not to mention the food is phenomenal. I had the lobster Mac and cheese which was awesome but I'd highly recommend the steaks. They just melt in your mouth. I already can't wait to go again. read more

My experience here was so so. Our waiter was very friendly and funny. Unfortunately he was inundated with tables and it took him forever to be able to bring us our finall bill. Not his fault. It was Friday evening after all. The food wasn't special. It tasted fine (not great, but not bad), however pricing was off on a few items such as the quinoa veggie tacos. Cheap ingredients, small portion and yet a high price. It just didn't fit. Beer of course is good! Not a very large selection though. I saw people drinking wine, but I didn't see a wine list. The place is beautifully decorated. Acoustically it's hard to hold a conversation! Very very loud. When they get the kinks out, it will be a great place. I'm sure of it! Stars are for food and service. However entire staff including kitchen were maskless. We came here for Sunday brunch since it was a 30 mins wait at La Salles. Glad we did. We were seated right away outside. Service was good-attentive. Food came out fast. Chicken tacos and chilaquiles were delicious. But the must order is the French toast with creme fraiche. I love the ambiance this restaurant has to offer. Nice bar area as well as private tables. Outside looked fun too if it wasn't freezing out. Drinks were first and the cosmo and yuppie were on point! But on the real both your bathroom stall doors are broken and that's something that should be a high priority to fix so people can drop a deuce in privacy. Had lunch here yesterday. Nice patio and friendly waitress. We got the Parkside salad and added chicken. Chicken was very good but the ranch dressing did not taste like ranch. We also had chicken wings which were very good. Again the ranch was not good at all. Environment is fun, lively, and entertaining. It'll definitely be a busy spot for quite some time. Ordered some drinks while we were there, because why not? And the simple drinks were pretty good, but it's hard to mess up a gin and tonic. But for our second round we ordered something a little more complex and the drinks weren't great. It was too busy to ask to have them remade, so we drank them... and lived, but they weren't quite spot on. . Will probably be back at some point; the patio is awesome! Great atmosphere for Downtown Chico, definitely was not expecting this place when we did a Pub Crawl to celebrate my birthday. The place is awesome with outside area and a very modern inside area that was very clean, unlike many of the other bars in Downtown Chico. The bartenders were able to make proper cocktails and they seemed very skilled in their craft. Our group of 30 was able to find seating all together in the front area and a few of us had some appetizers. Everyone loved their food and we all were able to share as the portions were large. The bacon-sausage sampler platter was amazing! Parkside Tap House is a definite go to and a great addition to Downtown Chico. It was nice to not feel grungy while drinking in their establishment like many of the other local bars. Well done to the owner and the staff, and thank you for taking care of our large group as we celebrated my birthday. read more

I'm a local and recently came home for the holidays and was excited try Parkside for the first time. I was warned the service was terrible and not to go here, but I wanted to try out the new digs. Multiple friends' advice proved to be too true. The bartenders DO NOT care about the customers WHATSOEVER. My boyfriend and I walked up to the bar and were waiting for service for a few minutes when someone else walked up for a drink and was immediately helped. I'm willing to let some things go because I myself am a bartender and I know that sometimes people are overlooked when it is busy. HOWEVER. It was not busy. We went over to a different employee thinking maybe he could help us. He said he was just a barback. He didnt try to help us, ask if we needed something or even--hey here's a revolutionary idea: find someone who CAN help us--he simply walked away. After finally getting a drink The bartender told us they "closed soon" so we shouldn't leave our tab open. Which I thought was strange because they didn't close for another 40 minutes. 25 minutes before closing, they turned the lights on without calling last call and I watched as they walked around and told people it was time to leave. To be honest, I will never go back here and I will never recommend anyone to go here, just as I was told by multiple people not to bother. If the service is this bad when it's not that busy I can't imagine what it's like when it is busy. read more

We have been to this place 3 times. The food is not bad. The beer is pretty good. We had the same server for two visits, unfortunately. The last time we ate there we had to find someone so we could pay our bill because our server had just disappeared without a trace. My friends came here last Saturday with the intention of getting some food and drinks. We went in and were immediately treated rudely by the hostess when we asked about outdoor seating. So, we then sat at the bar. We each ordered a drink. My friends all got their drinks and in the mean time the bartender proceeds to take care of 4 other patrons who came afterwards while I still didn't have a drink. She proceeds to take shots and starts doing dishes so I assume she probably forgot. Things happen. The other bartender came to ring us up since my friends were now finished with their drinks. I asked him to make sure we were only paying for three drinks since we did not receive the fourth. She starts making my drink as we are talking to him and brings it to me. She rudely stated how slammed she's been. I stated that I totally understood and just figured she forgot it which happens. However my friends are ready to go and I'm just now receiving my full drink. She walks off while I'm drinking my drink as quick as I can and she slams down a drink which then splatters me and my friend in the face. So we immediately got up to leave. As we are leaving, the hostess was snarky once again. We would have and intended to spend so much more money there but that was the absolute worst service I have ever endured! read more
