Coming from a rescue background and running my own personal rescue, I urge everyone to PLEASE adopt a puppy from a rescue or shelter instead. There are so many puppies of all different sizes and breeds that are looking for a home through a rescue or shelter. I promise you WILL find your perfect match. Puppies in rescues are going to come from a home environment already and most rescues adoption prices are cheaper than Partners prices AND the puppies are better cared for with far better medical care. The amount of money that goes into these rescue animals is far more than any adoption fee. Give these rescue puppies a chance before shopping for one. It would mean the world to me and every puppy in need of a home in rescue. On top of this, being an exotic vet technician I can tell you that the rest of the animals in this store are almost always unhealthy and terribly kept. I will never step foot in this store again. Please do not shop here, for the animals sake. And if you must, PLEASE do not take their advice for how to care for these animals. My heart aches for these animals, but please stand your ground and do not try and "rescue" them from this situation, it will just continue the cycle. We have to end it. read more

I really don't understand all the negative reviews . Initially my husband and I went looking for a puppy for our 2 year old daughter, which we needed like a hole in the head with 2 pitbulls at home already. After looking around my husband feel in love wiyh a bearded dragon . Well because it was a holiday my bank was closed , after giving my deposit I was told we could pick up the dragon the next day . I explained I just had surgery and could not lift the tank etc . The staff was so kind , and did everything curbside for me, and was extremely helpful. read more

Do not spend your money here. We purchased a puppy from here and they said they would give the puppy all sets of his shots there but they lied. No rabies vaccination was included and pet centers are supposed to have them microchipped but they didn't do that either. We took our puppy to the vet and he still needed more sets of shots that partners lied about giving him. If that isn't enough to steer you away from this place, then maybe the horrible attitudes of the employees will put the icing on your cake. We have finicky hermit crabs... they won't eat the brands you find at WalMart or big chain pet stores, so I turned to Partners in search of solutions (for two years, we've bought in bulk from souvenir shops when we visit the coast). This place is a true-blue pet store (Like, the kind with puppies!) I didn't even have to browse myself... walked in, told them what I wanted and they brought it to me, which was appreciated since COVID is still around. I also bought some crickets and cricket food (3 kinds, actually). The person behind the counter was able to answer all of my questions (I ask a lot) and then some. If only I could give zero stars! Facts are my puppy came home with lots of fleas, ear mites, yeast infection in ears, coccidia infection and then tapeworm showed up. Moreover, I paid the price for a Maltese, but it turned out to be a maltipoo, he looks a lot like a poodle now! Though my puppy is so sweet and we all love him, but really don't like this place. If you do get one from here, make sure to have the vet check everything I mean everything. What's even worse is my puppy came from a breeder called Susan Franz, after I did some research found that she runs a puppy mill and warned several times by USDA! So the puppies in this stores are indeed from puppy mills!!! Please be cautious! I'm glad I rescued my puppy though I paid quite some money. read more

I usually never write negative reviews, however I was treated SO HORRIBLY that I had to say SOMETHING! My 12 yr old daughter and I passed by the store and saw PUPPIES and immediately made a U-turn to go see! When we walked in, no one ever acknowledged us. One guy that I assumed was an employee or manager was speaking to someone else. I dismissed the lack of acknowledgement, and proceeded to the puppies! We gawked over the precious pups and decided to see what the rest of the store had to offer. As we walked by the fish, the same man that was talking when we walked in, passed us on the way to the restroom. He rudely shouts to my daughter and I, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" ...His tone caught me off guard and I responded, "looking at your fish!" As he closed the bathroom door, he again rudely said," Well we've got em". After a couple of seconds, I realized what just happened...and got upset. NOT ONCE did ANYONE say, "Hi...welcome!" nor were we EVER even acknowledged! The floor by the fish was wet, and as we were walking out of the store a cute little puppy that was on a leash next to the counter was taking a dump on the floor! I DID NOT have an inviting, welcoming experience. I WILL NEVER spend my money at a place that condones such rudeness!! I will also make it a SPECIAL POINT to make sure that all of my family and friends, and THEIR family and friends know to NOT SPEND MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT. read more

I live in Round Rock and it is a pity that I have to drive all the way to Austin to go to ZooKeeper for pets. Partners isn't a bad looking place, its a small pet store located right off Mays and close to Gattis, a very convenient location for me. Unfortunately the owner is a terrible human being that lacks any social skills and uses his size to intimidate people. If he doesn't have what you are looking for, he'll aggressively tell you that you don't know what you want, or you aren't serious about purchasing an animal and wasting his time, ask why are you being so picky, or some other high pressure sales tactic that belongs on a small time used car sales lot rather than a pet store. As others have said, the prices are on the high side, which is fine, I'd rather pay a little more than drive all the way to 183/Anderson, but after three different times over the years dealing with the owner I just don't want to give him my business. read more

Rude! I called ahead of time to ask if this store had puppies that we could hold. I mentioned we were on our way over. They said yes. We got there and it was a different story. The same person I spoke to on the phone said we could only hold them if we were interested in buying the specific puppy. Then another person (I'm assuming an owner) came over and took out an adorable little Yorkie and was playing with him right in front of my 6 yr old son. My son said, "Aw, he's so cute. Can we hold him?" The guy just flat out said "No. You have to buy him," and continued to cuddle with the puppy right in front of us. If that was the case, I wish they would've just told me over the phone instead of leading us on and then acting rude to my kid. I could've saved a couple of bucks in wasted gas. read more

Bought a puppy from this place for $399.....found out this puppy was sick with a respiratory infection (with a horrible cough, due to untreated kennel cough, per my vet) an open fontanelle (opening on skull-development), and a crooked nose (probably due to bad breeding) when I took him to my vet. I told the pet shop owner of my sick dog, he refused to pay anything for my vet bill (which cost me $600 with chest X-rays), and said I should have taken the puppy to his vet that he uses (like it was my fault), but offered no restitution except 2 cheap bags of dog food. Definitely not a trait of an animal lover if you ask me. This place disgusts me. The way animals are caged so in adequately, the horrid smell when you walk in (you'll get a headache after a few minutes), and the staff that don't care about the animals (which is what they portrayed....from my experience) but not to worry.....never again. I bought a puppy that was 3lbs at 4 months old....not really a puppy, just looked like one. The owner didn't even know the age of the puppy, he thought the dog was around 8 weeks.....WRONG...until he looked at the paperwork (you should have saw the shock on his face)....definitely priceless. The only thing im Happy about by walking into this shop was that i was able to save a puppys life, that was so close to death (per my vet again) I'm glad I ended up saving this puppy. I do not recommend buying anything from here. They are a ripoff for their quality of merchandise. But if you want to try them on for size...go ahead. No air conditioning in store, dogs in cages with no water in their bowls. The bowls in all of the cages were bone dry, and the animals looked very uncomfortable. The owner didn't seem to care. I am appalled by the state of this pet store. I went to look around because I heard they had hedgehogs. I adopted a hedgehog from a breeder a few months ago and spent several weeks learning all about their complicated needs (temperature must be above 70 or they can go into hibernation and die, solitary animals who need to be kept alone or they can fight and kill each other, nocturnal animals who run up to 3 miles a night on their wheels, and naturally unsocial animals who must be handled every day or they'll regress to untamed, grumpy, spike balls). So I was curious to see how Partners was taking care of their hedgehogs. What I found was that they are not. They keep about 20 hedgehogs together in one small aquarium - half the size as is acceptable for just one hedgehog. They are piled on top of each other for lack of space and from trying to get to a safe place. There is no place for them to hide, no heat lamp, no wheel for them to exercise on, and when I reached in (aquarium has no lid) to see how they react, it set them all off - popping up at me with their quills up in fear and defense. Several of the hedgehogs had injuries on their faces and ears, and one had a quill sticking through its ear. Not to mention, they are more expensive than the baby hedgehog I got from the breeder - a hedgehog who loves to cuddle and is perfectly socialized. The mice are kept in similar conditions, crawling on top of each other because they don't have space. Overpriced "designer" puppies are kept in small windows, walking on wire grates which they get their legs and paws stuck in. The whole store is filthy. Overall this just seems like a terrible pet store. The only thing they seem to care for well is the fish - if they only sold fish and fish supplies it would be a different story. After reading the terrible reviews here I am kind of shocked. I have been coming here close to 10 years! I have had a healthy ball python, healthy ferret, and healthy baby turtle from Partners! (I would take everything if I could!) I've got all my heating supplies, food, and even gravel here! My mom has used Partners to even test her water from her koi pond. If I ever need any information I can always ask the staff for help. I have never had any issues :D read more

Hilarious that anyone would think this is a great pet shop! We have been there 4 times. Each time we have gone in the guy running the shop seems very egocentric & a bit rude, but friendly enough. Most of the conditions for the animals don't seem super clean, but they are animals so... First we went in to check out turtles to which the man behind the counter that a lot of information, but he was really trying to sell us everything under the stars to go with the turtle (tank, special lights, rocks, food, etc.). We went home and did more research, bought all the stuff needed for about a third of the cost and then went back a second time to actually purchase the turtle. Would have bought from him, but it was very pricey! Second experience was fine, we went in to actually buy the turtle. The guy at the store sold us the turtle, but again he told us all the things we would need, but we told him we already had everything and he proceeded to tell us that most of the turtle die because people don't buy everything needed. Understood. Peppermint (our turtle's name) lived for 2 years and then one morning we came in and she was dead :( Third time, just went in to buy another turtle about 3 months later, basically same experience as first and second. The guy didn't seem to remember us at all from the last two times being there. We bought our second turtle and went straight home to put in tank with other turtle and this turtle was very limp, we put the turtle on the rock in the tank, it raised its head and then died! So sad and we gave it a proper burial! Fourth time in the store, we were looking for a new pet! We saw a very frisky fun dog and asked the guy behind the counter to see the dog (puppy) and he smiled and said only buyers can hold dogs and laughed. I smiled because I thought it was a good joke, he started to wipe off some petting area and then said, everyone in here today is just trying to hold the dogs and doesn't want to buy them and then I said, well how do I know if I want to buy one if we don't hold it and he literally just walked off. WHAT? Who tells a customer that only buyers can hold puppies/dogs, do you have to put down a deposit or something? CRAZY! We just walked out and he didn't seem to care at all. We didn't say anything about it because first the prices were about $900 each and second because he didn't seem to care anyway if we stayed or left! Listen we love mom and pop stores, but this is one that we will NEVER go back to. We really hope that the guy at the store can find some less rude personality traits! We tried obviously to keep coming back, but we won't go back there now for sure. read more

This place is horrid. DO NOT go there under any circumstances. Okay so my partner and me walked in about 10 minutes before closing and the man working made continuous comments about how we shouldn't have come so late. He was playing the comments off as jokes but it made us extremely uncomfortable. He "joked" that he was going to kill us.... yeah. The animal's living conditions were just awful. It was dim and disgustingly dirty. The poor puppies were playing with their own shit and the fish tanks were not suitable for anything living. At most pet stores the cages for the rabbits and guinea pigs are left open so that you may play with them at your own free will. The cages at this store were open so I picked up a bunny and the horrible clerk walked over to me and said "do you want to hold one?" I was confused because I was holding one already. I asked him what he meant and he replied in the rudest possible tone and said," do you want to hold a bunny? Because you didn't ask." I proceeded to walk out of the store. The clerk told my partner that I was upset and waiting outside and that I needed to chill out? Sorry for the tangent but it truly can't be overstated, THIS PLACE IS AWFUL. After telling my friend about my experience she confessed to me that her mom had the SAME EXPERIENCE!! Something seriously needs to be done about this place. CLOSE. IT. DOWN. read more

Got my precious baby at this place a while back. I will always be grateful to Partners for providing my family and I the greatest joy we could have hoped for. I don't think the owner is cruel- he may just need to get a bigger space someday- there sure are a lot of animals in there! But the owner is not endangering any of the animals there from what I can tell and he's very knowledgeable. My dog has always been very happy and healthy. Yes I am a real person, yes this is a real and honest review, and yes here is a picture of my dog, Prince. (He's the smiling Cocker spaniel with the turtle toy) I personally think there are many horrendous cases of animal cruelty and this just doesn't seem to be one of them. He has made sure to never be in violation of any laws. And of course, changes and upgrades can always be made. But there's no reason to call for an immediate uproar and close the place down without first providing feedback and suggestions first. It's locally owned- so less hoops to jump to recommend some suggestions to the owner unlike giant chain stores. Why do people think it's ok to take action and ask questions later...? My family and I absolutely love coming here To visit the puppies. I am truely disgusted at the people who are talking down on this place and are trying to shut it down! My sisters and I enjoy coming here and the owner is more than happy to allow us to pet the puppies as long as are hands are sanitized which he provides. Sure the cages are small and it could be bigger, but they are always small breeds and don't last long there because how quick people will buy them. I speak by experience. We got our first pug here and he is very knowledgable about the pets, they have their shots up to date and come with their certificate of family history to prove they are pure breeds. Dumbledore our pug was the most beautiful pug we have ever seen and he was healthy. This owner cares about the dogs and has told us his story about his own disabled dog he rescued at a shelter and helped the dog to be able to walk again. The cages could use more comfortable bedding, but like I said they don't last long there. Stop judging this place and owner if you have not been there multiple times or have got to know the guy! this is the 6th time I have been in this store the first time was great but after that it went down hill there are dead fish all over the tank the owner is a smart ass when you ask for only 10 feeder fish but what brought me to write this last night I went in 2 girls were at the counter I was in the store for 15 min neither of them took the time to lift there head I asked 3 times for help they blew me off and to top this all off there was a babie stroller in the back I didn't think nothing of until I walked closer and one of the girls at the counters kid is sitting unattended 30 feet away from her the child needed a diper change you could smell it please use a better pet store for the love of god Petco or petsmart would be a better choice read more

I go to this store often. Weekly even. I have bought many varieties of animals from puppies, turtles, and salamanders. All of which are STILL alive. The owner, Adam, is always a very pleasent person and always approachable. I have sometimes 5 kids with me, 11, 9, 7, 7, and 3. Never once has he gotten "annoyed" with having them in his store. I have refered at least 4 people to him and all of whom have purchased his puppies. None have died or been sick. He isn't a "puppy mill" buyer and supports local people who just want their litter in a good home. Hate to say it people, but if your puppy gets sick it's not the store owners fault... its genetics. Kennel Cough? PLEASE! Don't your children get coughs from being in day care or school? It's called being a responsible parent/pet owner and getting them through it. Try getting serious about owning a dog and get them pet insurance. The same thing you do for you own children, right? Breeding small dogs is tricky and sometimes it's just not meant to happen. Another question to think about... I have read some of these awful reviews from other people and relized that possibly you have never walked into a pet store in your entire life? Do farms not smell of animals? Do you think the zoo doesn't stink when your close to their habitat? The reason "pet smart" or "pet-co" doesn't smell is because they only sell FISH and REPTIELS. CAGED ANIMALS! They do have adoption sometimes available too, but still... animals are not purfume bottles! They stink. Take a crap in your bathroom and see if it doesn't smell pecuilar. Just sayin. This is the first pet store we checked out when we moved here 4 years ago, and have continued to go back. We have bought several turtles, fish, a crab, and a miniature dotson, Marley here. Any turtle questions I have had the owner has always been able to answer. The staff has always been sweet too! Marley is and has always been healthy. Baby macaws are born without feathers and as they begin to grow in (like pretty much any bird) they look pretty ugly... I love Partners. I am NOT a supporter of breeders, always adopt a dog, but I go in for the fish, not the puppies. I have a beautiful 85 gallon aquarium and partners has alwahs given me beautiful, healthy fish. I have an adult siamese algae eater that is gorgeous and amazing, and an adult angelfish that is magnificent. My angelfish has urged me to get more, I am going to center my tank around them, so I went back and bought an amazing adolecent angel, oure white. I will be returning in a few weeks for another in a different color. The staff are helpful and kind to me, there is an amazing selection of healthy and beautiful fish. read more

Would never purchase from here or step in this store again. The animals are in poor living conditions. The puppies in particular are in dirty cages without any bedding, food, water or toys. They only get towels. I'm not saying whether the puppies are from puppy mills or not (even though I'm pretty sure they are). There are rabbits, gerbils and birds all crammed in cages together. The worst pet store I have ever visited. Immediately upon walking through the door I was struck with a very fowl and pungent odor. I walked straight to the dog section and saw quite a few malnourished young puppies stumbling on wire crate floors. Moving foward I then noticed a sickly baby macaw in a very small cage. There was a handmade paper sign that read "I'm a baby blue macaw. Don't worry I'm not sick, I'm healthy!". Then my attention was caught at the mice cage, with a small mouse with a rather large flesh wound being eaten alive by two other mice. It resembled a scene from a movie such as Resident Evil or I Am Legend. My roomate brought the situation of the mouse to the owners attention. The owner said "Yeah, they do that", and walked away with neglect and carelessness. I then headed towards the reptile section when I saw a large monitor lizard in a glass cage which looked to small for him to even turn around. After a mere 3 minutes of being in the store, I rushed to the exit with disgust. Lastly, upon my exit out of the corner of my eye I saw a cat eating a mouse which was still alive and twitching. I'm curious if it was the same mouse we had mentioned to the owner about, or one previous to our arrival. I will never return to this pet store and I hope that I can prevent others from having to witness this for their first time. Please avoid at all cost and do not contribute to this type of facility. If I could this place zero stars I would. I left there feeling very sad, and wishing I could do something to help the animals there. The puppies were in small cages, with no food or water or beds. The poor little poodles were filthy and were so thirsty they were CHEWING on their water spouts. No water was coming out though. The rodents looked sickly and the cages were very crowded. There was a sickly looking rat laying on his back desperately trying to get water out of the spout, but it was empty. When my 12-year-old daughter told the girl who was working, she just said it wasn't time to water them yet. What does THAT mean??? If the water is empty, it's TIME TO GIVE THEM WATER!!! This place is a disgrace and should be shut down. It's dirty, the employees acted like they didn't care about the animals, the puppies probably come from a puppy mill. Stay away from here.
