I don't want to tell you that he walked her through every little step and made her feel comfortable with not only the cleaning (thank you Jocelyn!) but then with two cavities feels in one setting! I don't want to tell you that the front office staff is professionally and warm (thanks Lexi!) and make you feel comfortable even if you have difficult tooth extractions and such ahead of you! His secretary took my card to her office and thats how they got the digits. I have been dealing with an abscess for about 4 months. At the urge of my wife and our friends, they said "you better go before it becomes an issue, what you are experiencing isn't normal". I called Pasadena Smiles phone number which from being in the industry figured was an after hours call center. I was shocked when the doc (Dr Vincent Spero) answered the phone directly at 11p at night. He said "I'll text you the address, come see me tomorrow morning at 8". I figured it was one of these "puppy mill, churn and burn" practices, but was shocked again come Saturday at 745, he greeted me with a handshake and proceeded to handle the beginning steps of the new patient intake process before his assistant Jocelyn took over. I went up and up from there. Turned out I needed an emergency root canal. He knocked it out in 37 mins, no pain, with camera and photo footage explaining in detail what he had just done. Did I mention "no pain", once more for good measure, "no pain." I am blown away, honestly. By far the most ethical provider I have ever met. Went in for my appointment, spent an hour taking and reviewing my x-rays - and I let the nurse know I don't have insurance in CA and would NOT be spending any additional money at this office besides my Groupon - and the doctor racked up so many things that he wanted to do BESIDES the cleaning. He says he can't do a "regular" cleaning and I need a "deep cleaning" which is $998 additional to this Groupon! AND THOUSANDS of additional dental work that I know I don't need, including removing all 4 wisdom teeth! I left very angry, and the doctor called me from his personal phone (weird) and said "don't be mad at me!!!" like a child. Insanity. Scammy, so sales-y. I came to Pasadena Smiles and never smiled. I came for a teeth cleaning 2 months ago. To put it short, this place is just looking for quick money by deceiving customers into thousands of dollars in unnecessary work. I was told that they couldn't perform a routine cleaning on me because I needed a "deep cleaning" (aka periodontal cleaning) and needed numbing with a shot with some local anesthesia. Plus I apparently needed wisdom teeth pulled, a root canal (for a tooth that I felt ZERO pain with), and 4 cavities removed. After an anxiety filled conversation with Dr. Spero about how awful my teeth were, the bill came out to $4600 and all I came in for was a teeth cleaning. I left feeling awful and hopeless. I went to a different dental office a week later for a second opinion. Turns out, I didn't need any root canals and only had 2 minor cavities. They also performed a REGULAR teeth cleaning with ZERO numbing and anesthesia in less than 25 minutes. I never needed anything dentist Spero tried to tell me I did. I cannot believe a doctor wanted to perform so much unnecessary and harmful work (even local anesthesia) to my young and strong 25 year old teeth for a quick money grab. This place is the EPITOME of the scammy American dental industry and is exactly why so many Americans are hesitant and distrustful towards dentists. Dr Vincent Spero is the best! My daughter had an infected tooth and he was the only doctor who agreed to see her the next day even though I was calling on a Sunday. He called me back, patiently heard and responded to all my concerns and told me to bring in my daughter early in the morning. And to my major surprise, she just loved him! Neither my daughter nor me like to go to dentists and part of the problem was that she'd refused to go to children's dentists for so long that one day she just woke up with a swollen face and infected gums. When we got there he spent hours patiently talking to my daughter, going over each step and each tool step by step, explaining how things work and how he's gonna fix her teeth. It was an unbelievable experience! He was able to completely get that fear out of her and now she just loves going to get work done on her teeth. We're done with everything and it's been months already, but she keeps asking for a visit, just to go see her Doctor! That's such a great thing for me as a parent to know that she trusts her Doctor! After seeing the care and support my daughter got there, I also got all my dental work done with Dr. Spero! He did a really great job on me. We both are done already and I couldn't be happier with the results! Dr. Spero is very knowledgeable and respectful, he wasn't pushy and would let you take your time every time you needed. I had an extremely painful toothache last Saturday evening, and knew I wouldn't be able to make it until Monday. I did a quick search and found Dr. Spero at Pasadena Smiles, and gave him a call. He was able to get me in on Sunday Morning at 7AM, and took complete care of my situation. I was terrified that I would need a root canal since the paid was so intense, but turned out to just be a teeth grinding situation that was causing the pain and a higher than normal crown from a prior dentist that was causing the pain. Dr. Spero adjusted the tooth that was causing the problem, and within a day, the pain began to decrease significantly and continued to feel better over the following three days. Honestly, I am so hurt I don't even know where to start. This is honestly one of the worst experiences I've ever had with any practitioner or business in my entire life. I used to come to this office many years ago with his wife and now I understand why I've never seen Dr. Spero. Firstly, I recently went to another dentist who gave me an opinion on a treatment I needed to get done. I wanted to get a second opinion, so I called Pasadena smiles to make an appointment. Dr. Spero spoke to me on the phone and told me that he was all about wanting to help the patient, listening to their needs, and working with people on prices. I come to the office Monday morning and the secretary and x-ray technician are wonderful. As Dr. Spero, comes to diagnose my teeth, I saw a swear word during my speech and he harshly tells me to not swear in his office. Pardon me, but I am an adult paying money for these services. His demeanor is harsh, cold, and very arrogant. Unfortunately people like this really affect me, I actually started crying from his being so mean to me! In my 28 years, this has never happened. The doctor proceeds to me I need 4 crowns on teeth that need have no decay or cavities (just small craze lines). At this point I don't feel respected or cared for as a person or a human being. I leave the office, still very upset with no thank you, consolation and viable options. I walk back into the office and tell the front desk that I was displeased with the service. I just wanted to provide some feedback to the business. I stated that I was unhappy with my service and I feel like I did not get my money's worth for the exam I paid for out of my own pocket. My demeanor was very calm, and concerned. My voice was trembling a little because I felt so used for money and unheard. The doctor comes out tells me he will call the police if I don't leave. LITERALLY I am a totally calm customer, just giving feedback on a poor service. He then says, "give her her money back," reaches into his wallet and THROWS $100. I CAN NOT EVEN MAKE THIS UP. Review for Dr. Spero: After searching for emergency dentists one Friday evening, Dr. Vincent Spero's name popped up and I gave him a call. Long story short, my wife was having a very bad toothache and was in need of multiple root-canals, one of which caused her 8/10 pain and made the left side of her face look like she had one too many fillers injected. Dr. Spero acted quickly and came up with the best course of treatment for her (also one that likely saved us a ton of money) and booked us an appointment first thing the following Monday. Unfortunately, my wife was not able to make the appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, but nonetheless, the treatment that Dr. Spero provided her helped tremendously and we are very thankful. I had an emergency dental procedure with Dr. Spero while visiting LA. He answered my call on Sunday morning and took me in right away. He was very transparent about the procedures and explained clearly the cause of my pain and what needed to be done. The whole procedure was done with clear explanation every step sharing photographs of the area taken with a medical camera. He was extremely communicative and answered all my questions. I had a terrible toothache one night from the root canal I had done LOOONGGG ago and needed a quick next day appointment. Can't believe there's such thing really lol but Pasadena smiles came to my rescue and saw me the next morning. I was in like 10/10 pain. Cool guy Dr. Spero laid out the truth that my root canal tooth cracked in half and had to be taken out. Without insurance was gonna be difficult but I couldn't stand my pain no more. I did the unthinkable and just had it extracted right then and there. FELT nothing. The 2 shots was painless but the third one I must admit felt like I got sucker punched but needless to say when he told me he was done taking out my tooth I'm like huh?!?! PAINLESS!!! Technology these days are so great. Dr. Spero and his assistants are friendly as well. Customer service is top notch. They're not too serious which intimidates me less and maybe that's also why people hate going to the dentist or doctors. Dr Spero saw me super quick and brought so much relief to the worst tooth pain I have ever experienced. My previous dentist in Santa Monica put a crown on a molar 3 weeks prior, despite my having a bad infection in the root of the tooth (unbeknownst to me). On Memorial day, I woke up to excruciating pain, which I nursed with over the counter Motrin and a antibiotic prescription, while searching for a dentist nearby that I could see. Dr Spero was able to answer my call on Memorial Day, even though he was out of town for the holiday weekend, eased my nerves over the phone and set an appointment for first thing in the morning today. I came in late (had a terrible time sleeping last night) which the super nice receptionist did not scold me for, and was able to be seen right away. Dr Spero talked me through everything, going through the different scenarios we may find after x-raying to see what was happening with my tooth. The tooth had to get extracted due to a bad infection that my previous dentist somehow missed, which made me so nervous I thought I was gong to faint in the chair. (I've never had a tooth pulled before and literally have nightmares about this). The payment was very clearly laid out to me by the sweet receptionist (no hidden fees) and Dr Spero was very patient with me, my fear and nervous chatter. When it came time for the extraction, it was over before I even realized it and did not hurt AT ALL. I came across Dr. Sparo during an emergent need. I thought he would be a good fit because I informed him of my past dentist trauma and he had been understanding. I brought my son along for his care during my follow up, it was a huge mistake. First day impression was good but then his motivation became apparent (money). I thought since I started the work there I would have to continue. The price kept changing and by that I mean kept going up. The office was not transparent and I asked for a breakdown and I was informed it would be emailed but it was never sent. Before the follow up my son received a text message and it displayed a different price range, when we arrived at the office it went up by another $500. Of course it made no sense and I asked why it was going up I asked for an explanation which I think it's a valid question to ask, they could not answer right away and I was the one getting the attitude from the staff. Dr. Sparo was sitting next to the front office staff (Jennie) and he looked upset and that's where it all changed for the worst. His frustration became apparent when questioned about prices and he lashed out on me. He started yelling at me, he belittled me and was extremely rude. When he was done yelling he walked away I was left in shock and emotional. I was upset that I had been treated horribly for no reason and I started crying there was no valid reason to be treated the way I was. I had to go back and request all records to be transferred to a new dentist because who would trust someone who has anger issues and takes it out on a customer for no apparent reason. He said I was rude which I was not I was frustrated with the lack of transparency and no explanation. I did apologize to Jennie in case I had come off as rude but I would never raise my voice at someone. I treat people with respect the way I would like to be treated. If you have self respect find a dentist that knows how to treat you with respect that you deserve and has staff that is professional. Also, beware of lack of transparency for cost. Update, I took my son to another dentist to finish his work and to my surprise the cost was over half cheaper than with Pasadena frowns (smiles). The dentist did a great job on my root canal. Had a partial crown placed by another dentist. After the procedure the gum got swollen and tooth became infected. Dont be fooled. This place seems highly rated and a nice facility. However, my first visit had many red flags. I chose this place out of convenience and will be returning to my home dental office for the following reasons below. 1- They misplaced my appointment and lost my information. I called and gave them everything over the phone two weeks prior to this visit. They claimed to have it again once I filled out the new patient paperwork. Go figure, of course they would have it again after giving it to them on the spot. 2- The work was very uninformative, no showing of your mouth or teeth during the cleaning or by the actual dentist during the work that I fucking paid for. No proof of my cavity before a fucking procedure to fill in a cavity I never saw. I should have just left before believing this dentist. 3- I feel this dental office just sucks up to patients and scams them into procedures that may not be necessary and further red flag by giving no proof for the procedure being needed. They will of course gladly let you pay for the procedure to which you were shown no proof of needing. I will be getting my xrays that they took here and going back to my professional dentist, even though it is inconvenient for me to keep going there. At least they will explain everything and dont make it feel like your just there to spend money. Nor mishandle my appointments. I will also get the procedure examined if a cavity really was there. I have never had so many red flags at a dental office before. Just keep in mind, never pay before asking proof of needing a procedure. I kept it to myself and now I'm out of pocket $88 for a cavity, when I had insurance! Stay away! *update* I was able to recieve credit for the charge with my credit card company, thank goodness! The cavity filling is now a sensitive area that I can't chew hard foods with. I can't wait to have an examination at another dentist to fix this tooth now. read more

My experience with Dr. Spero and his team at Pasadena Smiles was amazing ! Dr. Spero is extremely kind, patient, and knowledgeable. His whole team working with him where all very professional and polite at all times during my visits in the office. Before I got in contact with Dr. Spero I had severe swelling in the left side of my jaw from what I later came to know was an infected tooth. Because of this pain I wasn't able to sleep comfortably for two whole days. Eventually the pain ended up being so bad that I had to search for a nearby dentist in the middle of the night. I was so lucky to have found Pasadena Smiles and have a conversation with Dr. Spero in the middle of the night explaining to him my situation. He was so kind to not only open his doors to me the first thing in the morning but on a holiday weekend as well. When I got to the office Dr. Spero numbed me then proceeded to take X-rays. He did a root canal and also made sure to clean my tooth very well after taking out the nerve. I was then prescribed medication to help cope with the pain. I did have to go back the following day to get a tooth extracted that had unfortunately gotten infected as well. Every time I had to visit Dr. Spero I was fully confident that I was in good hands.
