Went to Paseo for a brunch last weekend, if I had to pick one thing to have over and over again from this place, it would be the Mama's Cochinta Pibil - the pork is soooo soft and succulent, and paired beautifully with the beans and their fresh masa tortillas. The downside? They only give you three tortillas for all that meat! (I had to pay the $6 for 3 more, but so worth it - probably the best fresh made tortillas I've ever had). The Queso Fundido we added pork belly and chicharon - to be honest it was like one chichiron broken over the top and was lost in all the flavor. The crispy pork belly? I'm not sure, I've never had the dish before and I can't differentiate what should have been there and was the added crispy pork (I didn't taste anything crispy). It came with two slices of bread and again.. not enough vessels for the queso. We didn't ask for more bread (or chips would have been good) but the BF used his waffles as a vessel and there was still leftovers in the bowl (more bread, please!!) BF ordered the Paseo Waffles - he was not a fan. The duck was tender enough, but he felt that the sweet potato puree and the tamarind glaze was not a great match together and was a miss. This was also served with brussels sprouts that were HUGE. If you have brussels sprouts this big, please please please quarter them - even halved they were the size of golf balls. Overall, a good visit. My kiddo got some plain waffles which he was quite fond of eating while he watched people pass by from the balcony upstairs. This was delicious Mexican food and it's from a Michelin starred chef. However, what it's really shown me is that Madre, an Oaxcan restaurant in Torrance also deserves a Michelin star; food from Madre edges Paseo out by a hair and comes as a steal! Paseo is one of three related restaurants opened by Chef Carlos Gaytan (Centrico and Tiendita) in the Downtown Disney area. It's located on the second floor and their footprint is quite large. Without further ado, here's what we ordered: Guacamole - haas avocado, tomato, cilantro, onion, lime, serrano, tortilla chips $18 - lime forward, not too much garlic, light, refreshing and spreadable, not too thick. Unfortunately their chips were on the oily side, not a fan. Pulpo Enamorado - roasted octopus, tuna aioli, salsa macha, pickled vegetables $24 - the octopus wasn't overdone and tasted like it was roasted in garlic chili oil. The vegetable "salad" is pickled, has tang to it, peas, carrots and potatoes. I enjoy acidity and didn't mind it; it reminded me of mashed potatoes but pickled. Mama's Cochinita Pibil - pork shank marinated in guajillo pepper and homemade pineapple vinegar, slow braised in banana leaves served with black bean puree, pickled red onion habanero salsa, corn tortillas $39 - the pork shank falls right off the bone, and the pineapple vinegar brings beautiful brightnes to the dish, as does the pickled onions to the pureeed black beans and the habanero salsa. Clearly this was my favorite of the evening! The corn tortillas comes 3 to a container and looks to be a mix of 3 different types of corn (or at least color wise)! Esquites - local fresh corn, epazote-garlic aioli, chili powder, lime juice $9 - the corn was sweet and has a light avocado crema on top that wasn't queso heavy. The inside is modern and stylish, with big windows and a cool upstairs patio that gives you a nice view of the area. For a 4.5 star restaurant, the group I was with was highly dissatisfied. I don't like giving low ratings, and I really try to find the positives, but this place just didn't cut it for us. We were a large group (10 of us in all), so we really did try to have some patience and understanding regarding our experience, but for the cost of this Downtown Disney dining experience, we really expected more from this place. The Good They got us seated reasonably around our reservation time. The guacamole was decent. The Mediocre The service was "eh" ... Jorge did make sure that our water glasses were full, and was the only one who had a smile and made us feel like we weren't an inconvenience. The Bad The bathrooms were disgusting. Use some of your profits to pay someone to make sure they are clean. The prices were out of line for what was served. Most of the waitstaff seemed like we were an inconvenience until it was time to settle the bill. For a Mexican restaurant, the selection was abysmal at best. They upcharge $5 for a senior citizen to order off the kid's menu. This would be understandable if they increased the portion size by even a small amount, but that's apparently not how it works. Not that it affected the food, but they didn't even have the little table lights where we were seated. The Ugly Long wait time for the food. Like exceptionally long. Most of our food came out cold (seriously) to lukewarm (at best.) The overpriced drinks - a $6 soda for a child??? Serving sizes were considerably smaller than other high quality restaurants. That would be fine if the food was good and the prices were adjusted. Would I ever go here again? Absolutely not. Would I recommend anyone go here? The pork shank of course was the star, and all of the condiments and tortillas were delicious as well. It's really nice to have food of this quality at Downtown Disney so that you can take a break from the parks. Disneyland food is great, but food at a restaurant like this is on another level. My brother in law ordered a kids burrito since he wasn't too hungry, there was a $5 up charge since he wasn't a "kid" which was ridiculous for the tiny portion. Located in downtown Disney. I came here alone after a solo Disney day I had checked online and it was giving me a late reservation so I decided to walk to the restaurant and see if they had any openings luckily for me they did and I only had to wait about 30 minutes. Which I spent at the bar upstairs drinking a glass of wine looking at the menu my bartender was amazing. When I finally got seated, my waiter took really good care of me. I decided to go with three different appetizers no main course or dessert. I did get an Agua Fresca after my wine and it was worth it. For my first appetizer, I got the queso fundido. I don't know why I do this to myself every time I go to a Mexican restaurant, but I wasn't too happy with it. It's hard to get it right. I can tell they use great ingredients. The cheese had a good kick to it. I think it comes down to the purée. I'm not a fan of restaurants Wanting to purée everything. It had a mushroom topping, which was good and a very delicious bread that came with it. I just wouldn't get it again, but if you are new to queso fundido I think you would enjoy it if you really like a strong cheese flavor. The next thing I got was the tlayuda. I gotta say this was delicious. The Oaxaca tostada with the puréed black beans and all the meats on top was perfection. This is what a Mexican tostada from Taco Bell wants to actually be.I know the comparison is crazy, but that's what my peasant taste buds can compare it to. What I'm trying to say is it's a definite must get. Last, but not least what I actually came to this restaurant for, and walked my butt all the way from the Disney entrance to the restaurant through downtown Disney after a long day of Disney exploring. I need texture. I'm sure they're delicious so don't let me deter you from trying it And that was my experience. I do wanna go back. I need to try the main plates. I heard someone getting the lamb. Birria lamb is a big deal for Mexicans. So that would be interesting to try. It can be really gaming meat. Anyway, I think the vibes were really nice. The atmosphere was great. I saw all the foodie influencers on IG talking about this spot, so naturally, my friends and I had to come. FOOD: OKAY, I'm a daughter of Mexican immigrants. Don't come here after Disney. We were seated late for an 8PM reservation on a cold, intermittently raining night. The hostess led us to a -- freezing -- balcony patio. More than half the tables inside were free, so we asked if we could sit inside. She looked me straight in the eye and told me "no, we're too busy." Okay, sure, maybe they had 830 or 9 seatings, I get it. But, Nope. We sat outside in the wind with a panoramic view of the increasingly empty dining room until 930, by which time the restaurant was nearly empty -- amd the check-in hostess downstairs had moved her podium inside, because she was cold, too. We were well dressed and polite -- but came with (well bahaved) kids after being at the park all day. This restaurant is beautifully designed, and I was immediately drawn in by the gorgeous atmosphere. They specialize in Yucatán-style food. The menu is a bit on the smaller side, but they offer both small and large plates with a larger seafood selection. Our waitress was the sweetest and made the experience even better. The food was delicious and delicate, each element on the dish carefully and meticulously crafted. We enjoyed our dishes, but obsessed with their tri-colored homemade tortillas. That is a must-try. 1000/10! My friend was looking for a restaurant after a long day in Disney. We found this on the map and were intrigued by the ratings and the Michelin's star. The service was great, we have to reschedule our reservation and there was no problem changing that over the phone. The only thing to note is the staff might not have put it on record after the switch so the front desk was not notified about the switch, but we had no problem getting in. Food was excellent and the price was fair as well! Everything tasted amazing especially the truffle beef tartar and the chips and guac, they have my whole heart‍‍. They are a must try for sure! The three hostesses I met were all very efficient and personable, though I unfortunately didn't catch their names. One of the few places in the Disneyland Resort/Downtown with Dr. Pepper!!! May or may not have influenced the overall star rating. If you have a reservation at 4pm when they open for dinner, you will need to stand outside until they wheel a hostess stand outside. The sun outside definitely impacted the comfort of the visit, though it was beautiful once inside. Additionally, since so many tables are seated at once it floods both the servers to grab drinks and floods the kitchen with orders. This resulted in a fairly long wait for receiving a drink and food, though I was fairly patient since I left extra time before jetting off to the airport. My server was Alyssa was super friendly and even let me know the Chile Relleno can be made vegetarian upon request. Appreciate that level of care! There are a surprising late of vegetarian options, and not one entree that is vegetarian by nature. Likely won't return unless I see a menu revamp, but I can see others who eat pescatarian or omnivore that would enjoy this place. I have eaten there and the food was way better and the drinks too. We were the first to be seated, as a separate line was made for those who had reservations. Everyone was really friendly, attentive and our waiter was amazing. It was our first time dining here and we weren't sure what to order, we based most of our order from what he recommended. We ordered: ceviche, guac, elotes, Cochinita pibil, chile poblano and two drinks. We were pleasantly surprised by the taste and we can confidently say everything surpassed our expectations. We ended up paying around $200 which we found reasonable based on our entire experience and how great everything tasted. We got the queso dip for starter and chips and guacamole the queso dip was ok but the downside is they give you this tiny chunk of bread to go with it which isn't enough to even eat the dip and then it's not cut and you definitely need a bread knife to cut since it's hard and we had to ask since it wasn't provided. The guacamole was good but tasted a bit acidic. As far as all of our meals again good but not great I did like my breakfast burrito but it came out cold. With all the different meals by family had we just thought there would be more flavor. The bigger disappointment was the service we came for brunch with a reservation and it was not packed at all and our server was difficult to locate she didn't really check in with us we kept having to ask other servers passing for help with little things like a knife or napkin. Also she was just very bland no personality she was more of an order taker than an actual server felt like we were bothering her. Drinks were on point the punch and the maya tai hit the spot. Food was ehh. Carne asada NY STRIP was good but the potatoes that came with it were hard and not that good. Beans and rice had good taste. Tortillas were money but good. Short rib my wife ordered was good. The small plates were great. Duck Tamal was spicy bit good flavor. But the tetela was the star of the show. Kids meals were bad. Mac and cheese was horrible. The steak and frites didn't come in time and was rushed to make. Chicken tenders was the only good meal from that night. Floor manager did a great job. Spoke Spanish and I let him know about the Mac and cheese. Reservation at 9pm. Place didn't look busy. Impressive on every level! Paseo is an amazing addition to Downtown Disney, offering high-end restaurant vibes without the stuffiness and dress code. I love the Spanish-modern decor, it feels like you're in Tulum. We had a reservation on a Tuesday (late afternoon) and were greeted by friendly staff and seated immediately. There are indoor and outdoor options, cozy booths, large booths, and standard tables. Our waiter, Rudy, was amazing! Probably one of the best waiters ever. He was so friendly, attentive, and got everything out to us super fast. I look forward to visiting again.
