Stopped by here for dinner while on a road trip upstate. It's really close to the Courtyard hotel. We could have actually walked. A Yelp check in earns a free appetizer of arancini (rice balls with tomato and mozzarella). Four balls were in one order and were presented well in an interesting dish. Outside was delightfully crisp and the inside was soft and creamy. I think it would taste better with a bit more cheese over tomato in the ball. The marinara sauce was well seasoned and brought the arancini to the next level. I had the NY strip (medium) for my entree. A large thin slice of pecorino cheese and two slices of tomatoes drizzled with balsamic lay atop of the steak. Steak was well seasoned, tender and enjoyable all by itself. The tomato was fresh and juicy and complimented the pecorino well. Both of those eaten with the steak enhanced the experience. Red sangria was standard and refreshing. The carafe was a while liter and was filled with more wine/juice than ice and fruit. Plenty for the three of us. Tiramisu was in a short glass and was a bit too sweet. It also had a loose texture than what I'm used to. The Bomba is a large peanut butter ice cream bonbon cut in to 4 and drizzled with caramel. It had a strong peanut flavor and smoothness that made it very enjoyable. There was a rewards program available, but I didn't join since I'm not from the area. Service was excellent. Came here on NYE 22' with my in laws and some friends. Service was great and our waitress was attentive and nice-this is why I'm giving this 3-stars. The food, there isn't really anything that defines this food as Italian other than sauce and pasta. The calamari was extremely over salted, and the marina was lacking any flavor. The Gamberi was ok, but I don't know why they leave the tails on all of their shrimp dishes. You cannot properly clean and de-vein them with the tails intact. I ordered the FRUTTI DI MARE dish, the sauce wasn't remotely spicy and had little to no flavor, and again in a pasta dish, why do you keep tails on the shrimp? My wife and mother in law split a white pizza which was mediocre, and my sister in law got penne with "vodka sauce" which tasted like weak marina diluted with cream. Everyone had left overs but none of us wanted to go boxes. read more

Had a pretty good meal here but nothing spectacular. We were served bread and water quickly. Everything else took a long time. We had: arancini- very very good! Olives- with pits :( Bolognese- I did not care for this; it reminded me of hamburger helper. SO thought it was "okay" Veal sorrentino- this was tasty and I enjoyed but $36 for 2 small medallions is a very high price point. I enjoyed that the server freshly grated cheese at the table but also proceeded to cover the table with grated cheese. I also noticed that there seems to be one cheese grater and multiple servers waited to be able to serve their tables. This probably contributes to the waits and all in all the time spent there was over 2 hours and we did not have coffee or dessert. Pasta Pane opened about two weeks ago in the former Applebee's at Shoppers World, open daily at 5PM for dinner. Pasta Pane is owned and operated by DZ Restaurants, who also operate Forno Bistro and Chianti II in Saratoga Springs. This open concept restaurant looks nice and the atmosphere inside is modern and rustic with nice decor, dim lighting and candlelight. The some of the overhead lighting are real lit candles. The bar area is the center surrounded by tables and there's a wine wall too. The menu offerings include pasta dishes, wood fired pizza, salads, appetizers, grilled entrees, and desserts. They also offer daily specials too including hand stuffed tortellini and grilled salmon. There is no kids menu here, but some of the entrees can be ordered in smaller portions. The prices here are moderate and fair, most entrees in the $8-$19 range. Pasta Pane offers a Raising Dough program for local non-profit organizations in the community and 30 percent of the proceeds from select entrees are donated to the recipient of the month. I had dinner here last night and arrived here just after opening 5:10PM. The place was moderately busy, but I was seated immediately. The service started off very professional. The host pulled my chair out as I was being seated. The general manager walked around welcoming diners at each table. The waitress went over the specials and I placed my order quickly since I already knew what I wanted. There was also dedicated person for bread and house water, who did a decent job keeping things full. The bread was really good, soft inside and very firm outside, dipping into olive oil & balsamic vinegar (pour yourself). I had two refills on the bread and constant refills on the water. I started out with Polpette ($6): meatballs, tomato sauce & mozzarella, which was pretty decent. The meatballs were on the rubbery side though and the sauce was tasty. They did sell out of the Polpette. I also ordered a Bomba ($3) which was a large pizza dough with a big air bubble in the center and topped with garlic and olive oil, great for dipping in the tomato sauce from the Polpette. The service was pretty good, until a rush of diners arrived around 5:30PM and the place became mobbed with a line out the door. Appetizers were being passed out around the crowded bar area and for people waiting for a table. The kitchen became overwhelmed and the main entree took a while to come out. The waitress apologized for the wait. One small note, the waterboy cleared my appetizer dishes and also took away all silverware including the clean fork and knife. I had to request another set of silverware from the waitress. For the entree, I ordered the Ragu Casareccio ($13) which had al dente rigatoni, tender braised short rib ragu, tomato & parmagiano cheese. The waitress also offered sprinkled grated cheese on the pasta. This dish had a rich taste and it was pretty good. This dish was very similar to another dish I had at an Uno's back in NH a few months ago, which also had short ribs, but with paparadelle pasta, vegetables, in a rich wine cream sauce. Since the place was crazy busy and I had enough food, I passed on the desserts, which are priced $6-$8. The check for one came out to $23.54 with tax and before tip. The waitress was quick to process my payment and get me on my way. Overall, the food was pretty good and the service still needs work, especially handling the high volume of diners. Just had the best fish I've had since Periyali in NYC. Amazing quality, preparation and presentation.

We went with a large party of 13. It took a long time to get the food, but was a nice time. Was a bit odd to have bread at the table and only EVOO and balsamic vinegar with nothing else... no salt and pepper, no butter. I like home made bread with olive oil and balsamic, but always put salt and pepper, red pepper flakes and some rosemary. Would be very easy to have a shaker with some added herbs. Anyway, we had a good time, but was VERY loud and hard to hear. Place wasn't that big. For almost an $800 bill, would have been nice to be in a side room with a bit more privacy. Food had HUGE portions... too big. Appetizers too were unusually large. The issue is the $30+ per plate would have been better at $15 with half the portions. The Fruity Di mare was good, but usually served spicy. This was NOT spicy at all and I would not get it again. The menu reads "extra virgin olive oil in a light spicy tomato sauce with herbs". When you have a light sauce, you have to pump up the spice if you want it spicy and that wasn't done. From the other 12 people at the table, two of us got the same dish and agreed with this comment. Visited Pasta Pane for the first time for dinner on a Friday night. The place was packed! Interior is surprisingly cozy and rustic. Food was okay. Free bread when you're hungry is always nice to start. We had the calamari for an appetizer and a few different pasta dishes. Portions were smaller than expected, and I felt like the price point was a little high. I would like to try the pizza if I come back again. Service was very good and ambiance is great for a date night. Would give it a shot! read more

Wife and I went for dinner last evening. I like the fact that it's a family owned restaurant which I think contributes to their quality control. The food is very good, nice flavor and hot when delivered to the table. Only drawback, it took 1.5 hours from sit to exit. I'll preface my review by saying that I am just not a pasta girl. There are occasions when a simple bowl of pasta and sauce hits the spot but it's pretty rare. Pasta Pane, though, is so much more than it's name! My husband and I love this spot. Now, HE is a pasta guy. I've tried almost everything on the menu that isn't pasta and is an appetizer (I don't typically go for the entrees because after the apps and bread I can't make it very far and I need room for dessert; typically I'll do a salad.) My favorite appetizers are the arancini (perfectly crispy on the outside with excellent flavor), the calamari (super light breading), and the Gameri (so flavorful.) I also LOVE their gazpacho in the warmer months, it's delicious! I have definitely tried the vodka pasta, as well as the nicolina and both are wonderful. (I think I prefer pasta with a different sauce other than red so maybe that's why.) Everything is always presented so nicely and the quality of food is great! Their desserts, though, are my FAVORITE! All of my favorites on one menu: creme brûlée (perfectly crisped on top and made very well), molten chocolate cake that's wonderful, and my ultimate favorite which is PB gelato with caramel in the middle...covered in chocolate. THE BEST! I also appreciate that they offer New York wines in their selection, I just had a red blend from the Millbrook Winery which was great. My only gripe, and I've never had this issue here before, was a dressing overload on my salad last night. I ordered the insalate pane: prosciutto, ciabatta croutons, cherry peppers, blue cheese vinagerette yadda yadda...what more can you ask for in a salad? Well, my salad was swimming in dressing. I tend to like more dressing in my salad so for me to say this was too much was bad. We were on a schedule and had plans after dinner so I didn't send it back. Don't get me wrong, the flavor was great and the quality of ingredients were so fresh but it was drowning. I hate to take away a star but hopefully next time I'll give it to them because I really do enjoy this place! read more

My wife and I were regulars and ate there almost weekly. Our last dining experience was very disappointing and we won't be rushing back. I'm not a meat eater, and had regularly ordered the eggplant rollatini appetizer as a meal, with a side of pasta and a house salad. There is no eggplant dinner on the menu, and the appetizer is large. On our last visit, I was told that the restaurant no longer would serve sides of pasta with appetizers, and it would have to charge me an additional $15 for the small bowl of penne in marinara. I declined. We quickly finished our meal and first round of drinks, declined to order anything extra, and left. An Italian restaurant that can't serve a small bowl of pasta at a reasonably price when you are spending close to $100 isn't a restaurant that I will patronize. read more

Went for dinner last night. Wed, 9/22. The Shift Manager was dismissive and condescending. Not sure how she ever got a job in the SERVICE industry. She was clearly out of her element. Another diner was watching her behavior and noted it as well. Rest of the staff was great. Food was great. Once we got away from the Shift Manager, the evening was great. I recommend this restaurant, but the General Manager may wish to train his Shift Manager about what SERVICE means in order to avoid another review like this. read more

Our first time coming here. Co-workers recommended the Brasato ( pork shank). We started off with some happy hour appetizers. Muzzles in garlic sauce it was okay, few shells empty. The calamari was lightly breaded it was nice it needed a little seasoning. The arancini was good. Lastly the Brasato the meat falling apart from the bone. It was good but it lacked the wow factor. We were hungry for some dinner and decided to stop at this restaurant that was close to the Marriott Courtyard hotel we were staying at. Pasta Pane offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Since it was a little humid, we decided to stay inside. We were seated at a table not to far from the bar. The inside had a very rustic but industrial look. We started off the night with a carafe of red sangria that gave each of us about two glasses each. It was very fruity and sweet. We checked in with the Yelp app that gives you a free appetizer of the chef's pick of the day. The free appetizer was the arancini fried rice balls with fresh mozzarella served with a side of marinara. The rice balls had a nice crispy coating with a a melty cheesy inside. For the entree I got the brasato (red wine pork shank with polenta. The pork shank was so big. It was so tender that the meat fell right off the bone. It was also very flavorful and rich. The creamy and smooth polenta was a nice contrast to the pork shank. For dessert we all decided to share the bomba alla nocciole and tiramisu. The tiramisu was a little on the sweet side for me. The bomba was pretty much a tartuffo (ice cream covered in a chocolate shell). It was a nice end to a delicious meal. We would go back again if we were in the area. read more

We have previously dined at the bar and this was my second experience seated in the dining room. The server Juliana, Jules, struggled with many points of service and was not attentive. We realized the dinner was going down hill when she attempted to serve us a bottle of wine. It was evident she did not know how to use a corkscrew and told us she had to borrow another servers corkscrew that evening. After several minutes of removing the foil and wrenching the cork she poured me a huge glass. My gf who ordered the wine did not receive the first taste. We asked the server for a side of ice THREE TIMES. Eventually I had to ask the bartender for a side of ice. The death stare that the bartender gave me when I asked her for assistance was so icy I got goosebumps! We ordered the arancini ,ceasar ,and pollo pane. The arancini and ceasar were served together and both were delicious. Wish the ceasar was traditional and served with anchovies. About five minutes after receiving our appetizers the entree arrived . We were seated at a small two top and there was no room on the table for the entree. Needless to say the pollo pane was cold by the time we finished our appetizers. I don't recall seeing Juliana until the very polite busser cleared all of our plates. We presented the server with a coupon to apply to the bill. An extremely long time later she returned to the table asking if we were all set? We just looked at one another wondering if Juliana even remembered we asked to pay 20 minutes ago. What this restaurant lacks in wow factor, it makes up in consistency. We have visited the place many times while living around the area and it was usually because we were never sure where else to go and no one person could make up their mind. The food and service here are always fine, and the prices are in line with other restaurants in this class of upscale feel, but mid level delivery. Gnocchi, pasta, specials have always been good. Veal dishes I would also recommend. They have a nice desert of Italian style fried dough which is made in house and is nice and warm and original. This place is also fairly kid friendly. I would not sit with them around the bar, but the outside and back dining areas are fine. A lot of people want this place to be some beacon of Italian cuisine, but it is a neighborhood restaurant designed to be consistent and satisfy as many as possible. read more

This would be one of those reviews I'd love to .5 star on but it's not an option. So it's really a 2.5 star review but I'm not quite ready to give the place 3 so I went with a 2. Came here last night. I wasn't going to after reading Ian's review and his comparison of the dish he had to Pizzeria Uno, but I like the other DZ restaurants so I figured I'd try this one. First impression? It looks like every other DZ restaurant. Low lighting, candles, steel, etc. Would be nice to see something different but I guess that's not going to happen. It's not a bad looking place, it's just been done before. It's quite trendy for upstate NY so it's got that going for it. Host/hostess stand. Chit chat, then chit chat some more and then finally after the guy in the sweat pants leaves we get asked how many in our party. I guess sometimes networking builds a good resume and not skill. He should have said to Mr. Chatty "can you please excuse me for a moment while I take care of the people waiting". Unfortunately our party size wasn't enough to get a normal sized table, just a tiny one. The kind where you can't have an appetizer and a meal on the table at the same time and they have to shift things every time something is put on the table. Waitress was very friendly and helpful! She described everything and gave her honest opinion. She was never gone for too long and checked in us frequently. In other words she did her job and did it well. The service here was better then I've had at the Saratoga restaurants.. except for the blonde girl who works at Chianti, she also does a great job. We started off with the calamari. I love calamari and get it whenever I see it on a menu. This was the saltiest calamari I have ever had. I was with my daughter who has a heavy hand with salt and even she said "it's way too salty to eat". I think the kitchen should try things before they send them out when a place is fairly new. Most people probably just look around and think "I'm supposed to like this, this place is cool" and eat it. We shoved a lot of it under the paper it came on, sunk some in the sauce and barely touched it. If I were to order it again, I would ask for them to go light on the salt. For entree's we both had the special. Which was salmon encrusted with Italian breadcrumbs and topped with a lemon, garlic aioli. This would have been fantastic had it not been overcooked and dried out. I've never had salmon steam when I've broken it apart and the ends were crispy. The aioli was wonderful though. The potatoes that accompanied the dish are the roasted potatoes you get at Forno or Chianti(the older or the newer one) and usually I love them. but they were also dry. I didn't bother trying the spinach. My daughter said her's was good and that was good enough for me. We skipped dining in for dessert. The little one took home a tiramisu and said it was her favorite part of the meal. The menu is small, and that's fine but I would have liked more options. Only one steak dish, one pork dish, no carpaccio(which is fantastic at Chianti), no risotto, and limited sauce options. The bread was good, the olive oil is great and they have table-sized bottles of Saratoga water which is nice. The crowd was mixed, a lot of family's, some tables of people fake laughing too loudly and riding high on their egos, and other tables of people that looked like parents on date night. I'd go back but only because it's not that far from me. However, I'd wait until things in the kitchen get a bit more fine tuned. read more

I actually ate here twice this last weekend - on both Friday and Saturday evenings. We were staying at the nearby Hampton Inn (hockey weekend extravaganza!!) and this place was close enough to walk to. On Friday I had the pizza with prosciutto and arugula and it was delicious. My husband had the Frutti de Mar and the boy had a kid's pasta dish. The next night, we went again, mainly because we could walk over (and had already had a few drinks at the hotel) and because my husband wanted some of the pizza I had ordered the night prior. We had another couple with us, and while the service was slooooooowwww (we waited almost 35 minutes between the one salad our table ordered and when the meals were served), we were not ignored. The waiter came over a few times to apologize for the backup in the kicthen and the manager apologized as well. It wouldn't have even been a big deal except the kids (8 years-old and 3 years-old) were starving and grouchy. The manager should have maybe comped our drinks or something but she did bring over a free dessert. By that time though, we were ready to go. The kids were still grouchy but now they were also tired. I didn't order any food that second night, as I was planning to just pick off everyone else's plates. I had some of my sister's pasta and some of my BIL's pasta and a few pieces of bread with olive oil. I did have several galsses of Super Tuscan wine. It's really too bad that I got so freaking blotto that when we finally left, I forgot to take my purse with me. And I didn't realize it until the next morning. And I had a 1pm train to NYC to catch and the resto didn't open until 4:30. Fuuuuuuucccck. I wrote a frantic note and stuck it to the door at Pasta Pane and hoped for someone to come in early and call me. And Ryan did. I got my purse at 12:15 and was able to catch my train. Happy ending! I am usually very picky when it comes to Italian food, but Pasta Pane gets it right. My girlfriend and I ordered a carafe of Red Sangria and the Arancini to start with. The drinks were perfectly balanced and refilled by our waiter often. The app had just enough rice to keep it together while still melting in your mouth. I finished with the Vodka pasta with pancetta. It was heavy handed on the pancetta but was still salty and creamy. Our waiter took an extremely long time getting our bill however. So long, that another couple came, ate, and paid before we even got the bill. read more

Pasta Pane is described as a "rustic Italian bistro," and is just one of several restaurants owned by Restaurateur David Zecchini (probably most well known for Chiantis in Saratoga). All of his restaurants are Italian themed, but each offers it's own original take on Italian cuisine. Pasta Pane is described as offering homestyle Italian meals that are more moderately priced than some of his other restaurants. As we arrived at the restaurant I was skeptical at first. The outside looks a little like a tacky chain restaurant, so my hopes for a true Italian meal were crushed, but because I was so hungry I kept my mouth shut and prepared for the mediocrity. As soon as we walked inside though I was impressed - the decor was homey, inviting, and seemed to have a nice bar scene. As we perused the menu we aggressively fought over the bread, and tried to decide what we wanted to eat. My mom ended up going with their three-course Harvest Menu, and I obviously went with a large bowl of pasta... wasn't even a question. My mom decided that she would try the Harvest Menu, which features seasonal dishes for the shocking price of just $20. To start, she decided to order the Rape E Formaggio, a roasted beet napoleon, goat cheese, arugula and tarragon vinaigrette with toasted sesame flat bread as her appetizer. My mom really enjoyed this appetizer, surprisingly since she didn't realize it had beets in it. Did I mention we were blinded by our hunger? I really loved the contrasting color of the red beet with the white goat cheese, and although I'm not sure I would describe these as "napoleons," they did remind me of red velvet whoopie pies. The tang from the arugula went nicely with the earthy sweet flavor of the beets. For her main course she ordered the Ravioli Con Zucca, butternut squash ravioli in a sage, amaretto, and fontina cream sauce.This was very yummy, and just the right portion because the dish was on the heavier side. In fact, I could almost describe this dish as sweet not savory - it fit nicely with the "harvest menu" theme. For my main dish I ordered the Granchio, which was capellini pasta, sauteed crabmeat and shrimp, extra virgin olive oil, garlic and fresh herbs, in a light tomato sauce. Overall this was a decent dish, although as someone who loves pasta like I do, and someone who was at a restaurant with pasta in the name, I was slightly underwhelmed. Pasta Pane has about eight pasta dishes on the menu, half of which are penne. I was hoping for more homemade pasta, and more of a variety. Regardless, the pasta was cooked nicely, but the sauce was a little oily, and the crab didn't taste fresh. Although the shrimp was cooked properly, the tails were left on which made it more difficult to eat. All that being said, I was starving, and it still hit the spot. Finally, for dessert, my mom ordered the Zeppole Con Miele, which is Italian sugar doughnuts served with apple cider honey.This dessert was actually really well done. The doughnuts were warm and fresh, and the cider honey went very nicely with it. I wish I had saved more room for the dessert, but I would absolutely recommend ordering this! Despite some of the restaurant's shortcomings, I still think I would come back. We went there for the first time tonight and we're not too impressed. The atmosphere was excellent, very Italian, and the staff were dressed in black, typical Italian restaurant appearance. I will say the staff was very attentive to the table at first but as the place filled up, it appeared things changed. A busboy asked us if we wanted more bread (which was very good) and we said yes, it never came. We started with the Calamari which had a light batter and was tasty and crunchy. We both ordered the Pollo Pane, described as Tender breaded chicken breast, diced tomato, basil, arugula, melted mozzarella and fontina cheese. It sounded so good my mouth was watering, what was delivered to the table was fantastic in appearance, but I found it to be very blah in flavor, my wife ate hers, not saying a word, but to me, it was not at all flavorful. We ordered linguine with marinara sauce, again I felt the sauce lacked anything that I would run back there for. My wife did say the sauce was like a jar of Ragu, the plain one. I'm sure there are people that would love the place, it was full, but we won't be back. read more

Competition can suck it, this place has got some class. A Small Italian bistro that's Big on flavor, atmosphere. This place. Vodka pasta looked amazing, and tasty mmm mmm get in my mouth so good. Paired with there Arnold Palmer. Absolutely fabulous. Service with a smile, greeted me like family. Overall best food experience. 100% recommended and go back. Business casual to people rocking jeans. The bar was not too loud. Everybody was enjoying themselves. The decor had some rustic Italian industrial contemporary. Love it. On recommendation from my coworkers, I went for the Bolognese and I was not disappointed. It was incredibly creamy and rich, with a good size portion that was a task to finish. (I ended up taking some home, but reheated it just wasn't the same!) Enjoyed some great appetizers including the calamari, the focaccia fungi, and bruchetta. Relaxing atmosphere, if a bit loud, with plentiful attention from the waiststaff to ensure we had enough drinks. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Loved the atmosphere and The coziness of the Restaurant. We even got to sit outside. Very pleasant service. Attentive. For appetizers we had calamari with spicy marinara. Very good. Was also had a margarita pizza. What we got was pizza with a few cuts of basil. Nothing to write about here. My husband and I got the veal saltimbocca. 2 small medallions. Even smaller spinach, and purée butternut. Small and lacked the deep bocca sauce. My daughter ordered the penne ala vodka. Huge bowl, small pasta. This I never really understand. Pasta the cheapest thing to make. At 20.00 a dish I would expect a 1/2 a pound of pasta. Not 1/4. Lacked the richness too. Dessert was good. The fried dough was good. Our first time there last night and we thought it was excellent. Priced nicely. Good wine and the food was excellent. The only criticism is the tables are a little close for comfort and it is very noisy. We definitely will be back though, but i'll probably stick to sitting at the bar since we were so uncomfortable at the table. read more

The LOUDEST restaurant I have EVER been to, including a rooftop bar in Nashville! We came for a quiet, nice dinner as a family to celebrate my husbands birthday. It's Wednesday evening. You'd think they could handle a week night. NOT THE CASE! There was a wait to get a table (we weren't told how long), the hostess didn't even say anything just made a face and mouthed "follow me" when we were finally to be seated. Or maybe it's just SO LOUD that we couldn't hear her! It took over ten minutes to order. Taking even longer, waiting on our food, and it is so loud we can't even talk! That's okay, everyone else compensates by drinking and yelling over each-other! For $20-35 a plate, I expected a nice, quiet meal to celebrate. Instead we are miserable and cannot even enjoy each others company. What ever happened to sound absorbers? There are also issues with the seating and spacing, which barely meet the OSHA regulation. People can't get past eachother and you have to make sure as you walk that you don't accidentally bump into not someone's table, but someone's food! The food is marginally good but overpriced for a horrible environment. Don't come here!
