As usual, the food was really good. The bread here is a meal in itself, warm and delicious. Clearly they are short staffed. Our waiter was lovely and very efficient but that couldn't make up for the fact that he had too many tables tonight. The tables for two are quite tiny and cramped. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming but for an intimate dinner for two, it's quite noisy and hard to have a conversation. I think next time we will get take-out. read more

Overall I would call it "average at best". Not that it was horrible, but it was just okay. The waitstaff was excellent and very attentive. I will say, I was shocked how packed this place was for a Wednesday night. When I asked for a glass of Cabernet i was told I had two choices one for $8 and one for $12. The waitress told me the $12 glass was far superior and I have to say I was not disappointed with the wine. I only wish I remembered the name. I always give my own little test of trying the chicken parm because I figure if that's bad then I know I probably won't care for much else in the future. They actually don't even have chicken parm on the menu, but the waitress said it was easy for them to make so I went for it. The salad was an added cost and it was substantial for a garden salad. The chicken parm was quite large. The one half was good, but the other side was inedible. The rigatoni came as a side and had marinara sauce and it lacked flavor. Following the lead of other yelp reviews, I asked the front desk where to eat (I stayed at the Hampton Inn), they pointed me here and handed me a coupon for a free appetizer (the rice balls, which were delicious). Being a solo diner I went with the Casa salad, which was simple, but very generous, along with the free warm bread, and a half order of one of the Prima pasta dishes. It was just the right amount of food - if I had gone with the full order I would have been leaving half of it behind. The food was very good, absolutely no complaints there. The place was busy, but not too loud, and my server Brian was attentive and helpful. The food came out at a good pace (I hate it when you're eating your salad or app and they come out with your entree). All this and a glass of good red wine was $30, not including tip. During a time of great sadness at the sudden passing of our brother, Pasta Pane hosted the bereavement luncheon following the service. It was outstanding - the servers were all so very nice, the food delicious and the venue perfect!. We all needed a place to sit, talk, reminisce and break bread together. My wife and I go here for happy hour all the time. Their drink special is awesome. Definitely not watered down like the other places around. Their appetizer happy hour special is a tapas-like experience. Get a bunch of different things and enjoy for super cheap. Got their Monday takeout special. The Pomodoro and the Bolognese. Both were incredible. Everyone absolutely loved it. The staff is excellent. Super kind, knows the menu well, and keeps the water topped off. Prices are very reasonable. Exterior of the restaurant considered typical American comfort style yet interior is totally unexpected with rustic feel. Crowded on a friday evening especially full house at the bar counter. Do note that the happy hour is only applicable at the bar counter and first-come, first basis. Was given free bread to start off. I love this place, and the decor is awesome too!! The food is really good too. It's not that loud, or crowded. I don't know what Stephanie in that other review is talking about. The pizza is out of this world. And they have really good side vegetables. They once had asparagus with a fried egg on top, wow. Even my picky eating husband loved that. For a Wednesday evening this place was pretty packed. Clearly looks like a local fave for drinks and a meal with friends. We were greeted and seated fairly promptly when arriving. Our server wasn't the friendliest and didn't seem super observant with our table but maybe she had a rough day. The guy who was in charge of filling waters did his job well. My friends and I ordered the pasta special which comprised of linguine pasta, mussels, shrimp, kale, chorizo, in a red sauce. It was good. Wanted to update my perception/reality of this restaurant. My wife and I had scored a sitter and ran to Clifton Park to do errands and enjoy a dinner out. We got here early so it was only beginning to fill up. The service was great - almost annoyingly so. Water was refilled so often that it felt like the server was dining with us. Perhaps a water glass that holds more than 4 ounces would help! The food was fine - prepared properly, hot, and as described. Very slow between courses which didn't make any sense because the place was really not that busy yet. The calamari was fine - just nothing noteworthy for a $12 app. My wife's salad was fine. Her entree of chicken in a wine???? sauce with mushrooms was fine. The sides were cooked albeit a little tasteless, but the texture of the potato and beans were fine. My entree was a thin crust oven baked pizza - fine. The problem I have is that just under $60 for two people, one glass of wine, seems like a lot of money for just fine. Maybe my first post here was influenced by the newness of the place, but we'll be exploring elsewhere when in CP again. read more

Pasta Pane was recommended to me by a respected colleague, so despite some of the mixed reviews here, I decided to try it with a friend who was visiting from out of town. I'm sorry I did. The place is cute and was very busy for a Tuesday night. That's where the positives stopped for us. The server was not very friendly, I dare say even rude, as she spilled a cocktail onto my friend and didn't apologize or offer to clean it up, she just wiped the table with her bare hand and then rubbed her hand on her pant leg. My friend had to ask for a napkin to clean the spill off her leg. The service was slow, she never checked on us. It took nearly 2 hours to for dinner and we only had entrees, no appetizers or dessert. As for the food, it was just OK but not good enough to make up for the poor service. read more

I am giving this restaurant only 1 star because when an error is made they do not appear to have the ability to correct the mistake at the waiter or manage level. When the hostess placed the wine list and menu on the table, they did not make a distinction that some of the specials were for the bar only. So I ordered the wine special thinking it was only $3. When I received the bill, I was charged $12. I mentioned this to the waiter and he said it was a bar special only. I stated that it was decieving because he brought these specials over with the dinner menu. Neither the waitor nor the manager would correct this issue which to me is not a good indication of a restaurant that is willing to please the customer. I have been to Pasta Pane twice now and I have to say it wins for atmosphere and tastiness. There are a lot of chains in CP and Pasta Pane joins Wheatfields and Bellini's as a non-chain, slightly more upscale dinner option in the area. I have to admit my first reaction was, oh great, there's yet another Italian restaurant in the area? How is this one different? I don't think I can answer that question as fully as I'd like to. While they do have a limited menu, what I've had so far has not disappointed. On different visits I've had the bruschetta del pane, the pasta alla vodka, and the ragu casareccio. I highly recommend the latter if you like braised beef ragu--to die for. The only thing that counts against PP at the moment IMHO is the overall crowdedness and the seating arrangements. Instead of booths or tables against a wall where people are sitting back to back, there are a lot of side-by-side tables, which means you dine right next to strangers, and have to avoid their gaze and listening in on their conversations. I am generally not a fan of this type of seating because of the lack of intimacy, but there really aren't any other types of tables in the place. There's barely enough room for your server to slip between you and the adjoining table! After a few glasses of wine, I was less bothered by this, but if you are there to converse over your meal as I was, it can be annoying. I went there last week for a leisurely dinner with a friend, and people came and went on either side of us at an alarming rate, so that by the time we left two hours later, no less than four other couples had come and gone in the time we'd been there. Our server kept coming to 'check' on us, politely of course, but nevertheless I vaguely felt like they were trying to turn the table over. Since the prices in this place assure me that it is not in fact a fast-food pizza joint, I didn't appreciate even the slight feeling of being herded through dinner. If this place wants to stay on top, they need to figure out a way to make the dining a tad more intimate, instead of packing as many people in as possible. I get that most of the suburban eating public probably wants to eat and run, but a place with great ambiance and food like PP shouldn't ruin the overall effect with a McDonald's-style, cattle-herding seating arrangement. The environment at Wheatfields or even Bellini's is much more relaxed, open, and accomodating. And Wheatfields has five types of gnocchi. read more

As a diner, Clifton Park for me is a vast sea of despair. Nothing but chains and strip malls as far as the eye can see with few exceptions. With this in mind, my husband and I decided to try one of the exceptions last night, Pasta Pane, on the recommendation of a friend who owns a liquor store in CP. It did not disappoint. As seems to be the case more often than not, I finished work late, and on a Sunday on a holiday weekend I figured it would be tough getting a good meal at 8:00. I had been told that Pasta Pane was open until 9:00 on Sunday, so off we went. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was still busy, which I thought was a good sign. We had no reservation, but were seated right away at a small table for two near the bar. The young host and hostess were very sweet. When we sat down, I noticed the table first. Petite with one side a banquette, it was comfortable enough. There was a rustic wooden holder which had olive oil and balsamic taking up a fair amount of space, but I was still happy to see it on the table. I could tell right away that my husband was cranky because it was pretty noisy, but that happens to be his pet peeve. It wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk. We were delivered menus and the server gave us a few minutes to choose our beverages. I ordered a Hendricks negroni and husband got a Merlot. Then side plates and warm bread arrived along with glasses of water. I'm not a fan really of Merlot, husband can keep that, but he said it had a nice body. My negroni was good, if a little small, but strong. The bread was very nice with an airy, yet chewy crumb and crisp crust. Nice flavor. Both of us were hungry, so as an appetizer we chose the focaccia stuffed with mushrooms, prosciutto, and fontina/mozzarella blend. It was kind of like an upscale calzone, but totally yummy, nonetheless. The filling to crust ratio was great. The crust itself was light and less like a football than many similar dishes that I have tried elsewhere, but the best part was the fact that the prosciutto was actually Prosciutto di Parma, and not a cheap imitation. Good so far. For the main course, my husband ordered the penne with tarragon infused vodka sauce and prosciutto. I ordered the veal saltimbocca and instead of Italian potatoes on the side, I requested the soft polenta for a small up charge. It also came with sautéed spinach. We were still finishing up the appetizer when the entrees arrived, however I was not feeling rushed, not quite anyway. As I mentioned earlier, small table, quite small, so when the waiter dropped the dinner plates, I picked up the appetizer plate to make room. When the waiter went to take the appetizer plate away, I gave him the look and let him know that I wasn't finished with it yet. His response, "well, you handed it to me", with a little attitude, was incorrect. I was a server at various places for almost 10 years, I get it, but rule number one: do not talk back or argue with the customers. It didn't win my heart last night, but I'm sure that I may have been a bit snarky and when he took the plate away, I may have reacted, subtly of course, like a hungry bear in heat, lol. On the plus side, Pasta Pane, your focaccia is delicious! I also have to give the guy credit where credit is due, the rest of the service was good, the whole time. And I need to give him a break because he was waiting on a large table of French speaking Canadians next to us, six adults or so with probably 6 smallish children, so he had a lot going on. Now, on to the entrees. They were both excellent. This is a red sauce place, but elevated. I totally appreciate that because there is so much just dismal, heavy, flavorless glop in the Capital Region masquerading as Italian. Husband's vodka sauce was great. It was simultaneously creamy, light, and flavorful. The tarragon was present. The amount of prosciutto was just right and the pasta was cooked al dente. Ample portion size. My veal was very nice, topped with the prosciutto which was not welded, thank you, and a wine sauce. The spinach was good. The star of that plate however was the soft polenta! Creamy and satisfying, with a hint of rosemary. I had a California Cabernet with my meal, which did it justice. All in all, Pasta Pane was an excellent experience. I love to find a place that is new to my radar that I can add to our repertoire. I will definitely return and probably soon. Atmosphere, amazing. The interior is all decorated with warm woods and real flames and exposed metals. Very dark inside, very gorgeous. I'm seeing from other reviews that this is common in restaurants owned by the same company, but I don't mind it. It's beautiful. Our meal was sublime. My husband ordered a Caesar salad that was flavored with exactly the right amount of anchovy- that perfect bitter, earthy, saltiness- and- yay! A parmesan tuile. The olive oil for dipping they have is almost moss-green in color, the bread is crusty and fragrant with rosemary. They have grinders with pungently fresh peppercorns in them at the tables. Because of all of the above I was able to eat the raw tomatoes out of my husband's salad, on bites of the bread crust, like a bruschetta. Which I would not normally eat. Raw tomatoes are the only food I won't eat, but these were delicious. For our entrees, my husband ordered the Pollo Nicola, these butter-soft chicken paillards cooked in this dynamic roasted red pepper based sauce, with roasted shallots and tender root vegetables and wedges of crispy potato. I got the Terra salad, which was fresh greens tossed in a tarragon based dressing with hazelnuts, roasted beets and balls of fried goat cheese. My husband's food was ridiculously delicious, and mine was good, but I felt like everything was the same note, all the way through. The tarragon was earthy, the hazelnuts were earthy and a little sweet, the beets were sweet and a little earthy, and the cheese was creamy but not salty nor tangy. It had a good taste, but there was not much brightness and no pop to anything. Good, but simply so. It needed something. I was thinking blood orange seared shrimp, or lemon zest in the vinaigrette. Or something. For dessert my husband had the cheesecake. It was not too sweet, perfectly lemony. Came with a berry coulis. I had the creme brulee- I had to! Cracking that shell is always a delight. It was just how I like it. Still warm on the top, still cold down by the bottom, and silky through and through. A perfect contrast. I was still full at 1am. No joke. A good amount of food for the price, though the desserts did seem a little steep to me. Service was swift, polite, professional. Felt like a really classy operation. My ONLY complaint was that my husband was never offered a refill for his glass of ginger ale, which I found odd, considering how often the waiter and busboy were both by to check in and sweep away the dishes and refill the water glasses and bread. Recent dinner experience gave me impetus to downgrade. All in all it doesn't disappoint but doesn't overly impress either, which it should. Pasta Pane does provides a nice alternative in Clifton Park and it's always busy, so it's probably here to stay. If I do anything in the future it would first be to pick up pizza. Food- 2.5 Stars. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Scallop appetizer was boring and small. Pan seared scallop with some tomatoes, whooopeee. Special Pasta (egg fettuccine with pancetta) was fresh and light if not a little bland. Not a bad dish but it sounded better than it delivered, it was missing something. Vegetali pizza was good but too buttery (crust) and oily (running off pie). Not sure how you make a pizza with just veggies on it that oily. Service- 3 Stars. Hyper attentive waiter was just this side of annoying. Better than being left with dirty plates for 20 minutes I guess. Atmosphere- 3 Stars. Downgrade from last time because it seemed more cheesy to me this time for some reason. It's a DZ place through and through. Value- 2 Stars. Again I thought given everything it was a shade overpriced. Portion sizes were fine but the meal was a little too much money for the quality we received. The food is good here however some of the menu items have unusual ingredients added which are not necessary and do not contribute positiveley to the flavors. I love coming here for dinner. If you're looking for a more quiet and romantic dining experience I recommend the seating up the small stairs in the back. We've never sat in the other secluded section in the front but I assume that's quieter too. It's hard to not order the pork shank every damn time because it's so delicious and huge. I always take half home for another meal. The chicken marsala is equally delicious. My husband loves their pizzas. They have, hands down, the best polenta I've ever had anywhere. It's so freakin good. Creamy, cheesy, salty. It's everything and I always order it. Skip the brussel sprouts side dish. They were dry and flavorless. The eggplant rollatini appetizer is another favorite of ours. Great red sauce that tastes like my grandma's with a creamy ricotta filling. The zeppole are yummy as a dessert if you have room! Normally I am opposed to eating in sterile strip malls in sterile suburbs if I can help it. But this meal was on the folks. My parents have become big fans of their pizza happy hour. It runs from 4:30-6, and there are $3 beer/wines and $5 pizzas. You have to eat at the bar to get this deal. I was skeptical at best going in. Seeing as how I was going to force feed myself a meal at 5pm. Not really my cup of tea. We got there right at 4:30, but by 4:45 the entire bar was full. A good sign. Two beers and one pizza later, I was a believer. I had two great Saratoga Brewery IPAs, and one mushroom and sausage pizza. The pizza was right on the money. A very generous portion. This is our go to place in clifton park. Good quality food, nice ambiance, and not crazy expensive. Especially like the small plates and the half orders of pasta, so there's room for an app and salad. The calamari is a perennial fave and if they have the pork shank on the menu, GET IT! Have had dinner at the bar a few times and that worked out great. They have a small plates menu and drink specials before 6PM. When was the last time you paid five bucks for a martini or glass of wine? We do the wood fired wednesdays pizza special, pretty much every week, 2 pies and a nice salad for $18, they also have a pasta choice that they added recently for the same price. I went here for a girls night out dinner with my friends. I was happy with the overall experience. You are able to make reservations on Yelp, which is always a plus. The ambiance is nice! Dim lights and candles. A more classy atmosphere than I expected. Perfect for a date or a night out with friends when you want something a little nicer. For food we got arancini (rice balls) for an appetizer. They were delicious. A serving was good for 4 people to have as an appetizer. I got an eggplant and pasta dish as my meal. They had two serving sizes for the entrees (smaller and larger) which I liked. I got the smaller portion for mine. The eggplant was thin and cooked nicely. I can't remember exactly what my friends got but everyone enjoyed their meals. I was slow getting around to Pasta Pane. One of the reasons for that is because I had heard quite a mix of reviews about the place, many of them leaning in a more negative direction. I was conflicted, but I finally decided that I was hungry as hell that evening, and Pasta Pane was closest, so I went for it. I didn't really feel like sitting down and eating there (plus it was pretty busy), so I decided to do a takeout order. They told me it'd be about 20 minutes, so I hung out there at the restaurant and waited for it. 25 minutes passed, and my food still hadn't come out yet. No problem, though, they were busy and I had waited long enough to decide where to eat, so I didn't have a problem waiting a little while longer. A woman came in to pick up a carryout order of her own, and this is where I started to grow a bit suspicious: one of the hostesses brought the bag out, looking at the tag on it with what could best be described as a glance of confusion. She reluctantly handed it to the woman anyway, and said woman left. 35 minutes. Still nothing. But again, it's OK: I'm kicking ass and taking names on Angry Birds, so at this point if they want to bring out the food in about six hours, I probably would have been cool with it still. The woman from before walks back in with the bag, and more confused looks/discussions take place at the hostess station. The hostess takes the bag away, and brings back another one for the woman, who again leaves with it. Now I think I know what's going on: they gave my food to this other lady. I went to the hostess station and politely asked about the status of my food. They apologized and told me it would be out shortly. OK, more Angry Birds. About 15 minutes after that, a bag of deliciously-hot food came out. Awesome. The order was correct, so I took it home and tried it: it was really good. I had decided to try a few things off their menu, so I had a fair amount of stuff to sample from. The saltimbucca alla romana was great, and they packed a lot of food into the relatively small container. Their meatballs were alright. They were a little tough for my liking and weren't anything too flavorful, but I'm also really finicky about meatballs in restaurants so I won't hold it against them. Major props for including good, hot bread with the meal. I'd say the final verdict is very good but not amazing. We were in the area staying at the nearby Hampton Inn. Checked on line for a place to eat and this looked good. The hotel staff was enthusiastic about it and gave us a coupon for a free appetizer with dinner. When we arrived it was busy but not overcrowded. The hostess gave us several seating options - we chose an out of the way table - we were on our way. Our waitress, Victoria (Tori) appeared quickly and took our drink orders - she was helpful with suggestions - my wife had the blood orange martini and I had a local beer suggested by Tori. Both very good! We're pretty light eaters so we got some recommendations from Tori again. Although there were many choices, we settled on a Caesar Salad with shrimp and a personal pizza with sausage. We asked about the free appetizer even though we weren't getting dinners and Tori was happy to oblige. We were given a basket of bread quickly (many places don't give bread unless you order dinner). We enjoyed our wait - the dining room was warm and friendly - the staff also. It was quiet enough to talk. Lots of people were eating at the bar - I commented to my wife that it seemed like a good place for "First Date" - not too intimidating, lots of choices, comfortable seating... Our food arrived soon -the free app was rice balls with marinara and mozzarella. Tori said it was a generous order and she was right; she brought an extra plate for us. They were deep fried, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside - if they were frozen apps, then take a bow, because we thought they were pretty tasty. Truthfully, we would have been full with just that. The Caesar salad was crispy and good - we had asked Tori about vinegar - we often find restaurant Caesars LOADED with vinegar that shouldn't be! I don't use any in mine. A healthy amount of nice sized shrimp was in it. My pizza was thin crust and very tasty - the cheese actually had a good taste. Neither my wife or I could finish our meals, there was so much food. Tori gave us ample attention, but was not intrusive - we enjoyed her very much and when things slowed down a bit we talked for a while. About the only down side was the limited dessert menu, but we probably didn't need it anyway. First and last time here. Inattentive and unfriendly service and overpriced subpar food. Pizza was OK and the aroncini were good but the calamari was chewy and overcooked. The pasta was worse than most store-bought boxed varieties. For what we paid we could have had a better meal at Olive Garden for less. read more

Delicious food, excellent service, great ambiance. The only mistake was immediately made better, and it was a minor error, penne instead of spaghetti. My mom and I had a great meal, some very nice wine, and still had boxes of leftovers to bring home with us. Would definitely go again. read more
