I'm fairly new to the neighborhood and had to come in from the delicious smell outside...It's fair to say that's where the good experience ended. As someone who has worked in the customer service field for over a decade, I think this business needs a good lesson in the field. They treated me as though they were so busy to not even look up. They young girls were just standing around looking bored. When I ordered a few cannolis, they asked if I wanted them in a bag or a box and if I wanted sugar on them. I asked for a box and the genius girl shoved them in a bag. I tried the place a second time to be fair. This time I wasn't given the option of a bag or a box or sugar. I know it sounds silly, but do you really want to pay for something you have to scrape off the edges of a paper bag to enjoy? As for the pastries, they're not worth the trouble. All the hype is just that- hot air. I grew up in Long Island and Brooklyn, you can totally find better goodies without the unwelcoming f-you attitude that this place serves up. So thanks so much for the frowning faces, the miserable attitudes,and the sour uninviting looks. If I wanted all of this, I'd just go to the DMV for the day. PS Cash only. Spent a good amount of my childhood in Howard Beach and this was a staple. Even when I moved to LI and Brooklyn later on we still used this place for special events. My husband is from Brooklyn and very Brooklyn biased when it comes to Italian food/pastries, and even he admits they have the best cannolis and St. Joseph's he's ever tasted! Their butter cookies are great too. If you are having a special event you have to get the pregnant cannoli, it is amazing. I had them at my bridal shower years ago and people still rave about them. Great place for certain authentic italian desserts! They have probably the best lobster tails in NY. Creamy sweet insides of this pastry are almost addictive! Their Napoleon is excellent too! They do a great job with all their pastries along with some specialty cookies that I currently forget the name of but they look a little like powdered golden lady fingers... great with coffee! I can't remember ever having purchased something that I thought wasn't either deliscious or had the proper delicate taste of a casual coffee cookie. The only reason I would take a star off is in my experience the girls behind the counter always seemed slightly annoyed at the presence of customers, or maybe customers that aren't their local friends. I will usually see a random mix of two girls behind the counter who always seemed to have low morale. I have always gone to La Torre Bakery in HB for all of my cakes and Italian pastries, but now they have the most AMAZING cupcakes I've ever had. They have to have over 30 different kinds and they are GIANT in size. I normally get one cupcake for two of us to share but once in a while I'll try to finish one by myself. But this was the final straw, I ordered Moms favorite cake, not a complicated cake, but some of his staff make it seem so! There's an older lady there that really needs to retire, very nasty attitude and I'm not the only one who thinks so! I'm arguing with her while ordering this cake, that she never heard of it, it can't be done, and I'm telling her I have been ordering this cake from them for over a decade ( it's a sponge cake with a layer of chocolate custard, a layer of vanilla custard and rum extract! sounds simple to me!) Anyway she takes the order with a nasty attitude, pick up the cake it was a totally different cake and the filling was cannoli cream!! I was furious!! My Mom turned 80 and was looking forward to this cake, no one ate it because we do NOT like cannoli cream in a cake! I have decided enough is enough, I'm going to find a baker near me with a more courteous staff and ones that follow requests! If you keep losing customers like me you're going to shut down! My family spends a couple thousand dollars a year in your bakery, I buy all the birthday cakes for my company and that alone is around $1,000! Bought an almond paste lamb here for easter and it was bitter. Went to return not looking for my money back just a credit even a loaf of bread and was told that the lamb was supposed to taste bitter. First of all, they are not in Lindenwood - this bakery is in real, actual Howard Beach (this means something to people who are originally from this area). Secondly, those who are put off by the attitude are most likely not from around there. I love the service and the food here. What I like the most is that this place is unchanged from the old Howard Beach feel that used to exist across the Boulevard, before 99 cent stores and cell phone joints popped up. A little tip. Go to this bakery around St. Joseph's Day in March. They make the best St. Joseph's sfinge you will ever eat. They make two kinds - Sicilian and the Naples version. Both great. read more

I come here for every occasion (even though I moved an hour away) for my grandparents favorite cookies.. I come every holiday and the occasional surprise and never until today was I treated badly. The girls are all sweethearts, the food is good but the owner himself is beyond disrespectful and rude. I drove over an hour to get these cookies and they were not in the bag. I called to inform them of their mistake and to try and make a plan to get them and her got on the phone with such an attitude. "We don't deliver... what the hell do you want me to do about it" was his end comments (along with talking over and yelling at me on the phone.. yes me a customer.. a customer... how about just say I'm sorry for the mistake and inconvenience. If you can come back I'll throw a few extras in your box... not that I needed a free cookie but Damnn... would have been a nice gesture after he screwed up the remainder of my day.
