We had a few pasta bowl and as myself, I added chicken and mushrooms for a few dollars and my son had a bowl with poblano sauce, chicken and mushrooms. Delish! Great spot with multiple tables and food trucks! Parking spot is good with disabled parking. Service was great the lady was so nice we felt welcomed! Let's support locally owned businesses!

Came here this weekend for the first time and had the best experience! The food, service, and vibes here are all 10/10. I ended up getting the poblana pasta with chicken and it was phenomenal. Such a fun pasta sauce idea and was genuinely so tasty. The employees were incredibly nice and the food came out fast and hot. The outdoor seating here is also very nice. Would definitely recommend!

On a Saturday night, this place was packed! The line all the way to the gate when you enter, and…read moresomeone was greeting you to direct you to wherever you aimed to be in The Vortex. The person greeting us, even shared some insights for some upcoming shows. They'd be having that seem great to attend. It's fun to have that sense of community being welcomed into the restaurant as soon as you get there! We split up, and I went to grab seats while the other member of my party stood in line. Seating wasn't difficult, and it was well ventilated, which was highly favorable and much appreciated in the heat with missing fans, running constantly, cute ambience, lighting with the small bulb lights, and even bug spray available they make sure that this dining experience was covered on all bases so that you would have a great one. The menus are easily accessible, with multiple copies, being passed down the line, and sitting in the stand as soon as you walk up. However, after hearing about the restaurant online, and taking some time to read the menu prior to arrival, I knew what was on my mind - carbonara. From arrival to ordering with maybe about a 30 to 40 minute wait however, it was worthwhile. The dishes are made to order, with fresh pasta being used, making it even better. We opted for two half orders to share, and that was definitely enough food because we ended up even taking leftovers. We also got an order of the garlic bread with tons of roasted garlic, parmesan, and green onions. While the carbonara was flavorful and what my mind was initially set on, the other pasta actually ended up stealing the show and was what we finished immediately the Leopold had a pesto base and a nice hint of spice even without the peppers (which were taken off in our order). Overall, the most difficult part of this meal was parking, and the fight was completely forgotten after my first taste. They have a small lot, however, if you circled the nearby neighborhood a couple times you're sure to find a place to put your car.

The East Austin location can get pretty busy, so it's best to arrive early if you want to avoid a long wait. The spacious patio is very dog-friendly, and there's an indoor bar right across from the food truck where you can grab a drink or a glass of wine while waiting. There's even a cute cat that roams around, which adds to the charm. The Carbonara Alexandra has always been my favorite. The addition of the runny egg yolk makes the sauce extra creamy and rich, and once you start eating it, it's genuinely hard to stop.

The Pollo Alla Griglia was good but absolutely not worth the money. The salad it came with (I ordered it without tomatoes and cheese) was mediocre and not enough pepper could save it. My favorite thing was the iced tea. I went back for a refill at least 8 times because the unsweet tea was just that good...The focaccia was dangerously good as well and I'm glad I had restraint there. Pros: good for groups, focaccia, unsweet tea Cons: expensive, salad could be better, did I say expensive?

Steve at the bar greeted us in such a warm and welcoming way, he made some spot-on suggestions, and just took real care of us. He made our day very special. The food was incredible, really fresh, full of flavor. The wine and desserts were on point. And the prices super reasonable for the quality. I recommend this place. I'm so grateful with Steve, he didn't know but my mother in law lost her son in April, this day was a heavy one because we would usually spend it with him and this was the first birthday without him. She was so happy after, she just wanted to have a good tasty meal with us and we got 5 start food and service. Thank you Steve and Mandola's Italian Kitchen. We will definitely visit again when we're in Austin.

Overall solid dinner, nice packaging, and decent price for Austin. The great: Cannoli large, firm, but too hard of a shell, tasty chocolate chips on the ends, and fresh tasting stuffing - creamy and delicious. And, great value! The very good: Meatball. Nice size, pork and beef (I think), tasty red sauce. Quite Italian. Good value. The good, but: Chopped salad. Good size, a lot of meat, balsamic was tasty, good cheese, but not a legit chopped salad. Real chopped salad- go to Tony Cs. Pizza - Tasted fine, but too doughy for legit NY style pizza (and, I grew up in NY and get there 2-3x a year). Skimpy on the sausage, but excellent flavor/tasty. Would I order from here again. Probably not, as the non-pizza options are limited and the pizza was just okay.

She was attentive and helpful and refilled my drink regularly. The dirty plates were cleared without me even noticing, so she was good at being non disruptive. The pasta definitely tastes homemade and is so good! I wasn't super hungry so I split a meal with my friend and they had no problem bringing us two plates. Good homemade bread too. By the time we left at 7pm all the tables and bar were full so they do good business. I would recommend this restaurant and would come here again if I am ever in town.

It was just iceberg lettuce with croutons and dressing in the side. The build your own pasta dishes were fantastic! The service was not great however, and this wasn't a unique experience as we've been here before and experienced poor service. Our waitress started out attentive but after our appetizers came, she didn't come back for about 15-20 mins to take our order. Our main dishes took about 30 minutes to come out. Once they did we never saw our waitress afterwards. We waited about 30-45 more mins and then we finally went to go find her to ask for to go boxes and the check. All in all we were there for about two hours, but not for good reason. I think this place has great potential, they just need to better train their staff to be more attentive.

It gets its stars from the overall experience over the past year but it has cut corners the last two times I visited. Tonite I ordered to go, and it was super busy. I asked the nice girl at the front how long it would take and she said 15 minutes. I asked if she was sure about that because if that was the case I would wait for it rather than run to Whole Foods for dessert. She was sure it would be only 15 minutes. Being the son of a NY chef, I try something different and tonite I went with the chicken menchingo and a gluten free pizza. After 45 minute, I had to go to the kitchen counter and ask where my order was. It had been ready and was just sitting there. The bag with the bread was drenched in oil and putting a staple in the bag is the WORST idea ever. The oil caused the staple to fall into the bread and it ended up in my mouth. Come on. Who the heck thinks this is a good idea? (I will be following up with an update tomorrow) Also, the portion on the chicken and spaghetti were like kids portions. I brought this to the attention of a manager who agreed and then started to take my meal with the intent of throwing some more pasta in the same container. This is not acceptable either. I explained to her that unless she was going to cook an entirely new order for me, she shouldn't do this.) if she had offered, I would have appreciated given the fact it sat for a half hour on the kitchen counter) She was nice and said that it sounded like I managed restaurants before and I told her my culinary background taught me well. The reason why you, as a customer, never want them to make a correction after you have opened the meal is to protect EVERYONE else. Suppose I had a contagious illness. That manager, intending to save money on another container, was going to compromise everyone else's health. If she did that with my meal, I wondered if she had been so willing to do with other people's meals. The right thing to do is (a) simply offer to make a second portion and/of (b) make a second container. This is something Mandolas never would have done in the past. Finally, as for the Chicken. Yuck. The meat was overpowered with the cheese and salt, which combined with the time it spent waiting for it to get to me, made the chicken dry and hard to finish. All I received for my concern over the portion was more pasta, which the marinara sauce is just like that of any jar in a store. I never got more chicken either but it would have been a lost cause. The last time I came here the meal portion was small but the quality of service compensated and I do want to point out that the attention to customers is still worthy of another go around.
