We came here for brunch. The place is small and was packed when we arrived. We didn't have to wait to long get a seat. The service here was phenomenal. Very friendly and quick. My wife ordered their Chilaquiles verdes. My son ordered their Crepes with Pecans, bananas and cajeta. And I went with something completely different. I ordered their chorizo skillet. I rarely ever order skillets and this one didn't disappoint. It came with house potatoes, corn, chorizo, onions, melted cheddar two over easy eggs and chipotle mayo. This dish looks small at first but damn that skillet was deep. Definitely a lot of food and very filling. But most importantly it tasted delicious. Fantastic brunch place in Lincoln Square. Known for their Chilaquiles, any breakfast item, and fresh squeezed orange juice. Loved the spinach and mushroom crêpes. Just filling enough! My friends and I came here looking for a spot to eat last minute, but honestly I am so glad we ended up coming here on a whim! Immediately as we walked in, the service was great. The staff members were attentive and friendly the entire time we were there, constantly checking in and making small talk to us. We definitely felt very welcomed and acknowledged since the start. The restaurant itself was so cozy and "home" feeling. Everything was just so vibrant and colorful as well, making you feel very welcomed by the decorations and style of the restaurant. The food was amazing. We all got different items, but my meal in particular was the crepes. They were the pecan + banana + dark chocolate crepes, and they tasted delicious. It wasn't too sweet, and the pecans added a nice touch as well. I didn't care too much for Pastores + Brunch. It's quite small and cramped inside. Not good for large groups. The food was okay, but what I really didn't care for was the service. Our sever wasn't at all friendly and did not allow for substituting sides. I have never been to a restaurant that didn't allow you to substitute one side for another. Of course it can be an extra charge at some places but this server didn't allow it at all. Very strange. She just seemed in a bad mood overall. Judging by the other reviews, I don't think this poor service is typical. Nevertheless, I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this place for breakfast or brunch. If you are looking for a great latin inspired brunch spot, check out Savanna around Western & Montrose or their other location on N Lincoln Ave. It's nearby Lincoln Square and a way better option. read more

This has become my favorite breakfast spot in the past couple of years. Everything I've had is great, but I don't know if I'll ever order anything other than the breakfast tacos and cafe de olla ever again - they're both just that good. The staff is also friendly and thoughtful, from the moment you're greeted at the door till you wrap up and leave. Tanja in particular is an absolute delight and my partner and I are extra happy to see her when we come in, but honestly - everyone here is just really sweet. I kid you not these were best breakfast tacos of my life (and I've been to Texas). And the chilaquiles were some of the best I've had stateside. I will no longer say chicago doesn't have good Mexican food after coming here. Unfortunately the cafe de olla was a bit disappointing. But the horchata was bomb. Also they were super accommodating. Finally tried this place for brunch on a Sunday morning. Even though we arrived at 10 a.m. we had to wait half an hour to be seated, although we were initially told the wait was only 10 minutes. There were some crumbs on my chair and some sticky stuff on my friend's chair, which wasn't great. The menu is extensive. Service was friendly, though maybe a tad slow. I got the strawberry orange juice (good and I loved the straw), blueberry pancakes (very good), and a side of sausage (also very good). The value was great considering what we had. Some hits, some misses. Service was friendly, and two-tops outside were comfortable due to being nicely shaded by the building. My Lincoln Ave frittata (prosciutto, mushrooms, parm) was delicious - the open face omelette was light and fluffy, like a Dutch baby. My husband enjoyed his chorizo skillet, though the potatoes I tried from it were lukewarm and not hot enough, in my opinion. Coffee with cinnamon stick (I forget what it's called exactly) was great. Those were the hits. The misses: pastor bao was forgettable. The bao itself was a tad too chewy. The meat lacked flavor, and the giant pile of lettuce added to the blandness. The Nutella stuffed French toast looked way better than it tasted. The bread to egg ratio was off - too much bread, not enough egg. The Pocky sticks didn't add to the dish, though they looked nice, pushed into a toasted marshmallow (the marshmallow was yummy, as toasted marshmallows generally are). My latte was a bit bitter. 3.5% surcharge added when paying with a credit card - I would appreciate knowing that up front. read more

I am glad that I was able to try this place. This has been on my list for awhile. Where do I begin? The staff is amazing and super friendly! My friend and I felt really welcomed. The service was great. Mari was our server and she was the best! The food was pretty good as well. The mini waffles were fluffy. It didn't feel heavy with the whipped cream and chocolate chips. The burger was on a brioche bun and yes with waffle fries. The burger was super juicy and the pineapple with caramelized onion balanced the flavor so well. If you are ever in Lincoln Square I would definitely come here for breakfast/ brunch/lunch :). read more

I dare you to find a more friendly and welcoming breakfast/brunch spot in the Chicago area. The folks at Pastores are absolutely wonderful from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. The breakfast tacos are the best thing on the menu, in my opinion. Toss in a bottomless cup of Cafe de Olla, and it just doesn't get any better. I have a special place in my heart for Tanja (my partner and I love seeing her whenever we're there) - but, I adore the entire staff. It's such a neighborhood gem. Best advice -- go early. Very disappointing. Chilaquiles were awful this time, something must have changed. There were no tortilla chips, just a pile of soggy corn tortillas, and the rice and steak wasn't even seasoned. Rice was just white rice with carrots and peas, not even Spanish rice like what is shown in other pictures on here. No flavor at all. I paid over 20 dollars for a pile of bland mush. read more

I got the mini breakfast tacos and they were so good. They were overfilled (def not complaining!) so I had to ask for some extra mini tortillas bc I couldn't wrap the filling up. My friend got the Ceazar pita which looked good and she confirmed that it was. Fresh squeezed orange juice and a very nice server. My only suggestion is about maybe a touch more seasoning in the chicken rice soup and on the fries. A dash of salt and they would be top notch! I added it myself and was pleased. I absolutely do not recommend ordering for takeout or delivery. Not once, but twice we've had issues with Pastores + Brunch. While their breakfast tacos are delicious we've had two orders with full entrées missing (once a steak and eggs and once a waffle breakfast). Imagine ordering food for your family and having to tell your 5 year old that their food didn't come. So sad. Additionally waffles are advertised as 3 pieces and the one order (of two) that we did receive only had two waffles in it. The packaging was poor as shown in pictures and overall ordering from here is more of a headache than it's worth. read more
