The server had a tough time understanding our order despite me pointing to the menu items that I wanted. After we thought the server had our order correct, another server from the back double checked our order with us and our original server had it all wrong. The service was slow overall and we had to flag down people to get refills on drinks and to ask for our bill for the meal. The owners kids were running around inside the aisles of the restaurant as well as constantly going in and out of the front door. The food itself was good. I had tofu curry with veggies- I was glad to find a place in AK that actually served tofu and sizable portions of veggies. The curry had some good spice to it but wasn't overly spicy to the point of discomfort. My dining companion was satisfied with his sushi order and commented that the fish tasted fresh. Still 4.5 stars! This place is amazing for so many reasons. First, I have to commend the owners for reading reviews here and responding to improve! They incorporated a few suggestions from my last review and it's only been about a week! They have also been doing some of their own upgrades, including a flat screen TV displaying a beautiful menu slideshow with several excellent, labeled photographs of their dishes! One of the staff was photographing dishes the night we were there so it was still a work in progress, but I was impressed at how many different dishes this tiny place had already cataloged. This speaks to their varied clientele. Not only that but when I asked what time they close, the waitress replied, "When the last customer leaves"! They have a Restaurant Open sign visible from the parking lot and she explained that they normally aim for 9, but people just keep coming in even if the Open sign is off. I know why! If that door isn't locked and I'm in the neighborhood, I'm going to want to eat here! Again I had trouble deciding because everything looks awesome, and even better, tastes fabulous. They were still out of squid, so no Ika Nigiri for me again. That's not uncommon in these parts and it's hard to get and keep it really fresh. Although I personally love Ika, I'm not sure how popular it is with others, either, so maybe there is not enough demand. Tonight we repeated the Thai iced coffee and fresh spring rolls, both every bit as good as the last time. We also ordered a Tekka Maki handroll (my mistake, I meant Nigiri but it was DELICIOUS all the same), Padped pork, and Pataya Shrimp (total $65 with tip). I can sum it up in 2 words: WOW! YUM! We forgot to specify heat level so we received very flavorful dishes with mild spice. This would definitely be safe for many that haven't yet ventured into Thai and aren't sure how hot they want it, yet it isn't bland and wouldn't bore the experience palate. The shrimp were peeled, deveined, and PERFECTLY cooked. These people know their craft and do it well. You are seriously missing out if you don't go at least a couple of times and try a few different dishes. The only suggestions I have for tonight's meal are using Thai/opal basil and straw mushrooms vs. Italian basil and button mushrooms in the stir fries, but those can be spendy and hard to find in Wasilla so I don't blame them and both were fresh and still complemented the dishes nicely. They are using kaffir lime leaves (yea!) and next time I'd like to try their lemongrass, galangal (Thai ginger), and cilantro/coriander dishes. I'd also like to see a brown rice option on the menu but there might not be enough demand for this either. Some improvements tonight also involved the inclusion of a soy dipping bowl and small plates for the sushi and appetizer. Also, at the end of the meal, the waitress brought us fortune cookies and she even offered me a to-go cup for my unfinished drink! I like Pataya in the downtown Wasilla Clock Tower Mall (Meta Rose Square), and have been stopping by for several years. Service can be a little slower than a lot of other Asian places, someties they have a very small staff, but it is worth the wait. The pad thai is classic and very reliable, one thing to watch for is their default comes with chicken and shrimp, and I always ask for no shrimp. I like shrimp but not in my pad thai. They have a wonderful vegetarian yellow curry. Everything is fairly spicy by default, but you can ask for more/less heat. The rice is always cooked with a nice texture that goes great with the coconut Tom Kha soup, my favorite. They have great Thai iced tea as well, but it is a little expensive at $6.00. Overall the prices are a little higher than you will find in Anchorage, but that seems like a standard Valley Asian restaurant markup thing. read more

Was craving springs rolls on this cold rainy day and my love, well egg rolls for him. Thought of somewhere close I had not yet tried and found myself stopping in at Pataya. Very small place in one of the oldest buildings in Wasilla. I put in an order to take out with a very friendly young lady. Waited about 5 minutes and was off with my small order. Needless to say best egg rolls we have ever eaten and the spring rolls were dynamite! Will be back to try everything....one star lost due to smell of the old building. I've eaten at Pataya several times. In fact, it was my peaceful "go-to" for a delicious quiet meal. The ambiance is welcoming. I've never had a bad meal at this place. My meal of habit I'd pad Thai and an order of egg rolls. Pad Thai is a tricky meal because it can contain way too much peanut sauce if you're not careful. To me, it seems like the chefs at Pataya know the right balance of peanut sauce, and it's certainly not overdone. I would suggest Pataya Sushi to anyone in the community. It's one of the community's best Thai restaurants hands down! read more

But every time I go i wait 10 minutes for my order to be taken, then they tell you one of the Sushi chefs didn't come in so they are short handed and sushi is backed up about 45 minutes. Best pad Thai in the valley for sure, I LOVE IT. The gyoza is good too. But I went there to pick up some food and I saw a cockroach scurry across the floor! A lot of places have roaches (Chepos)and it's gross. It made it hard to eat the food.They were closed for "renovation" for a short period of time but when re opened I didn't notice anything renovated. I know the building is very old and it might not be their fault. Maybe they were trying to get rid of the roaches. But clearly it didn't work. I would give 5 stars but they really need to get that fixed. read more

For a while, this was the favorite spot of my mom and I. You can get Pho, sushi, and curry all right here. We went there at least once a week and spent usually about $100. Our favorite roll, the SMT, was listed on the menu as either 2 pieces, 4, or 6. Instead of ordering multiple orders, I found it best to go with the 6 pieces. Then the server told us we had to order it in either 2 or 4, even though the menu clearly stated a 6 piece option. Ok, so we ordered more orders and paid more. Strange...but ok.... Then, one day there was a large table and a few others besides, and the teenage waiter was really busy and wasn't refilling our tea. So I reccomended he leave us the pot, not knowing what I was in for when I received the bill. I had failed to notice on the menu that while the tea is only about $1.25, if you order a pot, it suddenly becomes $9. For a pot of cheap green tea. I balked at that, and told him that we were very good customers who spent a lot of money there, but I could not abide the insult of being charged $9 for tea. He talked with the owner and came back with her counter offer of $6. I told him I would pay the $9 and never come back again. I was insulted that the owner hid back in the kitchen and did not come out to talk to me herself, and that she did not value our business enough to not rip us off. Then my mom went back one more time without me because she loved their Panang curry and SMT. When he brought out the sushi plate, he dropped it on the table. The plate cracked in half, and so did the glass table top. He then went and got her a new plate to put the sushi on. She told him it was unacceptable to serve food that had been contaminated with broken glass, that someone could get very hurt, paid her bill, and never went back. read more

I wanted good sushi. I should've gone to a sushi restaurant. This place didn't know what it was. Japanese Chinese Korean Indian Thai, there were even African decorations on the wall. My wife was disappointed with the bulgogi. She said it was just beef stir fry. The sushi was just ok. And would have been good except the sushi rice was so sweet it ruined otherwise decent fish. The second best sushi place in the Valley, but they also serve a really good curry! The portions are good and so is the price. When I want curry, which my wife hates, and she and the rest of my brood want sushi, this is the perfect place to come. If we all want sushi, then Sakura Sushi is better, but pricier. If I want curry, Mekong is pretty darn hard to beat, so Pataya is a good compromise for people who want a variety of Asian food. read more

I will start with the curry was very good. Now the reason we will never go back. The service was horrible. My wife ordered a pair of tako. When she got it it looked great but when she bit into it it was frozen! Ok I understand it should be cold but frozen???? We have eaten at many sushi restaurants and have never gotten it frozen. Any of it. So needless to say it made my wife lose her appetite. When I brought the issue up to the waitress she had nothing to offer other than "do you want me to heat it up?" Not here let me replace it or let me take it off of the bill. Nothing that any other restaurant or even a hole in the wall at the mall would offer. My family and I love this restaurant. My kids are gluten free and the chef is great about making changes to the recipe so my kids can enjoy dinner. I, personally, love their Fresh Spring Rolls. Ordered take out from this establishment, When I arrived ready to pay my bill with cash in hand the waitress informed me the total was $99.98. With this total I assumed a mistake had been made and I had gotten someone else's bill, after all I order two items that should of rang up to just over twenty dollars. After explaining what I had ordered in hopes that it would bring my ticket too mind. Instead the waitress told me that I had ordered one of one dish and eight of the other. I tried too reason with the lady, explaining the order was for two people, the same order I've made in the past. At this point the waitress disappeared into the kitchen, a intense conversation took place between a women and a man in a language other then English. With two minutes gone by, a short man with a pony tail stepped out of the back insisting that the lady that took my order asked me three times if I wanted eight orders of pad-thai and that I pay for them. Unwilling to pay for the waitresses mistake I declined respectively, what was I going to do with eight orders of pad-thia. At this point the man become very rude, accusing me of trying to rip him off. The waitress returned from the back, her and the man with the pony tail then engaged in for lack of a better word "bullying" me to tears over a mistake made by an employee. With no better option I could think of under the pressure I paid the bill still in tears. The bill was paid in cash as that's what I had with me, the man refused to give me a receipt with my change and I walked out with more food then I knew what to do with. What can I say, what can I do?
