    Bad Alphonso Mangoes.

Terrible experience buying mangoes from here. 5/10 turned out bad. I feel people should refrain buying from here.

    Narrow aisles....always feels crowded.

I liked this store but not so much anymore. What I still like: the variety...multiple options to choose from. Fresh, yummy Indian snacks (this was only available pre-COVID), Seamless checkout process. I think this was one of the first Indian stores to accept contactless payments. What I don't like: not well organized, narrow aisles, which is not really a good thing especially during COVID - you may run into people. Maintaining social distance is almost impossible! Frost over freezer glasses...have to open the door to look what is on display. They are not doing a good job on maintaining COVID protocols- given the narrow aisles- they should restrict number of people entering the store. Never seen sanitizer available for use. I still visit once in a while if I am in the neighborhood, but it is definitely not my go-to Indian grocery store.

This is an absolute slam dunk staple for South Asian/Indian/Pakistani groceries of all kinds, e.g. dry goods/snacks (Haldirams), tons and tons of hard to find produce, at pretty decent prices, fruits also hard to find elsewhere, and the in season varieties of mangoes are a sight. I'm not talking the local run of the mill Manila mangoes. Nope ... hold on to your hat, because I'm here to tell you they sell Alphonsos, by the box, no less. Yes, they're $45 bucks a box of dozen, but still, be real, where else are you gonna find a Alphonso. And yes, they also have Kesar variety as well as Kent, and other varieties I've barely heard of. It's a warehouse of groceries and everything else you'd want from a store of this calibre, a bit of a madhouse with carts zooming everywhere and it seems they never have a slow day, so whether you're there on a weekend or weekday, it likely busy. The psychic ad at the front entrance cracks me up because it's just so typical of the culture, not sure how a psychic is gonna help depression, I was tempted to put a little sign that said, "Maybe try psychotherapy?" Lol but I get it, it's deep in the culture so to be culturally sensitive, especially being Indian, I can't be too cynical. We scored big on Alphonsos and Caesars today, some of which I couldn't resist buying for my brother and sister in law. btw, if you call them with a question, you're likely not gonna get a straight answer (if they pick up at all), it's best to go down there and investigate their wares :-)

This is mainly a COVID-19 review in which social distancing is not enforced. I went Friday evening and it was super crowded! There is this one lady who orders the staff to restock and she is super mean. Yells at customers too. The staff is also restocking shelves while customers are inside. People are running their carts over food etc. Not to mention their bathroom is super dirty. Not sure how the passed any COVID health regulations!

Do not buy Alphonso mangoes from this crappy place. All the mangoes that come out of the box have always gone bad. Please check the photos for proof. They exhorbitantly charge 65$ for a box which only has 10 mangoes. We have tried their box 3 times to give it a chance but no luck on any attempts. They do not give refunds for these bad quality products and they want us to bring the bad mangoes to them once they are cut. Hopeless service. Please do not waste time and money in this store.

Nice grocery store with wide variety of food items. Staff is really helpful and nice. They also carry their own snack items which are delicious and fresh. Tons of Maharashtrian food is also available. Isles are really narrow so you might have to face huge crowd anytime you go for shopping here. But its good place.

I went on to check it out because I needed a little somethin' somethin', and more than a decade later, I've been here at least twenty times and have even used its DriveUp & Go services a couple of times. For a suburban Safeway, it's on the smaller side, but it isn't small. The selection is very good for the size of the store. The parking lot can be a mess, but it's shared with other businesses, so that's not really Safeway's fault. The most annoying part of the store is familiar to supermarket goers everywhere: There's not enough room between the checkout stands and the aisles themselves, so while you're waiting to check out, you're blocking people who are trying to zigzag their way through all the aisles. But why am I focusing on the negative? The people who work here are always nice, and they always have everything I need. I often come here before I go to Costanoa; and the first time that happened, I picked up a very reliable, affordable, and lightweight flashlight from here. I've since bought at least five more flashlights from that company, although I haven't seen them here (I ordered the rest from the company website) since that first time. It can feel like a trek getting here, but I had this entire ritualized pattern that is now slightly altered because of a certain restaurant's lack of pinball machines. You probably don't know what I'm talking about, and that's fine. Oh, and when my friend Dan lived near here, which wasn't for very long, we came to stock up on pretzels and carrots before a night of Wiz-War, and I was shocked that it was the UPS Store Safeway, as I think of it--sort of. There might be another Safeway farther down Homestead Road, and that store isn't as good. I think/believe this because GPS once led me to a different Safeway, even though I had punched in Homestead Road. Speaking of the roads around here, the blocks are ridiculously long in this part of Santa Clara, so if you miss the parking lot, don't do the San Francisco right-right-right move. Just make a U-turn. I'm normally a right-right-right guy, but if you do that here, it will take you forever.

It was on a recent accidental trip that I found myself at this Santa Clara Walmart Neighborhood Market. It essentially is a larger size version of your typical supermarkets like Safeway or Lucky, except it's a lot more spacious & carry more grocery options. Due to its warehouse-like operation, the prices are slightly more affordable in general than those aforementioned stores; especially when things go on sales. For example, I scored a dozen maple glazed donuts for $4.69 (normally, $6.99, Dunkin or Krispy would have been more than $15. And if you take the time to look through each aisle, you may notice that they have some red stickers with significant markdowns, for example, a 10oz brown gravy mix normally $0.99-$1.39 elsewhere, it was $0.32, I got a whole bunch, it's perfect for my Canadian soul food - le Poutine, it works really well! And yes, the staff can be a hit or miss, depending on who you ask, but in general, they are pretty helpful, I never had problems. If there's a minor complaint, it's that you need the physical credit card to self-checkout, no GooglePay or Apple pay, etc, that's kind of pain in the you-know-where, but when I get my groceries with low prices, I'm really OK! In summary, it's been such a long time, I completely forgot that there's this Walmart Neighborhood Market within 2 miles of where I live. With dollar stores no longer offer DOLLAR items, some raised to $1.25, $3 - $5 in certain freezer items. it makes more sense to just drive here where they offer more choices at equal or better prices.

They had the usual array of nonstick pots, which don't work very well for me. They had a small but useful section for clay pots. I thought Amazon and AliExpress had overpriced clay pots, but I was wrong. These prices were significantly higher. I can only hope these are the best of the best. Checking up on 99 Ranch, I couldn't even find clay pots in there more limited kitchen utensil section. I ran across one item where knockoffs are ubiquitous. They've completely flooded AliExpress and you have to watch it with Amazon. Hankook had the authentic item and at significantly lower price than both Amazon and Aldi express. I found a tea section to be well stocked. I also recognize some of the tea brands. 99 Ranch has gone with lower cost options, but if you buy 6 ounces of tea, are you gonna be stuck with an enormous supply. Better to go with reliable brands that I have enjoyed in the past. I loved the produce section. It was nice and fresh. It also had wider selection of produce than other supermarkets. The store itself is stunning. The the aisles are spacious. The store is meticulously clean. The shelves are fully stocked. There were only about two items which were shopped out. The snack area and the frozen foods were even more interesting. It's obvious in those two sections that there were many more Korean brands. I should've tried some, but it's hard for me to resist snacks and there was a good chance that would finish the entire bag in one go. Better to skip it entirely. The parking lot for the supermarket is spacious. I had no trouble finding a spot even though I arrived in the late afternoon when everybody has gotten off work. I live about two hours away. And I am very jealous because there is no Hankook near me.
