I was in Santa Clara today. I needed some fresh vegetables and snacks. I came across this store on El Camino Real. I had a good experience. The Sikh gentleman in the isles really helped me to find what I was looking for. The check-out ladies were smiling and nice. I wish they were a little bit more helpful though. This Store carries a large selection of products - my favorite snacks and more. I particularly liked the Desi Ghee (Nature's Fruits brand). I like this store but I don't have a location in my area. Later I learned that they have 64+ stores in the US! I hope they open one in Tri-Valley area soon (San Ramon, Dublin, Danville). Request to the Owners - Just do it, you won't regret it. read more

The contents of the store is good, but most of the cashiers are really rude. No help with bagging at all, you have to bag your shopping items! They don't even wait for you to pick up your items, start throwing the next person's items! I liked this store but not so much anymore. What I still like: the variety...multiple options to choose from. Fresh, yummy Indian snacks (this was only available pre-COVID), Seamless checkout process. I think this was one of the first Indian stores to accept contactless payments. What I don't like: not well organized, narrow aisles, which is not really a good thing especially during COVID - you may run into people. Maintaining social distance is almost impossible! Frost over freezer glasses...have to open the door to look what is on display. They are not doing a good job on maintaining COVID protocols- given the narrow aisles- they should restrict number of people entering the store. Never seen sanitizer available for use. I still visit once in a while if I am in the neighborhood, but it is definitely not my go-to Indian grocery store. read more

This is an absolute slam dunk staple for South Asian/Indian/Pakistani groceries of all kinds, e.g. dry goods/snacks (Haldirams), tons and tons of hard to find produce, at pretty decent prices, fruits also hard to find elsewhere, and the in season varieties of mangoes are a sight. I'm not talking the local run of the mill Manila mangoes. Nope ... hold on to your hat, because I'm here to tell you they sell Alphonsos, by the box, no less. Yes, they're $45 bucks a box of dozen, but still, be real, where else are you gonna find a Alphonso.And yes, they also have Kesar variety as well as Kent, and other varieties I've barely heard of. It's a warehouse of groceries and everything else you'd want from a store of this calibre, a bit of a madhouse with carts zooming everywhere and it seems they never have a slow day, so whether you're there on a weekend or weekday, it likely busy. The psychic ad at the front entrance cracks me up because it's just so typical of the culture, not sure how a psychic is gonna help depression, I was tempted to put a little sign that said, "Maybe try psychotherapy?" Lol but I get it, it's deep in the culture so to be culturally sensitive, especially being Indian, I can't be too cynical. We scored big on Alphonsos and Caesars today, some of which I couldn't resist buying for my brother and sister in law. btw, if you call them with a question, you're likely not gonna get a straight answer (if they pick up at all), it's best to go down there and investigate their wares :-) read more

This is mainly a COVID-19 review in which social distancing is not enforced. I went Friday evening and it was super crowded! There is this one lady who orders the staff to restock and she is super mean. Yells at customers too. The staff is also restocking shelves while customers are inside. People are running their carts over food etc. Not to mention their bathroom is super dirty. Not sure how the passed any COVID health regulations! read more

They exhorbitantly charge 65$ for a box which only has 10 mangoes. We have tried their box 3 times to give it a chance but no luck on any attempts. They do not give refunds for these bad quality products and they want us to bring the bad mangoes to them once they are cut. Hopeless service. Last week, i shopped groceries and Indian mangoes. the manager helped identify 3 boxes of mangoes claiming these mangoes were good Quality. He also added if there is any issue just reach out and he will replace It. next day, we cut open the 9 mangoes they were rotten around the pit. I took the pics as a proof of evidence and returned to the store. manager yelled at me saying, it was completely unacceptable. He was yelling at me where all customers stopped and began looking in my direction. i paid over $150 for these mangoes. One of his colleagues stepped in and said, he may be having a bad day. This is the nicest Indian grocery store in the Bay Area. The staff is kind, helpful and always happy to serve their customers. They also remember their clients.... Other stores are so grumpy even if you are a regular customer. We only recently started going here although it is 25 miles away. Family Indian grocery store. I think it replaced the korean grocery store that closed down previously (?). i was in the area and noticed a handful of the stores that used to be there are no longer there. Stopped by to buy a couple items. The ginger was a pretty good price at 99c a lb. Not sure where the origin is. I've been shopping here since they opened as New India Bazar just up the road was just getting too crowded (note New India just finished a remodel). Although New India is slightly closer to my home, parking is much easier with Patel Bros as they're part of the Smart & Final strip mall. Pros: 1. Great variety of South East Asian groceries 2. I love coming here for my indian groceries! It's just comfortable, clean, and organized. I never have issues finding what I need, but if I do, it's because I don't know what I'm looking for! LOL I try to avoid weekends as that's when most shops are crowded so my weekday trips here are a breeze. Pricing is always good on their veggies and I've never had anything out of stock that I needed! I do want to give them a mention that I've seen them practice good COVID hygiene by (1) all employees wearing a mask, (2) enforcing all customers to wear a mask before entering, and (3) spraying customers hands with hand sanitizer prior to entering. There's someone at the door monitoring the # of people and the above rules, which is amazing and truly appreciated! read more

Check your receipt before you leave the store. I just experienced a double charge for a sale item (a box of mangos). I remember seeing the cashier ringing the item before she got to it, then she rang it again at the end because it was the last item on the belt. Who would ring up an item before you get to it? I did not look at the receipt then because I trusted that she may have corrected it. When I got home and cleared things off the counter, I casually looked at my receipt and noticed the double charge. There is a statement at the bottom of the receipt that says to check your receipt and bags before you leave. I wonder why that statement is there. When there is a long line and everyone is rushing, do people normally check their receipts and items at the counter? One of my friends complained to me about being charged for the clear plastic veg/fruit bag. I argued with him that those are free and you can only get charged for grocery bags and no stores charge for the clear plastic bags. His defense was that he did not want to wait or make a scene about it. I guess this is exactly what they want you to think. I rarely write a review unless I experience extremely poor service or dishonesty from the business. read more

I used to buy all my groceries from this place but the last batch I got was totally rotten. I bought 2 pgkes of Alu Paratha and 3 frozen pkges of ready made Swad brand vegetables along with some other stuff. All the frozen food ($15 value) had fungus growing on them when opened. How can frozen food go bad? They obviously did not store it properly during transport or in store. I did not have the receipt otherwise I would have gone and shown it to them. I needed several items to cook Indian curry but I never stopped Indian grocery store before, so no clue where to go. But thanks to other yelp reviews, I decided to give a try here. Freezer section was my favorite. I needed some Naan and Samosa to serve at my dinner party. There were many types of Naan and Samosa, and many brands to chose from. I just picked Swad brand as Manish P. mentioned Swad and I remembered it. A package of Swad Tandoori Naan came with 5 in a bag for only $1.99. I heated them up in the oven as directed and it was pretty good. Samosa was also tasty and my guests loved them. But only one thing was that direction on the package was only for deep flying method. As I do not have deep fryer, I stuck them in the oven, 450 for 15 minutes and it came out perfectly crunchy and hot. I forgot which brand it was but a package came with 12 small samosas for $5 or so. Great deal. This is an interesting store for sure. I'd like to come back with someone who could tell me what's what, as I didn't get any help while I was shopping there. read more

Initially one girl said, she is putting me on hold until she finds the item and she just cut the phone. Stopped into this small yet stocked Indian grocery store after having lunch next door. Glad I did as I found spices on my grocery list; whole black peppercorn, yellow & black mustard seeds. Saw some curry powder, but was too close to 'Best By' date. Did find henna, but didn't buy as I need to do more research on using henna as natural hair dyeing.
