A great addition to the Uptown dining scene--a true neighborhood gem, almost a "Clancy's 2.0," with the original just a block away. We visited on Saturday night of the final Jazz Fest weekend. Despite reserving weeks in advance, we were seated outdoors--but on a beautiful night, it worked out perfectly. The menu leans locally sourced with a French accent. Cocktails were excellent--especially the Agave Maria! Standouts included the duck confit, the salads (which are generous--definitely share), and the pecan-crusted fish of the day. Service was excellent throughout. All in, dinner for four came to about $450 including tip--and felt well worth it. read more

We sat at the bar last night and had a terrific dinner. In fact, I've been in New Orleans a month and Patois is my new favorite; sssSShhh! The bartender, whose name we failed to get, was bar perfection; friendly, attentive, didn't hover; she knows her profession. We started with the Deviled Eggs which you may be rolling your eyes at a dish we all make; not like these Deviled Eggs. They were delish, not sweet, topped with green colored tobiko and topped off with a fried wonton. Would love to have an order this morning.....We had a late lunch, so we shared two appetizers and a dessert. We had the Grilled Shrimp and the Creole Tomato Salad. Both were excellent! The grilled shrimp comes in a small cast iron skillet and is swaddled in the most delectable sauce that includes fresh corn, thinly sliced charred okra (yummy). For the tomato salad, it was stacked with beautiful, thick slices of Creole tomatoes with fluffy, delicious ricotta in between. The restaurant filled up quickly and I highly recommend reservations. We'll definitely be back and I'm trying the Duck Confit Salad next. read more

This is a very cute neighborhood restaurant that has a cozy and comforting feel. We started with the deviled eggs and they were expertly flavored with a sushi-like vibe. The soup of the day was pumpkin with crab claws. Delicious combo, but it did include claws with bones. The roasted chicken and sides were good and well-cooked and enjoyable. The pecan crusted fish was good, but I wished the pecans were more crumbly instead of whole, but that could be a personal preference. It also could have used more of the Meunière sauce. The service was great and the staff were very friendly and casual which made the elevated dining experience less intimidating. read more

This place was so elegant and Cozy. We were greeted at the door and seated as soon as we walked in. Our waiters Bert was very attentive to our table. With each meal Bert changed out our utensils and kept our water glasses filled. The food was delicious, mouthwatering also with the perfect glass of wine with each course. I live nearby but haven't been here for a long time. Went for brunch recently and it was as delicious as I remembered! We had the puff pastry, a fried oyster special, the much-touted gnocchi, and the Cuban madame. Everything was excellent including the fries with the sandwich. The gnocchi lived up to the hype and was very decadent. The puff pastry insides had a great flavor- the outer shell was a smidge burnt for my taste. I wish I could take credit for finding this place. Thanks to "Alexx_Robinson" from Instagram post. Decided to try it for restaurant week. A few of the items on the menu weren't on the regular menu so I had to try it. We had to make an early reservation so that was a good sign meaning all the good times were already booked. From the time we walked in we knew this restaurant screamed elegance and quality. I never order gumbo at restaurants but it was an option and wanted to try everything. So my girls got the gritcake with shrimp heaven on a plate and I got the gumbo. That dark roux and sausage oh my God! We were the only black ppl in there the entire time but was never uncomfortable or felt unwelcome. Bert our waiter was wonderful! Such a hidden jewel. My husband and I often say we could live in New Orleans 100 years and still could not try every restaurant. This quiet, quaint restaurant is located uptown right across the street from the Ft Laurel sign. It's a must you make a reservation. Our waiter, Bert, was simply amazing: friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable of the menu. We chose to try the restaurant week menu with the wine paring. First course we had the shrimp and grit cake and the smoked chicken and sausage gumbo. The flavors of the sausage, shrimp and roux were simply divine. The grit cake came with shrimp and succotash which was such a savory combination. Paired with the Prosecco was the perfect touch. Second course we had the stuffed fish and the lamb chops. The fish was stuffed with an andouille dressing and was served with asparagus. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, served with a charred eggplant puree, Wild rice and crispy chick peas: chefs kiss. The fish was paired with a chardonnay and a priorat with the lamb chops: both complimentary to its entrée. Dessert was a peach upside down cake with ice cream and served with a Nieeport White Port that was the cherry ontop a phenomenal meal. We're definitely planning to dine again. read more

Sat at the tight, small bar and received excellent service. As an app, we tried the deviled eggs. They were delicious. We then ordered wine by the glass (both very nice) and split the pecan crusted fish. They divided it for us delightfully well, and the portions still seemed generous enough for us. We live here in New Orleans, and this was the best fish (Almandine-ish Style) I've put in my mouth in a hot minute. I keep wanting one more bite; hours later. Patois is an immensely charming, well run, must visit in NOLA. Make a reservation, as the place is relatively small. Love this place! A group of four of us were in town visiting for the weekend doing the food tour. We came across writing to this place and it sounded great. It certainly lived up to expectations. The pecan encrusted drum was excellent. I had the beef short ribs. they were, cubed with a light smattering of a macaroni style pasta in when I think it is a a beer and red wine reduction sauce. I'm eating it was tender and extraordinary! Our group, I'll give this place a resounding thumbs up! The service was great and the atmosphere was nice and comfortable. We went here for brunch a few years ago which was delicious. So we decided to have a dinner date night. It's a perfect place for a date night. We sat by the window which was very nice. I had a Pinot Grigio wine which was very good. We started the meal with the delicious bread basket. I would recommend that if you like bread. Our entrees were the paneed pork chop and crusted redfish. These entrees were amazing. We will definitely be back. My meal at Patois was okay. I started with the Fried Cauliflower which was good and very filling! My meal consisted of the Gnocchi and Five Spice Duck Confit Leg Salad. The Gnocchi was a bit weird to me. I typically love crab but the crab flavor wasn't good at all. Now the Duck Leg Confit Salad was everything!! Everything about it was perfect! It had an Asian flavor to it and was so fresh and flavorful. I'd definitely return for that dish alone. My table thought that the cocktails were terrible across the board. Patois should taste the drinks and rethink the recipes. Or it's possible that the bartender was off that night. Either way, we were disappointed. Also worth noting, parking is on the street and I suggest avoiding the restroom. It was clean, but soooo tiny and hard to move around without bumping against things. read more

One of my favorite places that I ate in NoLa! The crawfish & grits was heaven- could've had 2! My friend said hers was a bit salty but that's grits haha I also liked my seafood gumbo. Good Friday brunch-- what a superb idea! I absolutely love the atmosphere at Patois. It has an upscale feel to it but it also feels like you are welcome as you are, so I guess you might call it classy casual? I ordered a fresh squeezed mimosa, the sweetbreads, and the duck confit salad as my entree. The sweetbreads were nicely cooked with a nice crisp on the outside and the grits were possibly the best I've ever had. It was accompanied by a smokey crawfish sauce that was perfect with the offal. The salad was delicious with fennel, walnuts, and apple, but the duck was obviously the star with a crust so crunchy it was like a duck chicharrón. The bill was a bit pricey for a salad, an appetizer and a drink ($55 when all was said and done) but we knew that going in. I had a lovely time with my friends and would recommend Patois to anyone wanting an upscale French meal. read more

Service was ok except our server did not know if they had Calvados and the bartender did not know to warm the glass. Steak au pouive was disappointing. I wanted a beautiful char on the steak and I got it and it was a perfect medium rare but I wanted the fond, deglazed with brand and cream with toasted peppercorns. All I could taste was pepper. Was waited on by the bartender, attentive and a consummate professional. The bourbon and basil based concoction was OFF THE CHAIN! Starters and entrees were voluminously represented. I went a bit overboard. Bread service was fresh, house made, and exceptional. I never take bread home, but did this time! Moved onto jar packed Chicken liver pate preserved with a "lid" of duck fat with house-made "fried" saltines with an assortment of house made jam, mustard all EXCELLENT! Had to try the duck and andouille gumbo. Dark flavorful roux with a dash of heat. Perfect "callas" like ball of rice. Delish! The entree was gulf fresh Drum with pecans and browned butter over haricot verts-perfectly cooked and flavorful. Dessert-Crème Brûlée with an excellently formed crust. We went here for Valentine's Day! My Fiancé found this place and surprised me. I had never heard of it, and I am someone who does extensive research on restaurants all across the city. The restaurant is not huge at all which gives it a romantic feel. For drinks we got the Doctor's orders and the Patois punch. They were both awesome!! As for appetizers I had to have the grilled shrimp, while my fiancé opted for the gumbo. The shrimp were juicy and flavorful, while the gumbo had an amazing roux. Some of the best gumbo in the city. For entrees we got the butter crusted grouper and the veal piccata. The grouper has this AMAZING SAUCE. I don't even know how to describe it. Just get it, it is the best fish I have ever had. However, my veal piccata was supbar. It was very dry.... I have had better piccata at the Cheesecake Factory honestly. Which is the reason for the four stars. There were no Valentine's specials or anything that made it extra romantic. Oh I almost forgot about the bread!!! The bread is to die for! It is pillowy and crisp and a little sweet. I went here for Coolinary and the food was delicious. It is a cute restaurant in the middle of a neighborhood. While the food was good I felt like the entree portion was a little smaller than it should've been. I ordered the curried cauliflower, the shrimp, and the peach ice cream. -Curried Cauliflower: the curried cauliflower was INCREDIBLE. My favorite part of the meal. It was deliciously prepared and on a bed of tzatziki. I would definitely recommend this dish if you go here. -Shrimp: the shrimp was good but felt like a small entree portion, maybe because it was a coolinary dish but I felt it could've been more generous. -Peach ice cream: the ice cream was fresh and had chunks if peaches in it. Don't know what happened here but tonite we had a terrible meal . Been here many times before but this was uniformly bad fare. Service was good but the dishes were terrible. A bolognese appetizer looked like it was cooked yesterday with the pasta hard and dry at The edges. Two servings of pecan crusted trout were not only way over cooked but tasted far from fresh and sorely in need of a sauce. The hanger steak was shoe leather on top of some soggy vegetables. Tres chic et petite! I have had wonderful meals with my husband and friends here. Everytime I cannot get over how much food they offer for the amazing pricing!
