This bar was such a cool place! You could easily spend several hours here. Each floor has its own bar it appears. The basement bar called The Cellar is the really cool spot though. It has such a speakeasy vibe where you could belly up to the bar and get lost all night there. The cocktails and bourbon selection were also excellent, as you'd expect in Louisville. If you can get past the awful sewer smell in the bar area than it is a pretty cool spot to grab a drink. The have a wide selection of Bourbon and beer and decent wine for the price. The food is mostly pub grub with an Irish theme. The fish and chips and burger are fairly good. I'm not sure what's up with the smell but employees think it is a sewer line in the area. If you are headed to the Yum Center or downtown for an event it has a lot more space than other bars to grab a drink. read more

This is overall is a solid Irish pup. We wanted to grab dinner nearby but the other place was closed and this was on the same block. This spot is what you would expect lots of wood and a big bar. There is a serviceable draft beer menu. What really wowed me was the food- I had an outstanding rendition of shrimp and grits- it was amazing. Everyone else at my table enjoyed their dinners as well. This review is for the Whiskey Cellar which is part of the restaurant but essentially its own entity in the basement (with its own entrance on the back side of the restaurant). We happened to walk in while waiting for another spot around the corner. It was an interesting little bar, beautiful (and underutilized) space with great decor. The bartenders were extremely welcome and talkative, and drinks were great. I was confused why there weren't many people, but when it failed to show up on google/yelp as it's own place, I understood why. Such a shame, more people should check it out! We were walking around Louisville trying to decide on a place for lunch when a gentleman stepped outside and invited us to dine with him here. He enticed us with an extensive beer list and great sandwich options. I didn't wind up getting a beer. When in Kentucky it's all about the Bourbon right? I ordered the O Fashion bourbon cocktail. Our server recommended the Whiskey Row. What a sandwich! I didn't know my mouth would open that big. It is a bourbon smoked chicken breast with bacon, Swiss, egg, lettuce, and tomato on a potato bun. I ordered it with tater tots. I love tater tots and think everyone should serve them. I gave up halfway through the sandwich due to mouth cramps and took it off the bun to eat with a fork and knife. I've been to O'shea's in the highlands but this location was a new experience. The location has so much personality. Loved the rich wood accent walls and ambience. We came her me for a get together after a graduation. It was great that they were able to get us in easily during a Saturday mid day. Jeanette was our waitress and was such a fun server! She connected with us and we all had fun! We had the pork nachos (order the half size, its huge!) we also shared the fish and chips plate. I tried they O'shea's version of the old fashion. It was just ok. I prefer the normal version. They make them with Old Forrester. We had a great time. One funny thing, the bathrooms are in the basement. Super weird and secluded. 8.9/10 - My friends and I all love going to O'Shea's if we're downtown. Going when there's live music is always a treat but their pretzels and beer cheese are also a treat. I normally order their chicken tenders because I can share it with someone and then maybe drink a little more ha. Have never had bad service here. read more

My husband and I loved this place! Great atmosphere, stout drinks, reasonable prices, and great food!

I will start out with the good. The food is awesome. Large portions and great burgers. Tons of whiskey and a great beer selection. The beer is overpriced. I can drink Guinness at the Irish Rover and Molly's Malone for a buck cheaper. And I can promise you, the Rover pours it better. One bathroom. And it's located downstairs. Half the time there is a party down there. Have to go bad and expect a wait. So, for men, there are 2 stalls and 4 urinals for a bar that stays busy. Makes no sense. I will end by saying the staff is normally friendly. read more

Was in downtown Louisville for a convention. Nice small quiet city. Wanted to drink some Bourbon and everything in the surrounding area closed early during the week and O'Shea's was one of very few places that were open so we decided to go here. We got the menu and there are no prices on the cocktails, or bourbons. So I figured ok getting any of these cocktails will probably be like $10. Only $10 because the other places I was at were serving cocktails for that price in the area. Buyer beware, the old fashion I got was $12. Again the cocktail/drinks menu have NO PRICES ON IT. Old Fashion was fine. It was much different from the typical Old Fashions I usually get. Much sweeter but I'm not going to complain about that. Usually can get buzzed from a stiff Old Fashion but unfortunately completely sober. What I will complain about how on my next order of drinks, I wanted to try one of their bourbon flights. Louisville is apparently known for the brand "Old Forester." There were two options. I asked the bartender which one she recommend and she told me to get the second one. I asked her questions and she couldn't really answer except the years of the Bourbon meant that's when they were invented. Which had the years like 1867 1930, etc. My first initial reaction was "OK, are you trying to sell me like an insane amount of years of whiskey?" So before I committed I asked her to get me the price on it because she didn't know either. 3 flights, about .5oz of each I'm assuming for 3 whiskies would be $10-15? I mean this is not Macallan 20 year or Johnny Blue. But the price for this was $32. Now first off, why won't you tell me the price of these on your menu and second, why would you recommend me something that's expensive when you didn't even know how much they are and what they were? LOL. Completely rubbed me off the wrong way. Oh and here's the kicker. This convention was very diverse. Over 3,000 people. However the night before apparently, a group of Asians came to O'Sheas because again one of the very few places that are open late at night. As we walked in, we heard one of the bartenders say "Oh great, here we go again." Now this to me is a huge negative connotation. To me it shows that you don't seem to have the greatest opinions of Asians. Bad service was given to us all night but to be racist? Come on man. This is 2018. I don't have time for that. If I am ever back in Louisville, which I probably will never be, I will never come here or again or recommend it. read more

We were in town for a competition and needed a place all 27 of us could fit comfortably. I called early in the afternoon to see if reservations were possible for a Sunday night at 9:00 and they said that wouldn't be a problem. I got there a little early just to make sure we could be accommodated and they already had our section reserved for us. For it to have been so crowded the food came out fast and the service was amazing. Shout out to Chip for being especially patient and awesome with us. Patrick O'Shea's is a fantastic addition to the downtown dining scene. Dark, polished wood makes for a cozy ambience, live music adds to the festive mood, and outdoor seating all add up to a great dining experience. What I noticed more than anything was the stellar service that my party received when we were there. Granted, my visit was for a special event and not for your run-of-the-mill dinner out. On the other hand, serving a large group for a function is often trickier than waiting on a booth of 4 while a college game is on. Our servers in the upstairs private dining area were some of the best I've ever had for an event. They were very friendly, obviously very used to managing a group, and kept the serving dishes full without being obtrusive. Last but not least, the food we had was really tasty. Everybody's favorite was the prime rib, which was served in a delicious au jus that enhanced the flavor. The other highlight for me was the cheesecake we had for dessert. It was creamy rather than dry like some iterations, and hit the spot at the end of the meal. My second visit back to Patrick O'Shea's has me yearning for more. A great place for a proper pint from the wonderful beer selection. If you are more of a bourbon fanatic, this place has a very nice selection of some of KY's finest bourbons. As a business owner, it is always comforting when an establishment makes customer service a priority. The moment I walked into the bar, I was greeted with a smile and a polite conversation. Multiple bourbons later, I found myself having a conversation with the Assistant General Manager, who invited my friend and I to tour the building. To our surprise, this facility if full of history, character and ambiance. The Bourbon Cellar seems like a great place for a group of friends to enjoy drinks before heading out to a show. If you are looking to host a private function, one of the private facilities on the second and third floors may be more your style. We were treated to a visit on the newly completed rooftop bar. This was more my style.......add a cigar and another fine bourbon and I would be in heaven. If you are looking for a nice hang out with great people, beer and spirits, this is the perfect spot for you! read more

I would never give a new employee a bad review as he was doing his best, so please keep this in mind as I share our experience. We were 8 people, ordered asking for three separate checks. The scotch eggs came out charred black / very overcooked, had to ask to be re-done. Appetizers were sub par, one of our friends dishes was a long delay because the waiter admitted the kitchen had burned it... fish & chips were good, ordered wine however the wine glasses were still wet and clearly not polished as all wine glasses should be- two of the three wine glasses had lipstick on them! Shame on the dishwasher- that's a big no-no! At the end of dinner, after having to get up and ask for our checks, he didn't do three checks- he made one for each separate person.... Very nice place. Open and very clean. See I've was excellent. It was three of us that came in for lunch. The lunch portions where very nice with the exception the coleslaw was very small. Need a little more on the potion of the slaw. Just a thought!! However the food was very tasty and on time. The pretzel bread and beer cheese was off the chain!! I feel like I've been to Patrick O'Shea's a dozen times at least, but never remembered to write a review. This place is gigantic with multiple floors. There are tons of beers, a great food menu and it's a fun place to go. I've gone before concerts at the Yum Center where it was so so crowded, but they still seemed to staff well so they could handle the crowd. I've been there to dance on the dance floor, I've been there just to sit at the bar and drink and I've been there just to eat dinner a couple of times. Each time was a good experience. I've always thought one thing was weird. There's no restroom on the main floor. You either have to go upstairs or downstairs to find one. read more

I ended up here on my great Mother's Day Bar Crawl A Thousand Miles From Home of 2012. It was a rainy kind of sunday, and the bar wasn't jammed, so I just sat at the bar, had an appetizer, and got through as much of the beer list as I could. The beers are truly spectacular. I stuck to local brews, and they were all amazing. I particularly liked the Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout. If you get one beer from here, make sure it's that one. The appetizer I suggest is the Rueben Wontons. I love me a good rueben, and this place apparently knows how to cook it something fierce. I tried a couple other apps and drinks and such, but these are the staples here, and you must try them. The service was very good, though it was not busy so the servers and bartender all had a few minutes to chit chat. I never really expected to find an Irish Themed Pub I was a fan of in Loiusville, but am glad I did. read more

Nice interior. Fried Pickles with bourbon smoked paprika ranch were great, they are spear cut which is the superior cut for fried pickles IMO. My Fish Sandwich with toasted rye bread, jicama slaw + cajun remoulade was good but I regretted the fried pickles after that since I realized too late it was too much fried all in one sitting. Came here after a Bourbon tour! Got the best cheese with soft pretzel loaves, patty burger, and the lunch special with short ribs and risotto. Got some bourbon on the rocks and a blackberry manhattan (which has fresh, muddled blackberries). Everything was DELICIOUS! If I was a local, I would come here all.the.time. This was an odd stop for my mom and I on our trip to Louisville. We'd been wandering for what seemed like an eternity in search of a fun bar open on a Sunday evening in the Bible Belt when we saw the sign for O'Shea's. We'd been looking for an authentic bourbon bar and really wanted an authentic Louisville Julep. We sat down and asked for a drink menu at the bar and the man behind it looked at us like we were insane, but eventually located one. They had a peach infused mint julep on the menu so we asked for a regular one, we thought quite reasonably. The bartender said he couldn't do it. We were confused. He said the peach one was good and we declined, hoping not to drink anything with fakey peach syrup. He then reiterated that he could not make us a julep as it was out of season. We were flummoxed. He then said he was the bar manager and perhaps the real bartender could make us one, but explained that generally they used mint infused bourbon and they only ordered it for Derby season. Oh. Okay. Finally an answer we could understand. He also pointed out that the peach version was made with real peach nectar, not crappy fake syrup. We still passed and asked for a recommendation, wherein he made some great bourbon recos, gave us several shots to try gratis and served us our new favorite sipping bourbon. Twenty minutes later the somewhat snarly female bartender told us they were closing and that last call was 30 minutes ago. Well, okay. Mixed bag here. First impressions of this place are great! Absolutely beautiful bar juxtaposing ancient 8X24 timbers, some standard pub decorations, and quality modern art. Two levels greet you now, with another to come when the neighboring arena opens. I particularly enjoyed the Maguire paintings featuring notable Irishman in a Neiman-Warhol treatment. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The menu features pub classics, steaks, and burgers, plus an extensive list of quality small run brews (think Flying Dog. Left Hand, Breckenridge, Abita, Belgiums), guessing about 160. I am also guessing that NOW is the time to come here, because it's gonna be mad crowded when the new arena gets going in a couple of months. We had just finished a tour of the Old Forester distillery (best bourbon tour we've done) on a Wednesday afternoon and wanted a quick drink so we started walking and were lucky to find Patrick O'Shea's just a couple of doors down the street. We were early and there were just a few folks in the place, so we sat at the bar. Our "quick drink" turned into 2 plus hours of having a really good time. The drinks were great, the food was excellent, and the staff were just outstanding. We spent a good bit of time talking to the staff and looking around the 4 floors of the building. The next time we're in Louisville, I would like to visit on a Friday or Saturday night just to see the place when things are really busy. I would highly recommend Patrick O'Shea's as a place to gather with friends for a drink and/or a place for some good food. read more
