She is wonderful - a positive attitude and very efficient. Alex the technician was very sharp. My wife and I have used Patriot for years. My wife in her real estate days always relied on Jeff and Julie to come through for her and they always did. Now, we rely on them for our own home. I have been meaning to post this review for about two weeks now but you know life gets in the way. Long story short my ac broke down Saturday and I called approximately 6 different companies hoping someone could come out since it was super hot and we can't live without our AC. Lo and behold Patriot Mechanical were the only ones that picked up and sent a tech named Julian to our house early in the morning. Julian was awesome and friendly. He was able to fix our AC and was very thorough in explaining what caused the issue and what he would replace. Horrible service. These people installed the heater when my house was built. We needed service and after waiting a week Ron finally came out to the house and replaced a circuit board. Unfortunately he wired it wrong and the heater was laboring all the time it was on. The service guy came back out and told us we needed a new blower. This did not seem right so we called another company. The second company came and fix the problem by moving one wire from the wrong terminal to the correct terminal. Called Patriot for general servicing and to determine why I was not getting heat upstairs. Got an appointment in 2 days and Julian came out within the 2-hour window. He was friendly, efficient, seemed knowledgeable, and was able to determine that the upstairs thermostat (which had been replaced by a friend during the summer) was not installed properly. After adjusting the wires, heat arrived! He also showed me a potential problem with the main zone panel (burn marks) indicating that it would likely need to be replaced in the future. No hard sell to replace immediately, which I appreciated. Julian was an excellent technician. I would definitely use Patriot again. read more

We have an old Bitwel gas furnace installed in 1937 & had not been maintained since 1992. Julian was our service person. He was very professional, friendly, knowledgeable, on time, easy to reach by phone/text. He was able to repair our furnace and we did not need to replace it. My wife and I were actively evaluating the purchase of a house in Novato. I had some concerns about the condition of HVAC system - age, air flow, thermostat, etc. Our realtor recommended Patriot as a reputable company that we could contract to do an additional HVAC inspection at an EXTRA cost. On Aug, 15, 2017, one of their technicians came to do an inspection. It was uneventful, and frankly nothing revealing, however commented that we had a 2 zone damper system and older compressor that seemed to be functioning. When i asked about the temp inside the house, he said temp was reading correctly. Since they were the professionals and the so-called experts, so i took their word at face value - WRONG. They neglected to test why we were not getting sufficient airflow and superficially checked the thermostat. Once we purchased the house and moved in, it was clearly obvious that something was wrong. The house was reaching temps of over 85 degrees and we could not adjust the thermostat. They came out again and could not figure out how to work the thermostat. Never once, did they check that the 2 zone damper system. I finally had put in a claim through our home owners warranty insurance. They determined that the thermostat was faulty and the zone dampers were frozen shut. The insurance does not cover zone dampers. I went back to Patriot and indicated the findings - they clearly did not do the job to which i hired them to do. Had they performed the job correctly, I would have gone back to the sellers and request the appropriate credit at closing. Patriot came back to offer me a $850 discount off of a $ 4350 charge. How insulting...are they kidding me! I am not a fool nor will I be taken advantage by a dishonest contractor. I will be pursuing my remedies to fullest extent of the law. Terrible front office. Long story short, I had an appointment scheduled for 1.5 weeks. I take the day off work. The day of, Julie calls me 17 minutes before a tech was scheduled to arrive to tell me that they won't be coming. It takes nearly 2 hours befor she calls me back just to tell that there is nothing she can do about it. I explain how I took the day off work and still nothing. Look, I'm in the construction industry. People depend on techs to keep the lights on and home warm. Just because your shift might end at 5pm doesn't mean you can just check out. People rely on you and schedule their lives around the commitment you make with them. Return the respect and do a better job communicating. I can't comment on the quality of the field employees but, I can say the front office needs some serious help. read more

Not impressed. Herewith, a little history: Last winter, our heater began working intermittently and eventually stopped heating altogether; we called Patriot Mechanical because they had installed the original system in our house (in fact, in our entire development), and set up an appointment for a technician to come out. First long story short: the tech, Ron, showed up 5 hours late (I kid you not!), spent 10 minutes 'troubleshooting' the problem, then declared that he would have to come back the next day because it was late and had been a long day for him... (On a separate but related note, before he left, I asked Ron to take a quick look at a downstairs heating duct that appeared to have become detached; he looked and said he would have to mention it to "...a different tech who handles those things..." Okay, fine). Anyway, the next day Ron came back, looked at the heating system again, and this time determined that it needed a new control board. He replaced the board, we paid the $400 bill, and off we went, happy that our heater seemed to be up and running again. As he left, I reminded Ron about the separated duct, and he said he would arrange for someone to call. Not only did someone NOT call, but a few weeks later our heater reverted to intermittent heating again (aaaaagh!); however, by now the weather was warming up and we didn't really need heating, sooooo...yeah, we kinda let it slide off our radar. Fast forward to Summer 2015, which had to be one of the hottest on record around here. On one particularly warm day, I switched on the AC; it made its usual start-up sounds and then started running normally. For about 5 minutes. Then it started making weird sounds as it continued running. After an hour I switched the system off because no cold air was coming out. Second long story short: I called Patriot Mechanical; several times; got Voicemail, left messages, no one called back. On my last call I finally reached someone who set up an appointment for a technician to come out. The tech who showed up was my buddy, Ron. As he troubleshot the AC problem (for all of 10 minutes), I casually mentioned that last winter's intermittent heating problem appeared to be back as well, and he said the two issues might be related as the one furnace serves both functions. He showed me a 'blown' fuse and said it was caused by the upstairs AC unit overheating because of a faulty blower motor. He said we needed a new blower motor which would have to be special-ordered, and that it would cost $500 - $600 for the part, plus labor. I said that I would do some price comparisons and then make the decision as to whether or not to use Patriot or another company. That evening, my husband climbed up into the attic to look at the furnace and asked if Ron was coming back; I replied that I didn't think so, why? And my husband said "...Well, the cover is off the furnace and there are parts lying around on the floor..." The following week I received a bill from Patriot Mechanical for Ron's 'service call'. I called and spoke to Julie in the office, and crisply informed her that I would not be paying the bill. I explained in great detail about a) the unsatisfactory service; b) the fact that it was like pulling teeth to reach someone on the phone, and c) getting a return call was an exercise in futility. Julie was very apologetic, said that with the hot weather they were overwhelmed with calls, and that she would write off my bill. She also asked if we would be willing to give them the opportunity to make amends. Okay, sure; would you please send someone out to check on the separated duct that I previously asked Ron about. She said she would check to see if anyone was available and call me back. Julie never called back. Ron retired. So, there it is. I'm sure the company was, in fact, overwhelmed with service requests when our normally mild summer weather turned sub-tropical, BUT, that doesn't excuse poor customer service and failure to follow up and/or return calls. And you know what the worst part was? We ended up calling another company, who came out within 24 hours, and diagnosed the problem: it wasn't a faulty blower motor at all, but a wire that was attached to the wrong terminal, causing the furnace to draw between 17 & 19 amps! (It's supposed to draw 7 - 9 amps). As I stated at the beginning of this review, I am not impressed with Patriot Mechanical. However, Bigham One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning? Horrible awful service don't waste your time. I called because we had a problem with getting hot water. The tech came out and said he would follow up that day with a price for the gas control thermostat or getting a new water heater. He said water heaters die at 10!years and need to be drained and cleaned every year. After talking to others I found out mine is a new model and him ringing the cash register doesn't apply to me. The day he was supposed to call he did not. The next day I called the office and was told today someone would call with a price and come out. I waited until 4 30 and no call. I called the office at 4 45 only to find out they were too busy to cone out or even call. Unbelievably unprofessional. I explained if they were too busy to help just let me know and don't waste my time. The man told me he would call the office and find out what happened. Again I waited and no call. Finally I called the office and asked for a call back from an owner. The owner never called nor did the tech with a price on new water heater vs price for temp control valve. Instead the tech came out and replaced the temp control valve for a whopping 985 bucks! I found out a new water heater costs 1300. Highway robbery I suggest hit the highway and find a reputable and professional company. read more

I will never work with this company. I experienced an enraged driver of a this company's van, yelling explicatives and driving to endanger others (passing cars through a cross walk with flaggers) while waiting to let people park and walkers pass at a way point on Back Cove this morning. The driving was swearing so loudly and driving so quickly that numerous people turned their heads and were concerned with his irrational behavior. It was disturbing. read more

Impeccably honest, Patriot Mechanical sent someone to my house after I had a $10,000 bid to fix my heating system from another firm. After inspecting the system, and duct work for 30 minutes, the technician explained to me why none of the work really needed to be done and said "I guess I just talked myself out of a job." They were on time, called ahead, and very courteous. He came out to fix my oven and diagnosed it in no time. He noticed us bringing a fridge in through our garage and offered to help, then installed it for us even though it was not part of the original call. He also repaired a dishwasher issue at no cost.
