Surprise, found a little soup bloated gnat stuck to the inside of the container, along with visibly dirty bok choy. So, you know... can confirm. I wanted to like Patterson, a lone Chinese takeout in a sea of sushi places, but what we got were pretty mediocre across the board. The hot and sour soup was hot but not sour. The fish sauce eggplant and tofu stir fry had no fish sauce taste or sour/sweet taste. The chicken slices and vegetables stir fry featured a few chicken chunks, not slices. Also it tasted bland. It's really too bad. I was here about 5 years ago and had a memorable meal of eggs and shrimp. Something so homey and satisfying that it stuck with me all these years what when we went back to Vancouver, it was on our list for an inexpensive and easy meal. Unfortunately, we were so disappointed. It could be the pandemic, but the nice older man who was alone doing all the work in the place had far too much to handle. It was a super cold night, the place was freezing (not sure it's heated). The food took forever, but given that he was all alone, doing the work of at least 2, not surprising. More disappointing was the food. My memorable dish was forgettable this go around. It's a real mom and pop place and I hate to see a place like this fail, but perhaps it was just a bad night. DO NOT ORDER THE WONTON SOUP. This man does not care about his clientele. This is the second time ordering from this place and expecting a better outcome than the first but I was wrong. There are pieces of black fly remains found in the soup such as wings and dirt from the bukshoy assuming he doesn't wash it before using it in the soup. Absolutely disgusting. We stayed in a nearby hotel and were craving for some Asian food for dinner. Walked around and found this little eatery from its special lunch special sign. Skeptical at first but glad we tried out this place. We had Singapore noodle (#26) and Mixed Meat tofu hot pot (#74). They were both delicious and we left no dead soldier on the plates, eh! My friend and I ordered takeout. The chicken and corn cream soup costs $3 more than the plain congee, but both are in the same size container which I think it's unreasonable. The soup has either msg or too much pepper; both the soup and the congee are watery. The two dishes are fine (stir-fry fish with gai lan; tofu with meat and seafood hot pot) but the sauce for the hot pot is too dark. The staff at this place are friendly, and they gave us coupon to use for next time. However, we find two pieces of short hair - one on the edge of the plastic bowl and one on top of the plastic lid. It is a gross. They also didn't give us chopsticks, spoons nor napkins which is a little surprising. Do they think we would bring the takeout home and assume that we would have the utensils? Your classic hole in the wall Chinese take out joint. We chose this location due to its proximity to the condo we stayed in. On our visit it was run by a single chef who was really working hard. We ordered BBQ pork won ton noodle soup, beef and green beans in black bean sauce, and yang chow fried rice. All three dishes were C+/B- . I don't have 30 mins so I ordered the curry chicken and beef. While he's scooping the food in my container, he was being very cheap. He would purposely give me more potatoes and drop the meat back in the bin. He's being so cheap and rude doing that in front of me. For goodness sake if you scoop a spoon full of meat, give it to me. They delivered the food anyway and gave us $10 off so we took it The chowmein had hardly any meat in it and the noodles werent even cooked all of the food was stone cold! Only redeeming quality of this place was the house special fried rice, which was excellent. The black bean prawns was not bad either and at least had lots of prawns. Sweet n sour pork average at best. Chow mein awful and greasy. Spicy ginger beef about the same as you get in the grocery store delis, subpar. Spring rolls were extremely greasy and easily the worst I have ever had. Ordered take out over the phone. The gruf cook/owner said it would be ready in half hour. I gave him an extra 10 or 15 minutes and when I arrived to pick up, he hadn't even started cooking the order. Said it would be 5 or 10 more minutes. Waited about 25 minutes more, so all in about an hour and 15 minutes from call in order to actually getting the food on an original estimated cook time of 30 minutes. Portions were generous but mostly bland and greasy. Would not recommend or order from here again, with the exception of perhaps for the house fried rice only if in a pinch. read more

Ordered sesame chicken (no orange chicken), chow mien, and fried rice. Each set me back about $12.50. Be forewarned, the owner does not (will not) make 1/2 orders-- my youngest had a hankering for fried rice and I had to buy a full order for just her. Their lunch specials were pretty good deals, but you'd better like exactly what is on them. Their location isn't the greatest even though it's on a corner. It's kinda hidden back a little bit and as the evening approaches, some sketchy people would wander back into their little alcove/courtyard. This place is legit Chinese food. We're visiting from LA to Whistler. We not to the Sheraton late after a stop at Capilano bridge on the way back to Vancouver. It was 9:40 when I called and the guy was willing to deliver. His English is challenged and my Chinese is just as challenged. Beef chow fun, pork fried rice, pork and egg congee and Shanghai noodles with shrimp and pork. The whole family inhaled it all. The congee could have used a couple squirts of fish sauce for my preference but the family was fine with it. The dishes could use a little more meat but part of that is because he gives a lot of noodles and rice for each dish... and it's pretty cheap too. read more

I'm a huge fan of the eggplant tofu and the squid. They also have other options on the menu that are more typical of a Chinese restaurant as well. I'm staying at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel a couple of blocks away for work. I landed and went straight to the front desk to inquiry of local restaurants to order out. The gal recommended an Italian restaurant on Davies, two blocks away. I noticed the Patterson Wonton House and made an immediate detour. It was 30-something degrees today. What could be more perfect than a bowl of hot wonton noodle soup? I ordered the bbq pork wonton noodle soup and bbq pork fried rice to go - both under $20. The order took under 10 minutes to prepare and I was on my way back to enjoy hot, fresh Chinese food. The wonton noodle soup was excellent - fresh noodles, 5 wontons, big slices of bbq pork and bok choy. I definitely recommend adding soy sauce and the hot chili sauce. It comes in a convenient large plastic bowl. The bbq pork fried rice was fresh, a huge portion and definitely hit the spot. PLENTY of bbq pork. The service is great - the lady is very eager to please and recommend their large menu. The prices are reasonable, portions are large. I will definitely recommend and return. They will deliver to the Sheraton with an order over $25.00. Definitely give it a try. I would order off the menu, not the pre-made large portions. read more

Our Strata Corporation held a New Years celebration to cognizance our Chinese resident's Year of the Pig. We ordered food from Patterson Wonton House for Sunday at noon although the restaurant did not open until 5:30 pm the owner came in early to prepare the food. The food which was prepared for 45 people was delicious and plentiful with all comments from the participants being very positive. The owner was accommodating and very pleasant to deal with. We will be going back for more. read more
