This place is average. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. I ordered the Bistek a la mexicana. It was supposed to be steak marinated in salsa. It tasted more like it was marinated in tomatoes. My friends shrimp cocktail was good. All in all the food isn't terrible but not great either. I'd choose a taco truck before this. read more

I have been coming here for years..it never disappoints. They have a house Margarita that has more froth then a latte. It is good and satisfies. The food is good. Try the carnitas or stew. Chili rellanos skinny but delicious. If you like to eat outside...they have a wonderful patio. My friend (Dennis O.) and I both stopped there yesterday, almost by accident, pulling in front of it when we were going to pick up a few things at the nearby bakery. As we both were arguing over where we'd have a late lunch, we decided to give this place a try. We're so glad we did. This is the most authentically Mexican restaurant I've tried -- in Colorado. The meat was perfectly marinated, seasoned, and extremely tender. The beans and rice tasted like what I was raised on as a little girl. The chili relleno is among the better ones I've had, as well. Even the salsa was genuinely hot, rather than the "hot by Colorado standards" blandness I've come to expect. The prices were great and we still had leftovers. What truly impressed both my friend and I was how well all of the staff worked together, always checking for refills, always making sure we had what we needed. They really hustled at this restaurant, and we appreciated that. We even had the chance to visit with one of the owners, who gave us a history of the place and who we thanked for all of the wonderful food and service. If we lived in the area, we'd be regulars there (and at the neighboring Rosales Mexican Bakery, which is also getting a 5-star review). Patzcuaro is my new go-to place for Mexican food. It's a quaint little establishment right in the middle of Highlands. I had the chili verde and it was quite delicious. The staff was very friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be back to sample more of the menu, but the awesome chili verde makes me pretty confident that everything else will be great. read more

I love it; I spent a good amount of time trying to find good or even passable mexican food in Denver (I know it's here, it's just hard to find). This place has never disappointed. Try the Carnitas Michoacan; a perfect chunk of heavenly pork goodness, excellent guacamole, pico, etc., with some tortillas to make your own tacos. Everything else I've tried here has been pretty good, but the five stars is mostly for the friendly staff and the carnitas. read more

Paztcuaro's, I wanted you to earn more stars, unfortunately, I just didn't find it to be an overwhelmingly amazing experience. While Molls and I arrived prior to several tables, we were the last to get chips and salsa, water, and our food. This did not make for a pleasant first impression; however, I am forgiving. With only two servers for a pretty packed Thursday night, we were understanding about things running behind. We were gonna try a margarita, they are gigantic, but they didn't look overly fresh, so decided against it. The chips and salsa were good, and they offered to get us more chips for waiting so long, but we decided against it. The guacamole was yummy; fresh, cold, but not super fancy/acidy/cilantroy. I had a bean tostada and a flauta, and honestly, they were really good. I really wanted to just add a little something, a dash of hot sauce, something to spice it up because it was rather plain. But no one ever came to check and see that everything was alright, post-receiving our order. The server would not make eye contact with us, and my food was getting cold right before my ears/eyes/nose/mouth. I had to take a bite, and another, and another...until..it...was...gone. Whoops. I was also dying of thirst, and couldn't get my water refilled either. At the end, it was unclear if our server was our cashier, or if we needed to take the bill to the register. Turns out it was the former, in case anyone was wondering; we waited again for the server to take the bill. Waiting seemed to be the name of the game at Patzcuaro's, and the major annoyance of the evening. While the food wasn't knock your socks off, it is definitely good, and really affordable. I am sure we will try it again, maybe for a late lunch, so there is less wait and more contact with the server. Also want to try the fabulous looking patio during the warmer months, which may be April, given the weather this year. read more

Have I reviewed this place? I can't remember...perhaps I feel like I have b/c I think about it and crave it so often. I only have 2 complaints, not truly worthy of dropping a star in my book- all those amazing tacos don't come a la carte, as I would like to build a sampler platter. And they can't refill my chips and salsa fast enough. Not because they are slow, but b/c I enjoy eating their spicy salsa until my nose is running and my eyes are watering. The adovado platter is killer. I took a friend the other night who typically sticks to tex mex options, and as hard as it was, i actually shared a bite with her. She's hooked. I'm hooked. The cheese dip is a necessary evil that I somehow convince myself to order every time I go. No smalls allowed, and the huge bowl of cheesy goodness is my favorite in town. Caveat: order it early and then wait to order your meals b/c it takes them about 5 minutes to make it. But it is worth the wait. Anyways, this has surpassed rosa linda's in my book (who I hear is either closing or moving b/c squeaky bean is expanding). I have yet to find a better place in town. read more

Taqueria Patzcuaro represents everything that's good and holy and worthy of preserving in Denver. There need to be more places like Patzcuaro and fewer places describe themselves with juxtapositions like "mexican bistro" that have things like "mole sliders" on the menu. Everything on the menu at Patzcuaro is authentic -- if not to Mexico, then at least to Federal Blvd. That means this Mexican place has seafood but no "crispy tacos." I especially like the enchiladas rojas and the chili rellenos. But you can't go wrong and if you're feeling adventurous, you can try entres that have slow-cooked pork, steak, or even a fish filet. But don't bother with a margarita here, unless an oversized novelty margarita that tastes like mountain dew is what you're hoping for. I think they mostly serve beer and just have margaritas on the menu for gringos. read more

I know, I know. Everybody loves this place. But I can't for the life of me figure out why. Actually, when I first moved here and Taq Patz's neighborhood was Shady with a capital "S", it wasn't half bad. I always would get the Cabeza Tacos which were tender and delicious. However, since the neighborhood has gentrified, they got a liquor license, and all the hipsters fill the booths at this place, I can't stomach it. The last two times I've been there, my Cabeza Tacos have been fatty, stringy and chewy. The margaritas are so sickly sweet that I had to cut them with water to choke them down. Our tortilla chips were covered in salt and inedible. I had hoped that I'd just hit them on an off night, but now that its happened a few times, I can't waste my money when there are so many other great divey Tex-Mex joints in west Denver (e.g. Tacos Jalisco). read more

My boyfriend took me here last night and we both had great plates - I had the Milanesa con Papas and he had a Carnitas plate of some sort. Both were very tasty. I am not sure how long this place has been here, but I know he has been coming here for years. I only give 4 out of 5 stars because I feel that their prices are bit higher than what they ought to be.. but I guess that is the neighborhood. $28 for the two of us, no margaritas, just soda. Not horrible - but aren't decent Mexican restaurants a dime a dozen? Must be the yuppy neighborhood. I like this place because it is quiet, no jukebox blaring the same polka beat with some Caballero crying about his broken Corazon - same story, same beat, different song, but you can't tell! Sounds like it was the same song played 8 times to me. It was nice to have a dinner without the sobbing and weaping, I didn't leave feeling all emotional, like my relationship had just come to a tragic end. lol. My one and only beef, is I wish they made a salsa for white chicks dating Mexican men, something that didn't make your mascara run down your face upon first bite.. ya know, tomatoes, onion, peppers - not a green sauce that even the waitor agreed was "criminal" after seeing my expression. But we will be back , I am sure for the good food, great service, and quaint and quiet atmosphere. I recommend you give it a whirl. read more

I took my brother and his girlfriend here while they were visiting from New Jersey. My brother expressed he missed the good authentic Mexican food found in Colorado. After reading the many good reviews of this place, I figured I was making a good decision. My first impression of Taqueria Patzcuaro was a good one, we were seated at a very nice table on a gorgeous side patio. The ambiance was perfect for a long meal. The waiter was very nice, all smiles, and very attentive. Perhaps this was a reflection of our table's happiness and good attitude. The salsa that came with the chips was super duper hot, which suits me just fine, but others at the table were unable to eat it, and it was unfortunate that they didn't have a milder option available. Unfortunately the menu was not vegetarian friendly. There were very few options (which I suppose is to be expected when eating at an authentic Mexican establishment, but still, I've been to many MX restaurants with extensive vegetarian options -- there weren't even any veggie fajitas!). I ordered the bean burrito sans the pork green chile. Even then, I'm pretty sure the refried beans were full of lard, which doesn't go with my diet...but when in Rome. The burrito was pretty bland (likely due to lack of smothering), so I doused it in the salsa, which helped a little. We also ordered nachos for the table, it was a very moderate portion for the five of us, and again fairly bland. Everyone at the table ate something different, and the consensus was pretty much the same: meh...not terrible, but I've had way better. Luckily the food was very reasonably priced. We had a really nice time, and stayed until they closed the restaurant, and they were patient with us as we slowly made our way out. Good service, good company, great ambiance, okay food. read more

I love this place! I only wish we had discovered it earlier! The Green chile salsa is just hot enough, and the pico de gallo is AWESOME! We have been twice, and both times I was impressed with the great food, and QUICK service, which is important when you are eating with an infant. FYI, the highchair we were provided did not have a working strap, but our baby is old enough to sit in the booth with us, so it wasn't a problem...Maybe bring a carseat for a younger infant. The food is very simple and straightforward, but absolutely delicious. And very affordable,giant margaritas and dinner for 30 bucks for two. love the carnitas! read more

Being from Texas I'm way too spoiled with good Mexican food and found that the majority of the Mexican restaurants around aren't that great. No offense Denver but Texas got ya'll beat! And I ain't talkin about no g0d d@mn Tex-Mex either. Straight south of the border, Mexican food that would even bring the drug gangs to their knees. So I saw a review that rated Patzcuaro no. 1 in Denver and after I was done eating, I was thinking "Yo, quiero taco bell." Don't order the nachos, Fox and Hound serves better, and the tacos are ok. If you want real tacos, go down to Dallas to a gas station called Fuel City if you want the best tacos in you g0d d@mn life. read more

We finally tried this cozy neighborhood restaurant last night, and are glad we did. I had the carnitas tacos, which the waiter said are very popular there. I can see why! The carnitas was SO tender, it was melt in your mouth and perfectly seasoned. My g/f tried the caldo de res, and it was pretty decent. The meat and potatoes were very good, but the broth was really salty and she had to pass on most of it. The drinks were very good, nice and cold. The service has been very good- friendly, attentive, genuine. The patio is the place to be. I am not sold on the inside seating (the heavy bench booths seem awkward) so I am just enjoying their patio while I can this summer. read more

I was quite wary of this place when I heard we were going. Was going with colleagues who are much more adventurous eaters than I am, though I try. I was surprised early on by the place - great space, friendly staff, free wi-fi (!) and excellent food. We were a very chatty group of six that shut up when food arrived and didn't speak much again until much of the food was gone. Delicious. Prices were very reasonable, the only small drag was that after the food was delivered they sorta forgot about us. I would have liked to have had a drink or two more but since it took so long after getting our food to see another server, we skipped it and had drinks elsewhere. I came in here last weekend, and I gotta say that things aren't the same. Actually let me clarify that. I've been here twice in the last two months and it's been meh. First off, on both occasions, it's taken forever for a server to come and acknowledge the table. Last month when I came in, I had to actually wave the server down so that somebody could come take our order. This never used to be the case. After we got through that obstacle, I couldn't believe that ordering drinks would be an issue. When my family tried to order aqua de melon (cantaloupe water drink), the server let us know that they couldn't make it because the person who usually does it was out for the day. That and I guess they had apparently run out of ingredients. This seemed lame especially since part of the appeal for coming to this restaurant is the specialty aguas. The food part passed - receiving our main entrees. This is the only part that still gives me some hope. Thank goodness the smothered burritos still taste wonderful. But then we got to desert, and it got ridiculous again. We tried to order sopapillas and fried ice cream. The problem was that once again, you guessed it, they ran out!! My dad tried to laugh it off by cracking a joke, "Well I guess it is the end of the week, so it makes sense that everything is gone by now." The server thought this was funny too, but jokes aside, this issue is for real. With all of this in mind, it seems like service and management is getting sloppy. I've been coming to this place since I was a young boy, and this is the first time that I've noticed such a drastic change in service. I hope things get better soon! read more

3.5 stars: Patzcuaro's is a fun place to go. The folks there are enthusiastic and friendly. The food is authentic. (Although IMHO, the taquitos al pastor at Araujo's at 26th & Federal are better than anything offered at Patzcuaro's.) I love that they have lots of memorabilia at the restaurant -- one of my favorite trips ever was to the town of Patzcuaro, several years ago. Their story about the logo on their menu is especially meaningful because I was fortunate to see the Danza de Los Viejitos during an El Dia de Los Muertos celebration. A wonderful place to visit, with a rich history and beautiful traditions. read more

Mmmmmexican food, how I crave thee. Since moving to Denver I've been on a never-ending quest to find great Mexican food. I have heard nothing but good things about Patzcuaro's from my fellow Yelp friends, and was finally able to give it a shot. We arrived just before 9pm and were warned that the restaurant would be closing soon. We got our order in immediately, and chips and salsa were on the table in the blink of an eye. I ordered the Camaron Al Mojo De Ajo - a delicious garlicky concoction accompanied with rice, beans, and fresh tortillas. The shrimp was butterflied and perfectly cooked, and the sauce definitely had enough garlic to punch you in the face (in a goood way). I will definitely be back, but too bad the restaurant doesn't have later hours for all the bar goers -- I would love to quell my post drinking muchies here, so might be worth starting even earlier! read more

Holy Beef Cheek Tacos [Batman]! Having been craving killer Mexican food for some time, this sure did hit the spot. I DEVOURED my taco as well as a plate of Enchiladas Patzcuaro. The Mr and I tried Patzcuaro's yesterday for the first time...we will be returning. The $6 margarita is a damned fine thing - smooth and goes down wayyy too easily. Their green salsa served with the chips is a unique change from the standard red salsas or overly tamatillo-y greens found in most restaurants. Fajitas are in thinner strips, so any rareness is not an option, however it is very tasty. Home made corn tortillas, the Guac and pico are very fresh and tasty. The husband had the Tampequina (sp?) which comes with an enchilada. He found the dish to be ok when I asked as he was starting to eat, however, over time he started talking about what was flavorful and good about it, so while it may not have rocked his world, it was still a solid good. Atmosphere is laid back - the wooden booths actually end up being not uncomfortable. We did not visit the patio, but I imagine it to be a very popular place in the eves. Having lived in S TX for many years, we are often at a loss for finding GOOD Taquerias - Patzcuaro's makes the cut for us - we'll be back! read more
