My fiancé and I came here a couple of Fridays ago around 8 at night and there was ONE - ONLY ONE woman serving the entire place! She was bartending, serving food and she was the cleaner. How can a business allow this on a FRIDAY night!!! I had chicken fingers and French Fries and the servings were super tiny! Not to mention, our food had been ready waiting for 10 minutes and the waitress - because she was alone - took 30 minutes to get our food to us. My fiancé had the meatball parm, which was actually in a calzone and not on a hero -- it also upset his stomach the next day! The waitress never checked in on us and was understandably in a hurry like she just was just sailing through the place on her free will. The ambiance is nice and it wasn't too crowded but they need to do a better job with the food portions and shift coverage. Really great relaxed environment. Plenty of room for our party of 11 on a Saturday at 6. It was so nice out that I wish they had their rooftop open but was told it doesn't open until May. They were playing great music too, mostly from early 2000s hip hop and pop. Got 4 pizzas, salad and buffalo wings for 11 people. Just enough food, had only 3 slices to take home. I really liked the Hawaii pizza. I love pizza with pineapple on it and this one had bacon too and plenty of it. The margarita was Also very good. Had fresh cheese on it and I liked the flavor of the tomato sauce. The buffalo wings weren't too spicy. They were still crispy and juicy too. Also we all got drinks. Mama miaaa this place is gooood! Found it through JC restaurant week. They had great specials, 3 courses for $25. My favorite part was the pizza because oooo girl you could taste that brick oven. It tasted amazing: cheese, sauce, crust everything was a ten for me. We got jalapeño poppers and Mac n cheese as apps and they were pretty good but I think next time we'll just split a big pizza because that was the star of the show. And for dessert they had a boozy ice cream menu! So cool I've never seen that before. 2 of my fav things alc and ice cream yum. Service was friendly. Don't even think of booking a rooftop party in this place. The staff upstairs was nasty and rude. The evening was chilly and an older guest was cold so someone went down to the restaurant to buy a cup of coffee and was told they didn't sell coffee. They went next door to McDonald's and bought the coffee but was stopped from bringing upstairs by the rude staff. They also admitted people who were not guests! I read about this place through a few reviews, and people in the pro wrestling scene around Jersey City. I came down from Connecticut with my girlfriend for Jersey J Cup at the White Eagle. I took a special side trip all the way to Paulie's Brickhouse. I was NOT even close to disappointed. Mostly because I had stopped here last year for pizza after Jersey J Cup as well. We decided to sit at the bar because why the hell not? The pizza was even better than the last time. My girl got a white pizza, and I got a pepperoni pizza. It came out fast AF, hot AF, and perfect looking AF. The service was great as the bartender kept our drinks topped off the whole time. Let me start by saying the negative reviews are bogus! I've been to Paulie's twice and on both occasions, it was good. I will share this evening's experience. My boyfriend and I went for "one drink." Well one drink turned into an order of 10 wings and the Hamilton park pizza. The wings were SOOOO good. The pizza was good as well, if you're into bbq chicken, of course! The service was attentive and friendly. When we got our check, Paulie's wife came over and asked us if we would like to try their ice creams. She let us taste a couple and they were delicious!! Would recommend!! We also chatted with her a bit about life and what not and she was really sweet! Please give this place a chance. Dope little spot on a shady looking strip of jersey city. The service was perfect and friendly. It has a great divey bar feel to it with great selection of drinks. Brick oven pizza we ordered was on point with flavor and quality. Forgot to snap a pic of it cuz it was just too tempting once it was placed on the table. App was good too, nice flavor, just wish the cheese was more melted inside but nonetheless we still destroyed it lol. Tip: check in and you'll get a free empanada offer. I ordered takeout for pickup. Food: I ordered the chicken parm sandwich and calamari. The chicken parm sandwich was tasty and not a lot of sauce (which is what I enjoy). The calamari on the other hand was not the best. It definitely tasted extremely fishy and lacked any flavor with the seasoning on it. Service: I walked in and couldn't get the attention of the bartender. I walked past the bar to 2 waitresses. I had to interrupt both of them to inform I was there for a pickup. I asked where I need to wait and one waitress says stand anywhere and uses her hand to shoooo me. I said ok. A few minutes later, she brings the food over and plops it on the table I was standing near and walks away, not even addressing me. Also, there were only 2 tables seated and the bar was full. The last couple of years, Jersey City has added a pretty good selection of newer eateries. Paulie's is probably the latest addition that has been sprinkled around town. Opening up about 2 months ago. I've visited a few times now. Once for drinks on a Friday evening & midweek for a dinner with the Mrs. Let's start with the good... 9 large screen TV's are scattered around the bar area to catch your favorite sports team. Prices are very reasonable for both food & adult libations. Their pies are named after areas of JC. We ordered 2 pizzas, since they are a 12' variety. A downtown which had arugula, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, parmigiana, drizzled with truffle oil & a fried egg. Also went with a Westside, a meat lovers pizza that had sausage, pepperoni & meatballs. Both were very good. Even came home with leftovers. :) Roughly 15 beers on draft, plus numerous other bottle options for $5. I stress this place is lite on the wallet. Now the not so good.... Since it's so new, service can be a little spotty on the weekends. Hopefully they can work that out for the Friday to Sunday crowd that comes through here. Midweek doesn't seem to be that issue at all. We even made reservations on the app to avoid that little inconvenience after our first visit. And yes, save room for dessert. read more

I came here a couple weeks ago to celebrate a friend's engagement and I've never had a worse experience than this one. The view is great and all but the service was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. First of all, the food took a million years to come to us. We got some of our order after one hour, and waited a little bit thinking the rest would come, but it didn't. I'm a very patient person, so I let it slide and just let someone who worked there know that we're still missing some of our food. After another hour, some more food came but still not our entire order. I made the mistake of leaving my tab open and when I went to close it out.. there was a bunch of double charges and even charges for the food we never received. I thought to myself, "it's fine.. It's just a little mistake.. let me just ask them to fix it." When I asked them to take a look VERY NICELY, a bartender who never even took the table's order started yelling at me for a good 20 minutes saying I was lying and looked like she was ready to fight me for a good. I'm out celebrating my friends' engagement, why would I be out here trying to cause a scene?! One of the ladies working there was a tad bit nicer and did fix the issue, but the other girl never apologized for getting loud with me. Here I was trying to explain the situation and she was talking over me, and the entire bar was listening in. I still left a tip because I'd feel bad if I didn't, but boy I really shouldn't have. This place just opened so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars. It's one of the only bars on Central so that's definitely a plus, and the drink prices are fair ($3 Bud Bottles and $6 wine). They are definitely taking the "bar atmosphere" concept seriously, blasting house music the entire time. The only food that they have is pizza and wings so we ordered 6 buffalo wings, a pepperoni bar pie and a margherita bar pie. The wings weren't bad, but they barely had any sauce on them. They didn't even really taste like buffalo wings. The pizza wasn't bad either but they didn't give us any condiments. When we asked for condiments a waitress brought us salt and pepper. We then specified that we meant pizza condiments and the girl grabbed them off of another table that was still eating. There were only about 8 people in the entire place, and later while we were eating the bartender took the condiments away from us while we still had pizza left, so it led us to believe they only have one set of condiments. It was hard to get the attention of the bartender and waitresses because they were on their phones a lot, but when you did finally get their attention they were very nice. From what the bartender was telling me they had no intention of opening this year, but decided to have a soft opening just to see what people liked. Last night on my way home from work I decided to stop in and try it out. I sat at the bar & was welcomed right away. They seemed to have a crowd going & though seemed busy my drink was pretty good. I ordered the Newport pizza (they're named after áreas of Jersey City) & it was delicious, just the right size for a bar pizza. Went again for the second time & now they have almost like a speak easy on the adjacent building's roof. It has an AMAZING view of the city with a backyard party type feel. Really great spot. I stopped in for a Pizza, the Margherita - it's called, The Heights on the menu. Wood Oven pizza is some of the best. Their sauce had great flavor too, which is important. Came here on a Sunday afternoon to watch a basketball game. Opted for the Newport pizza and buffalo wings. The Newport was delicious, it included chicken, prosciutto, mushrooms, mozzarella and vodka sauce. I highly recommend this bar pie. The wings were also tasty accompanied by the usual blue cheese or ranch selection. The beer selection was vast and had many goodies to choose from. The one thing I believe they can upgrade is the hard liquor and add some Jameson, Jack Daniels or Hennessy to the collection just to appease the community. This is a nice home bar. They have a few good options in terms of food. The wings and shrimp hit the spot. My first draft beer(Yuengling golden) was way too watered down. Very friendly and attentive but not overly so. Good selection of standard beers on tap (Blue Moon, Fat Tire, Sam Adams, etc.), all for about $6. Also reasonably priced cocktails and shots--will have to try next time. Wings and fries are available (BBQ wings juicy and big--$7 for 6 plus $1 per additional wing) but pizza is main attraction (obviously). We got the Downtown, which was delicious. Now the first bartender was great, very attentive. Unfortunately that can not be said of her replacement. First she got our food order wrong, he ordered the GRILLED CHICKEN and he got CHICKEN PARMESAN. He let it go by telling her he wasn't a ran. When we asked for the checkzshe was very prompt. Once we got it ,I had my card out to pay. It took another 15 minutes for her to make her way back to us. The property is very warm meaning by its atmosphere. I suggest if you have never been there, then give it a try because you will be going back. Summary: lots of growing pains...lots to improve upon. Anytime a new place opens in the Heights, my bias and subconscious immediately wants to love it. When you think of restaurants and bars in JC, you invariably think of Downtown, and I think the Heights could use a few good places of its own. I visited this place twice over the past month or so - the 1st time just for drinks, and the 2nd time for dinner on a Friday night around 8pm. For starters - the music was blaring, making it difficult to have a simple conversation. I asked someone if they could turn it down, and they said they would ask, but nothing happened. I ordered food around 750pm. Nothing extravagant; since their menu is very simple (which I like - in theory it makes preparation quicker), I went for 2 personal pizzas and an order of fried calamari. It took literally 50 minutes (I timed it) for the food to come out - both pizzas and the calamari came out together. That's simply unacceptable. Someone (manager? owner?) came out to apologize for the wait, stating they were short staffed that night. The calamari was crispy, but totally lacking in flavor. The veggie pizza was passable. The best of the 3 items was my margherita pizza. However, I could have gone next door to ole reliable Pizzamasters and gotten the same things much more quickly (and more deliciously). I gave them a 2 star rating only on account of growing pains / missing cooks that evening / my bias for Heights establishments. But I don't see how you can set up shop a stone's throw away from the best pizzeria in Jersey City and hope to compete with such a subpar offering. PS to the management - in Hoboken recently, a bartender accidentally charged me for someone else's tab. He apologized immediately and bought a round of drinks for me and my buddy for the inconvenience. That is how you handle inconveniences for customers: a free dessert, a free drink - anything other than "oh sorry, we're really busy". read more
