Great selection, was able to find the hardware and obscure socket extension that I needed. Staff was friendly and available.

You are no longer allowed to be in the room when they cut wood for you, you are also not allowed to see the wood you are getting until you have already purchased it. You buy it, leave the building, go to the back of the shopping plaza where you show them a receipt and tell them how you want it cut from the parking lot. They came out to double check the measurements I gave them several times, which could be avoided if I was just in the room with them. Better off driving twenty minutes to Home Depot where you can pick out your own wood and have them cut it five feet away. I asked them specifically for ACX plywood but instead was given osb plywood. read more

Just like the Scottsdale, Via Linda Store, Fountain Hills is even better because of the extra inventory they have. Just a great personal experience every time. Prices are competitive to HD, but without the hassle of a giant store. Everyone is friendly, and if you use the coupon you get the more you shop, you can really save a good amount of money over time. Sad to say, the cons outweigh the pros. A few examples: while one manager simply ordered an out of stock item for me (quick, simple, done), another manager spun a long story. I'd have to call again the next day and talk to the one person who took special orders, then I'd wait depending on the supplier's routes. Why would he believe this was a good solution for me, when I could drive another ten minutes and buy at another hardware store? Why couldn't he simply take the order like the other manager???? Similar scenarios play out repeatedly at this store. In fact, on one occasion, another customer pointed out the more helpful employees. Different examples, the sales prices on the signage are often different from what is rung up; this also happens repeatedly. Another example, the store lacks products that are frequently bought and normally found at other hardware stores, like foil-faced foam board (i.e. Perma"R", Johns Mansville, TUFF-R). Insulation products should be much more varied and available especially where we live. Out of all the ACE employees, 4 have stepped forward to help me. That means, at par for the course. For the rest, why does it seem customers like me are a burden? Considering the inconsistent customer service, prices are often not competitive with other stores. I've only provided a few examples to keep this review short and not even compared product selection and prices with online stores. read more

Ace Hardware to the rescue! I walked in the other day in need of parts to fix my toilet. I noticed I needed to replace float with rod. As soon as I walked in, looking so confused, a staff approached me if he could be any help. I said I needed to fix my toilet. He walked me to the toilet section and asked me what I needed to do. I didn't know the name of parts needed to be replaced, so I pointed a picture of the toilet float and rod, explaining this rod needs to be replaced. He explained to me that was an old style and much cheaper option without a float is now available. (Called fluidmaster). While they still sell old style parts, he recommended that I get cheaper and better replacement! I thanked him and walked over the cashier to pay for this and walked out. I think I was at the store for less than 10 mins. I came home, watched the YouTube a couple more times, read the instruction like 5 times. After I somehow successfully fixed my toilet, I had to lay down from all the stress of fixing the toilet, I told myself, I needed to write a good review for helping me pick the right parts. It is so nice to know that friendly and helpful hardware store is in town. While I don't really enjoy fixing around the house but I know I can count on them to supply the parts and advice I need. read more

I'd rather drive over to Home Depot in Scottsdale. Some workers are helpful like Field, others can be extremely rude. Today dealt with an older man who said some inappropriate things. Staff is very attentive, sometimes too attentive, I like to browse and find things I didn't know I needed. This store stocks an amazing variety of items. As far as problem solving, it's hit or miss. Most times, I can solve a product unavailability issue with creative substitutions when the the personnel can't figure it out. Thank goodness the variety of items makes it possible. Okay, so I'm not really the "hardware" handy-woman, DIY sorta gal here. But, I do shop there for certain things and have never had a bad experience there. I've had keys made, bought A/C filters, and Round-Up. I particularly love Paul's because they carry the pink Holy Cow cleaner!! This magic, all-purpose concoction is hard to find around these parts, you see. I thought it was just hog wash at first, until I used it on stains that wouldn't lift, or on scuff marks on my garage door. Plus it doesn't smell offensive. And, the pink color adds to my cleaning experience as well. Ha ha Staff are helpful and always so cheery when I go to pay. But I start w/my wisecracks and make them smile so that helps too. And, it smells SOOO good in there - like a typical hardware store. Think a combination of bird feed, new hardware, tiny amount of paint, and fresh lumber maybe? It sounds gross, but it's such an intoxicating smell for me, so I love visiting there. read more

Today I purchased 12 items at Paul's Ace Hardware. The cashier rung up the items and made errors on 5 items with wrong quantities and prices. I Provided a 10 percent coupon and it was mis-recorded as a $10.00 credit. The total amount over-charged was about $25.00. I summoned the Manager to resolve the problems and he defended the cashier and was ambivalent about her deplorable customer service. I had to have the assistant manager to refund the entire order and ring everything up again correctly. Because of the very incompetitant cashier and Manager with a poor attitude I will never shop at this store again and will shop at Home Depot and Lowes in Scottsdale. read more

I went to this ACE on occasion with my family when I was in high school and visiting from college, and then I pretty much forgot about it. Then this past holiday season, I wanted to surprise my mother and do the outdoor Christmas decorations while she was out of town. I rolled up to the family casa with everything I thought i was going to need... turns out I was short on several accounts and I did not want to drive back into Scottsdale. A quick search on Yelp, and Paul's Ace to the rescue. I got what I needed on the first, in and out, trip of the day. However, after getting the basics done I was feeling rather accomplished anddd inspired by things i had seen in the store (dangerous), so back I went. The staff was really friendly and available to answer the multitude of questions that my foray into intermediate outdoor Christmas lighting came with. Since then i have used ACE for several other random projects, and would rather go to them from the start now vs coming quasi prepared from bigger box stores. They have good variety and a surprisingly large selection of items (more than you would think would fit into the store) and you aren't paying an arm and a leg for it. According to my mother, their propane tank swap out is competitively priced, and convenient. For me their staff is always available, and they aren't shy with suggestions. I also got the feeling that they recognize a lot of regulars and the same people have worked there for awhile. A bit of that old time Hardware store charm, in a strip mall if you will. P.S. This hardware store is one of the best I have been around. Brandon Timmons, the manager, keeps the store clean and orderly and all the associates are more than happy to help you. In a big box store when you ask for directions you get sent in the general area of what you are looking for, at this store the associate takes you to the item you asked about, and he makes sure it is what you actually want. I bought a key fob and it needed matched to the car, a Chrysler 300. Audie Stevens jumped right on it and made sure everything was working fine. He even brought my 2 old fobs back to life. He went way over and above. I will be sure to use this store again and would advise anyone that wants to patronize a store that has your best interest in mind, go to the Paul's Ace Hardware in Fountain Hills. Just called Paul's Ace Hardware to pick up another several gallons of paint before they close. The person who answered the phone said his name was Scott and he was the manager and they never accept paint orders over the phone. We have been buying paint from this location for several months and on numerous occasions we have called in advance so we can pick it up. We are in their computer system and they just look up our information and the paint is ready to go when we get there. We normally would speak to a manager if we had an issue, but this person who called himself Scott assured us that he was the manager and refused us the service we normally get at this location. Now we know why so many people go out of the Fountain Hills area to purchase goods and services. We will discontinue all business with Paul's Ace Hardware from this time forward. During a pandemic, ordering items for pickup is a safe way to do business, not at Paul's Ace Hardware! See no need to return to your store, Dave's Ace Hardware is a great place to shop. read more

This little store in Fountain Hills has rapidly become my favorite hardware store. Yes their prices are higher (sometimes much higher) than Lowe's or Home Depot. However, it's the service that brings me back every time. Their staff treat their customers with dignity (instead of hassling you for the idiotic mask). They help me find the most unique items that the larger stores don't even carry....they help me test my batteries.... you name it, they're willing to do it and with a smile! I just went into Ace, maybe it's because I 'm a woman, but there were three employees standing talking at the front door as I was walked in, no one says a word to me they were too busy talking to each other to ask me if I needed help. I ask them if they were just decoration or could I get some help. Jesse said all I had to do was ask...Ah..no I worked retail as long time. Customers should not have to find and ask for help as three employees stand around he front door. Turns out Jesse didn't know the difference between a toilet shim and ones for book cases and they didn't have the right ones anyway. Not Impressed at all. Had a great Ace back home. As I going to buy a barbecue and table, but I didn't think after having to hunt down help that any one could answer my questions. When he arrived I explained the very personal nature of the issue and he did apologize on behalf of the employee. I've been going to Ace for more than 40 years. Today they lost a customer. Fountain Hills Ace Hardware is the nicest small town Hardware store with amenities of larger Big Box stores. Service may be just a bit slow when in a hurry, however the floor employees are almost always with other customers. In a really big hurry? Head back to the service desk and ring the bell. Be prepared to be helped. Also exit the far back auto doors and there is always a hard working employee more than willing to take you to the exact product you need or find the person that can. If you are waiting more than a minute or two and getting impatient than it's all on you. Get some popcorn and relax.. I've shopped this Paul's for 20 years any issue I ever needed resolved they absolutely went out of the way to help. If they don't have an item for you they most generally will in about 48hrs or less.
