The cutest little spot! The seating and tables are limited, but truly make this cafe a wonderful spot to crab a coffee or lunch (which we were) with friends or a date! The staff were all super lovely and friendly. My only complaint is that the coffee wasn't great. I got a large iced coffee with cream and sugar, but it was too bitter for me. I normally like a darker roast and I love that they rotate their coffee beans for variety of flavors, but I didn't love this one. I then ordered the fresh mozz on a sesame bagel which was delicious! Time for an update! I recently came back to the OG Pavement, on a quiet summer morning after the semester wrapped up. The vibe is chill, still with the cool mix of furniture and tables for conversations or solo work. Since it's post school year, I'm missing the clog of students and instruments, but it's a nice place to stretch and think. I got an iced latte with almond milk. We were staying in Boston and had a couple of mornings we needed a place for breakfast. We found two establishments we chose mainly due to proximity. Of course, we go to Yelp for all of our out-of-town dining needs! This particular morning we chose Pavement coffeehouse. They are really straightforward in the ordering process. They take your name then your order. So we go back to a seat sort of in the back of the coffeehouse waiting for our name to be called. (Nothing else available by the ordering counter) There's music playing, maybe a little louder than normal. But EVERYONE had earbuds on because they are in their element of school, work or simply enjoying what they want to listen to. 15 minutes or more pass by and I've seen a half dozen or so grab their order, maybe hearing a name being called faintly during that time. I think it would be easy to hear the name "Jeff". Certainly my wife seated next to me would also be keen to hear my name being called. So I finally walk up and see my order setting on the front of the store counter like it is a pick up order for a delivery like Grubhub or Uber Eats. I asked if someone called my name. Of course they tell me yes. I'll tell you, if they did, we did not hear it. We picked it up and ate outside, because it was very cool in the coffeehouse. It was very pleasant with a nice breeze outdoors in their seating area. So with all this wait, we literally took a bite before I realized no pics. Sorry for those shots of food with 1 bite removed. Overall, it was ok. It fit the need for food fuel at the time. It was warm, but tolerable after setting for several minutes. The jalapeño bagel was a 0 on a scale of 0-10 in the category of spicy. So if you're expecting just a little kick, you're not going to get it. Both bagels have an egg, bacon Vermont cheddar cheese. I think it both bagels were $11 each. The food and coffee were tasteless and bland and the customer service was quite bad with rude people working the counter.

I came with my friend who was going to a yoga class so we found this coffeehouse as I needed my coffee for the day while waiting for her. Cute place, it is comfortable and very cozy if you want to sit and relax or just read your favorite book. But it is very crowded as other people have the same idea. I was walking in the back and you find comfy big chairs, couches, tables with regular chairs. They do have outlets for your electronics. Lots of people and local college students come to hang out or study as it's right near the Berklee School of Music. You just have to wait to find a place to sit. They have iced, to hot coffee. Muffins, and other deserts on the menu. They do have lots of house-made bagels and cream cheese which looked yummy. I saw some lunch sandwiches as well. The lady behind counter was very friendly. I try to get skim milk with my coffee. She assured me they have low-fat milk. The coffee was to my liking. I find new coffee places, and the coffee is either too strong or just not tasty. We visited Pavement on a Sunday at about 10 AM and although there was limited seating, the line was only about 5 deep. I stuck to the house made bagel and had a toasted everything with light cream cheese. The bagel was really good. Toasty on the outside and chewy on the inside. I also had a drip coffee and as others have suggested, it was good but not great. One thing I should mention is that even though it wasn't very busy, they informed us that it would be 20 minutes before our order would be ready. It seems as if there was a fair amount of delivery/pickup orders which could have accounted for the time. I appreciated the transparency! The good communication is a good sign. If in the area for lunch, I would come back and have a sandwich. Then again, the lox sounded really good too and I could do that for breakfast or lunch! read more

I stopped by for lunch on a weekday while my phone was getting fixed at the Apple Store (hence no pictures). The cafe is cozy and on the smaller side, but it wasn't hard to get a table. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese and a coffee. I was a little surprised by how long the bagel took to come out since there was no one ahead of me in line but I'm guessing they were fulfilling online orders. My bagel was very good. Chewy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and double seasoned. If I had any complaints it would just be that it was a little small. Coffee was okay. This is a nice coffee chain where you can have a nice study session or sit and chat with friends. Because its location is situated in a busy area, the store does get a lot of traffic, so if you prefer a quieter study area, this might not be the place for you. The items are quite affordable - way better priced than other coffee chains. However, my friend who is a coffee connoisseur did not like their coffee that much. I did order the matcha latte which I thought tasted good. Their chocolate croissant was also good, but I thought it just had a lot of powdered sugar topping. I visited this place 3 times! Always on Saturday morning, around 9-10am and always ran to a huge line! Which shows how great the place is(although the wait is annoying) I always make my own bagel. I was very pleasantly surprised about this Pavement Coffeehouse location, especially compared to some of their other locations around Boston. Immediately after stepping inside I realized just how big this place is - it has several tables and funky chairs for customers to sit in, as well as a designated area for to-go orders, which is something you don't see too often in this area. I was also very pleased with my lox sandwich on a sesame bagel, which tasted very fresh and left me full. I would definitely consider stopping back again for a quick bite to eat, and would probably take advantage of ordering in advance for even quicker service. read more

This is about the Berklee location. Used to be great, but the current staff is terrible. All they do is socialize and look at their iPhones, and barely acknowledge the customers unless they are personal friends. Meanwhile, a number of customers who ordered online are standing at the counter waiting for someone to acknowledge their presence. When they finally do notice the customer waiting for their order, they do it with a resentful attitude, as if the customers are an intrusion into their day. Also, I order online, and lately they've gotten the order wrong every single time. How hard is it to make a bagel as detailed in the order? If I wanted egg with it, I would have said so. My stomach hurts so bad, like I had one bite of my bagel and a couple of sips of my chai, and I am in so much pain. I now have to go and spend an additional $20 to buy Pepto Bismol to try to relieve the pain because it is so bad. Before you say, try and use the bathroom. I only ended up here because my friend wanted to get coffee on Marathon Monday and it was the closest spot. Cute inside, but unfortunately due to the marathon and a Red Sox game that was going on the spot was really low on supplies. The girl at the counter was super patient and friendly about the whole 'we're out of most things' situation which was less stressful (because I typically feel more rushed when I have to change my order in an instant). They were out of most of their dairies, most of their coffees, and bagels. I just wanted a sandwich and the one I got was pretty good actually. I am usually hesitant to enter cafes in the city on weekend mornings as it usually means heavy wait times and lack of seating, but I was surprised to see that the service went quick and I was able to find a place to sit. I can't say that it's better than a coffee from Dunkin' Donuts, but this place definitely has a nicer ambiance which attracts customers. Food: Pavement food is delicious. Their bagels, pastries, drinks (I've tried iced lattes, iced mochas, iced Spanish lattes, iced/hot matchas) - ALL delicious. You can't go wrong with anything you get, but it IS certainly expensive. It's more of a once in a while/special treat kind of thing, but be careful as there are many locations around Boston and it is not the most budget-friendly. Store: A lot of college kids come to study here, and it seems like a common spot to "grab coffee" or for kids to just chat. Usually the stores are packed, so I could never focus or study there. HOWEVER, the last star was missing in my review because their store (especially Northeastern's location) was DIRTY. I have never been to a Pavement with a clean bathroom, and their tables generally (Before , during AND after COVID) were never cleaned - I always saw crumbs, food bits, straw wrappers, used tissues and stuff like that lying around - gross. Also their bathrooms... ew. I would've expected more honestly from a place which is a bit more on the $$ end. read more

Went to Pavement this morning for breakfast and ordered the Pesto Presto and a Death Cream coffee. They don't have indoor seating right now, which is understandable but difficult because it's so cold out and there was nowhere to sit. The bagel was one of the best bagels I've had in Boston, although they cut it very strangely (not down the middle). It was also pretty cold by the time I got to eat it (because of the lack of indoor seating). The coffee was incredible - I would recommend the Death Cream to anyone who likes sweet coffees! read more

No matter what I automatically spend 10+ dollars for a a bagel and a bev. Also they are SO SMALL. Came here for brunch around 11 and ordered a large iced coffee and hummus bagel. While my coffee only took a minute or two to come out, my bagel took 30 minutes to be made. I understand that they are quite busy since the place was pretty crowded, but 30 minutes to assemble a bagel was a bit too long. My friend also ordered a multigrain bagel with cream cheese -- even simpler than my order and his took 30 minutes to come out too. While the baristas are really friendly and the ambiance of the place is nice, it lacks seats and the bagels take too long to come out. I will give this place another shot in the future since their bagels were very tasty, but be wary of ordering food here if you're in a pinch. read more

I understand the name of this establishment now that I've waited 35 minutes for a bagel. I've literally become part of the Pavement! But seriously, this coffee house needs to decide if it's an online supplier or servicing their local customers. The line is out the door, for both ordering and pickup. There were huge orders sitting there for Internet customers who hadn't even picked up. The staff is apathetic, unless you count the photos the baristas were joking about on their phones. In the middle of a 9 am rush I watched one go on break (for a store that opens at 7 am). Also the food line employees kept switching positions. I'm no restaurant expert, but one would think you would keep the same people doing the same thing in the middle of such a rush? The owners should fire all these kids and bring in some NYC immigrants who will literally rush you out the door after throwing you your bagel. I went here hoping to try something different than Dunkin or Starbucks. Sadly I would have received better service from corporate America. And that says a lot. read more
