When I got home, the raw chicken wasn't even in the bag I put it in and they put all the heavy stuff in one bag so that the handles rip. This Pavilions gave me one of the worst experiences I've ever had as a customer with a service dog. My service dog accidentally urinated in the store. A male employee politely helped me clean it up, but the female greeter at the entrance (Asian appearance) made nasty remarks and looked at me and my service dog with open disgust. Later at checkout, about five or six employees stood around one register, stared at me with cold, judgmental looks, and not a single person said "thank you" or "have a good day." The whole atmosphere felt openly hostile and, in my opinion, discriminatory toward a customer with a legitimate service animal. I understand store policies as she claims she knows, but to execute the information with such a negative attitude (or how we interpret it as negative) but to be at Starbucks 4x-day and your location is the only one that claims this "store policy" is a bit confusing and to top it off with such poor customer service - staring this review so that it may be addressed. Her delivery and customer interactions are only consistently poor based on our four interactions in the last two weeks. Starbucks "policy" problem solved- we just go a half block over to Starbucks But for the record- it is not the way anyone would want to start their visit at your entrance if they stop for their Starbucks fix first as we'd done- if there is a way to address the falling customer service quality, she's a good start.- read more

My husband and I parked here for 3 hours to grab groceries and stop by a friends beach house. There was a Pavillon security guard named Sergio that ensured us we would not be towed since it was only 3 hours. We came back 2.5 hours later and our car was towed, costing us $620. As far as a grocery store goes, it's a grocery store. Nothing amazing (unless you count all the liquor, since I'm from Utah it's the best part.) they don't have everything you could ever want but they do have a pretty good selection available. Their bakery made me with I could pack the car with goodies. I was visiting from out of town and it was just a quick walk from our hotel. It was perfect for those last minute things you forgot to pack or a quick treat. I had a fruit tart, which was probably my favorite. The fruit was fresh and the tart shell was so soft and buttery. I also had a lemon tart, surprisingly creamy with a nice lemon flavor that wasn't overpowering. Lastly I tried this cheesecake, drizzled in chocolate with a massive strawberry. It was super rich and creamy. Tasted freshly baked and had a good amount of crust. read more

Our rental beach house was packed with 19 people and Pavilions was an easy drive that provided the grocery essentials for all of us. They had everything we needed to keep the house hydrated: water, milk for the kids, soft drinks for the meals, etc. Their wine and alcohol bottle section is pretty extensive for a grocery store. We hit the breakfast basics, chips and snacks section pretty hard and they had something for everyone. All the fruits in the fruit section looked very fresh and clean. Also, the poultry and meat sections were impressive as we were able to find some Snake River Farm cuts to cook at the house. The checkout process was pretty quick as there was a designated bagger and the cashiers worked quickly. The guys in the meat section were super friendly and got our cuts prepped as promised within 10 minutes. Everyone overall seemed pleasant. In our beach house, we had: vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, boozers and gamblers and there wasn't anything on the grocery list that Pavilions couldn't cover. The prices are retail because of the location convenience but they are the best option imo if you're renting by the beach. ENjoy! read more

This large grocery store is the Best large grocery store on the Balboa Peninsula. Wait a minute...It's the Only Large grocery store on the Balboa Peninsula. Shop here or starve. I stopped in here twice yesterday for cold water it was so hot outside--the record hottest day ever. And bless these great people for have very cold Arrowhead Lemon Sparkling Spring Water--it was ecstasy pouring that into a parched overheated David. Went back 2 hours later for another. It is a nice updated grocery store that gets quite an eclectic shopping crowd depending on season and day of the week. It's 1 block from the beach with a large free parking lot while shopping. It is Newport Beach where many peeps are resistant to wearing masks so be careful--security both times I was there was getting on people for no mask. As one guy was telling another guy outside the store--"I pay a fortune to live in Newport Beach--you think I am going to wear a mask? They think the virus is here in Newport--look at that woman with a thong on--does she look like she has a virus?" read more

Overheard two employees talking that their colleague called off for being sick but the manger "wouldn't let them" and made them come in anyways . Employees wearing masks but zero even attempted enforcement for anyone else. Most customers are compliant, but every oldster in a red hat or basic Newport Beach 2nd wife in Lululemon yoga pants isn't and flexing about it, and not told to put one on. *Have to wear a mask to go in (but not really). I'm gonna go in pants-less next week and see if same rules apply. Most employees are pretty good, Robin is the best, not sure why management is jeopardizing the safety of dedicated employees like her and others. If a rule isn't enforced it's not a rule... I went to buy a few things because I was in that area and Levi was the most helpful person in that store that day. It was a around the day before July 4th and I was impressed with how clean the store was and most importantly the fried chicken from the deli I bought was super delicious! I would definitely come back for the chicken from the deli! Since I rarely shop that store I can honestly say I don't mind going out of my way just because I know Levi would be one of the employees who I can count on not to be rude. And I am going back to buy more of the fried chicken. I have to say though that when I do go back inside I hope the prices will have dropped a little. Despite the often hectic beach traffic, the store manages to operate as you'd expect from any successful major grocer. It is clean, staffed, and stocked. I use it as my weekly store despite the seasonal traffic. I'm writing because on 7/3 I experienced an understandable mistake with an online order. I attempted to address the issue through the general Pavilions customer service line but the matter was deferred to the store (for confirmation before any resolution). I called the store directly and was quickly transferred to the appropriate authority who immediately and unequivocally resolved the issue. A+ service from store management. read more

This review is only for the service deli. They're sandwich board advertises several signature sandwiches and build your own with artisan ingredients. However, they never have the ingredients to make half of what is advertised. They consistently tell me they are out of the meat or bread that I want. When I settle for a boring sandwich with what they have, it is flavorless, and the bread is stale. Sushi is ok but anything with tempura shrimp is soggy and overbreaded. Service is also slow. This is a busy market because of the houses and the beach across the street and they need to staff up the service deli. I have to stop ordering their sandwiches but unfortunately, they are so convenient for me, I will probably get another sandwich and regret my decision again. read more

Love the patriotism shown in this plaza. Love seeing American flags and the pride displayed in Newport Beach. It was refreshing. Some workers did not show good customer service at the deli, however. We'd wait in line for a while only to be dismissed. A Hispanic older male was helping a Hispanic couple, laughing with them and enjoying a conversation with them in Spanish. When it was my husband's turn, the Hispanic worker walked away. My husband stood there being ignored. It was so rude, but I'm not surprised. So, one Hispanic guy ignited him and walked away, and two other Hispanic guys just stood there talking to each other, without acknowledging my husband. My husband is Caucasian. Had he been Latino, I'm pretty sure the worker would have helped him happily like how he helped the previous couple. Ended up getting premade sandwiches because we didn't want to deal with bad service. They were good though would have been better with mustard and mayonnaise. Went to the meat counter to get ground beef. Asked the butcher for 2 lbs & he grabs out all of the ground beef with his bare hands and slaps it on scale. He says is 3 1/4 pounds ok. No I want 2 lbs. It was disgusting. He then grabs the excess with his bare hands and throws it back in to display. I DID NOT BUY IT. I told cashier. She said she would tell manager. Can't get it out of my head. I have brought this up to the management a few times? It's a beautiful store beautiful location. Great deli, great bakery, great meat section. But more than 50% of the time when I use the restroom it is a complete disaster. I have brought it up to management too many times for it not to be fixed. When you walk into a restroom at a grocery store you would hope that it would be clean and shiny to reflect that the staff does care about the cleanliness of the whole business. The Pavilions Deli Dept is absolutely the BEST. I wish I could give it more than 5 Stars! I have used their cater services for several events and the Pavilions Deli Dept is always my one stop shop. They listen to what I want, they make great suggestions and they have never failed to deliver the best food trays, fruit trays, salad trays, etc. Their prices are reasonable and the products are always freshly made and ready for pickup. The people in the Deli Dept are friendly, knowledgeable and great to work with while planning a menu for an event. read more

But it is so distressing to see young women (often girls, appear to be under 18) coming straight off the beach with barely any clothes on. Bikinis that barely cover the bits that have to legally be covered. No dress code here - " not at the beach." I would not be comfortable coming here with kids. Seemed like I was in a grocery store in my hometown. Biggest difference was all the luxurious cars in the parking lot, and the ladies in swimsuits. This is my local Pavillions, and despite it being here well over a year it hasn't been added to until now. Just a few blocks from where I live, this has become my go to place for when I need a few simple things, or have forgotten a key ingredient to what every recipe I'm in the middle of making. The staff is mostly friendly, and always helpful. It can get busy here during the weekend when people are heading to the beach, but so is this whole area. That said, during those busy times, it's probably the easiest place to get in and out of. The parking lot is good size and there are some other services that share the lot. A chase bank and Gallo's subs to name a few. Yeah, it's a big giant corporate grocery. But living near, I've found that you get a little of that old Ma and Pop store feeling with some of the staff that recognize you. They will go out of the way to order some strange product, or restock something that you love. A good example was last year around New Years I was making Collard Greens, and they were out of those wonderful smoked turkey wings I use to flavor it. I stopped by the seafood/meat counter and explained. Without hesitation the gent behind the counter explained that they were a seasonal item, but he could order them If I wanted. I did, and in a few days they were available. He was even nice enough to have set aside some for me. Cool stuff. I didn't expect that at all. They also carry a huge variety of beer if that's your thing. Which makes sense due to their location. What I love most about this place is they don't complain when I come in barefoot. Gotta love that....sometime I simply can't be bothered with pesky shoes. read more

The 60 ish , brunette hag, fatigued looking, very homely, checkout lady, so rude she should be fired. She Closed out the store midnight, Thursday the 12 th of July, was screaming at me cause I needed to get one more item to add to my $100 bag of overpriced purchases. Something real shady is going on with the Pavilions Card "points" at this store. I've shopped here for the last 22 yrs, and for most of those years the "Rewards card readers" at this Pavilions store only work half the time. So if you want the posted shelf savings, earn Reward Points, and use use these points/credits for additional savings, you'll have to store checker to scan your Pavilions/Vons card with the scanner behind the check stand - which always seems to work. And sometimes they'll use a "phantom card" they keep behind the check stand to scan your purchase rather than your card. I hadn't really been paying attention to just how often when the card scanner does't work, and the checker offers to scan your purchase with that "phantom card" behind the check stand rather than your card. And when they use the phantom card, you are NOT getting the Rewards Points. Last Friday July 17th was spending about $125 and had my smart phone out in hand with the Vons App opened up as I wanted to make sure I received the correct savings from two items I purchased with Reward Points. But before I could insert my Pavilions Card, the checker jumped in & scanned my purchase with her "phantom card." When I questioned why she did this, she dismissed my concerns. And then I pressed her to credit me for the $5 in rewards saving I was supposed to get. When I asked about my new Rewards Points on my $94.20 purchase, she said I would NOT get them. And was very casual about it, alerting me that she likely does this all the time. When I complained, she called over a supervisor who took me & my bagged groceries to an empty check stand & began removing and re-scanning my groceries - all without gloves. By this time I was pretty upset & lectured him on the additional covid-19 he was putting me thru. As a result, when I got home I ended up wiping all of my groceries down with a bleach-soaked cloth, and left them out on the counter to air dry. Then I called the store to complain, and a manager called me back. She downplayed what happened as it appeared I did receive my points & savings. And she showed little remorse for my having to eat my $14.99 Sushi platter with a bleach odor. Having had a week now to think about this, I think the "stealing" of customer Rewards Points is a common practice there. Essentially none of the customer card scanners work unreliably when you're paying in line. And it leaves customers in a vulnerable position, and checkers in an advantageous position, to use their own phantom card behind the check stand. You may get the shelf savings, but not the Rewards Points & purchase credits. And last Friday I realized just how sinister this practice. Customers are getting "hustled" for their Rewards Points. On top of that, I regularly see checkers using that "phantom card" on other customers. And I see them offer it on out of town customers who don't have a card. In these instances, Vons/Pavilions is losing money. And a lot of it when you count the number of tourists purchases who likely don't have these savings cards. As for local shoppers, to learn just how many Rewards Points you may have lost this way, you'll need to contact Vons rewards for a 4-6 month history of your purchase points, and then compare that against your store receipts for the same period. I haven't done this yet. But I spend probably $300-400 a month at this store. If I find there is a significance difference, Vons/Pavilions is going to get a Small Claims Court "demand letter" from me. No one likes to be hustled! Other than this, most of my other experiences at this Pavilions store have been positive. read more

I was here tonight, standing out front on bike duty while my friend ran in to grab water. An employee said hi when he walked out, then stopped to chat for a minute and told me to come by Wednesday for the Grand Remodel day. It was obviously the end of his shift (right about 10pm) so he didn't have a name tag on. Then another employee came out and also said Hi. We stood and chatted for a few minutes as well, then he talked with my friend once he came out too. It was seriously like he'd known us forever, but I'd never met him in my life. I did catch his name since he still had a name badge on, it was Evan. As someone who has worked in the customer service industry (f&b) in Vegas for almost 15 years, I have to say I was very impressed! One person being genuinely friendly... sure, that's nice. Two?! That's over the top. Idk how they are trained or how they are treated, but from a customer perspective, whatever you are doing, keep it up!
