Fresh fare - fruits, veggies, etc are the best in town. We used to love buying the house-made 7-layer Mexican dip, but it slowly became a 2 layer. Or should I say: 6.95 layers of beans, the last 0.05 layer is what passes as a combination of sour cream, guac, cheese, olives and tomatoes. Not really a layer at all. It's just a giant box of refried cold beans, which is a boring snack to eat, share, or present to guests. Go back to 1/2 beans and 1/2 everything else and it will be great again! I always peek hopefully in the cold case that maybe it has returned to its former glory... but instead it feels like a scene from the Stephen King novel. That top layer just keeps getting... We live walking distance from Pavilions. I wish it was still a Von's. In the beginning Pavilions offered more things in single purchase quantities. That made it nicer than Von's, maybe even rating their special name. We enjoyed buying enough hamburger from the case for 2 people. We also love the individual hamburger buns in the bakery department. We are 2 people who enjoy red meat once a week. Now there isn't loose burger in the case. Instead they offer too much dated burger on a prepackage blood sopper pad. It makes me want to puke! They are constantly out of single buns. Everything is in bulk. Isn't that what Von's and Costco are for? They were suppose to be more gourmet for people who still know how to cook. Instead everything is premade and measured. Not very much that is just basic quality food. Who knows what is in those premade pub hamburgers? Who knows what is in their meat marinades? I refuse to be forced to buy more than what I need just to have it go bad or suffer freezer burn. Pavilions is suppose to be a fresh food store. They are loosing our business bit by bit. Pretty soon there won't be anything we need to go there for. They are no better than 7/11. Thank God we live the same walking distance from Jimbo's. read more

This store is nice, and it is very convenient. However, it is extremely EXPENSIVE! I had no idea of the expense, until I was self checking out. One bag of potate crisps cost $5.99, and everything else was 2-3 times more expensive than Trader Joes and other shops. These prices are ridiculous. I spent $69 on nothing. Had I spent the same amount at Trader Joes down the road, I would have 5 bags to show for it. Why does VONS/PAVILIONS have to be so dishonest. Also, while you are shopping pharma propaganda is being pumped out the whole time, telling you to get a flu shot. Can we please be permitted to shop in peace, without being programed? I usually love shopping at Vons Pavillions in Carmel Valley, but last week I bought some chicken salad from the deli. They said it was fresh made that morning with the rotisserie chicken. I've had at least 5 bones and a HUGE chuck of gristle in one small container and I had to throw it away. It's a choking hazard. They really need to pay attention when making this! Gross! read more

This review is for Luis in the floral department. We trusted Luis to make our flower arrangements for our wedding because we heard how talented he was. He knocked it out of the park!!! The flowers were gorgeous and some of the prettiest I've ever seen. He did such a great job and helped to put a very special touch on our wedding day. 10/10 would recommend getting wedding florals here from Luis. Visited today. I had three items. Took more than 5 minutes waiting for a representative in the self checkout line because they didn't have an option for a dozen donuts. No one showed, went to the "concierge " no one there, at the floral counter there were two people and they said they couldn't help. I didn't even need the bananas. It they were not willing to help. Only two checkout lines open and two of the 4 self checkout lines were waiting for a representative for assistance. Sad. No one wants to help take your money...isn't that the most important part of running a store? Don't waste your time here. It is already over priced. And poor service makes it more hassle then the effort. read more

I've been coming to this location for some time . It was close to my doctors office . And I liked several other departments here . But the Pharmacy has gone downhill . Extremely . Staff isn't on par and their automated service to take prescription is outdated , often misleading, and wrong . We've been given wrong info by both human and automated at this pharmacy . Staff is limited even when they know there's probably going to be more of a crowd after they were closed Christmas Day (even though their automated said r/x would be ready that Christmas Day). I do like the bakery at this location. Kristen (?) is super friendly and offers samples of products you want to try out. There's also a WFB and Starbucks inside. Parking can be downright awful during peak hours at this strip mall. read more

What a disappointment when I walked into this Pavillion and saw that it is essentially the same tired old Vons. Yes, most of the perimeter departments have been remodeled -- the Meat Department and Butcher Case look great! The aisles are still narrow, and the area in front of the cashiers is also narrow with customers stretched down aisles to check out. The floors are in terrible shape. Why didn't Vons do what it's done in the past with Pavilion's conversions -- close the store and remodel top to bottom before re-opening. read more

Time was when a Pavilions was a high-end Vons, with a larger assortment of products in each category and plenty of specialty brands. Now, at least at this location, it's just a regular Vons crammed into half the store, with the other half dedicated to a ginormous wine section and an upper-mid-level cheese display. The grocery half of the store has nothing special compared to what's stocked at any other plain ol' Vons store in SoCal, including huge amounts of shelf space dedicated to their store-brand, Signature Select. Nothing against Signature Select, but if you're trying to upbrand Pavilions vs Vons, why not give over that shelf space to specialty products shoppers can't get somewhere else? The meat case looks fancier, but there is no actual butcher available to help you. If you want Deli meats, you still have to search high and low to find someone to do the slicing (when you do find one they will passive-aggressively tell you they have pre-sliced meats already that morning and try to point you to the pre-sliced deli meat case, which you have already searched, in vain, for what you wanted). And then, as at all grocery stores these days, you will wait in a long line at the only checkstand they are running, and when you finally get to the front of the line have to listen to the checker complain to their manager who is inexplicably hovering in the area (instead of manning another $^&**ing checkstand...) about how some other person got to take their break out of order, or their hours got messed up or some such. Kroger, if you are listening, after the Albertsons deal closes, please sell off the Pavilions brand to some other company that is actually serious about operating a high-end grocery store! read more

They never answer the phone in the pharmacy!!! It keeps going to voicemail and I've left messages and NEVER did anyone call me back! I even called back and spoke to store manager who apologized and took my number and promised someone will call me back. Nobody called me back. Very disappointing service. Uncaring people work there. No apologies when you bring it to the staff attention in the pharmacy as if they are doing us a favor being there. read more

The key thing is not to use the phone number that is on the sign for pick up because they will not answer. You need to call the store, and then just be patient. But today it only took 10 to 15 minutes to get my order rather than 40 like last time. I know it is not easy for them, but the system seems to be so much better today. read more

This store has to have the most negligent, most uncaring managers at this location my mom fell took a hour and 30 minutes for a manager to call another manager to call another manager to get the district manager to come down from the office to file a incident report, and still no one came out I literally had to call corporate and have corporate call someone to come out and write the incident report thank god the people at the deli were kind to run out and check out on my mom because the managers wouldn't have cared very upsetting how negligent some manager and district managers can be supper upsetting will not be coming back to this location ever again nor will any of my friends or family. read more

A great selection of groceries but what makes this place special is their outstanding wine cellar!! This is the place to go for wine in San Diego!!! Jeff, who manages the wine department, is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to selecting the perfect bottle based on your preferences. The selection of wine at this store is impressive and prices very reasonable, especially when they are running their discount promotions where you can save as much as 30% to 40% with the purchase of 6 bottles. The staff is generally nice. But the prices are simply outrageous. Everything cost more. I generally go to the Vons off Del Sur.

There's always only one, *sometimes* two lanes open during busy hours, 4 to 7 pm, and it's absurdly ridiculous. Pull some of your people from the back or other departments because the lane wraps around the entire store to the frozen aisle and it's a complete failure on management's part. From the parking lot to the horrible accordion player who always seems to be loitering outside (no one does anything about it) I cannot recommend this glorified Vons for the life of me. Other than the wine selection and tasting area (which personally doesn't interest me) I see no improvement over the average vons. At least there is self checkout unlike some vons. read more
