No complaints for my first visit. It's a small store but packed with great foods, treats, and supplies for my dog. The person ringing me up was informative about the deals they offer in the store, such as a stamp card for every $25 you spend in a single visit (12 stamps=$10 off) and for someone like me, who buys canned foods for my pup, you can buy 12 of the same brand and get 5% off. Buying the best food for you pet can really add up but I don't mind as long as he's happy and healthy. That said, any way to save money is super helpful. I used to live in the Bay Area where they have Pet Food Express stores that offered great food with good deals but I haven't really seen any in San Diego until I found Paw Country. My experience with this store is that they care about customer service. They close at 6 p.m. and I got there right at six. The clerk opened the door for me and let me purchase the food I needed for my dog. And prior to that visit, I was given several small trial bags before deciding which flavor my dog would like. The prices are competitive and the selections of quality dog food (I guess they have cat food too) was very impressive. I'd rather give my business to a store like this than to PetSmart, etc. read more

The owner (Shawn?) will tell you that whatever you are feeding your pet now is garbage and will make your pet sick. According to him, products not available at his store are all made in China and are inferior. He will then steer you to a much more expensive alternative. His idea of customer service is to belittle other pet stores products and only recommend what he carries at Paw Country. In addition, it was my experience to find him rude and argumentative. He clearly doesn't have any idea what good customer service means. Although he does carry some good albeit expensive natural products, the experience I had here was so negative that I couldn't possibly recommend this pet store. read more

My new favorite pet store! The Whole foods of pet stores, Paw Country caters to the health conscious pet owner: all natural foods, treats, toys, leashes and more. Primarily for Dog owners. Been here 2 times now, so this review encompasses both visits. I found them by accident, had dinner next store, was enticed and intrigued by their signage stating they're an all natural pet food store. I have two dogs, a husky/shepherd mix and a fawn pug. Both have skin issues, and food sensitivities. The employees are helpful and knowledgeable. Educated me about grain allergies and how sweet potato is a better choice as a filler in the food for my dogs. They're now on Zignature brand dog food and they're thriving, after only 2 weeks! Plan ahead though, they have boutique hours not chain store hours. Also, they gave free samples of all the different flavors to help me find the one they liked. Thank you Paw Country! My 17 year old cat has inflammatory bowel disease, and had been experiencing some difficulties that weren't being resolved. We work with a holistic vet, and he recommended a new supplement that Paw Country was happy to order for me. I've been in twice already and the staff was beyond helpful and just as excited about our dog as we are. Also, they offer the best food you can get for your dog or cat, mainly grain free american made food. We were making a switch to grain free food and weren't sure exactly what kind to get our dog. They gave us a sample of food for our pup to try! You'd never get that kind of service at Petsmart or any other chain. I highly recommend you stop in. read more

The shop keeper was very attentive and helped my husband and I find some treats to send to my aunts ill dog. He also gave us samples of some new foods to try out since we were thinking of switching our dogs food. We also picked up a couple of chew treats which our dogs devoured. read more

The owner and staff have helped me so many times...I've have two health challenged older dogs and food was a big issue for them both, for different reasons! One has horrible allergies, the other is immunocompromised. After trial and error (they were so kind to give samples to try) I finally found the right combination of soft and kibble food -- for the one that was refusing to eat, they suggested goat's milk to stimulate appetite. It worked great! They are very accommodating as a small business should be. More interested in your pet than just selling you "stuff". Gift certificates there are a very nice surprise! read more

LOVE this store and their selection is outstanding. But the only HUGE bummer is their hours. They close at 6 pm everyday! Makes it VERY hard for some folks to make it there in time from work on their way home. I really wish they'd have extended hours one or two nights a week! Maybe a Monday, Tuesday and/or Thursday they could stay open till 8 pm? I live in La Mesa but find I can't make it in time and end up having to go to Howlistic all the way in Mission Hills when I'm out of raw food on a weekday. Which is a bummer because they don't have the one I like that Paw Country carries. Please guys, if you read this, can't you give us even just one late open day a week? :) read more

Very knowledgeable staff. I went in to pick up a special order and I asked if they carried a type of chicken jerky-type treat for my dog. The salesperson told me the store did not carry the brand asked for, because the product was made in China. So I bought a similar type, made in the USA. I went home & checked the container of the remaining treats and sure enough, "Made in China." Glad there were only a handful left. Happy to report that the new treats, are better than the "Made in China" product. Easier to break into small pieces for training and my dog loves them and actually trains faster when I use these as treat rewards! Thanks Paw Country. read more

Lupine collar company has a guarantee that says, and i quote, "Bring the item back to the retailer you purchased from and receive your replacement! For convenience and to check availability, please call ahead." They also say, no receipt needed, even if the collar is chewed, etc. Before I continue, I specifically asked if this shop was an official distributor of Lupine products and she said yes, before I informed her of the needed replacement. I called the store and the female employee said, "sure ill replace it". I come in 30 minutes later, and after driving all the way out there she informs me that she wont exchange it due to the owners request. Informed the employee of what the website says, and that the Lupine guarantee overrules what the owner says. This shop claims they are an official distributor of Lupine products. The employee tells me if I don't leave she will call the cops. Should have let her call the cops, because that's thievery. read more

After reading all the reviews on Yelp I was excited to go and try this store out. I needed to get some food grade DE to help in my battle against the Super Fleas my cats seem to get. Foggers and even Advantage weren't getting rid of them completely so I wanted to try DE as I had heard some great things about it. I had read that this store was really friendly so I wanted to go in and ask them about it too. I called to check if they had it and the lady who answered the phone WAS very nice. However, when I got there, it was a different story altogether. There was a guy behind the counter who was finishing up a conversation with another customer (they seemed to know each other really well), who was walking out the door. I walked in and he just looked at me and started walking to the other end of the store. Not friendly at all. I asked him where the DE was and he pointed. I grabbed it, took it to the counter and tried to start a conversation about it. He looked totally disinterested, took my $20 and gave me my change, and started walking to the opposite end of the store again. I won't be going back if I can find food-grade DE somewhere else close by in East County...although for the $18 I paid could probably get it shipped to me from Amazon. The one good point? I found a really cool comic store in the same strip mall, where I found my niece's birthday gift. The guy in there was definitely customer-friendly and I WILL be going back there! read more
