I know it might seem a bit unusual to write a review on Thanksgiving morning, but I've been reflecting on my best friend, our beloved dog Henri, who passed away two weeks ago at our home. I wanted to take a moment to share how truly incredible the team at Paws into Grace was during such a difficult time for me and my family. We loved Henri so much. From the moment we arrived, the woman ( an angel really) who was there was so kind and gentle. The atmosphere there was soothing, peaceful, and quiet, a space filled with the most comforting and heavenly vibes. It was truly beautiful, and I felt like Henri was being treated with the utmost care and respect in his final moments on earth. Seeing Henri so peaceful there gave me a chance to say goodbye in a way that felt right. More recently, our friend used Paws into Grace for her dog. They opted to do communal burial, and opted not to get a paw print. I knew my friend would regret that decision. So, I called Paws into Grace, and they not only got it done, they let me pay for it and mailed it to me, so that I could give my friend some time to grieve before I gave her the paw print for Valentine's Day. What a wonderful service. To schedule an appointment the next day, make sure you call no later than 4pm. Unless you're scheduling for after hours which would be an additional fee. After 5 would be considered after hours. Same day service will depend on who's available in your zip code. If your pet happens to pass within the 2 hour time frame then the doctor will still come to collect your pet and you get charged the fee. If your pet pass more than 2 hours then call or leave a message to cancel your appointment. Leave your pet in a cool area and arrange for pick up or drop off. They are located in Escondido. I had no choice but to request after hours because I didn't want my dog to suffer any longer. They gave me a time which I thought was too soon and asked for an extension. I'm grateful to have my time pushed back to spend more time with my fur baby. The packages was discussed over the phone. You get charged for the in-house call fee, then choice of private or communal cremation, and $10 up charge for paying with credit card. The cremation fee included choice of one of the 4 urn boxes, clay paw print or ornament, and a fur clipping. Expect to pay at least $480 and up depending on what you selected. They also offer private view before the cremation for additional. Dr. Toni arrived on time. She was gentle, allowed us time to say farewell and walked us through the entire process. The whole process took an hour which included paper work. She had blankets to wrap him up and placed him in a doggy bed for transport. My dog passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the comfort of his own home. So grateful for this service. I just wished after hours wasn't after 5 because it was an addition $175. 7 to 7 would be nice and have doctors work three 12 hour shifts instead of five 8 hour shifts like in hospitals. This is so hard to write as tears keep pouring down my face even when I am writing this. Anyway, I cannot even begin to describe how amazing these guys are. I called on March 15th for a same day home euthanasia (and later cremation) for our sweet Zoey (in Orange County) and they accommodated it. Zoey passed 30 mins before the vet came but regardless, he stayed with us for a good hour. I wish I remembered his name as he was the most empathetic, caring, compassionate, and healing human being I've ever met. We couldn't have asked for better. He was so real, genuine, caring, and comforting as we talked, laugh, and cried, gathered around breathless Zoey on her bed, and we watched videos of Zoey, pictures, and reminisced about all the incredible moments Zoey gave us. We knew we wanted to have him home when it was done and from the initial call to Paws Into Grace, where they were patient and kind as I cried through it, to the actual procedure itself, they were supportive and did everything we needed to help us on this painful day. We requested Dr. Caroline Seitz as she worked at the veterinary hospital where we took Jake since he was a pup and she had cared him over the years. She arrived to find us giving Jake as many treats as his stomach could handle while crying through it all. She was so compassionate and understanding, patient as we showered him with hugs before the procedure and gentle as she explained exactly what would happen and how it would play out. Her calming demeanor and soft voice (to us and Jake) while it was happening did help us from completely falling apart in the moment. Once it was done, she stepped outside and gave us time to say our final goodbyes. When she returned, she introduced us to the tech that would carry our boy out to the van. This process too was very respectful to us and our boy in every way. About two weeks after it was done, we received a text letting us know that his remains were ready to come home. When we picked them up, the person that presented them to us was again kind and understanding in this emotional moment. The remains were in the lovely wooden urn we had chosen with his name and dates on the top of it. We also received a clay paw print and a tuft of hair in a small glass vial. I would hesitate to recommend this service for one reason that ruined our experience in saying goodbye to our beloved dog, Charlie. The doctor who arrived at our house was kind and understanding. What was an extremely difficult process was made tolerable by her kind manner. Unfortunately , as we were spending our last moments with our pet who had by now expired, the person who was supposed to assist in taking our boy to the car did not arrive. Finally, my husband went outside and asked the doctor what the delay was. She explained her assistant was delayed by traffic. She would take Charlie our baby in a "portable" stretcher. It took a bit for her to get his body into what looked like a cloth shopping bag. Our pet weighed 50 lbs and it looked like it would be an effort for her to take him away. Rather than watch her struggle, my husband assisted her in carrying our boy out to her van. I sat by crying as I watched this awful ending to our experience with "Paws into Grace". Our dog could barely walk and jumped up and howled in pain when the Vet injected the sedative Telazol. Vet said "This will sting but we don't have other drugs to use". Shameful. And my two Vets who treated my dog for years said they never use that drug. compound (including tiletamine (Telazol) for sedation). Then the Paws into Grace Vet could not get the IV started as the sedation was wearing off, so my dog felt that pain too. I first spoke with Erica, then called back and spoke with Melissa, both were incredibly kind and comforting as I realized Teddy needed to go sooner than I had hoped. Teddy and I had just returned home from visiting his favorite spots so he could take in the familiar smells one last time. Dr. Benson arrived right on time, gently pulled her car in behind mine, and gave me an oral medication to help Teddy feel calm. He lay peacefully and didn't even lift his head when Dr. Benson lovingly massaged his neck and quietly administered the sedative. He was actually snoring when it came time to shave his leg and administer the final medicine. I was able to tell Teddy what a good boy he was as he took his final breaths. After he passed, I let the tears flow, but the sadness was quickly softened by the comfort of knowing that, in return for all the love and joy he gave me, I was able to give Teddy the most peaceful and loving send-off possible!
