I cannot believe how rude I was treated tonight. I have never felt so uncomfortable at a restaurant. We came in at 9:30, and the restaurant closed at 10. As soon as we walked in all the workers watched us walk in while some laughed. We tried ordering as soon as we sat down and were told the kitchen was closed already. So we just ordered sushi since that was our only choice. When we did that the guy making the sushi got very pissed and was obviously angry. He did not handle himself professionally at all. He was aggressively and purposely putting things down hard on the table as he was making the sushi. I guess he was trying to prove a point to us. But seriously, if you don't want customers past 9:30 then please change your business hours to say you close at 9:30. That is not fair to anyone. Fantastic food, thoroughly enjoyed the time entrees, soup and the service. We ordered the chicken satay for kids, and coconut soup bowl, good size and even ordered it a second time to take it home. Placed an order for lunch today. Ordered the lunch special of pad Thai with half shrimp half chicken which the waitress kindly suggested me to get because I could not decide. The lunch special comes with a soup or salad and rice unless specified. Pad Thai was specified that it didn't come with rice which I was a little bummed about but realized it wasn't needed because of how much food it is. I also has a Yelp coupon of a free kitchen appetizer. It was a choice of spring rolls or krab ragoons. I got the krab ragoons which weren't like your average ragoons. They were so much better! Thanks Yelp for helping me find another hidden gem! I had wanted to try Payathai for a few months and when I saw a deal on Living Social I scoped it up. Payathai is located in a little hub of a pretty ancient strip mall. I would have never found it just driving around town. The decor in the restaurant is pretty ancient as well but every thing was extremely clean and that's more important to me. Dishes ordered: Curry Puffs..... They were very pretty but lacked curry flavor. Fried Thai Dumplings.... Those were really good and fried to an amaziling perfect crunch. Spicy Tuna and Avocado roll.... A-ok Rock and Roll..... Very good definitely my favorite item of the night. House Fried Rice.... Again just ok but way better then any kind of delivery I've ever had. For $18.00 I don't think we would order it again though. Our waitress was very nice but not so attentive. She was the only one serving the entire restaurant so it was had to get her attention. I think if they had another server working I would have given them another star. One thing they do well is the detail and presentation in the sushi rolls. The entire plate was very beautiful. This is the best Pad Thai we have ever had! Not that peanut-ey after taste. We order the level 3, and I don't like super spicy food, it's got a just the right amount of kick to it. Nondescript space in a tired strip mall. Small, spare space with maybe a dozen tables indoors and some limited outdoor seating. Not much to look at but the food will make your visit worthwhile. Extensive menu with Thai, Japanese and sushi options. Everything is rock solid, of excellent quality and served in ample portions. Hardworking staff hustles to keep up with well-deserved demand while the kitchen deals with a huge takeout business. What a find! I can't believe this is in my backyard. It is a gem. The presentation alone is worth the price of admission. We had the fantastic crab Rangoons. The sauce was excellent. The sauce for the shrimp dumpling was amazing. Hold on to that for later dipping. For dinner we shared the JB roll, crunchy roll, and Sex on the Moon. I'm a little disappointed with Payathai. Here's why -- ordered my food about 30 minutes in advance for pickup and still had to wait a bit when we got there. While I was waiting, I checked in on Yelp and unlocked a free appetizer, which I found out was a small order of spring rolls. YUM! I figured this was my consolation prize for waiting. The lady at the register told us it would be about 10 minutes to wait for the spring rolls, and I was totally fine with that. Then, a tiny little girl came from the back and said, "Sorry. If you want the spring rolls, I'll need 30 minutes." She clearly just didn't want to give them to us. Awful customer service for a piece of food that literally has a $0.25 cost to them, if that. Anyway, the food was fine. I thought the "fried rice" was super bland but I did really enjoy the flavor of my curry. I would totally come back here, but the little girl needs an attitude adjustment. Unpretentious with great authentic Thai food with the occasional Japanese influence from Jimmy the sushi guru. Not only can you select from drinks you might know, you can also choose from several types of saki. Recently expanded with a larger sushi bar and with new flooring it is really a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner. I think judging by the number of regulars and the take outs it has proved itself. Personally I believe the food coming out of the kitchen has really improved in the past year and is always prompt but still cooked to order. When we sat down we noticed that the narrow, small restaurant was almost packed. We were extremely excited as the Yelp reviews raved about the authentic Thai food. Authentic thai food is something we haven't been able to find since our Honeymoon last November in Thailand. Tip: Check in on Yelp for a free appetizer. Beware that your free appetizer will be limited between the veggie spring rolls and the crab rangoon. We selected the veggie spring rolls. The spring rolls were a bit bland and had a little too much glass noodles for my liking. Each dinner comes with a Miso Soup. The Miso Soup had a nice flavor and wasn't over-congested with seaweed. For dinner I was so excited about authentic curry that I couldn't help myself but order the panang. The curry was AMAZING! Honestly some of the best curry I have ever had outside of my own creation in Chaing Mai cooking school. My wife got the chicken fried rice which was also excellent. Overall, the table raved about their food. Plus the portions are HUGE and most of our party exited with leftovers. The service on this night left something to be desired. Although our server was very polite, the drinks were rarely refiled and the finished plates weren't cleared for almost 30 minutes after soups and apps were finished. We went to Payathai for our daughter's birthday dinner and could not have been more pleasantly surprised! When we walked in, it seemed very quiet (ruh roh) but immediately friendly. We were seated, given a moment to look at the menu and then approached for drink orders. The server asked what order we wanted our selections to arrive in, and was extremely accommodating. When the food arrived, it was not only gorgeous, but tasty. Our son doesn't eat much more than pizza, but the chicken katsu was a delicious alternative to chicken nuggets and the portion was HUGE. The sushi deluxe platter was stunning and we absolutely cleaned the plate. We also ordered the pad thai, but we had to bring most of it home because we were too full to finish. We had take-out there last night on a Friday night. The place was packed. I had to wait a 10 minutes for my order even though I arrive at the time I was told it will be ready. The hold up seemed to be the item from the sushi chefs. Not a big deal, but I thought I'd mention it. I watched the sushi chef making several order of the sex on the moon rolls and they looked to be quite the sushi roll. I will definitely try these next time. We had the spring rolls with chicken, the pork laab, the House Panang, Tom Kha soup with shrimp and the spicy tuna salad. We asked for everything seasoned to 3 1/2 stars out of 5. They were sufficiently spicy, but we like a fair amount of heat. All were good, but the stand outs were the Tom Kha and the spicy tuna salad. The Thom Ka I would give a 9 and the spicy tuna was a 10+. The tuna was very fresh, and the spicy tuna sauce was out of this world. We will be back for sure. I should also mention that we used a $40 LivingSocial coupon which they accepted very matter-of-factly. Some places have treated us like 2nd class citizens when we use groupons or livingsocials. I wanted to try Payathai mainly because I wanted to compare it to Rice, my favorite Thai place in Boynton Beach, and the reviews looked promising. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed. We took the one remaining free table next to the sushi bar. The place was bustling and the crowd was mostly older. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls, the green curry with shrimp and the sweet and sour chicken, Chinese style, both with brown rice (they offer it both Chinese or Thai style, breaded or sauteed). Our entrees came with soup or salad. My friend got the salad with ginger dressing and I got the miso soup. The waitress asked if I wanted my curry spicy and I said please no, no spice. The soup and salad were pretty standard. We had just begun to eat these items when our entrees arrived. And they totally forgot the spring rolls, which I reminded them of and which they brought out 15 minutes after our entrees were served. The sweet and sour chicken was a huge portion and pretty good. My green curry was tasty and the sauce was spot on but it was marred by too much spice. Which made it all the more unfortunate that my water glass was never refilled. And the vegetable spring rolls were hot and crispy but tasteless, filled with cabbage and not much else. I came home very thirsty and couldn't stop drinking water. Fabulous Thai restaurant tucked away in the shopping center. This is my second visit and I am in love with this place. The Panang Curry is to die for. It's chocked full of veggies and the chicken is pounded thin, not tough and is perfectly cooked. The curry itself is delicious and again properly spiced. The rice is fluffy and hot. The garden salad with peanut dressing, while applied a little too heavy, has a wonderful flavor. The staff is attentive but overly so. I like the thick noodles a lot better in this dish because of the texture and how they absorb flavored and get the smoky wok flavor. Their noodles were a bit bland and disappointing. The flavors in the sauce were good, but it lacked any spice! This is supposed to be a spicy dish, I had to add hot sauce! My bf, Brian, got the Spider roll and a spicy tuna hand roll. I have to say it wasn't bad. I was a little apprehensive, as the Thai sushi phenomena was something we encountered for the first time when we moved out to Florida. Sushi and Thai food have nothing to do with each other and several of the places we've been to so far didn't do a very good job at either. Stopped in on a Monday night for a quick bite. Very Friendly staff all greeted us as we went to sit down. I ordered the "drunken noodles" with fried Tofu...which we call Pad Kee Mao at my usual Thai place up north. My wife had the chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai. My dish was flavorful, but could have used a bit more heat. The Pad Thai was very flavorful and the chicken and shrimp were cooked just right. Payathai has lived up to the hype! I was encouraged to see that the place was pretty busy for a Sunday. I'm not sure if they take reservations. The seating area is a little cozy, so if it's busy, I'd prepare for a short wait. We ordered a large miso soup ($4) - delicious with extra scallion. The firecracker roll (tuna, tempura, asparagus, tobiko, $11) is one that I would definitely have again. Highly recommend it! Their drunken noodles ($12) were quite yummy as well - very stick to your bones kinda food. The fried tofu was a perfect addition.
