I love getting sushi at Sushi Simon! Great sushi, one of my Boynton favorites. I get sushi here regularly for the past 3 years now. The fish is fresh, sushi is tasty, quiet and calm atmosphere. The service is also very attentive, warm, and friendly. 5 stars all around! I also glanced at their drinks, looks like a good spot for an intimate conversation. They also have outside seating. Having heard good things about this place from coworkers, when we had an hour to kill before a show it seemed a decent option. Yeah, no... So when most of the menu items and rolls are built around fake crab and steamed shrimp, I should have known. Should have seen the signs warning me of a subpar evening ahead... When the entire specials menu says MP or "ask us" that should have been a sign that the restaurant is going to cost you as if they are really proud to overcharge... Imagine how you'd feel finding out that they offer the same quality of rolls you'd find at the Publix fish counter... But here I am... Sushi Simon has really cute decor and a wall of framed local magazine covers promoting themselves so I fell for the hype and decided to sit down and have a meal. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable but service here is decidedly not what anyone would call fast. It wasn't until AFTER we had ordered that the server told us they were only serving bluefin tuna tonight so anything with tuna in it would be $2 higher than listed, but it's just a couple bucks, let's do it. Unfortunately, the presentation far outweighed the execution. Rolls were tasteless, rice was gummy, and the "5 special sauces" just tasted like honey, ketchup, and mayo. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon, there was only one other patron dining so we had our pick of seats. The interior is dark wood with ample lighting and large floor to ceiling windows that let in more light. We recved the menus and were told they only had lunch specials during the week and that there was a $3 surcharge for any dish that contained bluefin tuna. The menu is not inexpensive but we decided to stay and try their fare. We each ordered a small plate of 6 pc sushi and shared a roll. Although the surcharge thing left me irritated, I will acknowledge that all of the sushi was exceptionally fresh and properly sized portions. In the end, it was an expensive but very tasty lunch. Will go back but likely during the week. Suggest incorporating surcharge into price. read more

There are many sushi places around town, but this one was unique and not because of the menu but because of a great team that takes care of you at this sushi restaurant. We joined our friends who are regulars, and we sat and were taken care of by Megan, who knew everything our friends would order, and she made some amazing suggestions of items. We went with all Megan suggested, including Thier special Miso soup with cut dumplings and tofu in it, side salads, and steamed gyoza and edamame. Each was a great start to our meal. Then, the staff stopped off and dropped off many of the rolls we ordered. We shared a No Name roll, Very Sexy Hamachi roll, and Ocean Ridge Roll. Unfortunately, being a vegetarian there weren't many options to choose from and with the items available, I was unable to get substitutions. The 4 stars here are for their food with a caveat -- it's quite expensive. It took some doing to find an open sushi restaurant for lunch that had inside dining. We tried 3 different places that I'd previously bookmarked first before getting to this one. They answered the phone. Yes, they were open for lunch. And yes, they had inside dining (it was about 90 degrees outside)... The ambiance was nice inside. Upscale. There's lots of free parking in the shopping center lot out front. The menu is fairly extensive. They also have a lot of daily specials and a list of fresh fish for the day. The problem with the daily listed ones is that they are just a name of an item -- with no descriptions. As there was only one waitress, it would have been crazy to make her stand there and describe each item. I did ask about one soup later... as we were paying our bill. The sad thing is that there might have been many creative chef specials we missed... As it was, my husband just ordered a California roll and a couple types of sushi (hamachi and Saba); he also had a hot sake to drink. I was looking for a cooked fish roll but not fried. She suggested the volcano roll. It was larger than their regular rolls with a mix of cooked salmon and white fish on top mixed together in a sauce served on top of a California roll. It was pretty good. So, you'll probably get a good meal here, but bring $$$ and ask questions. read more

There are TWO menus at Sushi Simon. The big stock one that has far far better variations on the same cream cheese crammed tired sushi slinging seen at susherias across Florida. Then there's the little black menu on the table: The Specials. If you eat meatloaf and your big sushi adventure is the fried JB roll, take the tourist menu. If you want to be amazed? Ask Lucy to explain what the specials are. Tell her what you like. They have fish and shellfish that you just don't see elsewhere in this volume. King Crab. Big eye tuna. Japanese scallops. They even make a little Wagyu beef sushi! Their soups are scratch-made. Rare these days. The Crazy Lucy soup, a riff on tired miso, is phenomenal, served piping hot. Their seared freshest fish, which I know as Okinawa style, but they call Morimoto, is so delicious that, thin and seared as it is, it wins over the raw fish phobics. We had wild salmon Tokio Style, another epic treat. The rolls on the specials menu also rock the house. Plating and design is off the hook good. Service is top top grade. Ask the servers not only for sushi recommendations Parking is the only Achilles heel of this place. It's a center with lots of popular places. It's packed. There are many sushi restaurants, but this place, although hidden in a small unfinished plaza, stands out in both quality and taste of the food! The prices can kinda blow your mind a little because they're higher than most sushi joints, but so will the service, overall atmosphere, and mainly the flavors and type of rolls that you'll find at this particular sushi joint. On that note.... I must say that the "Love you long time" roll although expensive, was the whole package! It's not common that I hesitate to eat anything no matter how pretty it looks, but this one was one of a kind! It's spicy, sweet, packed with quality fish, and oh-so-filling! The chef explained that the spicy white fish is a Japanese snapper.. it also had spicy seaweed, with a super creamy avocado, and the topper.... the best spicy tuna with PINE NUTS! Came for a quick dinner on a weekday night. When we walked in they were surprisingly packed - the waitress asked us if we had a reservation. For a local sushi spot in an unassuming Walgreens plaza... I was a bit surprised at the question. They asked us to wait by the back door out of the way of other patrons coming to pick up their to-go orders. This is the first sushi place I've ever been to that didn't have sushi bar seating. They have many tables crammed inside trying to take advantage of the space but not sure it works for them. The service was generic and fast but almost as if they were rushing us out of the place. The sushi rolls were pretty good for what they were. I did have to ask for my roll to be made with cucumber wrap as they didn't have any 'no rice' rolls on their menu. The sashimi was very fresh as well. Their menu was a little weird and very difficult to read. They'd definitely benefit from a reprint and an update. I think they used to be a top spot in Palm Beach (noting all their accolades on the walls) but may have fallen from grace in recent years. Overall, the ambiance of the place is really great and I'd definitely return to give them another chance. read more

I went with friends after hearing that the sushi here was good, however for us this was really below average and I doubt I would return as the fish we ordered was not good and much of what we tried did not seem fresh. We tried different items on the menu and nothing was even in the good category. Nothing and unfortunately we ordered a shrimp appetizer that was just a packaged pre-made product and perhaps we should have left after that but we were there and committed to stay. The Sushi (Nigiri) had the quality level of supermarket sushi but at least the rice was the proper consistency and temperature. Of the assortment we ordered we couldn't eat the Tuna as it was chewy and lacked the requisite tenderness associated with fresh quality tuna or even okay sushi. Eel was fine though and that was the best fish in the chosen selection. Service was good and we went with a nice Sake that we enjoyed. read more
