THIS COMPANY DOES NOT HONOR WARRANTIES. We had a new water heater installed two years ago after our old one rusted out. Last night I came home to a completely flooded garage. I made an appointment for a service call between 9am and 11am. The technician didn't make it to our house until 2:30pm. Bad enough already, but understandable, things happen, you were busy. After a quick glance at the heater, technician tells us we need a new unit. Again, it's only been two years. No worries though, we have a warranty, right? WRONG. Apparently labor isn't included. You installed a unit TWO YEARS ago and are going to just wipe your hands of us like that? Seems to me that you either installed a faulty unit (which is on you) or it wasn't installed correctly (which is also on you). How does it fall to me to cover the cost of fixing your mistakes? So I had Payless Water Heaters come out, $59 service charge just to come out and give me an estimate. Usually they're free? It was a Sunday so whatever. Apparently the repairman couldn't reignite the pilot light and said there was an issue that would set me back $599... wtf. USE ANOTHER COMPANY!!!!! Where to begin. Oh yes, two years ago, my wife and I had a new water heater installed and was told by the technician that there was a parts and labor warranty for 6 years on the water heater. We're happy and expect the water heater to last quite a while. Fast forward 2 years and my wife walks into our flooded garage because the water heater broke and began leaking. We have a 6 year warranty though so we're good. NOPE!! We were told a technician would arrive between 9 - 11 am to fix the water heater and didn't show up until 2:30 pm. We're ok with that because stuff happens. Technician arrives and tells us we'll need a new heater, but we're good because we have the warranty and were told everyone is covered. But then when the technician calls his boss who is the Manager and his name is JOSH, Josh told his technician to tell us parts and labor are not included and it was going to cost over $1,000 to install a new water heater. With the warranty, to install a new water heater, it almost cost as much to install as if we didn't have a warranty. This was unacceptable and we told Manager Josh we were told by his technician when installed that it was all covered. That wasn't good enough for Josh. Josh refused to honor what his employee had stated but then began throwing numbers at us as if he was giving us a discount to get a new water heater installed, which they either installed incorrectly, or installed a faulty heater. Either way, it was their mistake they needed to fix, but they refused to do so. So after numerous attempts to explain to Josh about how his company was not honoring what his employee told us, he said he'd call his boss, the owner to explain the situation, but Josh said his boss probably wouldn't honor any sort of discount, which wasn't comforting. Josh said the best price he could do was a little over $900 for the install of the water heater we had a warranty on. So, after Josh speaks to his boss, what do you know, the number comes down to $500, so the $900 was not the best he could do. They were just throwing numbers around and could have honored the warranty and what the employee told us, but to make a little bit of money, they didn't want to work with us. We were stuck in a corner and had to pay the $500. This company is sickening and disgusting and would never recommend anyone use this company as you will get screwed out of money and flat out lied to. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you go to ANOTHER COMPANY who is honest, professional and trustworthy because now we have another water heater installed by a company who doesn't honor what they tell their customers. Payless Water Heaters is and should be a no go for anyone looking to get one installed. On a positive note, Technician Josh, not to be mistaken with Manager Josh was amazing and very courteous and professional. He should work for a different company that appreciates people. So I put in an inquiry sometime in the middle of the night on a Friday night, Saturday morning. They claimed they didn't confirm my appointment until Saturday morning at 10 am. This appointment was for a service technician to come out to my home between 4-6 pm. To confirm and make sure nothing got misconstrued through text messages, I called and spoke to a live person and said closer to the 5-6 pm hour is better for me. She said fine, but somebody will still be calling before they come. Fast forward through a couple more phone calls, I finally get a message close to 5pm saying they can't show up at all. That's pretty bad, why not tell me this five hours ago, so maybe I could have found another company to help me. I understand that everyone is busy and it is a Saturday, but that was just a crappy thing to do to anybody. Even after extensive explanation, Paul the plumber continued to talk over me, was inflexible, and not understanding that the homeowner has severe Covid, and is in the ICU. Not only did you lose a paying customer today but I have another one that will also need to be replaced in the next year or two. As he put it he was afraid of getting sued, siting "CA law". I would highly recommend another company. If you're able to professionally and correctly replace the hot water heater, why would you get sued? Upon completion of the service, on of the bathrooms was not receiving hot water. When the tech left he did not mention anything at at to me, though he did say he would check every faucet and shower. I had to call them back to have them come out and check it. They mentioned that if it wasn't related to the tankless water heater I'd have to pay service fee for having them come out. After looking at the water heater the tech said it had nothing to do with the tankless not working more so that it was the wrong system for our house. Jose was out technician that came out and diagnosed the problem quickly with me explaining what has been happening with the water heater. He gave us options on what we can do to fix the issue and in no time of him explaining did I feel pressure to buy. He left it up to me. When dealing with home warranty companies it can sometimes get complicated and confusing. I called my company and they brought out Payless Water Heaters. They called me the same day, was able to look at my tankless water heater on the same day, and because they used 21st century technology were able to provide my home warranty company with the accurate information they needed to get my leaking water heater approved for coverage. Payless service improves from there... They provided a text message with a picture of the associate that would be working on my home. A dispatcher called me to say he was about 45 minutes away (in the beginning they do provide the typical "4 hour time frame window" ) however they kept me informed as to the whereabouts of the technician. The work was completed within the time frame they said it was going to be and Alex Garcia was very polite, clean and accommodating ( job #155969).
